Guest Reviews
- Stephen (4/5): Avoid staying here if you can. - The fact that they require a vaccine card should be mentioned in their Hotels.com profile. Luckily for me I had it in my car. I don't mind if some hotel owners want to require it, but it should be pretty clearly stated. The owner told me that I didn't need to use the air conditioner, that I should open the windows. How about I decide that? The room was musty-smelling, and everything was very dated and just didn't feel very clean. There are better options in Great Barrington. This is a place to stay if everything else is booked up. Otherwise, it should be avoided.
- Karen (10/5): - The retro knotty pine room was very clean, quite spacious, with a table and chairs convenient for our take-out dinner. The ice machine was broken, and the "breakfast" was a choice of cold cereals.
- Frank (4/5): - It wasn’t that clean, the carpet felt damp, the chairs had hair stuck to the seats. There was no room to move in the Bathroom-the soap bar was the size of a cheez it- no room on the tiny pedestal sink to do anything. We were supposed to have a continental breakfast, but owner decided to do only on weekends.
- DeAnne (8/5): - Well maintained property, large clean rooms, vintage furnishings. Comfortable, quiet atmosphere right on the main route through town. Just a few minutes from the wonderful Norman Rockwell Museum, a must-see. Bakery next door, walking distance to shopping plaza with grocery store, Marshall's, McDonald's and more.
- Denise (10/5): - Property was nice, room/bath was clean, bedding was great. Owner was onsite and helpful. We would stay again!
- ROBERT (4/5): - good parking
- Verified traveler (8/5): Old style rural motel - An economical choice in an area where hotels are not abundant and can be fairly expensive. Office is kind of disorganized. Checkout time is earlier than most hotels (10 AM). A bit far from the main tourist locations in the area. Bathroom in decent condition. Traditional wood paneling décor. Linens a bit worn but clean and still a fairly comfortable room. Internet connectivity slow and sometimes unreliable. At times I had to use my hotspot that I carry with me on trip.
- Gail (8/5): - I loved the salt water pool.
I hated the neighbors who talked all night until 4 in the morning.
- Teny (2/5): - Disgusting
- David (6/5): - Was quiet and convenient
- John (4/5): - Our room was entered by a hallway, through a closet. There was barely room enough to walk around the room. The check in failed to tell us check out was 10am so we were rushed because the housekeeper had "to go to work." Not a place we will ever stay again or recommend.
- James (6/5): Okay overall but doesn’t honor reservations prices - Overall stay was okay but only stayed from past 2am until 8-8;30 a.m and had reserved a room specifically for about 89 bucks but when arrived was made to pay extra fifteen totaling a hundred something for a different room when I had already booked and reserved a different room for fifteen dollars less just feel like they don’t honor reservations and that isn’t a good way to run a business especially when I was barely even using the room and also did not like how there was a door entering another room that couldn’t get into and a second small creepy door in the bathroom that couldn’t open made us feel uncomfortably creeped out, other than that the stay was okay but businesses are supposed to honor paid reservations regardless so if you don’t mind not getting your reservation and being made to pay extra when your not even using the whole paid for time to begin with they go ahead and go there lol wasn’t dirty or anything but I’d recommend to the business to honor reservations in future..
- Beth (6/5): Lantern house motel - The walls were dusty, lots of dust piled along edges of room. Carpwt was very ols and not maintained. The tv was way out dated and not very good reception, very limited channel choices.
- Jane (8/5): - We had business in the area and loved the price of the motel. We were given two connected rooms making it so easy to talk and plan.
I would call this motel eclectic and quirky. The beds were comfortable. We had everything needed. Breaskfast was minimal. Wonderful hot water for shower or bath.
Staff was very pleasant and helpful.
I would stay here again.
- Michael E. (2/5): - The owner said he cancelled my Expedia reservation and had me pay on my credit card at check-in.
The sign out front said hot tub in room- not true.
The wi-fi was horrible (there are many complaints in the reviews about this and nothing has been done).
At check-in the owner said the rooms were in great condition and there was nothing more to be done to improve the rooms. Not true. Very old tile in room 15 bathroom. The carpet is very old. I would not recommend this motel.
- Miriam (10/5): - The owner was very friendly and the room was comfortable
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice staff. Wifi was spotty but is being worked on. Nice room and TV
- YOSHINAO (10/5): - Quiet, so far everything comfortable for my family..
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Property was clean, room was tidy. Very nice family motel. Pool in back is nice also.
- Josh (8/5): - Its a very simple motel but the price is right for the area and time of year. Plus, the pool is super nice!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owner is friendly and helpful. The room had everything I needed. A short drive to Tanglewood.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Advertised breakfast, but only cereal, milk, and juice. Wifi intermittent at best and when i asked to get it checked, was chastised for "complaining after paying the low rate on Expedia. Then staff wouldn't even help me get a taxi to get off the property at checkout time since no wifi means no Uber.
- Linda (6/5): - The hotel was clean but dated. Bathroom was small and dated. Check out time of 10 a.m. was too early.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The Management/Owners threw me out because I have a Service Animal.(Labrador Retriever) They were rude and incomprehensible.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - the owner was concerned about my back and switched our room to one that had an enhanced bed. He was very kind and thoughtful.
- Verified traveler (6/5): okay - Unfortunately, the host did not read/write english well so it took some time to find my reservation. Room was clean but not sure about the bedspread, definitely wont stay there again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Room was spacious and clean. A little outdated but not too bad at all. Plenty of hot water for the shower. Air conditioning was very good. Street noise was not noticeable. Breakfast was just coffee with non-dairy creamer and cereal. Not sure if that was due to the pandemic or not. Plenty of restaurants within a short drive or even a walk. Friendly family run place.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Was rudely told to leave and canceled my reservation on the spot for not having a vaccine card.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Very rude owners. The rooms stunk of curry. Moved to another hotel after one night.
- nancy (10/5): - The facility was very nice, old school motel.
The check out is 10:00 am which I have never heard of. The owner/manager was all business and zero customer service. He never mentioned there was a pool out back that was usable for the guests.
- John (10/5): - Great place and great service
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Aside from not being stocked with soap, the room itself was fine. The problem was there was a scary crazy women staying in the room next to me. Apparently she lives there? She sits outside of room # 4 for hours and glares at people and talks to herself. I did not feel comfortable or safe staying there, I complained several times and the manager told me to call the police if she was bothering. My friend picked me up for dinner and she glared at him in the door way of her room 1/2 naked. Needless to say...I did not spend the night there and they refused to give me a refund, arguing that the best they could offer me was a $25 discount. For $208 per night all of this is completely unacceptable!!!! I work hard for my money and I went there to relax-not to be stalked or harassed by some weirdo who clearly needs to be in an assisted living facility. I will not be staying there again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Reasonable
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Property owners at the Lanternhouse stereotyped us and were downright rude and creepy. I'm hiking the Appalachian Trail and this is the first motel that has ever made it very clear hikers were not welcome. Right off the bat it was clear the owners thought we, myself and two other hikers, were the types to trash a room and cause problems. They warned us they had cameras watching the rooms and that we shouldn't even try to go into each other's rooms. That's messed up and beyond creepy. I left without staying (no refund but honestly it was worth it to get away from this place; lesson learned) and went to another hotel that was more welcoming. How they have such supposedly good ratings when they're not welcoming and discriminate and stereotype guests on first seeing them is beyond me. Horrible customer service.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We arrived after midnight and were kindly greeted and set up for the night.
- Tim (8/5): Would stay again - Owner was helpful, place was quiet and in a convenient location.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely property. Very clean!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointed - The room smelled musty, the WiFi was TERRIBLE, and checkout time was early at 10 am. The bed was very comfortable and was the only good thing about the place. Definitely will not be staying there again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a lovely stay at the Lantern House Motel. The room was very clean and large. We had a California King size bed that was super comfortable, and we slept so well! It was incredibly quiet. We also took advantage of using the mini fridge to keep our beverages we brought cold. We enjoyed exploring the area - visiting Barrington Brewery and doing the Monument Mountain hike with stunning views at the top. We also walked to lunch at Market Table Kitchen from the property - was delicious. The Main Street in town had cute shops. We ate at GB Eats and SoCo Creamery - also very tasty! We would definitely recommend the Lantern House to others! The owner Hasu is incredibly friendly and hospitable.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not so great! - Very dated! Did not like that the owner was so pushy to get us to upgrade our room for $15. When we declined he then told us he would upgrade it for $10. When we still declined he upgraded us for free but canceled our booking through hotels.com so the booking went solely through the motel. So I lost my points with hotels.com for that night's stay.
- Philip (8/5): - The room was comfortable and clean. It said there was breakfast and a pool, but neither was open
- Verified traveler (6/5): AT hiker - Safe, clean, but old facility.
- Maria (2/5): - False advertising... Tge owner close the water because he told us we was using a lot of water. No Jacuzzi, No pool, no dinning area... Was a desastre. I ended cancel Monday stay and pay more money at the Holiday express...bad experience ever..
- Kevin (10/5): - Very nice facilities. Wanted extra towels and they were delivered quickly. Only disappointment was the salt water pool was not open due to COVID-19. Will visit there again
- Jalcala508 (4/5): - Advertised jacuzzi . Was a jetted tub not even big enough for me to fit in comfortably. The owner is so cheap he told me to twist the light bulb to turn it on. And make sure to unscrew when done.
- Heath (10/5): Great stay - Wonderful stay, man at the front was extremely friendly. Clean no frills room
- Mildred (8/5): - When I arrived at the hotel I was charged $89.00 instead $70.00
the price that was quoted on your site. That was false advertisement. It made question the site as well as the establishment. I know its not a lot but its the principle.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Business Trip - Room was nice and clean. No hair dryer or ironing board, but otherwise a very pleasant stay. Bathroom was clean, and the location was a 5-minute drive to downtown. I'd stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - small and cozy, great for the price. everything was clean. nothing bad stood out
- Paul (10/5): Great stay - The lantern house is a great place to stay. Comforting and feel like its your place.
- Corinne (10/5): - Great little motel. Room was clean and comfortable. The owner called to confirm my room and find out what time we would be checking in. He asked if we wanted to upgrade to a larger more updated King room for $25 as well as what temperature would we like the room set to. The breakfast is lacking. There was coffee and cereal with a couple of prefixed bagels. We opted to eat elsewhere. Nice motel and I would definitely stay again.
- Heidi (8/5): - Cute little motel within walking distance to Theory Wellness, Aegean Sea Restaurant and shopping if necessary.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Owner on property to greet us and available for anything we might need. Beds very comfortable and clean. Quiet rooms. Very close to Ski Butternut. You can tell the owners take pride in there rooms.
- William (10/5): Wonderful. - Love this place. Wish I could have stayed for a week. Well kept, clean, quiet, and cozy. grateful to have found it.
- Harry (4/5): - I’ve been there many times over the past 20 years I’m sorry to say this will be my last time. Bathroom was dirty to the point I did not use
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great stay. Thank you. Comfy bed. Good coffee. Close to Butternut.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owner could not have been nicer. Hasu is a sweetheart.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room was much smaller than expected based on the pictures, I had to upgrade for $15 to even have a comparable room to what was promised in the pictures. Though it was cozy and a nice establishment I felt I was deceived and that overshadowed the stay.
- Barry (8/5): Quiet stay - They upgraded are room for a small fee. Decent room for the price. Bed could have been more comfortable. I would consider staying there again
- Christian (10/5): - Really nice staff and great rooms for the price. Lantern house was perfect for us.
- Ronald (10/5): - Comfortable and very attentive owner
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The room was small, but we were offered an upgrade to a bigger room. We declined because we weren’t staying long, but it was appreciated. A few restaurants and stores are within walking distance. Overall a comfortable, convenient stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great value. Almost next to Theopy Wellness and a great Greek restaurant.
- Mary (10/5): - My room was very clean. It had a fridge and microwave. The owner was very pleasant. I would stay there again.
- Steven (10/5): - Very clean pleasant stay would recommend to family and friends
- Lisa (10/5): - While the place is dated, it has a fun rustic vibe and is very clean and well maintained. A great value for the price.
- Sean (10/5): - Very friendly staff. The place was a pleasant step back in time with all the amenities. The staff even upgraded our room when I forgot to tell them my wife was coming. It’s also located right in the center of Great Barrington. So I can go to Tractor Supply while my wife looks at antiques. I would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - cleaness is the first thing to expect and the last in this property. in all beds (4, two per room in an order of 2 rooms) the sheets were not changed, and in ALL BEDS we found hair and remains of previous guests. one could notice the rooms and bathrooms were barely cleaned.
Breakfast was dissappointing.
- Verified traveler (6/5): OK - Didn't spend much time there. There are several other motel/hotels nearby on the same street, so many choices in that area.
- patricia a (10/5): True Gem of the Berkshires !! - This motel never disappoints - We nave been staying here for the past 10 years whenever we decide to visit the Berkshires/ Specifically Great Barrington ! The proprietors are very hands on and always ready to assist with whatever you may require during your stay !! Great value as well when compared to the rates of other properties in the area !!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - the owner was very kind and made us feel welcome. the rooms were outdated (old-style motel) and were musty and dusty. Included breakfast was bare bones (dry cereal, coffee, bananas and pre-made bagels w cream cheese). Good if you want inexpensive, simple and aren't picky
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great value. Good location, near restaurants and services. Quiet at night.
- Judith C (8/5): - Beds were wonderful. Linens were crisp and clean. Would have liked a tub with a safer bottom. Didn't use, were afraid of falling. Also would have !imed a bigger TV.
- Ztraveler (10/5): - The Lantern House motel was your typical, high-quality motel experience. After checking in, the owner showed us a few different rooms (due to availability and time of arrival, he allowed us to choose our room). We decided on a corner room in the second building which was private and right next to the outdoor pool (though we didn't use it). The room was very nice and on the larger side. King sized bed as promised, flat screen TV with cable, fridge, microwave, tiny sitting area, small closet, and renovated full bathroom. Everything was very clean and inviting when we arrived. Breakfast and daily room cleaning available (though we didn't take advantage of either). Overall, a very pleasant stay at a simple motel located near hiking trails, small towns, and scenic views.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Just. No. - Stayed here as part of a Fall Foliage road trip. We had stayed at a couple nicely renovated roadside motels. This is not one. I have a hard time with strong coverup smells. They open windows when there’s no guests but it’s still strong. Uncomfortable beds, dark, dinghy interior. Had to ask office for a hairdryer! TV so old and pixelated, we couldn’t make out the score of the playoff baseball game. We did get hear the conversations of the people next door though. Too bad. With a lot of paint, new flooring and updates, this could be a good place to stay.
- Kim (10/5): - Clean and comfortable accommodations for a very reasonable price
- Not...Impressed (6/5): - I liked the home-town motel atmosphere. I didn't like the fact that the owner took about 10 minutes to rant how nice his motel is and that I need to appreciate it and continued with how others "disobeyed his rules." He then proceeded to ask me who was with me as he pointed to my car with my co-traveler. This was highly inappropriate to ask a customer who was with them. As cute and clean this motel was, I will not stay here again and recommend others to look elsewhere. P.S. - When I got up at 5:00 to get coffee at D & D, I noticed all the other motel parking lots were FULL - this motel's lot was about half-empty. Hmmmm...
- Donna (10/5): - The motel was older and very charming. I loved the real wood paneling in our room. Everything was immaculate and very comfortable. The owner was very helpful with directions to area attractions.
- Laurie (8/5): - It felt cozy and homey. Room was very clean and comfortable.
- Kathleen (8/5): - We enjoyed our trip very much. This hotel was convenient, clean and comfortable. TV and Internet both worked fine. Hotel itself is a little dated and breakfast was pretty basic but it is very reasonably priced and clean which is what we wanted!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We enjoyed our stay very much. The Motel was clean and the people were very friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I requested a quiet room and the owner called me the day I was arriving and said a very quiet one just opened up. I was amazed at this service- he had read the request I had made when booking the room.
It is very clean and well kept for an "older" motel" as other reviews stated.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great service, comfortable room, quiet location, great area. We'll be staying here again!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Room 12 is very small and in fact has no table and chairs.
It has the same room rate as room 11 which is much larger and has a round table and 2 chairs.
- G (10/5): - Clean, quiet and efficient.... well worth the price!
- Bennie (8/5): - It's a sweet motel. Very clean, plenty of towels, nice linens, etc.. Quiet. Great location.
Couple of tiny things that could be improved upon -- the mattress was super-soft and somewhat lumpy. There was no shampoo. But overall, it was a good and I will stay there again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Cozy room. Clean. Comfortable bed. Close to many restaurants
- CharlesS. (10/5): - Conviently located, easy access to and from the property, and a very friendly atmosphere. The staff were friendly and warm and genuinely glad we stayed with them. I will definitely stay with these folks again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location, very clean !the bed was very comfortable. The property was well maintained and management was pleasant.
- Mel (6/5): - Overnight stop
- MARIE A. (10/5): Reasonably priced and CLEAN... - Due to inclement weather, my husband and I took a chance after reading excellent reviews. The room was very clean, that is number one, no pets or smoking in rooms keeps those oders out of the room. The only downfall was “breakfast”. There was coffee, hot water, and 1 bagel wrapped with cream cheese. The small kitchenette was clean and well kept. We would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent accommodation, & very friendly & helpful staff.
- Steven (10/5): Under the radar - This was a last minute decision to visit Great Barrington, chose this motel due to great reviews. Owned by Hasu and his family- hands on owners. Old fashioned/ outdated furniture but super clean and in great shape. I just love knotty pine paneled walls. Very cozy. Rooms have everything. Close to town and half the price of a chain hotel. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!!!
- Todd (10/5): Such a pleasant find - My son and I were so happy with our stay. The room was spacious and immaculate. The inn keeper was so pleasant. We have definitely found our new place to stay when we come to Massachusetts.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Kind property owner. Location. Cleanliness
Convenience to area attractions
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This is an older typical roadside hotel. But it was very clean and I have no complaints. I thought the other hotels in the area were a bit pricey so I stayed at the Latern and found it a great value. Great location for visiting the area. We look for clean and this place passed inspection.
- Jim (10/5): - Clean, Good mattresses (comfortable), clean, easy to use bathroom and shower. Management that wants to make sure your stay goes well.
We will stay here again.
- Lauren (8/5): - Good price, clean, friendly proprietor.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was very clean. Cleaner than many of the higher end chain hotels I have stayed at in the past. The bed was very comfortable. The decor is extremely outdated but that isn’t a big deal to me. The proprietor was friendly and I slept well. I had a jetted tub in my room which was also very clean and very relaxing. I would definitely go back!
- Owen (8/5): best deal in G Barrington - gave me a nice quiet room with new furniture and bed.
