Guest Reviews
- Alison (8/5): Really good choice for a short stay in Stirling. - The hotel was in a good location, our room was spacious and clean and the bathroom was clean and modern The breakfast wasn’t great although as it was cheap it was acceptable. Furniture and furnishings in the room were a bit dated.
- Robert (4/5): Over rated - It was comfortable and clean staff friendly apart from who I presume was the night porter when I said good morning my reply was a grunt. Paying a lot of money just for a bed 129.00 breakfast not included ..paying £10.00 for parking..if you wanted breakfast you pay extra..evening meal? Non existent you have to go into town.. I definitely will not be back.
- Wilhelm (8/5): - Gutes Frühstück mit gutem Preis-Leistungs- Verhältnis. Lage top, einige Restaurants fußläufig erreichbar. Zur Burg zu Fuß 15 Min. Teurer Hotel Parkplatz.
- Mikael (7/5): Bra, enligt förväntningarna men tveksam frukost - Bra och rent rum. Stor bar Typiskt engelsk frukost.

- James (6/5): This was a place that was trying to be grand but was rather paltry in experience delivered. - Nice building, good location, large room with comfortable bed and pillows, large bathroom with good shower. 1. Tiny impractical bath towels in the bathroom.
2. One of the friends I was travelling with ordered porridge for breakfast. He was told by the waiter that he could not have a small jug of cream with his porridge, the only option was a pot of honey. He asked for it without honey and also ordered two poached eggs. The eggs arrived before the porridge and when he later asked for the porridge, the waiter had forgotten it, despite the memorable exchange at the time of ordering.
3. had been sick during the afternoon following smoked salmon for breakfast at another hotel. I could not eat dinner but asked during the evening if I could have some toast and jam. It was made to sound like it would be a real hassle for them to do it for me. When they did do it, I was told I would have to collect it from reception as they couldn’t bring it to my room. When I went down to collect it, it had been left uncovered and unattended on a table in the lobby and with no napkins provided.

- Catherine (9/5): Great place to stay very near the castle - Central and good parking Nothing
- Ian (9/5): - Modern room, stylish hotel. Nothing.
- Dick (6/5): -
- RAchel (9/5): Great over night stay at Hotel Colessio on way to Cairngorms - Location in old town near to attractions and restaurants Parking fee
- Lynn (8/5): Nice hotel with pleasant staff. Great location for walking to castle although it is on a hill. Would recommend and use - Near the castle. Very clean. Big comfy bed. Staff were all very polite and friendly. Couldn’t check in till 4 pm. Had to
Pay for parking at £9 per night.
- Kavin (9/5): -
- Gallacher (10/5): Perfect Stay in Town Centre - Stayed here twice this year. Rooms spotless & bathrooms are huge.
Staff have always been very friendly & helpful..
- Lorine Hagen (9/5): Lovely Stirling Property Near Castle - Beautiful older property, characteristic and well-maintained. Huge bathroom and tub! What a treat! Perfect location to stroll up the road to Sterling Castle. Parking available. Fantastic Italian restaurant across the street! Mamma Mia's is recommended highly! Carpet was a bit worn - a few holes.
- rcooke22 (6/5): A Grand Exterior, A Slightly Underwhelming Stay (With Potential) - Set in an imposing and rather beautiful building in the heart of Stirling, the Collasio Hotel couldn’t be better placed. Surrounded by cobbled streets, period buildings, the dramatic presence of Stirling Castle and the nearby Old Town Jail, you genuinely feel like you’re about to step onto the set of a period drama, grand, atmospheric, and full of promise.
Inside, however, that sense of occasion fades rather quickly. The décor feels oddly generic and, at times, a little cheap, more “Dunelm clearance aisle” than historic Scottish landmark. There’s little to no sense of the building’s story or its surroundings, and the overall effect leans towards something slightly tacky rather than thoughtfully styled. Strip away the exterior and you could just as easily be in a budget chain hotel off a motorway.
This continues in the Bruce Suite. While the name gives a nod to Robert the Bruce, the design leans more towards crushed velvet, silver accents and modern abstract art. It’s not without effort, but the overall feel is less “curated design” and more “recently discovered a love of interiors and gone all in at once”plenty of enthusiasm, if not quite a clear point of view.
There are also a few small quirks that raise a smile. A decanter and glasses are thoughtfully placed in the room, though entirely empty, leaving you to decide whether to admire it or start your own minibar. In the otherwise impressive marble bathroom, there’s no shower gel in the shower itself, so you’re left doing a delicate balancing act with a bottle from the sink. And plastic tumblers in a £200 room feel… optimistic.
On the plus side, the hotel is spotlessly clean throughout, which definitely doesn’t go unnoticed and adds to the comfort of the stay.
Breakfast is a continental buffet with cooked options, perfectly adequate, but slightly underwhelming. A simple request for bacon and eggs resulted in two fried eggs and a single slice of bacon, which felt more “taster menu” than a hearty start to the day.
For context, we had stayed the previous night at the Glasgow Marriott Hotel for less, which did make some of these details stand out a little more.
That said, the staff were consistently friendly and welcoming throughout.
Overall, the Collasio Hotel has all the ingredients to be something genuinely special, a beautiful building, a fantastic location, and a sense of history waiting to be told. With a bit more attention to detail and a clearer sense of identity, it could really shine.
At the moment, it feels like a five-star building having a perfectly pleasant, but slightly confused, three-star moment.
- Kirsty (10/5): - Lovely big family room.Brilliant central location.Friendly attentive staff.Lovely clean room with lots of added extras with the coffee pod machine and bottles of water in the table top fridge.
Nice robes and slippers provided.
Delicious biscuits which give borders biscuits a run for their money. Room was fantastic.1 tiny thing needing replaced would be the carpet guard at the opening to the bathroom as currently taped down.Did it hinder or bother our stay absolutely not!would it stop us returning absolutely not!

- Escape20872943851 (10/5): Glasgow couple - Stayed on Saturday 2nd may had a lovely room and had great breakfast in the morning hotel was very clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful special mention to Kyle at reception and behind the bar what a lovely young man very well manared absolute gentleman what a credit to the colesso staff. Thankyou will be definitely be returning soon 👍
- Ron (10/5): -
- caitlinl578 (4/5): Avoid - The entrance looks grand and the lobby/ bar area looks nice, but I was shocked when I saw my awful room. I complained so the receptionist showed me another two rooms. I accepted the 3rd room as it was the best out of the three. I should have gone home but we were going to a party nearby.
The carpets were threadbare, the wardrobe couldnt open, due to its position behind the room door and the bathroon needed repairs. I found out later that the bed was very hard and uncomfortable.
I sent an email to complain, once we got home, and was told that my expectations were too high. Im sorry but when I book a hotel, I dont expect a shabby room.
The website describes the hotel as 'boutique home from home that offers elegance and comfort.' This is absolute nonsense.
In the hotels favour, the one and only visible staff member was nice, and the room was clean.
I certainly wont be back.
- Pierre (8/5): - Location, size of the room Room is needing a little refresh
- Angela (10/5): -
- Ann-Marie (7/5): Good location, spotless clean - The location is good and the property is clean Parking costs £10 per night. The breakfast thats included is very limited and so is the surcharge breakfast options. The breakfast was not of a good standard.
- David (7/5): Nice stay in a great place to visit. - Location was good near the Centre of Stirling. Parking was expensive. No Restaurant service during our stay, only Friday and Saturday night and Sunday lunch apparently.

- Nikonma (8/5): Pretty good - Very nice hotel, booked last minute
Great food and very very good service from a very young team…room was a tad dusty but hot water, comfy bed and overall very nice place to be
- 465feef (10/5): Last minute night away - Booked hotel last minute and managed to check in at 2pm rather than the check in time of 4pm. Booked king deluxe room number 133, was not disappointed. Fabulous views, immaculate bathroom with huge bath and gorgeous selection of toiletries that smelt amazing. Large comfy bed. Great selection of teas and coffees too.
Warm welcome from reception staff who were very knowledgeable and informed us of everything we needed to know about our stay.
Very friendly cleaners too.
- ella (3/5): Very disapointed - Staff were friendly and helpful booked a king Deluxe Guest Room the room we had was pretty standard only a shower in room no bath as advertised . fridge was advertised as small fridge it was a mini fridge that held 2 cans of juice . Sitting area was a couple of chairs under tv and a round table quite grubby and tired looking . Television a bit dodgy would switch it off when we went out and it would be on when we came back in found we had to switch it off at wall for it to stay switched off . Not sure where the deluxe part came from . They also have the cheek to charge us a further £18 for parking on top of charge for room

- Carol (10/5): -
- juliemP9650VT (10/5): HIGHLY recommend - I booked this hotel last-minute for a networking event, and I am so glad I did. It's a beautiful hotel, situated within easy walking distance to the train station, but it also has ample parking. The town centre is about 3 mins away, the castles may be about 10 (it's up hill......) I was greeted by a really friendly barman/receptionist when I arrived, my room was ready, but I decided to have a drink in the bar first. Its spacicious, comfortable and ( perfect for me ) great wifi. Being a people-watching expert, I saw that the barman/receptionist was knowledgeable about the local area, and patient with guests who arrived and whose English was not their first language. My room was lovely, beautifully decorated & (my fav) great quality toiletries and selection of teas/coffees. It was extremely clean and even being on the ground floor near the bar, very quiet. I didn't have time for breakfast, but I will be back and will defo stay here for a couple of days!
- Hannah (10/5): We would definitely stay here again and look forward to our next visit. - The breakfast was excellent! The room was spacious and clean. The staff were welcoming. Location is perfect for castle and town (and entrance to the highlands!). Selection at the bar is vast! Great shower. We didn't realise you had to pay another company separately for parking (£10 overnight). The view from our window was of the fire escape and the bins. Those are the only things.

- Heiner (10/5): Einen Besuch wert - Beste Lage und angenehmes Ambiente.

- amandabV6518XD (10/5): Excellent modern hotel with great breakfast - Stayed at Colessio with my sister and nephew for one night. Located in a lovely area close to the castle. Very friendly staff and our room was amazing, very clean and modern with everything you need and a huge bathroom. Our Itison deal included a bottle of prosecco and included breakfast. The cooked breakfast was excellent and also lots to choose from the continental breakfast. Parking is free on the street beside the hotel from 5.30pm to 8.45am. Would definitely stay there again 😊
- Stewart (8/5): - Great looking hotel, great location, nice room. The frosted glass in the bathroom, could see through it!
- Amanda (8/5): -
- Pax (1/5): -
- Jonathan (8/5): Enjoyable stay. - Good location, friendly staff, nice bar, lovely breakfast (not buffet). All good.
- Rebekah (10/5): Well happy with the hotel and the location, staff very pleasant. Paying for parking at the hotel was disappointing which - We had the suite, the room was very spacious, bathroom with a bath tub and a shower was great. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The small minors were, if we were to be picky the base of the bed could be replaced, there was paint on the carpet. Despite this we all loved the suite.
- Fiona (9/5): I have been coming here for some years and I will continue to come back. - Staff, very friendly and helpful, room lovely and clean and a hot fresh breakfast . Having to pay for parking
- P8050HKkimg (6/5): Not bad - Nice location for a 2 day mini getaway which I booked through Wowcher! Hotel was nice and clean, rooms were clean and spacious, bed was comfortable and had all the facilities we needed. Staff were lovely however didn’t seem to be many staff about. On the first day we were waiting at reception for 20 minutes for someone to serve us. We got a free glass of processco and Scottish breakfast included. In the Wowcher deal. Mini glass sizes would have been better as the one that was poured was flat. There was a good selection of fruits and cereals teas and coffee and toast for breakfast. The cooked breakfast was ok, scrambled eggs were watery and lots of oil on the plate. On the second morning I fancied cereal instead of cooked. Unfortunately the milk was off and sour which put me off. Overall it was good value for money for 1-2 nights. however probably wouldn’t stay again. Also had to pay £18 for parking at the property for 2 nights which is disappointing when paying to stay you also have to pay to park at the hotel.
- donnamS1612QH (2/5): Awful place has went to the dogs ! - How this hotel has won awards as it is now I will never know .. we had dirty sheets .. some sort of droppings in drawer... no telephone in rooms to complain so went to reception stood there for over 20 minutes then had to go back to room to use my personal mobile to try and get a hold of someone only to be told there was only 1 member of staff covering the hotel .. I have emailed the hotel 3 times now to put things right and no reply so its seems there is absolutely no customer service .. very dissapointed as have stayed here a few times when it 1st opened and regardless if they now advertise as budget this was disgraceful

- vivienne (10/5): -
- Sarah Louise (10/5): - From Emma at check in to Lynsey at check out, the hotel was outstanding. Very cosy and comfortable room with the added bonus of a small fridge with water and a proper coffee machine! Very comfortable bed, large bathroom with great facilities and spotless. We expected a continental breakfast but were also offered a full range of cooked breakfast by very competent and friendly dining room staff. There's a very well stocked bar in a friendly comfortable lounge which was perfect after a busy day out. We were warned that parking was limited but we had no trouble parking. All in all 5 stars! Nothing at all.
- Lorraine (10/5): Loved the stay at hotel would recommend - Good location. Room very comfortable bathroom was amazing. Didn’t have breakfast. Wetherspoons literally at bottom of road. Next to good pubs and restaurants Nothing comes to mind apart from parking right outside door is privately owned and had to pay £18 for 48 hours to private company
- Ian (9/5): -
- Norman (10/5): Short stay passing through - Staff great warm welcome. Room great bed was amazing great sleep. Nice welcome to breakfast plenty of choice.thanks agsin staff N/a
- Ritchie (3/5): Ideal location but pretty poor otherwise - 13/3/26 Don’t get me wrong the man on the reception was very helpful but we could not get our tv to turn off for hours gor told to hit the remote off the wall changed the batteries could not get it turned off till like 2 in the morning after turning the power supply off but then had no power in the morning so was not much fun.
- Anthony (10/5): - They gave us a free upgrade to the Bruce suite. Room was immaculate
- Henry (9/5): All well - Very central Every thing was fine apart for having to pay £10 per night for parking according to booking.com sight they said parking was FREE
- Cindy (6/5): Hotel was in a great location, had great staff, the room we stayed in had plenty of potential to be a great room if it w - The building is beautiful. Breakfast was great. There was duct tape connecting bedroom floor to bathroom floor. Old carpet with stains. Couch had some stains as well. There was black mildew in several areas of the shower. Not enough shelving in shower and in the bathroom. No outlets in the bathroom.
- chris (10/5): -
- Paul (8/5): Lovely hotel, close to all the amenities - The room as a bit small but we didn't need much more. The bar was excellent and a special mention to Kyle behind the bar. He was excellent and deserves a pay rise! The hotel was really close to the centre of Stirling and highly recommended. Only issue was that the room key didn't work after 24 hours and we had to get it re-activated each day during our stay. I have heard there have been issues with this in the past. However, it didn't spoil our stay.
- Marian (5/5): -
- David (7/5): Na - Nice beds Worn carpets
- Gary (6/5): -
- David (3/5): - Could not get contact with any staff..stood at bar for 15min then had to go back to room call reception from mobile to get a member off staff too serve at bar..
Bed sheets had not been changed as there were dirty marks all over them..tried 2 get hold off reception 2 change room but nobody available
Bedside drawers had nuts from previous residents stay 🥲🥲🥲

- Arlene (10/5): The perfect stay for my family and our beloved pet pooch - The hotel is wonderful and they were so welcoming to my kids, my dog and I. They couldn’t do enough. My dog was so happy and relaxed, a good sign for me. Perfect location close to the castle. This was the second time I’ve stayed there and I’ll be back soon Clean rooms, friendly staff, great breakfast and location
- hayley (8/5): -
- Rafaela (8/5): Good location - The bathroom was new , a little small the shower was.
The location was great ! The room was small , I couldn’t open my luggage and walk around.
- Claire CR Flood (10/5): - Beautiful hotel, lovely room, very comfortable bed and pillows, staff were very helpful, great location, just a minutes walk for sightseeing and 2 minutes to the town. Nothing
- Billy (10/5): -
- GaryMQ (8/5): On the up again! - In the foyer there's a 2026 ratings plaque (see pictures) which describes Colessio as being "Recommended / On The Up" and, having known the hotel for a long time, that's accurate.
I stayed this week, having had a lovely Sunday lunch - a new tradition they've started as the 1825 restaurant gradually moves from breakfast only to providing more dining options (check for latest on that before you book). Sunday lunch was great - the dining room is very comfortable, with elegant luxury touches, and we were even entertained with live music - soft jazz I think you'd call it. There was a welcome glass of bubbly, and a charming little leaving gift after. Staff were very smartly dressed and kind - really, a delightful Sunday lunch in a place with a deluxe feel.
The winelist deserves praise - the choice of whiskies and a whole range of drinks, including an unusually big variety of champagne / prosecco a surprise. I often don't drink so appreciated the clear choice of many non alcoholic options.
The hotel (they're gradually dropping the word hotel from the name) offers afternoon tea - check / book ahead - in the plush restaurant or wine / whisky bar.
Breakfast was also really good. By booking direct you get a few extras free, like zero alcohol prosecco and a few cooked items (though most are fully included). The menu is impressive - many local items. My eggs royale were a treat.
Rooms have been gradually upgraded and range from smaller (good value rates) but still smart, to some really lovely king and premium rooms. I had a look in a few rooms. Housekeeping excellent. Yes, a few tasks do remain in some rooms but it's getting there - new carpets are looking great in most.
Colessio, an historic building, opened as a hotel perhaps 15 years ago or so. It was a luxury styled boutique hotel. Unfortunately it fell on hard times and became a shadow of what the original intent had been. Now it's getting love and good management again, with supportive owners putting in money. It's great for Stirling to see it return to form. It's currently a very nice place to stay, and will this year offer more dining options although don't expect an evening restaurant every night. Hotels are changing and not all offer full dining facilities. Colessio is offering boutique rooms at a fair price, great breakfasts, now Sunday lunches and, I hear, new things on the special dining front coming soon. Definitely on the up!

Location Decor and old funiture
Expensive fo b and b
Extras expensive
- claire (5/5): Disappointing - The location The carpet in the room was thread bare
The bath wasn’t very clean
Room was a bit tired in all honesty
The hotel wasn’t busy so I feel a better room must of been available
There is a screen in reception telling you to book direct for better rates which I tried but was more expensive
Olso no mention that it is a bed and breakfast
- Marie (4/5): Wasn’t great hotel - Breakfast was a joke .. waited 15 mins for bread to make toast come out when it did come out it was frozen in the middle and warm at the ends ( frozen loaf defrosted in microwave) no orange juice a young boy had an attitude when I asked for the 3rd time about the bread !!! The service no one on reception
- Angela (8/5): Like the familiarity as been coming regularly to Colessio over six years and - Location, rooms (esp 122!) and staff Charging guests for parking rather than charging non-guests
dogs should be on leads
And lack of loyalty recognition
