Guest Reviews
- ssuberade (10/5): Amazing Authentic Egyptian Style Hotel - Pros: Lovely Egyptian Decor Hotel.
Beautiful Egyptian wall murals and paintings throughout the common areas of the hotel. Several comfortable relaxing area to enjoy with little to no distractions.
Location is with a small local community with 5 min. walking to markets, shops, and local restaurants, 10 min. Walk to Nile River and can stroll along the riverfront walkway- corniche, though several locals will try to entice you for taxi, felucca sailing and motor boat rides, just remember to bargain bargain and bargain 1/3 to 1/2 of the prices. Public’s ferry available to go to Eastbank side for 25 EGP o/w.
Hotel management and all staff helpful and friendly.
Daily Breakfast was a nice variety of foods, with daily changes.
There’s a nice indoor and outdoor restaurant serving food & drinks all day.
Ask manager for electric kettle, cup for your room if you want to have late tea/coffee
Best to get Egyptian Sim for mobile phone. Hotel WiFi rarely works, or not at all.
Nice swimming pool area.
Clean public toilets around hotel.
Cons: You have to buy your own bottled water, best to buy at nearby market for 10 EGP liter sz., Hotel sells it 40 EGP.
You have to ask for room cleaning, not automatically done.
Hotel WiFi Doesn’t Work 99.9% of the time. There’s a Vodafone mobile shop only 5 mins. walk from the hotel
Many areas are quite dusty and strong fumes, a Facial mask maybe needed to wear.
Overall best part of the stay is the convenience to walk around and take public ferry 25 Egyptian pounds one/way to go across Nile to East Bank side, but West Bank side has everything, ancient historical sites, and peacefuln
- evalR5545GR (2/5): Nice stay but beware of the dishonest manager - The hotel was nice and the staff friendly, but when booking our taxi with the manager to leave, he claimed it was 2000 Egyptian pounds ($40). This seemed steep, but with no time to explore other options, we took the taxi to the airport. After only a 25 minute drive, and suspicious of the price, I asked the taxi driver what he had been paid. The hotel had paid him 500 pounds only, charging me four times the actual price!
The money loss doesn’t even bother me - it’s being lied to and scammed by the management. Truly too bad because otherwise this was a good value at a budget hotel. I’m sure the other good reviews here are accurate, but were fortunate not to have been lied to by the scammy manager.
- leic268 (2/5): Worst food in Luxor - Nice courtyard but bad food. Beef burger was a fake patty and a slice of tomato in a bread pocket. Set menu doesn’t include soup at lunch but server didn’t say so. Eggplant drowned in oil. Curry chicken was like oil chicken. Mixed grill had rock tough meat. I ordered too much and server never reminded me. Strawberry juice was pink water. Worst experience in Egypt. Would rather eat street food.
- Roam202144 (10/5): Super friendly and quiet place - What a friendly place. Very quiet, superfriendly staff, Nice swimming pool. Good price quality ratio.
We Will be back!
- 830kristenv (8/5): Good - The Hotel is really beautiful, it just too bad that the bedrooms are too small and there is a lot of flies…
The breakfast is correct and good !
And they have a pool ! So nice !
- Jo (10/5): - Amazing place tucked away with local community- beautiful building and stunning architecture- comfortable clean bedrooms (bed very comfy) - staff were amazing- so polite/ friendly/ welcoming- really lovely guys. Had a take away breakfast beautifully packed for us as had an early morning trip booked.
- Leah (10/5): - Loved the hotel, the staff were so helpful and friendly
- Birgit (10/5): - Sehr nettes Personal :) authentische Umgebung :) reichliches ägyptisches Frühstück :)
- Birgit (10/5): - Freundlichkeit des Personals
- shirleyaM9574FW (10/5): Great Hotel, definitely recommend - Majestic hotel, very picturesque, location is great for peace and quiet. Beautiful pool setting. Rooms a bit on the small size, staff friendly and helpful
- Ramon (6/5): Great staff, poor wifi, average stay. - Beautiful location and very nice staff members. The manager, Baha, was very kind and accommodating, especially when we accidentally got the hotel location wrong for our late night check in.
The garden was beautiful but the Wi-Fi was very poor in the room. We also were scratching ourselves in the night because, we think, it may have been a cleaning product used in the bed? The breakfast wasn't anything special.
- Virgilio (10/5): - The staff is very nice and helpful
- Christopher (10/5): - Great little hotel on the West Bank. Clean, safe, comfortable. Nice pool. Easy walk to the riverfront, near good local restaurants. Owners helped arrange tours, and laundry. Very nice.
- Kaytlin (2/5): - The staff were deceitful and creepy. My group was 3 women and they followed us. The hotel concept is beautiful, but the rooms are not clean and there are bugs everywhere. My friend was bit 11 times on her back and 3 on her ankle withing 6 minutes of sitting at the outdoor eating area. The food was not fresh and likely made a few days prior. We were there for only an hour and re-booked a new hotel immediately. I requested a refund and they refused expedia any compensation.
- Agnieszka (10/5): We would go back again! - We truly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is a little oasis on the west side. Close to all the sights on that side of the river but also close to the boats that can take you to the east side with all the other temples. The hotel was in good condition, we really enjoyed the courtyard! The food was good, breakfast was a buffet. The pool was great too, even if a little too chilly for me (we went in early March). The staff asking for tips was not necessary, but everything else was great. Our room (family of 5) was spacious and everything was clean. The mattress could have been a little softer ;) but we all survived ;)
- Lulu (6/5): - I booked the wrong days, I called to explain this to the front desk and I received no help. Instead the person at the front desk try to charged me double for one extra night telling me in a rude way pay or go. You will be pressed for tips even if they do nothing for you. The only polite and nice people were the kitchen staff. Be aware you get what you paid for! Our room was dirty and there was no mattress covers, just a sheet between you and a very old and dirty mattress. I had to go and get extra bedsheets to cover the mattresses. The bathroom was dirty and the fridge inside the room was not working and it smelled bad.
- Thomas (8/5): Quiet and relaxing - The property is alot larger than the description so there is alot of quiet areas to lounge and relax. The staff were all attentive and pleasant but also respected our privacy without too buch bother.
The included breakfast was the best we had in all of Africa and did not get bored of it in our week stay.
The only complaint was the WIFI and television. There was no wifi in the rooms and though you could connect in the common areas the data rate was so slow many webpages would not even load.
- John (10/5): - The property was wonderful although a shame that their internet was not working and we had to go the the nearby Thebes restaurant or the El Gezira Hotel for this. I do not know if this was only temporary or always the case.
- varunmusc (2/5): Beware of this place ! - This is hardly a hotel. It is inaccessible and in a junk. The rooms are shabby in the name of a budget hotel with hopeless bathrooms with leaky taps and dirty towels. They shamelessly accept that they are a budget hotel but it is in fact a place of scamsters. They overcharge the credit card and charge the transaction fee they are charged with and then scream that we are not a bank. The dining room is a smelly musky foul smelling place with servers serving while smoking endlessly.
Beware that such a place is a blotch on the otherwise beautiful friendly wonderful Egypt.
- Anupama (8/5): - Nice property, with beautiful garden
- VARUN (2/5): Stay Away ! Warning ! - It is not a hotel or a lodge or anything but just a old dilapidated place with rude manager with no professionalism or courtesy.
I warn bot to stay at this dingy place tucked inside a dirty road with leaky bathrooms, no room facility or service, no charging points and hardly any lights and a hugely damp smelly funny dining room and food
- hichem (2/5): attention arnaque - Bonjour,
A éviter absolument.
Je ne ferais plus confiance aux notes, je dois croiser avec d'autres sites.
- david (8/5): Great value for money. - Lovely one night stay...all the staff were very kind and helpfull. If you want an amazing value stay away from the trappings of the main town..this may be the destination for you..set in amongst local village life its away from the big corporate hotels..nice and peaceful.
- Khalil-ur (10/5): - It was situated in a quite area along with the locals and other hotels near by.
The entrance to the hotel is deceptive as inside it is very big and has a large swimming pool.
The team looking after the guests were absolutely friendly and helpful.
The hotel food is cheap and delicious with a good selection.
I would recommend this hotel for any family stay.
- Freedom11689559310 (10/5): Quiet, relaxing, like being home! - My daughter (10) and I stayed here for 5 nights. Poolside was a perfect escape from the heat after a morning of sightseeing. The staff are unbelievably attentive and kind, helping us with anything we needed. Food was delicious and well priced. The free breakfast in the garden, served by the happy and kind Sayed, was a peaceful way to start each morning. We also used the laundry service and clothes came back looking like new!
Location is great, on a side street, so quiet and shops/restaurants nearby have everything you might need and don't bump up prices. 100% recommend.
- Jenni (10/5): - This hotel is tucked away but when you enter it has lovely gardens, courtyard and the pool is great. The staff are very friendly and looked after us well. A small housekeeping tip gets you some very interesting towel creatures/flowers in your room!
We enjoyed the food from the restaurant, which was very reasonably priced. The breakfast was good too. The room itself (we stayed quadruple) was as per the photo and very clean. Beds were comfortable and A/C was good.
The location is great. It's less than 5 minutes walk to the ferry to get over to the East bank (10EGP). From there you can either walk or easily catch a Caleche or taxi to Luxor or Karnak temple.
Being on the West bank it also means you're closer to the West bank sights. The hotel staff can help organise guides and transport should you want it. Also, we 'only' had to get up to be picked up at 4:30am for our balloon flight, when people on the same flight staying East bank got picked up at 2:30am!)
There's a small shop next to the hotel which sold cheap water and snacks. There's also an ATM and pharmacy within a few minutes walk. We didn't try any nearby restaurants as after sightseeing all day it was just too tempting to relax by the pool and order food from the hotel!
Only downside is that they only accept cash payments - so I recommend the 'pay now' option when booking.
Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel, especially at the price it is
- Trek00707804118 (10/5): Excellent Customer Service - Very helpful Hotel! The staff was able to assist with all my concerns. They go above and beyond. The hotel will treat you like a family member and not just a normal customer. They have an excellent driver that is able to assist you as well with all your traveling needs
- arielv565 (10/5): Very calm and nice to stay - The Hotel is located on the West Bank, you can visit The Valley of the Queens / Kings but also take the local Ferry to Cross the Nile and visit the City on the East Bank. The Staff is great and very friendly. You can also enjoy your time at by the pool and Garden 🪴 . Would love to come back some time! ❤️✨
- 799hanifaha (6/5): Nice Hotel but need improvement - Room very small for 2 ppl. No space to move around. No kettle provided. we ordered lunch in the restaurant, pizza etc, but I think the hotel ordered it from outside and serve to us
Nice astethic hotel but a bit rundown. Probably need a bit of facelift
- Kyle (6/5): - Average
- Chouaib (10/5): - Our stay was perfect. The hotel is very close to the ferry 10 egp and you're in the other side. Room was confortable and clean. The service was good thanks to Rafa abd his team hassan and mohamed.
- Nail (10/5): - It was a nice booking experience. Hotel was clean and have very good location
- COLE (10/5): - First off staying on the West Bank is the way to go. East bank is crowded, loud, and full of tourists. If you want a bit quieter more local option the West Bank is great. That being said Hotel Sheherazade is a gem! Safe location tucked away off the Main Street. The property is large and has everything you need. Clean pool, large courtyard, great restaurant area, and the staff and owner are so so nice and helpful. We booked one night but ended up staying three! It’s a 3 minute walk to the dock to catch a boat to east bank, and 15 minute taxi to see valley of kings, temple of Hatshepsut, etc. believe the hype, this little hotel is a great deal, and you will feel like a local and treated as part other family. 10/10 would stay a million times more.
- Quest39491833336 (10/5): Nice stay. - We spent 4 days at this hotel on the west site of the Nile (well placed for visits to the various valleys - King, Queen etc...), a friendly family- establishment with swimming-pools. Thank you for your help and for your recommendations for trips. See you again 😉.
- julie (10/5): - The personnal is very friendly and helpful. Nice hotel located in the west bank, with a swimming pool. The garden is nice too. You can take the boat to cross the nil for going in Louxor. Good food for lunch or diner
- Marcin (10/5): - Great hotel, big family room, very nice owner, very good included breakfast, very good swimming pool. We really enjoyed our stay!
- J1492PCpeterm (2/5): Tied and old nothing like described no pictures or information - It says free car parking. But could not get anywhere near hotel and was advised not to leave car in street.
We looked at the very poor state nothing like pictures very run down, looking very poor conditions and not that clean we all decided that we would not stay here even after a 9 hr drive from Cairo and found lovely hotel just up the road Dreams Island
- D4522PKjustinm (10/5): Definitely recommend this relaxing spot! - This was a great home base for exploring the Luxor region! Staff was attentive and friendly, rooms were clean and homey, the pool was a great place to relax, and dinner was amazing! We had breakfast here every morning and it always hit the spot & we also availed ourselves of the massage service which really recharged us for the rest of the vacation.
- Manbirt (2/5): Only review you can trust here unfortunately - You can’t trust the positive reviews.
No WiFi. Manager said ‘we’re a budget hotel’ - I was constantly picking up signal from 2 neighbour budget hotels! Very poor rooms - I have a list including blood on a shower curtain. Manager hassles you for tours and will hussle you even after you return tired after a long day - shady as they come. Breakfast was skipped save instant coffee. Do not book.
- Mr M S (2/5): - This property looks rural and rustic which it is but basic amenities are lacking, we couldn’t wait to move onto the next destination
- Daniel P (10/5): Great stay - The staff was great. They made it feel more like a family visit than a hotel. They helped arrange tour of a bunch of West Bank sites, and generally went out of way to be helpful throughout stay. I preferred staying on West Bank, though more hotels are on east side. Property included a good restaurant and a pool.
- Mathieu (10/5): Luxor j’adore, great hotel - Excellent stay in Sheherazade, Mohammed and his team are all really very sympathic and makes you feel home. They helped to book tours, transfers or anything you need with great quality guides.
Great location 5min from the nil, the pool is a great area and refreshment after visiting Valley of the kings.
Very good food for lunch too
I highly recommend Sheherazade hoping to come back again.
- Michele (10/5): Wonderful owner and staff 🌻 - The hotel is wonderful with nice gardens, pool most of all the staff were outstanding. Super friendly and welcoming I shall miss them all.
Kindly,
Michele 🌻
- Raghunandhan (8/5): The best hotel on West Banks - This is a nice, quiet place to stay. The staff is super helpful. The person in charge of breakfast would wake up early for me and have it ready. The owner worked with.my wife and arranged tour guides and private taxis to East bank and airport. I highly recommend this place.
Thanks all for making our stay pleasant and memorable.
inshallah, we will be back again!
- Megan (10/5): - Amazing food and atmosphere; enjoyed the area very much. Everyone made us feel so welcomed. The service was outstanding. Wish we could have stayed longer.
- Andrea (6/5): - Das Hotel liegt ruhig in der West Bank von Luxor. Es ist recht sauber. Allerdings verkangt das Personal ständig Geld für nicht bestellte Leistungen
- Ricardo (10/5): - Staff was friendly, courteous, accommodating, and helpful almost to a fault. Room for the price was excellent, food was delicious, beverages were refreshing. Did I mention the pool? My family and I loved the pool. The valley of the Kings is only minutes away. Hot air balloon rides even closer. I will definitely stay here again.
- John (10/5): - I think this property is great and I would highly recommend it. It is easy to find but it is also in an authentic residential area which I enjoyed as it gave me a flavour of the 'real' Egypt. Mohamed, the owner was very helpful and friendly, as were all the staff. I also liked that it was very near to fields and a banana plantation where I could enjoy watching birds. I hope to return again in future.
- Erika (8/5): - Firstly, the location of the hotel is really good if you are staying at the West Bank of Luxor. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the ferry to the west bank. There are some small shops around it so it’s convenient. The area of the hotel itself is not the greatest, very small dirt road to get to it.
Upon checking in they said we are getting a twin room rather than a double as they ran out of doubles but we just moved them together ourselves and that worked alright so it wasnt the end of the world.
The room itself is okay, the bathroom can use a bit of updating but it wasnt too bad.
- Nicolas (8/5): 1001 nights - Good experience, good hospitality staff very friendly and helpful
- Michael (8/5): Great stay on the West Bank - Fantastic deal in Luxor on the West Bank. Wi-Fi wasn’t working at the time but this is towards the end of the major Covid pandemic. The pool was great, the bar and restaurant where too
- Alicia (8/5): Country cozy - The staff here are very friendly. We arrived very late in the night. We were supposed to have 1 room for 4 people but they gave us 2 rooms for the same price which worked out better. We were only there to sleep one night and we had to leave early morning. Its not the ritz but its simple and they have a nice country style. We had a nice breakfast the next day. You do wake up to the sound of rooster which was kind of cute.
- Younes (6/5): - A short stay in Luxor to discover the monuments, the staff was very kind, the hotel needs a revamping
- David (2/5): - no wifi, no access to nearby businesses in a filthy part of town faulty ac no TV or refrigerator
- Verified traveler (6/5): - chouette petit hôtel , malheureusement désert,j'attend toujours le remboursement des nuits non utilisées à cause d'annulation suite à un problème médical chez mon épouse
- ST (8/5): - Hotel Sheherazade is a great value. The building and grounds are beautiful and the rooms are basic but with AC and comfortable beds. The pool was a nice treat. Breakfast was substantial and served just off the courtyard. The wifi signal wasn't great in my room or in the lobby, but I wasn't expecting much. The hotel transfer was a bit expensive compared to taking a taxi, but the drivers were timely and professional and it was worth it to me not to have to deal with haggling with a taxi driver.
The location is great--just a five-minute walk to the ferry across the Nile and plenty of nearby shops, restaurants, and grocery stores. As a solo female traveler, I felt safe here, which is really important to me. I will definitely stay again if I ever return to Luxor.
- Lauren (8/5): - The hotel property is beautifully decorated. They have a nice, clean pool and outdoor couches to just lounge and hang out. The rooms were mediocre at best
- Verified traveler (8/5): Convenient for West Bank hotel - Convenient West Bank hotel that is clean, and comfortable. Staff is friendly and helpful. Hot Water is scalding hot so be careful showering. Has pool but did not use because it was too cold.,,but clean. Pleasant garden area and they strike up a fire in a pit each evening. Easy ferry or private boat across Nile for 5LE. Not much on the West Bank in evening but great launching pad for the sites.
- Ilona (8/5): Good value for a peaceful place on the west bank - Comfortable and clean, good value for money. Extensive breakfast and very friendly staff. The swimming pool is an asset!
- CLEOPATRA (6/5): A BASIC HOTEL, BUT GOOD STAFF, NEAR NILE, - NOTHING FANTASTIC, BUT SOMEWHAT CLEAN, NICE SPACIOUS COMPOUND, TREES AND A GOOD OUTSIDE DECOR, BUT A VERY BASIC ROOM, A GOOD PLACE FOR ONE TO TWO NIGHTS. FOR PRICE OK. AND ONE CAN SEAT OUT SIDE THE ROOM AND ADMIRE THE SCENEARY, FOR THIS NOT TOO BAD.
BUT NO FACILITIES IN ROOM, NO TV, NO PHONES. BUT GOT A SPACIOUS PLACE TO DO SOME YOGA AND ALSO SWIM.
- Christina (8/5): Conveniently located hotel on the west bank - Like so many other hotels in Egypt, the lack of customers has a detrimental effect on the maintenance of the hotel. It is clear that they are struggling to cope but in spite of all of the challenges, I enjoyed my stay. The staff was prepared to do anything to make our stay pleasant. Any requests was attended to quickly and efficiently. The hotel is close to the river (although no view of the Nile). It is a few minutes walk to the ferry and for only 1 Egyptian pound, you can travel with the ferry to the east bank.
The rate was very reasonable.
If you prefer the more local feel of a city, then this is an excellent choice.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Should not expect too much - Considering the price I payed per night (12 GBP) I should have been more prepared and tolerate, but as the previous customers reviews were outstandingly good, I was disappointed to see the reality. To be honest, the great thing about this hotel was only price and quiet neighbor. Apart from that, I have to say my room was not exactly clean, hot shower was unstable(in December, the temperature could get to single digit and it was freezing without hot shower),no heating in the room, not trained staff ( I asked for a hair dryer which was not equipped in the room, and 1 staff told me there is none in the facility, and I tried different staff next day, and yes they do have a dryer that guest could use), towels were very rough, one day they forgot to clean the room. I should not have expected more than I had paid for.
- Patrick (10/5): Good place to stay - This is a value for money hotel. It would be classed as a budget hotel but the service from the staff and management is 1st class. They are genuinely interested in making your stay a pleasure.
The rooms are clean with air condition
Finding the hotel the first time can be a bit of a challenge and the condition of the street access would lead you to question if you are in a safe location. The place is perfectly safe and its only 5 minutes walk to the main ferry which will take you to the east bank. I was perfectly happy staying here with my teenage daughters
- Nadia (8/5): A bit of tranquility in Luxor - Hotel staff were lovely and very helpful, let me check in early when I arrived at 6am. The hotel is built around a courtyard, and most importantly has a swimming pool which is very handy in the Egyptian heat. The location is on the West Bank of Luxor which is quieter and takes you out of the hassle of the main tourist area - I definitely found this a bonus as I was hassled non stop the second I walked around the East Bank. A ferry runs 24 hours a day to take you across the Nile for 1 egp per trip and the hotel is a 5 min walk from the ferry dock, very easy to find.
- Verified traveler (8/5): the hotel needs cameras - the owner is very considerate.
- Mike (10/5): Great value for money - Keen to please, the manager made sure we were looked after. Its clean, nice pool (which you NEED in Luxor) and serves a simple but wholesome breakfast (Continental + egg)
- Anna-Saqqara (10/5): We loved it , and we're heading back to stay there - All the staff are lovely ,and very helpful , they catered very happily to our needs , even catering to our vegetarian requirements .We especially loved returning to our beautifully cleaned rooms every day to find new creatures sculpted from the clean towels . They even helped us with creating individual tours to local sites and even a longer tour to Aswan and Abu Simbal .
- Diego Ramirez (10/5): Nice hotel with a pool - It is a ferry away from the main town which is only 5 mins and 1 egyptian pound. The staff was excellent. Rafael was amazing! He picked us from the ferry since we did not know where the hotel was.
The breakfast was yummy and the room was relly nice and clean.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Peaceful, calm oasis. - After the craziness of Cairo it was wonderful to be able to relax in this beautifully calm environment. A short walk from the ferry crossing, up a little lane, mosque and shops on the corner, kids playing. It's about as authentic Luxor as you will get. The British expat community use the hotel for some of their activities. The hotel is built for hot weather; I was there in winter but still it was very comfortable - use the extra blankets. The Staff are extremely friendly and helpful, by which I mean sensitive to European manners: no means no; what is the actual price; etc. Mohammid, the Manager, arranged a bike hire from the bike shop on the corner, £E100 for 4 days. On day 3 I got a puncture, this was sorted out within an hour and I was off again to the Valley of the Kings. I said I didn't want the balloon flight and that was that.
