- Margaryta (10/5): - The place is truly magical.
The hosts are very welcoming and lovely. The room has everyting you might need and even more. The sitting area is very cozy with a real fireplace to sit by on a stormy autumn evening.
- David A (9/5): What an experience far from the norm - Really quirky great opportunity to experience living in a castle Spiral staircase
- Neil (10/5): Unique!! - As many reviewers mentioned, truly unique. For us up with a longhouse in Sarawak and timber cabin in Alaska. Host were excellent, brief introductory tour and then on our own. Wife found stone circular stairs a challenge but our hosts had provided a plentiful selection of food. Covered both evening meal and breakfast. Nothing.

- Darryl (10/5): - A Magical Stay Fit for Royalty!
We had the absolute pleasure of staying at this stunning castle, and it truly exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, we were swept away by the charm, elegance, and attention to detail in every corner of the property. It felt like a step back in time- with all the modern comforts perfectly blended in.
The breakfast was nothing short of extraordinary with local treats like cheeses and meat, butteries and fresh yogurt. Every morning felt special and bellies were more than full! The owners went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, and you could tell that every detail of your experience is carefully thought out.
Staying here felt like living in a fairy tale. If you're looking for a one-of-a-kind getaway that combines luxury, history, and impeccable service, this castle is it! We're already dreaming about our next visit!
- Markus (10/5): Exceptional - Thanks Sue and Ian for the lovely stay
- Dave (9/5): AMAZING 700 YEAR OLD CASTLE WITH UNRIVALLED VIEWS - CHARACTER BUILDING WITH WONDERFUL VIEWS.
LOVELY BREAKFAST OPTIONS
HELPFUL AND CARING HOSTS
GREAT LOCATION NOTHING MUCH MAYBE A BAR AREA TO ENJOY A EVENING BEVVIE.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Experience of a lifetime - Everything was phenomenal, including the room, location, views, comfort, space, cleanliness, and hosts.
Staying here has been one of my favorite travel accommodations and experiences.
- Jenny (4/5): No not for us- depressing poorpers castle - heated towel rail ( even though we had to put it on but thank goodness it was there) and towels that were newish. Everything else. We wanted to run after seeing inside but it was a lot of money paid up front. I wanted to cry. How cld it b called Luxury Accomodation !!! This was a poorpers castle and there was nothing to make us feel like a good experience. Everything was cheep old and dingy and dark- not classy. Not good old world. Even the bed was well worn, the covers were ultra heavy, very old sheets. Very little light in the area of kitchen/bathroom/bedroom which is up another approx 20 stairs from a lounge area which we never used as up and down very tight stairs required. The bathroom was old timber floors with a bath. No shower just a hand held piece over the bath. The breakfast in the room was mainly long life packaged food. The place was so damp so the dehumidifier was on all the time and we emptied .
The owners we only met a few times. Nice people.
We have felt quite depressed after being there but luckily after the 2 nights we came across a lovely old manor beautifully presented and funny enough far cheaper.
- Parks (10/5): Great place to stay! - We loved our stay. Our hosts were very welcoming! They provided such yummy food. We had a great time. We had a few bugs in the area. Only negative!
- Alden (10/5): Staying in a castle put the icing on the cake for our trip! - Loved the property and the book they put together!
- Yuliana (10/5): very much local experience - quiet, private, friendly host
- David (10/5): Excellent stay, highly recommended ! -
- Cody (10/5): Most excellent adventurous experience! - The castle was an amazing experience! The great room was full of culture and history. The bedroom was gorgeous! The bed was huge and even had heated blankets on both sides that could be turned on separately. The roof top views were even better than on top of Arthur’s seat in Edinburgh! The only thing we wish was that we spent more time there to explore the grounds out in the beautiful countryside
- Sandrine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Todd (10/5): Exceptional -
- Abhishek (10/5): Excellent. Would love to stay again! - We throughly enjoyed our stay at the Fa’side castle. It is definitely a unique experience to stay in a building with so much history. The location is excellent as well. It is a quick 20 min drive to the city of Edinburgh. I really enjoyed the hospitality offered by Sue and Ian. The breakfast spread in the room allowed us to start our day exploring the Scottish highlands and Edinburgh on the right note.
- Ian (1/5): Well we didn’t— we departed after an hour trying to get the fire and heaters to improve the experie - Location great, and the place very impressive. But not at all hospitable or cosy. The place was amazing— but cold damp and unaired. And the bathroom facilities were rather basic for the price.
- Ita (9/5): Superb -
- Ewan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): Dude we stayed in a Castle - Spectacular place, honestly it was way nicer then I thought it was going to be. The owner was super friendly and knowledgeable about the property. A little out of town but easy to reach with a train and a little taxi ride but so calm and peaceful after the chaos that is Edinburgh.
- Ricky (10/5): Exceptional - Staying in an actual castle is a really amazing experience, we had use of the Great hall, upstairs bedroom and rooftop. The medieval tower has so much character, loved the spiral stairs. Owners are lovely and we really couldn't have asked for more Absolutely nothing
- Matthew (10/5): Living history with a touch of comfort. - You are staying in a castle that is older than your home country. While that might seem enough the warm hospitality, the hearty fire and the cozy bed made this a night one does not soon forget. Due to our job we booked kind of late and as a result only got one night due to other reservations but would have liked to stay more.
- Ania (10/5): Incredible beauty and atmosphere <3 - Beautiful castle and wonderful hosts!
- Dagmar (10/5): I loved the stay at Faside Estate. Everything perfect. - Lovely estate in a great setting close to Edinburgh. Original castle feeling.
- John (10/5): Exceptional - The castle experience was something different the room was huge the bed was so comfortable 😌 Nothing it was a castle experience
- Margaret (10/5): I wish we could have stayed longer at this fantastic castle!! - Fantastic Scottish Castle with the perfect atmosphere and modern facilities. The owner was great! And the food we had for breakfast and snacks was wonderful!!! I can't think of anything we didn't love.
- Susan (10/5): A unique historical experience. - Faside Castle is a wonderful historic place to stay in a unique setting with the wow factor. We were located in a tower for our sole use. Excellent breakfast provided. Easy parking. Stunning views from the roof. Very hospitable hosts. Cannot recommend this property highly enough. There is nothing not to like!
- Nathaniel (10/5): Amazing stay - We had an amazing stay from start to finish. Ian gave us a tour if the castle along with a history. The rooms were cozy, the bed was very comfortable. The owners even gave us a ride to the tram when we were unable to find a taxi. Sue and Ian are a friendly helpful couple.
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Josef (10/5): Exceptional -
- Penny (10/5): A memorable experience. - Staying in the tower as sole occupants is a memorable experience.
- Barry (8/5): An unforgettable experience. - Provisions for breakfast were superb and varied.
Having our own lounge with an immense history was immeasurable.
Hosts were excellent. Not keen on stone spiral staircase, but if taken slowly were manageable for two fit people.
These had to be negotiated to access Lounge, Bedroom and Roof area from which there were magnificent views all around.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a fantastic stay in the Tower at Faside Castle. This is an incredibly interesting property with both a fascinating old and very recent history. The space for guests is huge. We saw a very large sitting room on the website and guessed this was general room for all guests, but it is actual a private room for the exclusive us of the Tower guests only (plus a very large ensuite bedroom, and very large double bed). We loved the access to the roof with panoramic views of the coast and Edinburgh and beyond and the continental breakfast in the room was great (plus usual tea and coffee making facilities, microwave etc). The owners Ian and Sue provided an very warm welcome and we had a fantastic chat about the history of the property, local places to visit etc, but are very careful to give the guests privacy. We only stayed one night, but I wish it had been longer!
- Lyle (8/5): Amazing castle and couple that runs it - Rooftop.
Bedroom.
Great Room.
All yours. Castle history told to you from the owner herself. The biggest and best breakfast setup in your room. A roof top with a spectacular view. A great room right out of a movie set.
One important note: the bedroom was a bit musty and bothered us when we slept. Leave the window open and the bathroom fan on and you will not notice it.
- Jackie (10/5): - Truly lovely place with warm and friendly hosts in a beautiful castle with incredible views. Every comfort seem to. Will definitely be back again.
- H&H (8/5): - A unique and charming Place with Great hospitality
- Dawn (10/5): - Absolutely awesome best Birthday ever lovely friendly staff can't wait to go again. From seeing the castle when it was a ruin to staying in it was more than what I expected it to be!
- Amanda (10/5): Beautiful view and experience - We loved our stay at Faside Castle. Sue and Ian are very welcoming and we felt very well taken care of. We really enjoyed the fire in the sitting room, learning all the history, and the fantastic view. It was a great experience we will always remember.
- Ian (10/5): - Great stay and very private. Good for couples
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay! - Absolutely wonderful bed! Hosts are super helpful and while it is not a full Irish breakfast there was yogurt, fruit, cereals, pasties, ham, cheese, toast, coffee, tea, cocoa etc. no need to go hungry!
- Ceri (10/5): Princesses and Jesters - Fantastic stay - gorgeous views alll around! Family loved coming to visit us...
- Dawn (10/5): terrific - It was fabulous staying in the castle-there is a family connection to it way back. The owners were great-letting me look through the history, which Ive written down & will check out. The atmosphere was great. Fabulous views from the rooftop.
