- Lori (10/5): Home away from home with Roman history - I was impressed at the quality of the hotel and the hosts. My train was late and they stayed waiting for me as they do not live onsite. Then the next day they gave me a tour of the hotel including the history - a lot of love went into the renovation. The fact I stayed at a hotel with one of the last Roman walls but also a Carolingian wall - was so impressive. When I was shown my room - I was stunned by the beauty and comfort. The owners went to a lot of effort to ensure the suite was comfortable and had things for a good stay. The welcome gift was cookies and the local liqueur Ratafia. When I asked for a local Catalonian restaurant, they provided a great place and helped me make reservation. Do not hesitate - this is like home away from home.

Our room was beautiful - the property honours it’s history yet has all the modern amenities you could want and is well-maintained. Although a bit difficult to initially get to with luggage, the property is in a perfect location to explore Girona. The only possible thing that could make it better would be stronger internet and a full length mirror - however those things are not really needed and feel a bit silly to complain about when you are sleeping under a gothic arch and a ceiling that was hand painted in the 14th century. We loved Girona and hope to return one day and when we do, we would most definitely stay here again!

- John (8/5): 2nd visit here. - Our 2nd visit here and we would not consider staying anywhere else in Girona but a few things have slipped.. honesty bar fridge needs restocking more often and we had no coffee machine in our room but the room and view was fantastic. Eric is lovely and very helpful .

My kids called the hotel and told them it was my birthday and I was greeted with a bottle of champagne, muffins and a note from my kids...that extra touch melted my heart!! Also we were surprise to find breakfast outside our door. Love this hotel....thank you Eric and staff!!

- AJ (10/5): Absolute perfection - We arrived on Monday evening and were met by Eric who showed us round and took us to our room. This property only has 3 rooms and we had the suite on the middle floor - Els Festejadors. You have a lift that takes you straight into the suite where there is a kitchen area, bathroom, lounge area with a small table and chairs and then the bedroom, which is huge with an enormous bed. Everything was spotlessly clean and you have everything you need to be a bit self sufficient if you want to eat at the hotel rather than going out. There's a fridge, kettle, toaster, microwave, hob, sink, crockery and cutlery, etc, all for your use. There is air conditioning in the lounge area and a big fan in the bedroom. Downstairs is the courtyard with tables and chairs, and Jimmy's Bar which is stocked with a selection of cold drinks, tea, a kettle and a Nespresso machine for coffee with a good selection to choose from. Eric is a brilliant host who will tell you of the history of the building and help with navigating the city. We mostly used it as a base to explore the city but also spent time relaxing in the suite, which is big enough to do this. It's not like you're stuck in a hotel room; this is much more a home from home. All in all, a perfect 5 days.

- Jillian (10/5): Will be back! - Amazing place. Loved our room. Quirky and comfortable. Eric is lovely and replaced kettle within minutes when I noticed it was broken. Shower had limescale on it and a small leakage from the room above which he said would be fixed. He is truly lovely and we would definitely stay there again.

It is a piece of history with updates that make it comfortable while not stealing away the historical beauty. The owner and host, Eric, is just as amazing as the property. He went out of his way to make our stay wonderful. He provided everything from restaurant suggestions to umbrellas for use on the rainy day. If you have the opportunity to stay here, take it. You will not be disappointed. Thanks to Eric for all the effort it took to make this into such a wonderful and historic place to stay, and for making our trip unforgettable. You did an amazing job and are truly a great and gracious host. We wish you all the best and hope to have the opportunity to return. The WiFi works great. Refrigerator, cook top, microwave, and dishes/cutlery provided in kitchen (including a cork screw). Room access via elevator or stairs. Free bar offered in common area (We did not use, so not sure variety offered) Quite part of town, with short walk to shops and restaurants. It is located near the top of town, so returning means going uphill and steps, but this hotel is well worth it.
- SUE (10/5): Something Special - This apartment was as good as the photos suggested and although being hard to find (GPS gets confused) it was worth the effort. Located in a residential area made it quiet but there were no restaurants close by for meals. Self catering was an option if you were organised as parking was a fair walk away and the cobbled streets made draging a suitcase impossible. You need to have your backpack ready to go when you find a parking spot.....which may not be easy! A great building, very comfortable, beautifully renovated, charming host.

- Kevin (10/5): Great Stay - To sum it up, we determined that if/when we’re fortunate enough to return to Girona (an absolutely amazing city) we will absolutely be staying here again. Staying at this hotel allows you to immerse yourselves in what makes Girona so special. The architecture is incredible, room was very clean, bed comfortable, room clean, service was great (Eric was informative and helpful, and the hotel provided complimentary drinks which was much appreciated). We truly had the best time and were in awe with the hotel.

- Annie (8/5): Historic facility in the heart of the old town. - This boutique hotel makes you feel like you have gone back in time. It is an historic building that has been restored. Although the hotel has lots of potential, it is not luxurious. Despite a beautiful and likely difficult renovation, the bathroom and kitchenette were not pristine. The bathroom also lacked the amenities we expected. The young owner Eric was extremely helpful and very pleasant. The hotel is difficult to find which adds to it’s charm.

The suite we stayed in was fabulous - the restoration work in the suites is beautiful. Eric puts such nice detailed touches in each room and gives such warm, personal service - our stay was completely 5 star! Eric is so passionate about his work and it shows. Our stay was flawless. - Stacey (10/5): Memorable and truly fabulous stay - We LOVED staying at Palau dels Alemanys. This is a truly historic spot (walls in the courtyard were built by Romans 400 AD!), but beautifully renovated with modern amenities. Eric was a great help when we arrived, providing great guidance on where to go when exploring the old town and for dinner. Additionally, the hotel could not be located in a better spot. We hope to return here in the future and continue exploring Girona.
- Cecil (8/5): Pleasant,central hotel- poor access and parking. - The hotel itself is very characterful and the living and bedroom accomodation is fine. The 'kitchen' is small but adequate as is the bathroom. The hotel is very convenient for access by foot to the town. Eric,the owner is pleasant and helpful. The big drawback to this hotel is the poor directions on Hotels.com website. You cannot drive to the hotel but must park some distance away and walk and this is not explained. In addition parking throughout the day is virtually impossible as the nearest parking areas are all taken by university staff and students from early morning to late evening. Consequently elderly or infirm customers would have significant difficulty.

- Renee (10/5): Amazing place to stay in Girona - This was such a fantastic, restored medieval suite that was way beyond a hotel room. I am a seasoned world traveler and I think this is one of the best places I have ever stayed in my life. It is unbelievable how both ancient and current the place is. Eric was delightful and gave us the history of his family restoring this old monastery but keeping all of its character with modern conveniences. It is really beyond description and felt like being in a different era and different world but with all the comfort and warmth needed today. If you can book a room there, don't hesitate for a minute. You will be awed.

- Martyn (10/5): Explore the history... - AS Palau dels Alemanys is a beautifully restored set of apartments that are nestled within the confines of the Roman wall built back in the 8th century.? situated near the cathedral and the historic wall walk it also has great access to loads of cafe's and restaurants, all walkable whilst losing yourself in the maze of alleys when exploring the ancient city.... Absolutely recommend a visit here, it's a terrific place to look around...

Friendly English speaking host, Eric, who welcomed us, called cabs, and was generally and extremely helpful. There is a small bar, not alcoholic, but with free coffee at any time.

Large apartment sized room with historic interest and a lot of amenities. Manager seemed informative and helpful upon check in but that was the last we saw of him for 3 days. Supplies in room not replenished for 2 days. No toiletries provided. Owner provided his cell phone for contact but answered it only once and when I had additional questions soon after first call, I never received response either by phone text or email. Never saw him at checkout. Poor service

- Ben (10/5): This was our best stay in Spain. - If you truly want a unique and special stay in Girona, do not miss this hotel. The parking is a bit of a distance from the hotel but the room itself was wonderful. Part of the hotel is actually the old Roman wall that surrounded the city and it makes up the quaint courtyard inside. It is located on a quiet street (across from a convent) in the most beautiful part of Girona.

It's on a very quiet street in Girona, and at night you can hear the wildlife, yet just a few winding stone street blocks away you can stumble upon many cafes, restaurants, bars and shops. So convenient and romantic, would consider ourselves very lucky to stay there again. Eric was very helpful and informative, and a joy to talk to. This is the sort of place you could happily stay in for a month, we were sad we had only booked a couple of nights. Can't wait to come back! :)
- Louisa (10/5): Stunning accommodation in picturesque surroundings - We spent two extraordinary nights at AS Palau in Girona. While Girona itself is a gem, staying here made the trip so memorable. We felt part of the history! A beautifully done restoration: all the expected comforts in ancient surroundings. The courtyard and Jimmy's bar added to the special feel of the place. Eric was a great host: helpful with dinner recommendations and helping us get a taxi but also gave us privacy. A quiet street but 3 minute walk to shops/restaurants or the great Roman Wall walk. We traveled with our kids (ages 9 & 11) and they loved the feel of the place as well.
- Pat (10/5): Historic, Quirky, Perfect - My 13 year old daughter and I both loved this quaint, family run hotel in a historic building. It has been renovated to add all the modern conveniences while accenting the aged architectural details and charm. The hotel is difficult to get to by car,as the streets of the old town are quite narrow. But if you call the hotel when you are close, someone will come meet you and, at that point, your troubles are over. The hotel is located on a very quiet street at the top of the old town near a serene little park where you can ascend the walls of the city for a beautiful view over the entire old town. We were given a very nice welcome and all the help we could have wanted with restaurant recommendations, etc. I highly recommend it.

- Gloria (10/5): Amazing Hotel, Amazing Place to Stay. Wow. - First of all, I want to alert everyone that this is a family hotel. They don't have a 24 hour concierge or anything like that. What they do have is the most amazing building with the nicest guy running the place. We arrived around 10:30 p.m. or as they say in Europe, 22:30. No one was there so I was a bit confused as to how to reach the guy. Luckily I had informed him (and if you're running late, you should give him a heads up) that we were running late. He was out in the neighborhood and came to us in a few. I was totally agog when he showed us the place. The pictures don't lie. Most hotel pictures show you pics of their best rooms while you end up in an inferior room Not this place! And because they don't have staff, the lobby has an open bar! As in free (or at least in the winter when we were there - summer crowds may be different). You just go in and help yourself to a stiff martini. And there is the cutest kitchen included in the room! I told the guy that I have some nieces that I want him to meet because I want to be his aunt! And of course, as his aunt, I'll always make sure that they reserve a room for me. Totally worth going to Girona, just to stay in this place.... and oh yes, Girona is a fabulous place to sightsee and to eat well (amazing restaurants - plus with the kitchnette, you can reheat the leftovers!!). They filmed Season 6 (?) of Game of Thrones there too, if that helps you seal the deal.
