Guest Reviews
- Russ (8/5): - Stairs are narrow
- Rafael (4/5): - moho , en la habitacion , cucarachaa el clima problema olia a humedad, muy mala esperencia
- Patricia (10/5): - Decorated cute, great location, front desk and staff very nice, had everything I needed. Cute clean, no bugs.
- Adrian (4/5): - There was cockroaches in my first room, so they moved me to a new room. The new room had black mold on the pillow covers which were replaced. I got sick after sleeping there one day had to move to a different hotel. I've stayed here in the past with no issue. This time was different.
- Karolina (8/5): - It was pleasant. We were able to check in early no problems, the rooms were ready and beds were comfortable. Downside was narrow hallways and staircases
- Kelly (6/5): Many steep steps, small, clean & close to ferry - A lot of steps and overall a small area. Clean hotel. Centrally located. Budget friendly
- Milton (10/5): - The people are very nice
- Milton (10/5): - Peaceful
- Maria (8/5): - Thus place walking distance to beach, shopping and restaurants. Walking distance to the ferry.
- Howard (8/5): - This is not a beach front property. It's very nice place to stay in El Centro, with a short walk to the beach. You don't need a golf cart , you can walk everywhere you need to go.
- Christine (8/5): - Great location and helpful managers.
- Allison (10/5): - Loved the roof top patio. Very colorful decor. Great location.
- Teresa (8/5): - The property had a lot of stairs. Not a good choice is you can’t handle the climb. There was a rooftop sitting area which offered wonderful views of the sea and Cancun. It was very quiet for being less than a block off the Main Street in Isla
- celine (6/5): - Place was in very good location. Close to ferry , beaches and all. The room was a bit dark and bathroom smelly. As soon as you get close to the hotel you can smell it from outside to the second floor. If you can pass the smell it’s an ok place to stay for the price
- Chris (8/5): - We enjoyed a simple room which suited our needs. Spent more time away from room exploring, so fancy did not matter. Great location close to beach
- Justin (8/5): - Great location. Perfect for our boys fishing trip. Walking distance to everything.
- David (10/5): - Basic rooms with everything you need including a mini kitchen, pretty big fridge, plates, one pot one pan! Even a blender!!!! Was nice to not have to eat out all the time! The upstairs deck is amazing!!!!! 360o view!! It was pretty quiet considering the location close to everything.. super nice folks running it and decent price! Totally recommend!
- Robbie (8/5): - Very Spanish style property great upper deck when not windy outdoor cooking area needs some maintenance but over all good price and will return next year
- Melissa (10/5): - So close to everything, you can walk everywhere. The roof top is amazing
- Gary (10/5): - All I needed in an Excellent location. The staff cares!
- Karen (8/5): Excellent value for money - Very good budget hotel with comfortable rooms. Excellent central location in Playa Norte. Room had everything we needed: good bed, fridge, dishes, cutlery, air conditioning, ceiling fan, hot water, chairs on balcony, view to the water across the street. Rooftop terrace was a nice extra for reading in the shade or tanning. Very happy with this hotel!
- Roxana (6/5): - The property was nice. The room was ok just to stay for a night but we stayed in the lower floor and it was the last room where the was place to wash or do some cleaning and smelled bad. It smell like sewage.
- Paul (8/5): - Loved the upper deck. Nice, basic kitchenette. Great location.
Occasional sewer smell from across the street was the only downside
- Cristian (10/5): - Everything’s close
- Howard (10/5): - Always a great time in Isla Mujeres. Perfect central spot to stay in El Centro. Thanks
- Curtis (8/5): - For the money was an excellent choice, close to everything
- Aviad (8/5): - Great location!
Half a block from the center and the beach.
Staff is extremely nice and accomodating.
A little outdated but clean and has an amazing view from the rooftop.
Great value for the price.
- juan (2/5): - The tenants had a party on the property which was next to our room. Loud music until 3am, talking loud, and hanging around the 1st floor hallway making it dangerous because they were not part of the hotel guests. The owner/manager did not answer his phone and the office was closed.
- Adrian (8/5): - Have stayed here a few times, many things are broken and not working in room, no hot water, seems they never have the room I booked, also find it weird how they wanted to keep my passport, I don't think I will be back, them holding my passport was weird, as others mentioned it's next to a sewage plant. Other than that the staff is always friendly and it's close to everything. If you are on a budget and just need somewhere to crash this is a safe spot that is central.
- Chad (8/5): - This is a decent place to stay. Very close to the ferry. Short walk to restaurants and beaches.
- Luis (10/5): - Everything is close to this property.
- Tavia (10/5): - Loved the hotel, really enjoyed the rooftop area to hang out! Would definitely go back again.
- Heidi (8/5): Isla Mujeres one night stay - The place was perfect for the ease of getting off the ferry & walking with a large suitcase. Perfect walking distance to shopping & restaurants. Friendly front desk staff. Economical. Sweet little spot.
- Howard (10/5): - We have stayed here before, so we are familiar with hotel and area. The only reason that we give a 4 star rating on area around the property is that the hotel is sandwiched between buildings.
The hotel is walking distance from the Altramar ferry and is easily accessed from the beach and el centro.
If Sol Caribe has availability we will book again!
- Milton (10/5): - Was a good place we will be back
- DJ (8/5): - The property was dated but very clean and comfortable. We were put into a room w/a double bed but had reserved a King in the Honeymoon Suite. Fortunetly, the room next to us became avail after the first night and we were able to move. There are a LOT of stairs to deal with but the location is super close to beach, shopping and nightlife. The view from the rooftop patio was spectacular and comfortable. The owners speak min English but were very accomodating to our requests. We enjoyed our stay.
- Kurt (6/5): Great view from deck but units not well maintained - The first room we were assigned the refrigerator did not work and the kitchen and living area were very small. The hotel knew about the problem with the refrigerator so they agreed to put us in another room for the next 2 nights. The second room had a larger bed and a better kitchen layout but the kitchen sink leaked. The drain hose underneath was broken. It appeared the pipe had been fixed prior and it broke again. We informed the manager of the problem on Sunday afternoon and he told us someone would look at it manana. We asked for a bucket so the sink would not flood underneath. The sink was unusable as a result of the problem. No one came to fix it the next day. So we never had a working sink. The view from the top deck was the selling point for this place but repairs are not kept up on. For the price we paid I would expect things to work properly.
- DJ (8/5): - This property is very old but well kept...a lot of character for sure but lots of stairs...super clean...beautiful view from lovely terrace on top that you can relax on...BBQ on....very comfortable beds....great location!!! Would def stay again....Mike & Marguerite are sweet hosts but very little English....they tried hard to please us 😀 Only 3 min walk to ferry!
- Karen (8/5): - Pro : nice and friendly staff, well aerated room. Central beach is very close by and very nice.
Con : room was very small, only one outlet for all the kitchen appliances. There is only room to sit 3 people for eating but there is space for 5 to sleep. It was hard to get warm water, which is fine for adults but complicated when trying to clean kids.
Too expensive for what you get and the area is simply too touristy.
- Sherrie (8/5): Nice quaint Mexican hotel - We enjoyed our stay. The rooms are nice and clean Small, but the bed is great and there is a full size fridge. The roof top patio is lovely. The stair cases are very narrow so be aware
- Linda (10/5): Awesome Location! - This is a clean & comfortable very modest hotel. The location is perfect only a few minutes from the beach, shopping, Hildago restaurants, the Malecon & city bus. The front desk reception & housekeeping are super friendly. They do not speak much English and we don’t speak Spanish so the Translator app was helpful. There is not an elevator so you must be able to climb stairs. We would stay here again! The budget price & modest room we’re worth the convenient location.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice but only for a short stay - Nice, family run, place. Good location. Not for a longer stay. Comfortable up to 3 nights.
- Leland (6/5): - It was ok. We stayed because the house we rented was for only a week and we needed 2 more nights.
- lourdes (6/5): - Close to beach and dinning. Top roof ocean views to feel the breeze. Had all needed. Refrigerator, and small kitchenette. Cold ac. Water pressure was low. Staff were nice. No word of english though.
- A (10/5): - Quaint decor!
Great shower and good AC, a clean little kitchen.
Clean and quiet for how close it is to a lovely beach.
The language is Spanish and the stairs are steep but the view was worth it!
I love the privacy film on the bright windows and the available beach towel, just go sit under a palm tree and skip the pricey beach umbrellas.
- Evan (10/5): - Staff here is above & beyond excellent, just keep in mind they are Spanish speaking only. The entire hotel is scrubbed from top to bottom every day and is spotlessly clean. Location is great, but the stars of the show are the two rooftop decks -- great breeze and nice views. Full-sized fridge kept our beers ice-cold, aircon worked very well, and for the price point this place is very hard to beat.
- Miguel (10/5): - Location perfect, close to everything, everything in the room was comfortable and practical
- Eric (10/5): - Stayed here with my wife & kids. I read a bunch of good reviews and a few bad ones. I rate it at awesome. I loved the narrow hallways and stairs up to the room, Miguel is a cool dude and his wife Margaret, they are a classic couple.
The rooms are all you need. When your on this island you don’t need a fancy room! Get out and soak up the beauty of what’s around. I’ll stay here again in the future.
- Paula (10/5): - Simple but clean and in good location. I would stay there again!
- Roy (10/5): - Clean rooms, comfortable beds, and the best rooftop terrace in town. The staff is welcoming and friendly, but their English is limited. The translator on your phone is a good idea. Best deal in town.
- Carolyn (6/5): - Good location. Air conditioner did not work for 5 days. (Was given a $25 discount for this) Reserved a family room and was given a very small room that an extra bed was added, 6 days later was offered a family room but didn’t need it by then, tried to tell them but they didn’t speak English. Just not a great experience.
- Mitchell (4/5): - Charged 60$ more then quoted Expedia price.
- JOHN (8/5): Awesome location - Hotel was close to beach and restaurants.
Would stay there again
- Paul (10/5): - Well run and well appointed. Room was spacious with a comfortable bed, nice sized fridge and functional kitchenette. The common deck on top is outstanding!
- john (10/5): - this is a great little spot to be close to downtown and a stones throw from the beach. They are essentially like little mini apartments. Owners are very friendly staff is very nice and they keep it clean. Its not a high end resort but if your looking for someting that is right there in downtown isla and a street over from the beach you cant beat the price or location.
- JOSEPH (8/5): - Great location. Bed was reallt nice and AC was great. Rooftop views are insane. Very very poor water flow. Barely a trickle. Stairs up to hotel and unit are very very dangerous so be aware if you are limited in mobility. Most rooms look at a building that is being built but my unit number 11 had crazy ocean view right from the bed. Unit is small but doable. Cooking is out of the question. Price was goos
- Laura (6/5): - When Checking in the attendant tried to stick us in a smaller room claiming there were no large rooms which was what we had paid for. When I checked on line and saw that their web page stated they had 3 left he then agreed to give us a big room. Also be aware that you will have to pay in cash. The room itself was ok for the price but would not recommend for a stay longer than a day or two.
- Raushana (10/5): - The property management was the best they recommended we we can eat the room was cleaned an we got fresh towels daily I would definitely recommend people staying here we will be back !
- FERNANDO (10/5): Buena estancia y ubicación - Muy buenos departamentos. Muy cerca de playa norte y cerca de restaurantes y de supermercados que hacen práctica la estancia.
- Maria (4/5): Don’t stay here - The room had ants in the kitchen, the shower wasn’t clean, the little stove wasn’t working right, the stairs were very steep and dangerous . There was an awful smell at the entrance, like human waste
- Jason (8/5): - Simple place to stay close to all the restaurants and beaches.
- Dermot (10/5): - The rooms were very clean and the lady cleaner was very efficient in her job . The kitchenette is due an upgrade but still sufficient for two people. Sheets changed almost every day.
- Darliss (10/5): - We loved the vibrant colors in the a/c small-but-comfortable room. The view from the rooftop terrace and its location in the heart of downtown made me choose this hotel. The bed was comfy and the room was clean. The small terrace outside our room had a partial view of the ocean.
- Gerald (8/5): - Will stay again when we comeback , some stuff needs repair , , needs new shower head and better water pressure but did not complain because it is enough to shower, the view was “WOW” location is great.
- Janet (8/5): - Our room was always spotless! We even got fancy towel sculptures! The rooftop palapa was a super place to hang out and watch the Isla world go by. It is close to everything on the north end. Only downside… next to a water treatment plant and if the wind was in the wrong direction there was a sewage smell. Plus some noisy rooftop dogs. We’d go back though. We stayed for 16 days.
- Clare (10/5): Great comfort, great price with personality plus. - What an extremely comfortable place, and it has some great, unique personality in some of it's fixtures, sinks, we had two rooms on our stay, although only one night we will be back. Great location also.
- Sean (10/5): - Nice location. Walkable to anywhere on the north end. Good food and beaches within 2-5 minutes walk.
- Yesenia (10/5): - Honestly, it felt like we were visiting family when we arrived and throughout our stay. It wasn’t anything grand but it was perfect for us. The kitchen was well equipped with appliances that were clean and well maintained. The cleaning staff always checked up on us during the week and were very sweet and all smiles. The check in staff was so welcoming and friendly that I just wanted to stay longer. The ac unit was excellent!! The hotel itself was in a great location and had an amazing 360 rooftop view with lounge chairs and great hangout and cooking space. We will definitely be back here and recommend to all our friends and family who go to isla mujeres. One of the nicest staff we’ve experienced In our travels. Oh and they had hot water which was very nice.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Kind staff; great location - All of the staff are very kind; the rooms are basic but have what you need and having the kitchenette is helpful. The air conditioning works well and there is an overhead fan as well. The wifi didn’t work at all in our room; I had work online and meetings to attend and that part was difficult. It’s supposed to work on the rooftop terrace, but wasn’t working for me up there either. They did let me borrow a room for the online meetings I had, which was very kind of them. If you don’t have work to get done while you’re there, probably wouldn’t be an issue. There is no elevator, so be advised if you’re traveling with someone who has more difficulty with stairs. The location is excellent; very close to the beach, restaurants, and the ferry, but we didn’t have any noise from the streets in the room. They came and cleaned the room every single day, and provided fresh towels daily, along with beach towels for us to use.
- Susan (8/5): - A real bohemian groove here. This property is in an excellent location. Right near beach and close to all norte beach action but very quiet at night. . The hotel has an amazing roof top that is likely the best in isla. Sunsets to die for. The hotel has multiple very steep stairs, it's very unique in its build with rooms tucked here and there. We had the room with king size bed, and 2 dbl beds. They were very comfortable. And pillows were great. Bedding clean and cotton not that micro fiber crap many places use. The room however was coated on walls and ceiling with popcorn plaster, which made it feel cave like. No black out curtains, and rooms really humid and damp despite great air conditioning. Bathroom micro tiny. Thr big downfall of the property is that workable wifi can only be accessed from the halls out side the rooms. This allows you to meet your neighbors so that is cool. I don't think this property is worth 1300pesos maybe 800ps . The place is right next to sewer processing plant so first floor and second floors a little smelly if wind blows toward Cancun. Check in a bit challenging as the family doesn't speak english but they are wonderful. Also it's a late check out time. Truly one of the last mom and pop run places in isla. Id support these guys again. .
- Jerry (10/5): - The view was great on roof.
Room was perfectly clean and airconditioner worked great.some might fine the narrow steps a challenge. We did ok with it because we didn't have anything but small backpacks
- Gina (10/5): Little gem close to the beach - Really cute property, family run and a stone throw away from the beach. The roof top terrace is amazing and gives your views over the beach and much of the island.
Just be aware that there are narrow and many stairs to reach the reception as well as the rooms, but a normal able bodied person should not have any issues at all. We had a fantastic stay!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was very central and the reception was super friendly and accommodating !
- Gwen (10/5): Island Stay - This hotel has great staff and a great price. The roof deck is wonderful and the location is very convenient for getting around town. It is clean and cozy.
- Dara (10/5): Isla Mujeres - It was quite a dark room with 3 beds and we were only 2 people. Photos make it look a bit nicer. central location and very close to beach and lots of restaurants.
- Linda (10/5): - Everything was excellent. Will stay again. ❤️
- Jessica (10/5): Great affordable hotel - Great location and very clean. The view of the ocean from the rooftop terrace is great!
- Frederik(Frits) (8/5): - My wife and I stayed for one month just before we booked with Expedia.
We had booked with Hotels.com and the owner would not accept its
quote. He said "Hotels.com no good." We had to pay substantially more
even though they knew us because we had stayed there three times
before, each time for 6 weeks.
- IA (10/5): - Fast check in and check out. Close to the beach...
- Verified traveler (4/5): Maybe not next time - Sadly the place was not what we expected, we had a lot of cockroaches and as a solution I was handed a Raid spray, the people working there is very nice but I think as a product of all the construction around the they en up getting a lot of bugs, etc
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Quaint comfortable room. The air conditioning worked great! Great location, close to everything. Excellent views of both sunrise and sunsets. The only negative I have is that there was too much furniture for the size of the room. We were a family of 5 and were expecting 3 beds, a single with two queens. Our room had two queens and a king, the room was not large enough to accommodate these beds making the rest of the furniture really unusable. I will likely stay here again next time. As long as you’re not expecting a 5 star hotel this is clean, convenient and comfortable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Closeness to North Beach and the staff was very helpful.
- Liana (8/5): Quirky but perfectly situated - We stayed in studio 12, with king bed, full apartment sz. fridge, double hotplate, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker, sink and counter area. It was a tight fit with luggage sitting on top of chairs. This unit was around a corner at the very end of the outdoor corridor so very private with no one walking past. The roofop patio with loungers and chairs under shaded pergolas was awesome especially at night. Great views. Onsite family owned and friendly with a bit of English but be prepared to practice your Spanish. There isn't someone stationed at the desk constantly, so just ring the bell and someone will pop out to help quickly. Exactly as shown in the pictures - not suitable if you have disabilities or have trouble toting your bags up A LOT of stairs. Easy walking to everything including ferry terminal, taxi dispatch stand, Playa Norte, main shopping and restaurant streets. Quirky sort of place showing a bit of wear from the tropical environment, but a perfect base if you aren't looking for The Ritz (or even The Best Western). The cleaning lady works hard and does a very good job too. WiFi can be a bit spotty. TV is totally in Spanish - just FYI
- Hannah (8/5): - Great location, friendly staff, comfortable room, cool rooftop area to relax. Good little kitchen to make some meals if you want to. We didn’t always have super hot water but the weather is warm and it’s island life so it didn’t really bother us.
- Linda (8/5): - This property would not be for anyone who has a problem with steep stairs, and in some locations no handrails. The staff is pleasant and the rooms are clean. It is a no frills room, but the location is in the middle of downtown.
- CarminaJimenez (10/5): - Perfect location!! Close to everything. Only bad thing is there was no parking. Staff was excellent and the rooms were immaculate
- Christina (8/5): A lovely find - We're a family of 5 - Mom, Dad, 3 teenage daughters. We found the Sol Caribe charming and full of personality. The beds were comfortable, the staff made every effort to make sure we were happy, and the location was perfect. We recognize, however, that it might not be everyone's cup of tea. It all depends on what you're looking for. For us, it was a lovely find.
- Kestina (10/5): - Just across from the ferry, close to Norte beach and lovely restaurants. Comfy beds, very clean. Not new, but very charming. GREAT VIEW from the rooftop. Very good accommodation for the money!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Good location, poor customer service - Hotel is in a good location walking distance to just about everything, however the service is lacking. There is hardly ever anyone at the front desk you have to always ring the bell to get anyone to come out. If you aren't in great shape and can't climb tons of stairs in the hot sun or if you have heavy luggage, then this hotel is not for you. On a positive note, the hotel has pretty good wifi, tv, a/c and hot water, comfortable bed, but again the service really needs improvement. They charge 50 pesos to let you borrow a beach towel. This is not a deposit, but an actual charge. They have no clue what services are advertised online about their hotel. I booked this hotel specifically because online it said I could arrange a late checkout for 200 pesos more. The guy had no clue about this and refused to honor it. Also this hotel does not like to accept credit cards, as they have no credit card machine and it is a big, big hassle. If you want a basic hotel, are going to pay in cash only, don't mind paying to borrow beach towels and don't mind climbing tons of stairs then you will like this hotel. For me, the location is great, but that is about it. I don't plan on returning. Also, they are doing some kind of construction right next door, demolishing a building or something so it is extremely noisy starting at about 7 a.m. you can forget about sleeping.
- Karen (8/5): very nice, great location. Good for a weekend :) - they were very helpful when I arrived super late!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Broken lamp, sewer smell, three beds in one room, no pool, excellent view from roof
- Verified traveler (4/5): Departamentos Sol Caribe - The owners do not speak English. The beds and pillows were comfortable. If you have any disabilities the stairs are hard to manage. The owner over charged me for the room. It was not the price I agreed to on Travelocity. I had to get a person who spoke Spanish to get a refund. The cleaning ladies were not properly trained in cleaning. The shower had used Q-tips. I left then just to see how long it would take the cleaning ladies to remove them. They were still there 10 days later. When we arrived, Food was on the dishes and cups, we had to wash them before we used them. We had hot water 2 days out of ten.
- Marie (8/5): Convenient location in central town - We enjoyed our 5 day stay here. we were on the 4th floor so had lots of steps to walk. the room was a good size and the bed comfortable. Good location in town, close to stores, restaurants and Playa Norte.
- Susie (2/5): I would never stay here again - There was a terrible sewer smell to the Hotel. Our room had cockroaches and was very musty and damp. It was also very dark and dingy. We left after one day due to this. I would not go back and do not recommend anyone stay there.
- Dennis (10/5): Everything you need from a room, and more. - The room was very clean and exactly what is advertised. If you're looking for a 5 star resort, you are in the wrong place. However, if you're looking for a room with beds, a bathroom w/shower, a kitchenette, and a rooftop oasis, centrally located downtown, all far a reasonable price, this one is great! The staff doesn't speak much English, but are very friendly and helpful. Google translator was a must have for us since we don't speak much Spanish either. We rented a golf cart for the day one day to explore the island, took a cab another day to go to the Dolphins and Garrafon, then just walked everywhere downtown the rest of the time. Just a short walk to the beach on either side of the island and Playa Norte.
We met a couple of the residents that live here half on the year too. They are really neat people and very helpful and nice!
We loved the whole experience and will definitely be back. Sol Caribe Departmentos and Suites is where we will stay again.
- Spanish villa (8/5): Island Living - Hotel was was authentic Spanish style.
- 4 Guys in Mex (8/5): Great for the price. Perfect location! - We love Isla Mujeres. This hotel is in the center of it all. I wish we had more days to spend there. Would definitely stay here again.
- Emma (10/5): Nice suite w/kitchenette close to the beach - Loved my stay at Sol Caribe. Nice clean room with comfortable bed, kitchenette, sitting area and the roof top lounge was great for reading, relaxing and watching the sunset. Would definitely stay here again!
