• diver0077 (8/5): Nice property - The property was beautiful and the rooms were very spacious and clean. The only reason for not giving it a 5 is that the food was just average and the wi-fi was not the best. Plus for the two days we were there the power went 6 times briefly. I would stay there again if ever in Costa Rica, but they should address these short comings.

• CanTraveller5 (6/5): Did not meet our expectations - My feedback on this resort is mixed. The pool area and infinity pool has a beautiful view of the beach and ocean. There are several shade areas to relax in. The public areas were clean and well maintained. The rooms on the other hand were disappointing. Our first room was not clean and very minimally appointed. There was no place to put clothing and only one hook for towels. The balcony had no railing. We asked to be moved to another room. It was better however, it was oddly set up. There were no bedside lights but 4 ceiling lights. This resort is not for everyone. It has a lot of hills to get to and from the pool, restaurant and lobby. A few of the staff were very good but overall I would say service was average. We expected more based on the price.

• lorrainer186 (10/5): Stunning location - Stunning location with a beautiful infinity pool and close to a lovely sandy beach which is really quiet. The rooms are very spacious and very clean. Ours had a balcony with views over the beach. Beds are really comfortable. The staff are really great.

• cad_car_tour (6/5): Some improvements made, but still more needed - First off, the name of the resort is misleading because it is neither beachfront nor bungalows. It is 15-minute walk down steep steps, on a dirt path alongside the road, and across a crocodile-infested river to get to the beach. And the so-called "bungalows" are three stories tall, each with 7 units. Our ground-floor room was modern with large windows overlooking green hedges rather than the water. After reading some of the older reviews, it seems management has made some improvements. There are more shade structures surrounding the pool compared to earlier photos. Earlier reviews said there wasn't any water available at breakfast, but I recall jugs of ice water alongside the juice. Earlier photos and reviews indicated there weren't any lights at the bedside tables, but now lights have been added. Our bathroom had one short towel bar and one towel ring which is woefully inadequate for two people, let alone a family of four. There are ZERO wall hooks in the bathroom and the sleeping area, so there's no place to hang wet bathing suits, wet towels or clothes while you're taking a shower. The hanging rod beneath the bathroom shelves was nice as long as you didn't have anything longer than a shirt. The mattresses felt cheap, and not befitting of a luxury resort. The biggest frustrations with the room, however, was not having a door on the bathroom and not having any place to set our suitcases. We improvised, using the refrigerator and the coffee table for luggage racks. On the upside, the staff were friendly and responsive.
• James (10/5): - Beautiful resort with a beautiful view Carrillo of beach. The pool was amazing. The staff was friendly and welcoming. If you need to go to town it is a $15 taxi ride.
• Shawn (10/5): Nice hotel and property. - Our stay was very enjoyable. The property is very hilly and with bad knees it made it difficult to get around. But the hotel moved us to a room beside the office and on the ground floor which made everything easier for us.
• Domenica (2/5): - I had the misfortune of staying at Nammbú, and as a Costa Rican and avid traveler (who visited over 30 properties in 2024), this was by far the most appalling and concerning hotel experience I have had. Safety and Maintenance: The main door lock broke, leaving my room insecure (I am a woman traveling solo). Maintenance took 45 minutes to fix it and replace the entire door system. This happened at 10pm on Dec 31st, disrupting my New Year’s Eve plans. Later, the new lock rendered my key card useless, forcing me to seek help from a security guard to access my room at 4am. Unprofessional Staff: On New Year’s Day, I was rudely awakened at 8:40 a.m. by a housekeeper, despite having planned to rest and having my check-out scheduled for 12pm. Worse, if the lock hadn’t been repaired, the housekeeper could have entered while I was sleeping. Unsanitary Conditions: My room lacked Wi-Fi, and the toiletries provided were already opened and used. The hand soap caused me to develop dermatitis. Room Service and Food: The food was inedible—fish fingers were hard and tasteless, and a hamburger arrived raw, cold, and dry after repeated delays and follow-ups. Hotel’s Response: Management ignored my complaints and, when pressed, gaslit me by calling these incidents “minor inconveniences.”The hotel refused to take responsibility. They stated that not having me pay for the inedible food.
• oscar (8/5): Great Staff, but Management and Food Need Improve - This is a very good hotel with excellent and attentive staff. However, the overall management shows a lack of knowledge in basic hospitality standards. For example, there is moss in the pool, overly soft mattresses that become very uncomfortable, and staff members like the security guard and gardener are tasked with repairs. The lowest point is the food. Most dishes have an unpleasant taste of rancid oil, and the fruit is of poor quality. This is a crucial moment for the hotel to address these issues properly; otherwise, it risks falling into a downward spiral, which is hard to recover from. I emphasize once again that the staff is excellent and very attentive.

• Jonathan (2/5): - This was my family's third time staying at the hotel. We have always enjoyed our experience at the hotel which is why we returned for a third visit this past September. We were last there in April of this year and in March of 2023. Unfortunately, during this visit we encountered a security issue at the hotel, as I returned to the hotel room the morning of our last day at the hotel to obtain some items half way through breakfast and upon returning to the hotel room I entered and found a maintenance worker had broken in through the back glass doors which were open and he was searching our belongings. Someone had to have opened the lock on the doors for him as the glass was not broken. The maintenance worker was confronted and he left the room quickly. We reported the incident and it appeared that nothing was done at the hotel and no one was eager to help us, despite the fact we were there with 5 children. After the trip, I informed the owner and was advised by the owner that the maintenance worker was fired from his job and that the hotel had taken steps to deal with the issue. Because of this experience I would not return nor recommend the hotel to anyone.
• LittleBirdLe (6/5): Full potential not realized - Very hard to review this property. The pool, public areas and gardens are beautiful also very clean. The rooms are very large and ours had a fabulous balcony with great views but the rooms are very sparse with no pictures or colour. There is absolutely nowhere to hang your clothes also no hooks in bathroom for towels or robes. The staff are very nice and try their best but have obviously not been trained so no idea what they are doing. Not what you would expect from the overall experience which could be 5 Star. There are buggies to run you around if the walk is too steep or too far between reception, the pool, your room etc and I liked the fact that there is a what's app number which is responded to if you need any help. Very quiet and a taxi ride to town but our group liked this.

The food was very healthy fresh and tasty. The room view was amazing! The rooms were always clean and very big! Luxury like our own bathroom in the USA. Juan from pool bar was serving amazing drinks! Esteban was very professional and friendly! All staff excellent! My kids are so sad it’s the last day of our trip! We are going to return next June! The beach was very private with almost no tourists. Amazing hotel overall!!!

• noodles4life2020 (8/5): Nammbu Bungalows - We spent several nights here with our kids. It was a beautiful location - the pool area was great and the views of the beach were spectacular. The facilities were very clean and the rooms were large. The breakfast buffet was nice. There were a few things that should be improved: - there were no bathroom doors. I cannot understand how a place like this can have multiple people staying in a room with no door on the bathroom. We spent a lot of time planning who would go use the washroom and shower at which times - it would have been nice to have more to do for the children. They could really use a games room or some kind of entertainment. The vibe was more peace and quiet than family friendly. I would highly recommend renting a car in Samara for travel back and forth. There are excellent cafes and restaurants in Samara. Would very highly recommend El Colibri steakhouse which is a 2 minute walk away. The restaurant at Nammbu was more expensive and of lower quality (food and service) than the options off the resort.
• sued929 (10/5): Beautiful place to relax - At the end of a hectic 14 day tour of Costa Rica my friend and I elected to have 5 days R &R at this amazing hotel. It is beautiful the setting and views incredible and the staff are lovely. It was everything we hoped for quiet and with an incredible beach. It is isolated so a car is required if you want to see other places. Samura is 15 minutes by car.
• jacobdQ6217FX (2/5): Shamefully dirty, disgusting, filthy hotel. Mildew everywhere. Manager is unstable and unprofessional. - Shamefully dirty, disgusting, filthy hotel. Mildew everywhere - on the walls, inside the AC unit (which barely works), on the pillows they made the bed with, all over the inside of the fridge. Literally every surface of this hotel is covered in mildew; if the surface is not conducive to mildew it harbors some other type of filth. This is not just one bad room, we saw 3. Our first, we complained then they offered us one on a lower floor (losing the ocean view) which stunk like a wet basement and equally as gross. We declined. Finally Nammbu "upgraded" us to a master suite which we accepted because it had the least amount of visible filth. But, check the picture of the inside of the fridge and the AC air exit to see the level of mildew you get with a master suite. And the rodent poop on the bathroom shelf. This hotel should be shut down by the health authorities. DO NOT STAY HERE. Other complaints I will just list quickly: - tons of cockroaches in the bathroom - no water pressure in the shower - bathroom sinks plumbed improperly, lack of a P trap allows sewer gas and smell into the room - no shampoo provided (supposed to use body wash for shampoo?) As they say pictures are worth 1,000 words. We checked out after one day and re-arranged travel plans to go back to Arenal. We attempted to speak to the manager to try and get a refund as he was not working the prior day, however he already had a sour attitude and went to HIDE in the back room and refused to speak to us at all! He does not seem emotionally stable enough to manage a hotel and deal with guests.

• Avavera (10/5): Very nice place - Great hotel in a beautiful location near a beach but far from Samara centre. The access to the beach is rather easy and comfortable. The pool is great, unfortunately ruined by loud music at the pool bar. Breakfast is great, meals are nothing to write home about. Our room was huge, with a wonderful view on the sea, strange the closet in the bathroom and no door from the bathroom to the room.

• Shelby (6/5): - Everything about the Bungalows was excellent except the food and drinks. The room was fantastic and the front desk staff was very helpful and accommodating. They chased us down into the parking lot after we checked out to advise us we had an Expedia credit and they wanted to refund us the amount. Thanks for that. My only qualm was with the drinks and the food at the restaurant. They have a great happy hour deal on drinks by the pool in the afternoons. Problem is the booze is HEAVILY diluted. I finally ordered a martini as an experiment and it was so watered down I couldn’t even taste the gin. Which is basically all a martini is. Wild. We had dinner one night at the restaurant and it was mediocre at best. The seafood appetizer was frozen seafood in jarred pasta sauce. Our server brought out my wife’s main course and then asked me if I wanted to order something to eat after he had taken both our orders earlier. No big deal on the service as they were busy with a tour of retirees so I understand. But the food was lackluster. The chefs are obviously competent but they need to use better ingredients. No other dining options in the area unless you drive up to Samara, so they should really concentrate on improving the food. Once that is in play I would recommend Nammbu Bungalows without reservation.

Or an easy drive to Sámara for more options. Would have rated higher but they did not give any of the recognition for hotels.com gold - no room upgrade, no early check in or late checkout.

We stayed 3 days and were reluctant to leave the peaceful, comfortable and relaxing surroundings. The rooms were spacious and the beds were so comfortable. The views and sunsets were amazing! We will be back!
• Culture05338164723 (8/5): A lovely hotel with friendly service, but one or two quirks! - The best hotel of our Exodus tour by a country mile. Rooms are HUGE with clean, smart finishing and comfortable beds. Plumbing a bit old and noisy, but this is par for the course in CR. There is nowhere to hang anything: no closet, no hooks - literally not a hanger in the place. Oh and no drawers either. But we coped with that. The pool is beautiful, with a magnificent view, but sadly less than half the sunloungers are usable, because only about a dozen have any shade. They need parasols and more canopies. Service was good but the menus limited - especially for vegetarians. We were actually charged extra for a vegetarian version of a quesadilla, which was just bizarre. And no water at breakfast unless you want to buy a bottle- extraordinary! There are a couple of good restaurants down the road to the left worth trying. And please feed the poor skinny little cat who lives in the gardens round the pool!

• Daniel (6/5): - A. Hotel isn’t actually on beachfront. Down a path cross a street down the road a short walk. Beautiful beach when you get there. B. Expensive ocean view room has VERY limited view due to wall rather than balcony and room orientation. Must be standing to see tip of the bay. Room was large but spartan: bed, end tables with no lamps, two chairs, no sofa, blank walls, small built in, Coffee maker spit out moldy crud after 8 flushes with clean water. Told management immediately I was unsatisfied and said all ocean view rooms were like that and said they couldn’t make changes because I booked on Expedia. Friends had a double room for less than half the price that was nicer experience. C. Pool area was nice with a lovely bay view from corner of pool. Service was acceptable, dinner meals were very good, but never hot. Lunch varied meh to quite good. Breakfast buffet average . I have made multiple visits to Guanacaste and will likely do more research for better value next time.

When we arrived didn’t get the room we had choosing during the chek in, them we were moved to another room but the door lock didn’t work. So we were moved again to a different room. Three rooms in an hour after a long trip. Additionally, we had to carry our baggage around the whole hotel.

• Sarah (8/5): - I have stayed at Nammbú since it opened 2015 (in fact, it was still under construction and we were the first to stay in our room). The location is top-notch as is the staff. The views are gorgeous. The only disappointment has been to see the lack of maintenance, especially in the bathrooms. Since that first visit I have returned to on four occasions. On our first visit, I assumed that the poorly fitted glass shower surrounds would be tuned up. They never were, and have gotten worse, and water rom the shower head easily sprays out, creating a small flood on the floor. The grout has never been cleaned, and in places it is filthy. The shower spout leaked out the side and the handle came off in my hand. I work in real estate, and I hate to see properties degrade by lack of routine maintenance. I hope ownership sees these comments and tunes up the weak spots.
• Vivian (10/5): A splurge for us that was rewarded. Beautiful!! - Beautiful property with a fun pool/bar area. The view from the infinity pool was beautiful to watch the sunset. The property isn’t exactly beach front but the beach is accessible by a stairway and across the road. It’s not difficult but would make the beautiful beach inaccessible for those that might be physically challenged. The rooms were large and a lovely balcony to watch the birds and have coffee in the morning. We ate at the restaurant above the pool and on this night it was a buffet and excellent. The food and service were great. The next day we ate early at the lower pool side service and is was just mediocre. The service there was not attentive at all as the upper restaurant staff was very attentive. The property is perched on the edge of a huge hill so walking around the grounds is a walk up and down steep paths. We would stay here again.
• Jennifer (6/5): - We booked this last minute 3 days after having our valuables and passports stolen. We drove 5 hours from San Jose and arrived 2 hours before dark, so were keen to get to the beach to salvage our last day in C.R. We were shown to our room at the bottom of a steep hill, and our keys didn't open the door. A staff member ran back to the lobby and returned to put us in a different room. After he left we realized they didn't provide a safe key. I asked a staff member and he said he would send someone with the key, In the meantime we realized our patio door lock was broken and we could not lock that door. Having been robbed two days previously, all we wanted was a safe and doors that locked. I walked to the lobby and got the safe key, which did not work in the safe. The maintenance man showed up and broke the safe key off in the safe lock, then proceeded to try to fix the door lock. I went back up the steep hill to ask for a room with a functioning lock and door. After an hour we finally got moved to a room with a working door lock and safe. It was very frustrating and disappointing to lose a precious hour after the thieves had taken our valuables and three days of our vacation from us. After this fiasco, we found the room to be clean, large, modern and pleasant. The grounds of the resort are lovely. Views from the pool and restaurant are gorgeous, and the beach, Playa Carrillo, was one of the nicest beaches I've seen in Costa Rica. Better customer service is all needed
• Daniel (10/5): Incredible hotel with the friendliest staff - Our stay at Nammbu was incredible. The resort overlooks beautiful Playa Carrillo which is only a short walk away. The property is designed to create a magical experience surrounded by the jungle. The best part of our stay were the staff who made us feel extremely welcomed and catered to our every need. They were so hospitable, smiling and friendly it was difficult to leave.
• Mitzi (10/5): - We so loved the staff! From Donavon, to Fabian to greet us in the lobby to Maikel and Alonzo and Jerzon(sp) in the breakfast dining area. AndDavid in the pool bar! Everyone was so wonderful, we were there 12nights and loved every day there! Your staff made such a great impression, we will stay again with you. This is our second time we stayed at this property! We will tell all of your friends about this place and we will definitely be back again! Pura Vida!
• Matt (8/5): - Beautiful location overlooking one of the nicest beaches in the area. The hotel provided everything necessary for a wonderful experience. The rooms were clean, modern and generously proportioned. My only suggest for improvement would be the installation of washroom doors in the rooms with two beds (... it's an OK layout for couples, but a little awkward sharing a double with our teen kids). All-in-all, a great resort with great staff.
• Michelle (6/5): Physically fit only - Long walks to get anywhere and you are either going up or down. Then to be on the third floor. I’m exhausted New year eves dinner was disappointing, service was slow, our shower you had to push a button and hold it to shower. Called, 3 days never fixed it.

• Abu (10/5): - We stayed at the resort for 8 days. The staff made our stay very welcoming. David, Michael, Daniela, Freddie, just to name a few..were professional, they took care of our family especially my allergies when it came to my diet. In the morning they made me gf vegan pancakes which were amazing. The hotel was clean beyond words. We enjoyed our date night at the bar and David made the best cocktails not to mention his company was so much fun. We will be back! Cant wait to see all the staff again soon.
• Gambino (4/5): - The front desk staff was unfriendly and unwelcoming They gave us a room next the maintenance crew rooms and repair area very noisy in the mornings. The overall staff appeared unfriendly and rude. I would not call this a vip hotel and don’t forget the long walk which was uphills to the front desk. Would not recommend this hotel or stay at this hotel ever. Worse experience!

• Laura (8/5): - The staff was super friendly. The on-site restaurant had good food and we ate there several times out of convenience. The drinks were excellent, but expensive and not very strong. The pool area was beautiful, and we were able to see lots of wildlife like monkeys and iguanas on the property. The rooms were very large. Unlike some of the reviews that complained about the bathrooms having no doors, ours did have one, thank goodness. There were some odd things about the room like where the outlets were located. We were located in a bungalow that was in the middle and had to walk up a very steep incline and then down a steep incline to get to the bar/pool area. This was fine for us, but this is definitely not a hotel for anyone with serious mobility issues. Also, getting to the beach involved a steep set of stairs and walking along the road for a little ways. There was very little traffic, so not a huge deal, but something to be aware of. The beach was beautiful with very few people ever on it. We stayed out on the beach past the time the gate closed to explore tide pools at low tide and had to walk up and around to the front of the property. There are a couple of restaurants within walking distance, but we mostly drove to Samara to eat. Great restaurants there. Overall, very enjoyable!

• Alexandra (8/5): Great Stay…poor sleep! - Beautiful property and the amazing location is just a short walk to a beautiful empty white sand beach. The service at the pool was friendly, helpful and attentive. The food and drinks at the pool were great and the family had a lot of fun just having a relaxing pool day. The rooms were nice, large and very clean but lacked comfort. The beds were way too broken in and we had a hard time sleeping on them. The a/c stopped working at times during the night and the room could get very hot and uncomfortable. Even though the food at the pool was great the breakfast was uninspired and not well prepared. Even for the low price of $20 it wasn’t worth it in comparison to other Costa Rican hotels we’ve had at other stops. I would suggest jumping in the car one town over to samara and they having breakfast there. In so many ways we loved this property and would stay again. But it’s hard to struggle to sleep at night and still enjoy the next day. Probably wouldn’t stay again…
• Michelle (10/5): - This was a beautiful property. Then infinity pool was stunning! The rooms were clean and beautiful view. The food offered in the buffet breakfast was good. It would be nice if there were more choices or changes from day to day. Things that could be improved: Doors on the bathrooms. Access to water coolers as there isn’t anywhere to refill water bottles and no access to ice which could be used with the tap water (not cool enough to drink). It would be great if the hotel had a sign out system for: boogies boards, beach towels, beach chairs. It would be nice to have a reasonable menu to order from. Everything listed was $15 USD for lunch. We ate off resort each day and night. If they want people to use their beautiful cocktail bar area, they should offer happy hour each with reasonable happy hour price to draw people in. They have so many people visiting so now they just need people to spend $ on site. If they lowered prices with specials I am sure most people would stay on site and enjoy the gorgeous views. They also have beautiful drinks at the bar by the pool. If they had lower prices or daily specials, and had a waiter or two coming around taking orders, I am sure they would drum up a tonne of business. Having made these suggestions, we would still absolutely stay here again as the daily rate was reasonable and the pool area was exquisite. The 4 min walk to get to Carrillo beach was also very worth it. We did a five km walk every morning & waves great for boarding

• Adriana (10/5): - This hotel is a 10/10 Very clean, staff is extremely friendly. They’re always cleaning and making sure the hotel is in tip top shape! Pool is amazing. Beach access is just down the stairs and across the road. Sunset is gorgeous from pool or beach. Food was good too, and the cost for everything is extremely reasonable. The rooms are so so so spacious too! Beautiful views from the room! I will definitely be back to this hotel.

Pool is overlooking the bay with panty of shade and sun to enjoy entire day. Great breakfast buffet and great restaurant. Everything is much more beautiful then in pictures. Super friendly and helpful staff! Highly recommending!

• Thomas (6/5): - Beautiful room, beautiful view. The staff was very friendly, but their hands were tied in regards to negotiating a reduction in the room price. The jacuzzi had a drain issue and was unusable. They tried several times to fix it, but were unable. The larger problem was almost no water pressure in the shower in the morning. Barely a trickle and not enough volume to activate the diverter valve. To give you an idea, had you attempted to fill a water glass, it would have taken at least 30 seconds. The staff was sorry about it, but unable to lower the price of the room ($279.00) They did offer us breakfast and they did subtract our bar bill from the previous evening ($32.00) Over all, we were disappointed with the experience.

• Verified traveler (8/5): - This is our second stay at the property. Naambu presents itself as a higher end resort in the District of Puerto Carrillo. However, that shouldn’t dissuade you from looking at this property. Perhaps a bit pricey per night but it does have amenities others may not not have. For one, while not every room has a direct ocean view, the hillside property lends itself to many lovely ocean views- not withstanding the infinity pool which looks directly at Playa Carrillo, and the sunsets are amazing. Two, the beach is a short walk away and is one of the better swimming beaches of CR. Even during high season, it is not busy. It is mainly just locals, with few amenities. That is, there aren’t any bars nearby, though there are a few local vendors selling beverages mainly. There is a modern minimalist feel to the rooms. Rooms are very spacious and clean. Grounds are lovely, yet environmentally conscious as well. The staff is great. They do their best to go above and beyond your expectations with their service.Breakfast is included and the local juices are wonderful. We returned for the location, as the Samara is is one of the most enchanting places in Costa Rica.

On one hand there are the views of playa Carrillo (outstanding) the quality of the facilities, its design (modern yet tropical) spacious and gorgeous rooms. Not doubt that after Punta Islita, Nammbu is the best offer around the area. But on the other hand the hotel has serious parking problem there is no relation whatsoever between hotel occupancy and parking spaces provided for guests, in addition the problem is not handled property by the staff specially at night resulting in guest displeasure. Also, limited assortment of breakfast options, besides the buffet is often out of stock thus the clientele has to wait until the staff restores food in the containers (this happened all three days we ate there) Finally, but not least the bathroom does not have doors, thus if you’re traveling in a group be prepared to deal with the total lack of privacy while taking a shower or changing clothes. In conclusion, all around, mixed feelings. Therefore, my rate reflects which I value the most.
• BK (8/5): - I would not classify this hotel as beachfront. It is across a major road and up a hill from the beach. The beds were very firm and uncomfortable for my tastes. Other than that the hotel has great views, great service and is a nice place to stay.

City around is ok but very dirty.. not recommended for families!!

• Verified traveler (6/5): - The property and the view of the beach were beautiful. My family loved the pool. The hotel room could have had more amenities, however. There were not even tissues! Though the room was pretty, it did not offer much privacy...the bathroom did not have a door and the shower was solid glass all the way around, so it made showering a bit uncomfortable. Getting to our room, which was near the pool area, was difficult. There is a steep hill you have to climb up to get to the pool area and many of the rooms. Also, there are not elevators, so getting to your room on the second or third floor with luggage is a hassle. I would not recommend this for anyone with physical challenges for these reasons.
