Guest Reviews
- SUSIE NETSCHER (5/5): Not up to expectations - The bedroom and bathroom were excellent fantastic very good but the problem
Of no connection to internet for the afternoon and evening was abominable. It was like being in a war zone. I have never been to a hotel even 3 star or B&B without a connection . It put a damper on my visit and on my family when they joined me for a birthday dinner . The dinner was very disappointing after all the rave reviews. A very short menu expensive and not up to a a five star even 4 star standard. Sparse dishes of food although my halibut was good it was not enough my brother and niece had steak which was very disappointing smothered in sauce with fat chips no other veggies . Ice cream was the safest for desert and without a bottle of vino the account came to £180. More than Chelsea prices . The staff were lovely very kind helpful that was the only saving grace. Disappointing will not recommend or have no inclination to go back . Everything except the staff and bedroom /bathroom

- melony (8/5): Nice little pub, overnight stay. - The gentleman on arrival and check out was lovely. Greeted with a smile and shown to our room. Room was clean with a hospitality tray, lovely beer garden. Our evening meal was lovely. Our room didn't have a window only a velux, if I'd have known this I wouldn't have booked. Also, I found the bed and pillows hard. Both these things are personal preference.
- Erwin (8/5): -
- Diane (7/5): Warm and comfortable, thank you - It was central and near to where l wanted to explore
- Nicola (9/5): Lovely village , great overnight stay - Nice big comfortable room. Food and staff were lovely. Great area and very convenient for Bristol airport. Pub and restaurant were cold. Soap dispenser for basin in bedroom not working
- Joe (10/5): - The food was excellent The room was quite warm and couldn’t open the velux windows
- John (7/5): Good - Gorgeous town, lovely pub. Expected a bit more for a hotel rated 5 starts. communal access to the rooms needs improvement as it feels like your going through the cleaner's cupboard. Room could do with a refresh. Also expected to have more than one chair available in a family room.

- Mary (10/5): Lovely - Clean
- gary (8/5): -
- Janusz (10/5): - Lokalizacja

- Mathoulin (10/5): - Couldn't have food as something wasn't working Not having food there
- Luca (8/5): - Staff was lovely. Rooms were quite comfy even though a bit hard to get to with luggage due to steep stairs. There was a bit of a stale smell in the bathroom, and no toilet brush provided. Also, the shower leaked. Beds were comfortable, and the teas provided were very nice. Overall, I would come back for a short stay.
- Sandy (8/5): Ideal for overnight stay in readiness for our flight in the early hours next morning. - Location to Bristol Airport, our bed was super comfy as was the bed linen - we were in room 4.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Our toilet would not flush but we only realised when we got to bed, we were tired and exhausted and had to be up at 2:30am so unable to let staff know.
- Rosemary (8/5): -
- Nicola (10/5): Lovely - We had a lovely one night stay here. Comfy, clean, lovely decor and food. Excellent customer service. Visited the church and a local shopkeeper told us about the nearby stone circles that we visited.
- Sharron (10/5): - Amazing place to stay
Staff were extremely helpful
Rooms were amazing
Location was brilliant for a cheeky night away or if flying from Bristol airport
The town is absolutely amazing and we had the best of welcomes and I honestly can't fault anything about this little find No negative comments and this place .. everything is spot on and amazing
- Max (10/5): -
- Alistair (9/5): Amazing breakfast and cosy boutique style bedroom - Excellent breakfast, lovely room, friendly staff Nothing

- zoe (10/5): A great choice - Location. Staff. Delicious dinner and breakfast. Good range of draught beers and also wines. Room was lovely and exceptionally comfortable. Absolutely nothing
- Jon (8/5): A great venue if somewhat noisy if overlooking the high street - Very friendly, helpful and welcoming staff. Excellent food and range of coffees. Comfortable public areas and beautiful countryside surroundings. Unfortunately being located in a dog friendly room at the front of the pub overlooking the central traffic junction in the village wasn't conducive to enjoying a good night's sleep. Added to that was the fact that at 6am a large lorry pulled up outside to deliver cooking oil to various premises and for over an hour the noise of crashing and banging was unbearable. Also the folding shower door didn't completely fold shut as the runners were defective and we didn't want to risk damaging the door by forcing it.
To be fair to the management they have no control over the local traffic or businesses' delivery schedules and on request we were relocated to a large comfortable room towards the rear of the pub where we enjoyed a wonderful second night's sleep and another beautifully prepared breakfast.
- Almond (9/5): - Clean room and bathroom warm room Great food & breakfast
- Carol (10/5): Relaxing - A lovely relaxing few day's away with husband, definitely recommend this place for time out of busy life, good food nice relaxing bar area food fantastic..See you again soon Bear & Swan Nothing

- Stuart (6/5): - Very noisy bedroom. Lots of chat and noise from kitchen under bedroom woke us up at 7am
- Stuart (9/5): Lovely place for a short stay - Very comfortable, clean and homely. Lovely village located. Close to local attractions, Bristol,Bath,Wells and Cotswolds. Can be difficult to find parking nearby at peak times
- Jonathan (9/5): Stayed overnight as had an early flight from Bristol. Food and drink were lovely and was the room - Good location for Bristol airport No parking
- Anna (8/5): Comfortable stay next to Bristol Airport - The room was very spaceous, with many facilities and toiletries. It was clean and the beds were comfortable.
The staff was very nice and the restaurant downstairs was also very good. We could hear some of the noise coming from the bar terrace, but it didn't go until very late and it did not disturb our sleep.
- Eric (7/5): Prima - Uitstraling Ontbijt is pas vanag 08.30 beschikbaar,,
Wij moeten om 09.00 op de luchthaven zijn en kunnen dus niet ongbijten terwijl je ervoor betaald hebt. Staat niet vermeld op booking.com.
Dat is een teleurstelling.
- Natalie (10/5): Great place to stay and lovely staff - Great location, room and lovely staff
- sean (10/5): Nice place to stay with some nice walks around the area. - Very freindly staff and excellent food. Free public car park around the back of the pub. Lots of walks in the area if you want to get into the country side. Could get a little noisy with traffic at times.
- smith (8/5): Would stay again - Very nice room and comfortable bed! Lovely tea and coffee making facilities I didn't like the bathroom doors which were like cupboard doors. Very noisy to open and shut and a gap in between so you could see in. Very expensive food for our evening meal
- Stacey (8/5): -
- Christopher (8/5): Great, but I really wanted a pint at 855pm on a Sunday - Comfy bed
Great shower
Nice decor
Good comms A few maintenance issues.
Not being able to get a pint of beer when I arrived at 855pm on a Sunday. Could have brought my own cans, but that always feels weird when you go to a pub to stay.
- Joanne (10/5): -
- Sam (10/5): Perfect, comfortable, one night airport stay. - Great location with ample free parking. Perfect for an overnight stay for the airport. The small side lane to the car park is not lit very well at all. I actually fell over on my way to the car in the morning.
- Helen (9/5): Lovely room - Lovely room with king size bed
- Nathan (10/5): -
- Masa (10/5): -
- Wayne (7/5): Pleasant village location. - Located in a quaint village with a village shop across the road and free parking nearby. Warm and comfortable. Nice room but minimal coffee and tea sachets. No skimmed milk available when requested. We only stayed for one night and the rate was very reasonable. I wouldn't say it was five star though.
- Amanda (8/5): Very agreeable hotel somewhat let down by the food. - Charming welcome from the delightful owner, our room was fabulous, though rather far from the entrance ! We had one meal there which was mine, unremarkable, his , really disappointing .
- Deborah (10/5): A welcoming pub, friendly staff and great food - Easy to find, comfortable bed with quality bed linen. Friendly staff and a really delicious menu Traffic noise and street lights, as I live in a very rural setting without noise or light pollution so I’m sensitive to it
- Stowell (8/5): -
- Hanley (7/5): - We had a good sized room. The ensuite had a powerful shower. A plentiful assortment of teas and coffee in the room together a bottle of water, replenished daily.
Breakfast was included in our rate and was very good although it was rather slow to arrive.
Staff were helpful and friendly. Unfortunately the room heating was not working on our first day but it was quickly remedied when brought to the staff's attention.
It was also rather chilly one morning in the dining room for breakfast as no heating had been put on. Other mornings a lovely log burner had already been lit.
We were surprised that our room was not serviced during our 3 day stay. Apparently the rooms are just replenished but this was not made clear when booking or in the instructions in the room. Towels were replaced as required.
The internal staircase to the guest rooms was steep so the accommodation may not be suitable for people with limited mobility. Also, if the pub is closed, access to the rooms is only by an external staircase and an unlit path to the car park at the rear.
Parking can be tricky as it is a free public car park for the village and can get very busy.
Overall we were happy with the accommodation and would stay again at the Bear & Swan when we next visit the area.
- Malcolm (9/5): Met my requirements perfectly! - Great accommodation, Frienldy helpful staff, location performance my visit to Chew Valley Lake Prior advice for car parking, I didn't know I had to park on a public car park.
- Paul (8/5): - Lovely comfortable beds
- Jamie (8/5): -
- Katherine (7/5): Very nice - It is characterful in a pretty village that is very close to Bristol airport. It has a great bar and restaurant and was a perfect place to stay overnight for an early flight. There is some noise from the bar, traffic on the road and you can hear noise from the room next door.
- Williams (10/5): -
- James (10/5): -
- Denise Suzanne (8/5): - Breakfast inconsistent 2 day's bread different preferred thin bread and 2 marmalade not thick bread 1 marmalade. Full English very tasty. Some carpet's a bit thread bare stairs need extra handles. Staff brilliant
- Laura (10/5): -
- Suzanne (10/5): Great hotel with excellent staff and facilities - Lovely comfortable room with a lovely en suite and great shower. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great food Access to the rooms was a little odd- either outside up some rickety stairs or through a semi secret doorway!
- Pete (7/5): - The rooms were lovely and compy and clean and plenty of tea / coffee. Rooms were very noisy from road traffic also from people talking in bar.
- Tracy (9/5): -
- Leon (9/5): A little gem, tucked away - Friendly staff (Kerry in particular) and clean, well presented room. Food was excellent, although a little pricey. Location was rural, but the road outside was quite busy at times.
- Paul (9/5): - Location, comfortable room and great shower Nothing
- Ashleigh (10/5): -
- Sacha (7/5): Great! - Good location and nice room. It was very cold when we walked in and took a while to warm up!
- Elizabeth (7/5): Pretty place to stay - Lovely location and comfortable bed Room was v cold and staff were very busy and had little time to check me in or show me the room
- Williams (10/5): - Beautiful room and friendly staff
- Adam (8/5): Very comfortable stay with great food, friendly staff and handy parking. - Beautiful pub with amazing food! Car parking right behind for free. The bedrooms was small but nicely decorated. The shower ran out of hot water after one shower, but we did use it at night rather than in the morning so maybe that was the problem.
- Tim (9/5): comfy stay , very friendly staff and lovely building - comfy bed and great sized room and bathroom breakfast was good but no cereals etc on offer
- samantha (7/5): Amazing food and staff service but too noisy - The size of the room and the location, the food was also amazing as were the staff The Superior room is in the loft, whilst the room is lovely and big it's situated directly above the kitchen. The noise is really loud from the kitchen and restaurant staff. There was also a lot of banging so I was unable to get to sleep until after 12pm.
- MARK (10/5): -
- Jenny (9/5): Well worth the money - A well appointed room with everything you need. Nothing
- Abigail (7/5): -
- maider (9/5): -
- IAN (7/5): I would stay here again if they improve pillows - Nice large room. Friendly staff. Evening meal was excellent. WiFi good. Large bathroom. Very clean room. Nice filtered water was a great item. Pillows need updating, they're lifeless and flat, didn't sleep very well due to them. I tried to open the window and they're not very safe, comes slamming down.
- Shannon (7/5): Unfortunate stay but not their fault! - Perfect location, amazingly quiet even though on the main road. Clean and staff wonderful. Could not eat in the restaurant because kitchen closed for maintenance. Did not like having to enter the pub in the evening via an unlit alley and up lit external stairs to get to my bedroom because the premises were shut at 9pm.
- Jason (8/5): -
- Mark (10/5): -
- Daryl (9/5): Lovely pub with decent rooms. The room was clean and had everything we needed. Lovely village too. - Clean and comfortable, good size

- Velma (9/5): Value for money - Comfy large room. No fruit available at breakfast
- James (10/5): -
- Natasha (10/5): A gorgeous short stay in a hidden gem - The pub is a beautiful building in a stunning village. It has a warm, friendly vibe. Staff were just amazing. Happy to answer any questions and extremely friendly. The bedroom was extremely spacious and so very comfortable. The bathroom is so inviting you just have to relax in a hot bath (and I never use baths at hotels!) considering it’s a busy pub on a Saturday evening, there was barely any noise transferring to our room above. Really can’t recommend this place and the wonderful staff enough.
