No teníamos toallas y tardamos horas en que nos las dieran. Pedimos una almohada más cómoda y nos ignoraron. La habitación muy grande y bonita, pero el colchón muy incómodo, tan viejo que se deshacía la tela y la cama se hundía por la mitad. Recomiendo comprobar la cama antes de aceptar la invitación.

The rooftop was nice with some nice views and the location is really good. The breakfast was a bit limited, but so was it everywhere else we stayed in Tanzania. Overall a really nice option for a few days in Stonetown.

Christian (8/5): Nice historic hotel with a fabulous view - 1) The view at the last floor (panorama restaurant) with its view over Stone Town and the sea. It is called Horizon Hotel for a reason. 2) The kindness of the staff. All very kind. 3) The colonial-time furniture in the room and the public area like the staircase. Lots of wood from back in the days. I hope the hotel will never change it, it truly is a charm. Go there if you like history, skip if you seek modern comfort. There sadly is no elevator... If you are 4th floor, you walk 4 floors multiple times a day. By the way, the restaurant is on 6th floor (also for breakfast) so overwheight people, be careful. Another negative point was the leaking and unstable bath tub for taking a shower... Hold tight, don't fall. The choice for breakfast was: "You get what we have, not what the menu says"... A bit on the low end.

The staff’s English is very limited, which can make communication around basic things challenging. Nice rooftop.

Alwyn (1/5): Good Location and Breakfast with a View but still a budget Hotel. - Staff are very friendly and always willing to help. Breakfast was good although service is slow (but this is everywhere in Tanzania, Pole Pole as they say). Roof top view where breakfast is served is very nice. After all the room change arounds we had a pleasant stay. Good location for Stone Town, just need some updating and maintenance then this could be a GREAT Hotel. Seems like there is new management, so hopefully they will solve these issues for future guests. We've booked the Deluxe Junior Suite which states 40 m² room size then we got put into the Deluxe Double Room which is 30 m². I've also asked for a quiet room but ended up right next to some youngsters who were very rowdy and loud. One of the rooms didn't have hot water so when I complained about all of this and asked about the room size we got moved to the actual Deluxe Junior Suites, which was much better but still had one room without hot water and barely functioning shower. They send a guy to fix the pipes but didn't make a difference. Hotel also has a bad smell in some of the rooms. General Zanzibar plumbing problems I think. Would also be best to see the actual room you are booking instead of all the rooms the hotel has available.
Lea (6/5): - The property is in a very old building so I expected the mismatched tiles in the bathroom where repairs were made, uneven floors, mismatched furniture and such. But one of our rooms had a broken A/C both nights and the other room the A/C didn't work the second night, one bed was missing a top sheet, and it just seemed like there were lots of small changes that could be made to transform this into a top-notch hotel. It was an interesting location and the views from the rooftop dining for breakfast was lovely and we appreciated the staff. I'm glad we stayed here because of the location but the stay would have been much better with air conditioning that worked so we could sleep more at night. Note that the hotel is on a street that doesn't allow cars so you will park and walk some distance with your luggage. We arrived at night and I'm thankful our taxi driver helped us find the hotel on foot as we were tired and carrying all the luggage for ourselves and our four children and google maps wasn't helping navigate.

Nikki (5/5): Good for one night - Convenient location. Organized an early morning pick up for the airport for us. Property is a bit dated and could do with some improvements. We arrived during check in time and our room was not ready. Found a knitting/sewing needle on the floor. Shower pressure was great, but the holder for the outlet was broken so when you turned it on the shower head lifted up and sprayed all over the bathroom including the toilet. No bathroom floor towel provided. Hot water though which was great compared to our other stays.

Saul (6/5): Very good location, lovely old style mansion, would not stay there again. - The breakfast was both ample and of reasonable quality served in an exceptional environment in the open rooftop garden. The staff were willing and able and were typical of the usual high standard of hospitality that Zanzibaris are justly famous for. Here are the flaws and a fatal flaw, small thing: nice thing an assortment of coffee and teas but no kettle, could not get hot water delivered. The shower is an aberration, comprises of a flexible hose attached to a portable shower head that was so old and abused it leaked sprays of hot or cold water all over the bathroom. The shower control is decrepit and because of this the inlet and outlet of the hot water tank had been turned off. The hoy water had not been turned on when we arrived and the switch for this was not obvious.

Janet (7/5): Good - We stayed here during Sauti za Busara music festival. The location is great. Very easy to walk everywhere. The bathroom did not function well. The shower head was not attached properly and it was not easy to wash. The cleaning staff removed most of the towels from our room the first day and did not replace them. We were left with just one bath towel. No hand towel. No bathmat. Despite my asking on three different occasions, these were not replaced. I was assured each time that the housekeeper would do it straight away..... but that never happened.

Lucky (10/5): perfect location, fantastic staff, great value - The location was perfect wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else. The staff were amazing, truly made you feel at home, so welcoming and helpful and really went above and beyond. Would highly recommend and if there and have any issues or request at all trust that the staff will rectify and deliver. Also, try the spa next door I had foot massage and aromatherapy message and included the feet and head Tanzanian massage which was an extra treat and a uprise to me and great prices. as why I went back for another treatment. Thank you to all you all. I liked everything. However, think breakfast cards should be given per person not per room and to check phone lines from room. But again, housekeeping like all the staff were so polite and helpful and very welcoming and serviced our rooms every day and came quickly with extras when we asked for them. Its a shame it’s such a journey from London otherwise I would be back sooner. I don’t often give reviews but this was truly deserved. They went above and beyond and the location was perfect. For the price couldn’t fault it. Our room was 102 and had a nice balcony too and view over the courtyard.

Mtasha (1/5): No professionalism and strange reviews - - I already posted about our experience when staying at Horizon. Now, this hotel really started bugging me, as some of the reviews here seem to be fake. Check the four reviews by “Andrew”, all written in the same broken English, all 10-star reviews. There were others written in the same style by another name, but some seem to have been deleted in the meantime. One of the biggest mishaps at Horizon, that I didn’t even mention in my first review because I didn’t want to be too harsh, was the payment: I paid 380$ for 2 nights, the receptionist typed on her machine and said I should put my creditcard against it, without showing me the amount on the display. If I hadn’t had a quick glance on the display, a nightmare might have ensued, since she wrongly entered 38.000$ (!!!) instead of 380$. She simply wasn't able to correctly conduct the transaction. Mistakes happen, yes, but better not of this magnitude. I do assume no malintent, but complete lack of experience and professionalism. When I highlighted that the comma is not set right and this amount seems to be obviously wrong, she shrugged it off, then the manager took over and calculated everything anew. Therefore: - If you still want to book, read all reviews thoroughly and with a critical eye; - When at the hotel, check everything twice, particularly financial transactions and insist to be shown the correct amount; - And lastly, be warned: their behavior gets me mad until today, 4 weeks later after staying there, which is definitely not what I was hoping for when booking. There are plenty better hotels in Stone Town.
Abedinigo (4/5): Disappointing - Its Nearness to the beach, and the kitchen staff were very good and friendly. The food was good and well prepared. In particular there were two ladies who were very good, Eunice and Queen. They deserve special mention. What we didn't like is that the outlook of the hotel is not clean enough. The surroundings are not clean enough.

Njoroge (10/5): FANTASTIC - We had a wonderful experience at the horizon palace. Fresh juice and cold towels on arrival. The rooms were nice, big and airy. The facility is Very central and at the heart of stone town Zanzibar. The staff were amazing, willing to help, readily available and ever smiling The roof top restaurant is the icing on the cake. The view From up there is fantastic. Not forgetting the food, nice sushi rolls and cocktails good service too. Will definitely come back.

Desmond (3/5): Disappointed with the value and service, the same room was available on line €300 cheaper on the day - The rooms were clean and comfortable, but the bathrooms are in need of an update. The location in the centre of Stonetown is good. While the staff were friendly they were very poorly trained, with very slow service, outdated bathroom. Very loud noise like a generator running both nights we stayed (between 22-23.30pm). The hotel tried to charge an extra 5% for paying by credit card. We had to put in an order for breakfast the night before and give a time, even then it took an hour to get most of what we ordered (but not everything), very haphazard.
Kee (2/5): Not new, not 4-star and not even a hotel - a run down motel if anything - Staff seem well-meaning but that is certainly not enough to operate a hotel. If you want to be in the heart of Stone Town, this hotel/motel is at the heart of it. What an embarrassment of a hotel. A sad joke. A crime that it is classified this as a 4 star. I would struggle to give it even 3 stars and a motel rather than a hotel is a better term. Note it was formerly the Tausi Palace Hotel- the Horizon chain seems to have taken it over and while they (and Booking.com) are advertising it as a “New opening 1st December 2022”, don’t be fooled as I was - this is not a new hotel. When I booked, there weren’t even any reviews, neither here nor on TripAdvisor - now there a few here and they tell the story. Terrible facilities. Horizon Palace is the kind of place you recommend to a colleague whose guts you hate. A place you fear a rat is going to jump out from the numerous holes around the room. A depressing, disgusting litany of errors. I was glad to have an early morning flight so I could get out as soon as possible. You will regret booking here.
Mtasha (4/5): Certainly no 4 star hotel, but big potential - The hotel itself is beautiful, an old building in the classic zanzibari style. The rooms are nice, AC is working, Wifi as well, the rooftop bar has an amazing view over Stone Town. In a 4 star hotel that costs around 190$ per night, I expect some things to work or at least to be taken care of after asking for it. I slept in other hotels in Tanzania for 20$ per night and didn't experience the following issues that we unfortunately experienced at Horizon: - We asked 3 times to receive bathing soap, I had to stand 20min at the reception to finally receive it - We also had to ask several times (!) for towels as we only had one (!) towel for two people - The phone in the room was not working, I had to walk to the reception in case of an issue - Both nights were extremely loud due to other guests. After asking staff why they did nothing about it, they said 'well, they also paid for their room, what can we do?', which I find extremely dissatisfying. Other guests also paid and would probably prefer to have a somewhat calm night. Following management's logic, each guest could blast music all night and others would just have to endure the noise, because everyone paid for their room - Somehow, you'd need to pay 10$ if you want something from the restaurant delivered to your room. Mind you, a soda costs 3$ or 7.000TZS. So a simple soda delivered to your room could cost you 13$ (we were just one staircase down from the bar) - In the same vein, the breakfast system is not thought through. There is no buffet, so they ask you to fill a form each day, ticking the breakfast options you'd like, that you then hand in and get that exact breakfast the next morning. The first day we filled 2 forms (?), and didn't receive one the next day until we asked for it - Holes in the Mosquito net --> All in all, staff seem very lovely and willing to help, but overwhelmed with simple tasks (receiving soap and towels for two people should't take the whole day). Again, my criticism is to be seen against Horizon's claim to be a 4 star hotel.
