Guest Reviews
- INBAR (6/5): - No elevator, very weak wifi (not private), bit old. Nice room size, there is onsen
- Marco (8/5): - Tutto perfetto. Metro nelle vicinanze. Siti culturali e religiosi a piedi.
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Shoko (8/5): - It was very cozy.
- Larno (10/5): - Good location that is close to various attractions in Gion. Metro and bus station options not too far. Good dining options for breakfast and lunch. Dinner options in area needs some planning in advance and for some places prebooking arrangements.
- Dario (10/5): - Situated in a very quiet part of the city but not too far from the central area full of shops, restaurants and interesting sites. The rooms are in typical Japanese style, sliding doors, futon and a low coffeetable with pillows to sit on instead of chairs. All in all a great real experience.
- Lawrence (10/5): - Great and friendly staff
- John (10/5): - The property was in a great location for walking to many of the major locations I wanted to see. Within 20 to gion and most everything is 10-15 minutes away including the philosophers path and the subway station. The staff where nice and helped us carry our luggage and were overall very helpful. I would definitely stay here again another year!
- Wyatt (10/5): - Beautiful location and friendly staff.
- Malaterre (10/5): - Kindly kept our luggage sent by Yamato for 10 days, which really helped our trip.
- Samantha (10/5): - We stayed at this property in 2016, and returned for our most recent trip in March 2025. The property had been renovated in that time and clearly updated throughout. Something to consider when booking this hotel is that there is no elevator. However, we didn’t find that it affected our stay at all, since the accommodations were perfectly clean and quiet. Rooms are pretty spacious and the set breakfast is delicious! Keep in mind you'll need to let the front desk know the night before if you want breakfast the next day.
Easy access to transportation and tons of shrines nearby. Restaurants are a little more on the expenside side in this part of Kyoto, but there are lots of convenience stores nearby and even a 7/11 on the corner.
We look forward to staying here again in the future, and can't say enough wonderful things about the sweet owners of this inn!
- Grace (8/5): - This hotel was nicely located near Keage Incline, philosopher’s path and the temples in the hills. Also, close to public transport and 7-11!!!
Our room was quiet and cozy. It had extra mats, so we doubled ours and were more comfortable!
Staff was always polite and friendly. Nice stay!
- Lourdes (8/5): - Your front desk staff was wonderful, the property could use a little face lift
- Cameron (10/5): - Good stay, japanese style room was a great experience
- Yvonne (10/5): - Slightly old fashioned but spacious, clean and comfortable room. Lovely location in the east of the city near to beautiful canal and close to subway. Ideal for sightseeing on foot in that area of the city. No lift but not an issue for us. Lovely staff who spoke English. Would definitely stay there again if visiting Kyoto.
- Ramona (10/5): - Very clean
- Gayathri (10/5): Decent stay - Well maintained hotel. Basic
- DAN (8/5): - The towers look like not clean , little smelly
- Lawrence (10/5): - Very nice place to stay if you want to be a little away from the crowd. Still very easy to get to numerous places to eat and walking distance to a number of temples and shrines. Very nice staff and delicious breakfast.
- Alexander (10/5): - I don't think there is a better location in Kyoto to stay. You are away from the busier spots in Kyoto and the mountains are just a walk away. Getting up in the mornings and getting to explore right outside the hotel was very exciting. Great staff and quiet, clean rooms. Would highly recommend!
- Jose (10/5): - Great place to stay in .
- Carlos (10/5): - The staff was attentive and kind. They tried their best to use English so that my partner would understand the conversation. I was even allowed to leave my luggage in order to explore on the day I was meant to checkout.
- Noah (10/5): - Staff was great and friendly - hotel was clean and comfortable - great area within walkable distance from several temples, shrines, and museums. Will definitely stay here again. 10/10. 5 stars
- Fumio (8/5): - Unexpectedly, I enjoyed a big bath! The room I stayed was clean and tidy, and the staff was kind and heartwarming!!
- Megan (10/5): - The food options, the people, location, qnd inner room was all amazing.
- Stefan (10/5): - Und das es einen onsen hatte.
- Spencer (6/5): - This property has three floors but no elevator. So if your assigned room is on the third floor, you would need to carry your luggage up the flight of stairs. Front desk staff spoke English. I arrived before dinner time, reception requested a staff from the kitchen team to help me with my luggage. The property is ideally located; 5 mins on foot to Heian Shrine and 20 mins on foot to Kiyomizudera.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I was suprised to find they have a nice little onsen style bath. It’s modest but perfect after a long flight. And most of the staff spoke English.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice but nothing fancy - If you need a warm place to sleep in December, this hotel will do just fine. Staff super friendly and helpful. Restaurant in the main lobby was good for a quick meal. Nothing fancy here, though. No elevator, so be prepared. Rooms are a little shabby and small, but they are clean. Not much room to move or space for luggage. Cramped for a family of three.
- Ian (8/5): Great location - Great location, friendly staff. They can watch your luggage while you site see after checkout. The building is older and the bathrooms are quite small.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The room is very small as well as the bathroom. The location is pretty good for sightseeing and food.
- E (8/5): Great for budget travelers and backpackers - Staff were amazing to hold my luggage until check in time. The area is a bit far from Kyoto station, but it's located near a shrine with the zoo nearby. There is no lift but the staff placed my luggage in my room already so I wouldn't have to struggle to the 3rd floor. They provide towels, tooth brush and paste, some samples, Yukata, and the floor was all tatami mat, you can find your futon in the cupboard and you'll have to make it yourself, very comfy by the way and I had a great night sleep. The bathroom was tiny which I didn't mind but the sink and toilet are out dated. But it was only for a night so I didn't mind. All was good for my short stay!!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good place to stay in Kyoto - A very nice place to stay. Although it's not too close to most of the attractions in kyoto, it's located in a nice and quiet area. The Inn itself is somewhat moderne with either western style rooms with beds or more traditional Japanese futon. They also provide onsen which is a plus. The traditional rooms are quite spacious with many utilities. Our experiences were really good.
- Ben (8/5): Decent - Pretty small, especially the bathroom. Kind of old and sedated, but I'm also used to American hotels. Not bad for the price.
- Sasha (10/5): Hot mineral bath! - The best thing about this pleasant place is the hot baths. Each room has a tiny tub, but downstairs there are baths, separate for men and women, that are like a small shallow swimming pool full of hot water, with adjoining areas to wash before you get in. Lovely! Pool has polished-granite floor and surround, and a sign says it's natural mineral water, but it smells and feels like ordinary water. Open 3pm til midnight. Wonderful.
Also the location is excellent, a mile or less from the bottom of the Philosopher's Way, and right across the street from two art museums. There are varied restaurants in easy walking distance and you can buy breakfast at the hotel. 7-11 on the corner has lots of takeout food and will heat it for you or there's a microwave in the hotel lobby, & drink vending machines. The staff are very nice indeed, tho with limited English. The rooms, tho clean, are nothing special, but the baths are special enough for anything!
