Guest Reviews
- Dishman (9/5): Superb - Everything was closed by, the restaurants, beach, canoeing, supermarket,
Beautiful view, especially the sound of the waves throughout the night,,,
- Max (8/5): Very good -
- Jane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dishman (9/5): Superb - Beautiful view, with the sound of waves bashing the shore, hammock, beanbags, to read a book, only 2km from the city,,,
- Marc (8/5): By the sea - The views from the second floor to the sea. They can provide you a good scooter. The sink was broken and it was a puddle of water.
It was hotter inside the room than outside. The fans weren't enough.
- Daniel (7/5): Good - Nice and clean private room with ocean view, direct access to a really nice beach bathroom was smelly, staff was not very friendly, hostel was not social at all when I was there, bedsheets had stains and didn’t smell very fresh, only a very thin blanket in a room with ac.
- Lisanne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Haydn (7/5): Good - Fantastic location, right next to a beautiful beach. The dorm AC was great. Decent price for the dorm bed. I enjoyed chilling on the hammocks and bean bags on the terrace. Food and drinks were expensive and you had to pay for water refills which I've not seen in Sri Lankan hostels before. There were several 50+ guests which changed the vibe. The bar/restaurant area wasn't very clean and smelt of rubbish (the dorms were clean but had no soap).
- Talisa (7/5): Good - The location and overall hostel are very nice. The owner and personal are really kind. Laundry service works perfect and the food is good. It is directly at the beach and you can hear the waves while sleeping. Unfortunately, we were not lucky with our room. We had a broken shower and it was also not clean. After we complained, we got relocated to a much nicer room (thanks for that!). At the end of our stay we learned that a part of the rooms are actually not in the oweners responsibilty, hence there is a good chance for improvement.
- Isabella (9/5): I'd for sure stay there again - It's right in front of the beach. You can hear the ocean all night long <3 + it's close to a grocery store, a lot of nice restaurants (they also have a good one), cafes, and massage places. It was super quiet cause the season was almost over.
The staff was super sweet and helpful! A shout-out to Sampath that drove me to Mirissa and made of the journey a tour, telling me a lot of interest stuff about the region. There was no ac, which is common for Sri Lanka, apparently. But to be honest, it wasn't necessary cause the weather wasn't that bad (might be different during peak season).
No individual bed lights.
- Charlotte (5/5): Passable - It was nice to hear the waves. Room was so unbelievably hot. There was only one fan, which did nothing and even with the windows open, no sea breeze came through. Yes, this is a budget accommodation in a hot country, but plenty of other ones we stayed in had much better temperature control. Too hot to sleep.
- Irene (10/5): Exceptional - LOVE IT! This was my favorite place in Sri Lanka! The beach is amazing, and the hostel is right in front of it—literally, you just cross the street! The ocean view from the upper rooms is beautiful! We traveled as a group of four friends, and Sachi always made sure we had everything we needed. The entire staff was super friendly, and the food was good too! I definitely want to come back!
- Niall (8/5): Good view - The room was huge and nice, the hostel was right on the beach and so we would wake up to seeing the sea which was amazing. The bike rental, laundry and food and drink was a lot more expensive than other places in the same area - we opted to rent a bike from a place a minute walk away and it was substantially cheaper.
- Anwesha (7/5): Good -
- Manuel (6/5): It's good for the price - It's okay in terms of value for money.
The manager and his staff are super nice and approachable. I might have fallen in love a little with the lady working the bar...
The food is super-extra-delicious
The beach is literally right outside the front door and very clean The 6-bed dorms offer little in terms of privacy or safe luggage storage (even for the price).
They came up one night and pushed a seventh bed into our dorm, which meant I slept directly next to a random italian lady. That was unexpected and not part of the deal.
- Jenny (6/5): Great location. Dorm a bit cosy and hot. - Across the road from beach, great location. Not much space in the dorm. I booked a 6 bed dorm but was in a 8 bed.
There's nowhere to hang clothes and towel when in the shower. Also not much space to get changed in the shower area. Lots of space on balcony to sort bags out though.
The room was very hot and not enough fans to cover 8 people on bunk beds. The door and windows were kept open for the breeze.
On check out I genuinely thought I had paid via booking.com but I was told I had to pay by cash or card (fee to use card) which is fine but I felt like the guy was making me feel like I was trying to pull a fast one- I really wasn't.
I would stay here again if it was a private room but not in a dorm.
- Mateusz (10/5): Paradise stay on Tangalle - Fantastic stay in Tangalle! The sound of the waves rocks you to sleep and welcomes you in the morning with a beautiful sunrise. Awesome, friendly and helpful staff who go above and beyond to make your stay as pleasant as possible.
As the staff say: "you come for one day, and stay for a week", that's exactly what happened to me, I came for 2 nights, and stayed for a week!
Do yourself a favour, when you check in, ask for the top floor room, you're welcome😉 the top floor didn't have internet but they were working on installing it so I'm sure it's all up and running by now. I didn't mind so much because I had a hotspot, but I guess it could be a problem for some.
- George (7/5): Pleasant hostel great location - Great spot right on the beach near all the best places to eat and drink. They overbooked so put us next door in another hotel ran by family. The room was nice and everything was fine but it was not what we expected.
- Judit (9/5): Great stay - With a view of the beach, a really comfortable option in Tangalle. The AC dorm is comfortable (I heard the fan dorm was too hot), the bed is great, there are no privacy curtains but every bed has mosquito net. The bathroom is spacious and okay. The restaurant offers a variety of options - though a little expensive, such as all the places along the shore. There are beach beds available, in the shade too. The bean bags and the hammocks on the terrace are a nice touch. I loved waking up to the sound of the ocean. The Thursday live music nights might be a plus for some people. I was just not aware. The band was great, but after a super long day all I wanted is to sleep, and it was not possible until after 1AM. The “stage” is right below the dorms. The other nights were fine.
- Mareike (9/5): Perfect location, but some of the rooms could get a little fresh up - Perfect Location Right in front of the beach. The rooms all have sea view, loved it. Mosquito net and Fan included.
The staff was extraordinary. Super friendly and helped ha with everything, including organizing a tuktuk to Udawalawa. Rented a Scooter and did our Laundry with them, too. The Room and the furniture was quite old and used. The shower was in the Room with a broken door. The Fan did its job but was far away so it still got really hot during the Night.
- Katarina (10/5): A beachfront hostel with clean rooms, helpful hosts and great nearby restaurants - The hostel is located literally on the beach, and you can hear the waves from the room. There are many restaurants on the street in front of the hostel. Each bed had a mosquito net, which was much needed. There is a fan in every room. The bathroom was clean and nice. There were no lockers in the room, but the host was kind and gave us the room key since we were the only guests checking in that day, so it felt like a private room.
- Natalia (10/5): I like this place a lot! Great location, clean rooms, beautiful view from the terrace, lovely staff, ideal place to stay - I like this place a lot! Great location, clean rooms, beautiful view from the terrace, lovely staff, ideal place to stay in Tangalle!
- Izudeen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ronja (9/5): Superb -
- Clémence (9/5): Great place in Tangalle !! - Very nice hostel, close to the beach. The rooms are nice, clean and well organised for backpackers (big enough, one big locker with a key per person, mosquito net). Nice common area to relax. Close to good restaurants and bus can be caught nearby. Could benefit of a WhatsApp group or else to be more sociable.
- Lena (10/5): Exceptional - I had a great stay here. Really comfy beds, great location and you wake up from the sound of the ocean.
The rooms were clean and the staff was kind.
- Dominic (10/5): Waves lull you to sleep - Falling asleep hearing waves crashing on the beach cannot be beaten. A really wonderful, chill hostel! The bathroom doors are really awkward to use and I kept catching my fingers in them.
- Pierrick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ammaarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ammaarah (8/5): Great stay - The host sachin was really cool! Hostel was located right by the beach !!! N/a
- Muhandiram (10/5): Exceptional - Sleeping with the sound of ocean waves was so relaxing. The staff was very friendly, and I felt at home. That place was beautiful.
- Tim (8/5): Great location especially for beach lover - The beach is just in front of the hostel & you can watch the sunrise from the Tangalle beach The number of fans inside the room are not enough as I was sweating while I am sleeping
- Léa (8/5): Great accommodation in a good location. Highly recommend. - Great location, the hostel has plenty of space to chill. Sun bed available in the shades on the beach.
Big room with king size bed.
Helpful and friendly staff. The mattress was really uncomfortable.
Be aware that the picture showing the hammock and stuff are not on the beach anymore but on the terrace.
- Nicolas (10/5): Exceptional - The best location from a hostel from the entire country! Ask for the 2nd floor!
- Kathrin (9/5): We really liked it here! - We stayed in one of the private rooms, they are very spacious and you have a nice outside area & a private bathroom which is very clean. We really liked it! Just take care, you can book rooms with or without A/C. Otherwise you need to pay onsite for the A/C.
- Alina (8/5): Very good - Directly at a beautiful beach. Good vibe. Space to sit at the balcony in front of the rooms The food is really expensive. No wifi in the Dorms and no blankets
- Mateusz (10/5): A week in Tangalle Paradise - By far the best hostel I've ever stayed in in Sri Lanka!
The rooms are well-equipped with everything you need. I stayed 2 nights in the dorm which was brand new and I felt like I was underpaying for such an experience. Sunrise waking you up, beaming through the doors, the sound of nothing but waves in the night, truly amazing experience.
After the dorm I expended for a further 5 nights in the private room which was a pure luxury, huge bed, huge bathroom, a small patio to share or to enjoy alone, incredible place honestly. If you are working there like I did, be sure to use your hotspot though, as the Wi-Fi doesn't reach the top floor YET (Sachi and his fantastic team are working on it at the moment). The restaurant downstairs however will provide spotless Wi-Fi, which you can enjoy all day and night, without necessarily buying food/drinks. As mentioned, the Wifi doesn't reach the top floor, but that is a small price to pay as the views from the top floor are unreal!
- Alexandra (8/5): Super cool hostel - gorgeous hostel right on the beach ! Dorms are clean and designed well and the bathrooms have 2 separate showers and toilet cubicles which is really useful for getting ready. The hostel has nice hang out areas with hammocks, beds and a cafe downstairs. Also has free sun beds for guests on the beach which is ideal! We only stayed one night but the staff were nice during that time, unfortunately there was no activity planned the night we were there (Friday) but most nights had a planned activity. There was no AC but the rooms had fans. Unfortunately they didn’t cool the room much at all and were really noisy so it was quite difficult to sleep due to the heat.
- Alice (9/5): Superb - The location right in front of the beach is so nice
- Helene (7/5): Good - The room was great, but unfortunately, the air conditioning didn’t work very well. Fantastic location, not far from the beach.
Breakfast was included and very delicious, but you need to allow plenty of time.
- Tunde (9/5): Superb -
- Noreen (5/5): Ok -
- Jennie (8/5): Very good -
- Johanna (10/5): Exceptional - I had a private room which was absolutely worth the money! All the rooms have an oceanview, the host is super friendly and helpful, and the hostel is in generally spaceous and clean.
You even get a sunbed on the beach just in front of the hostel! Food is very good as well :) /
- Joe (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hannes (5/5): Passable -
- Sharp (10/5): Exceptional -
- Patrick (9/5): Superb -
- Gerald (10/5): Exceptional -
- The (10/5): Calm and clean place. Very relaxing. The staff was helpful and friendly. We really enjoyed our stay - We loved our stay here! We booked private room, that was our first experience in hostel and we loved it.The hostel is calm, clean, and very relaxing. The staff is so helpful and made our experience even better. Front of beach, so you can see the best sunrise ☀️ Highly recommend!
- Nida (8/5): Very good - The property holds the prime location in the area right infront of the beach. Very easy to access the nearby swimming spots. The dorms are comfortable and the staff is friendly. The outdoor space with hammocks and seating facing the sea is the best part of the property. Charging 120rs each time for a water bottle refill is a little odd.
- Miguel (5/5): Passable - La ubicación es buena y está aceptable The food is bad and the prices are excessive compared to other places, they charge you 10% for food when paying for “services” and 5% for payment by credit card, I ordered the laundry service and my clothes smelled of stagnant water and obviously they charged twice what they charge in other places in the same area. When you pay for the room, the change is done with an unreal Euro price! I think it’s not fair.
I will never stay in that place again.
- Pierre (9/5): Superb - Great guesthouse, with view on the sea. Definitely worth the money!
- Elliot (10/5): Exceptional - This was my favorite hostel I stayed in, in Sri Lanka. The dorm rooms were comfortable and the whole vibe of the place felt a bit lux for a hostel! It’s right in the beach and there’s plenty of space to hangout with others or alone. I think it was a bit of a shock to come from inland to the coast with regard to food and beverage prices. I clocked up a pretty hefty bill (relative to Sri Lankan prices) on food by the end of my 5 nights. However everything was yum and the coffee was also very good. Just be aware that you may pay more in the area.
- Clemence (7/5): Good - Very nice location in Tangalle next to all the great areas. Super friendly staff Rooms pretty basic
- Zoe (8/5): Awesome location - The location is amazing right near the beach with many restaurants and bars lining the water. A small supermarket is located a few minutes walk away which was very convenient. The staff are lovely and happy to help. Nice quiet location. Hot water system for the shower works well. Cleaned daily which is good. Good communal area. Note there are no hammocks like in the photos online. Restaurant down stairs is a little pricey but that’s normal for the area. Top bunks could use another fan as it can get quite warm at night.
- Ananya (10/5): Exceptional - They need better pictures to truly do justice to the property, it's extremely beautiful with the balcony overlooking the ocean and falling asleep to the sounds of the waves is magical. It's definitely the best hostel I've stayed at in Sri Lanka. The hostel is also really clean, everyone I met there wanted to stay there longer and most of us did end up extending our stay. Sachi, who runs the hostel, is a great host and the vibes are extremely warm and befitting to Tangalle's laid back beach vibe. They clean the washrooms and the rooms every day and the staff is really sweet.
- Eve (8/5): Very good - Lovely stay, staff are friendly and the upstairs area is really chill with beanbags. Very clean beds and toilets.
- Urte (10/5): Great experience - Lovely staff, felt like at home. And it’s literally on the beach, cannot be better!
- Sebastian (8/5): Good place, good people - Very welcoming and helpful Staff. Good location. Fair price for the room, straight on the beach. Compare to other locations, the prices for food and drinks are a bit too expensive (my personal feeling). Wifi on the upper floor is nearly not existing. Down on the base it's okay but not fast enough if you are planning to work online.
- Elyse (8/5): Good location, good staff. - Close proximity to the beach Slightly expensive prices for food and drink at hostel.
- Aris (10/5): Great value for money and a great location - Super nice place right on the beach. you can sleep listening to the sound of the ocean, priceless. very friendly service and very tasty food. Rooms are comfortable and the mosquito net deeply appreciated.
- Eric (9/5): Superb - The room was large and confortable! The hostel is in the front of the beach and 15mn from the center. Personal is very friendly 😊 Breakfast was really good but a bit expensive!
- Jordan (8/5): Very good - Beachfront
Close to town
Helpful staff
- Carey (9/5): Superb - Loved the location and staff! Rooms were a bit warm, but this is to be expected by the beach!
- Sabatino (9/5): Great hostel and good vibes right on Tangalle beach - The hotel is right on the beach, free sunbeds and good vibes
- Halasz (7/5): Good -
- Deha (8/5): Nice… - When I arrived at the hostel, there wasn’t a warm welcome, but I really liked that it was right in front of the beach. The charges for a bottle of water, laundry, and the restaurant prices were quite expensive. The bed, bathroom, and toilet were satisfactory. The sound of the waves was very calming. It was nice to participate in activities and chat with the other guests. The hostel was also very close to the bus stop and nearby attractions, which was very convenient.
- Warrington (6/5): Was ok for one night! - It was in a cool location and had a lovely balcony which overlooks the sea! The room was the first place we have stayed that had a warm shower which was amazing :) I booked what I thought was an AC room then when i went to ask where the remote for the AC was they explained the room was cheaper because it wasn’t working which should have been noted online (it wasn’t)
- Samuel (7/5): Good -
- Lucy (8/5): Very good - It is well situated, at the beach front, and not far from the bus station. The beds are comfortable and the balcony to chill was perfect. The owner is very nice and friendly!
- James (5/5): Passable -
- Alice (10/5): Exceptional - I spent one week in this hostel and it was one of my best choices since I m travelling in Sri Lanka. The place is great, food as well and right in front of the ocean. The owner was really kind and helpfull, ready to help you whatever you need. I will come again for sure if I m coming back to Sri Lanka.
- Marie (9/5): Superb - I liked the view of the beach and that you can relax on the terrace. The owner is very nice and helpful. Thank you! Everything was good
- Nicole (10/5): Perfect hostel in tangalle - Perfect location in tangalle right in front of the ocean and close to many restaurants and beachbars. The owner was super nice and very helpful :) The hot water wasn‘t working but they fixed it right away
- Andrea (10/5): Perfect place to stay - Amazing hostel! The view is incredible, right on the beach so you can enjoy the sunset and sunrise. Was amazing sleeping to the sound of waves. The dorm is large and clean. Mosquito nets on every bed. Not far walk to the bus station and right near some very good restaurants! Nothing
- Eirini (7/5): Good -
- Zaninka (7/5): A short stay but not worth the money for the private room - The location was super near the busstand. The staff were very kind aswell to show me the different accommodations that they have. I booked a private room but there was no toiletries or water included which was very unpleasant to find.
The matras in the private room with no AC was very thin and not good to sleep on. I still have back pain.
- Isabelle (10/5): lovely stay next to the beach - Everything was very nice! They are very helpful and caring!
- Nicole (10/5): Exceptional - My stay at coppenrath hostel was lovely. The room was cozy. The chill area was really relaxed with the bean bags and hammocks. It‘s straight at the beach. The Host is amazing and helpful.
I highly recommand it to everyone.
- Jessica (3/5): Poor stay - we left early - The location Multiple things: check in & check out were very poor we weren’t given a warm welcome or any clear instructions if we could go up to the room, the staff generally weren’t very friendly & approachable during our stay. We used the laundry service which was more expensive than other places & our clothes can back with marks on them. The bathroom wasn’t good - no soap, broken tap & just an open drain in the wall to drain the shower so it stunk!! One very thin pillow each on the bed, we asked for more pillows & were given a very mouldy one. Mini fridge in the room also stunk & liked like it needed a good clean. The bedroom lock was really difficult to open & close. The food wasn’t great, overpriced for what it is which is disappointing for a hostel which generally welcomes budget travellers. Overall the place looks tired & in need of some work.
- Priyanshu (8/5): Very good - Its just the girl living with me leaving her clothes in the shower and her undies on the bathroom floor although its not hostels fault but it would be better clear instructions have been given at the chime of checkin
- Meaghan (8/5): Very good - The staff were super friendly…an excellent massage lady. My room was clean with a great view. The food and drink prices were higher than the other places in the area.
- Igor (10/5): Exceptional -
- Franziska (9/5): Superb -
- Monika (10/5): Exceptional - This place is simply perfect! Right on the beach.. super clean.. nice chill zone on balcony… good food and amazing people!
definitely will come back
- Cataspratley (9/5): Superb - Nice and quiet place, in front of a beach, perfect to relax.
It's close to the city when there are supermarkets and places to eat.
All the staff was great. Rooms were clean. The food is expensive, but if you ok to walk, you can find cheap options in the city.
- Javiera (9/5): Chill and perfect location right in front of the beach - The views from the balcony and rooftop are beautiful. Perfect location. The staff is super nice. Nice common area at the balcony. It’s clean. Has hot water shower. The noise till late night from the every Thursday party they have at the downstairs restaurant that doesn’t let you sleep.
- Rob (10/5): very doable :) - the room was amazing value tbh. nothing
- Léonard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lucy (9/5): Superb - Man who ran it was so friendly, the food at the hostel was good, you can watch the sunrise from your room and hear the waves as you fall asleep. Really nice for a relaxing few days
- Zul (6/5): average stay - sea facing view the party too loud until 3 morning..i can not sleep.me and other guest check out the next day...
please use brain and respect other traveller
- Camille (10/5): Exceptional - I only stayed one night but I had a very comfortable stay here. The room (dorm) and bathroom were super clean and the staff very nice. The beach is literally just in front of the place. Lots of restaurant/bar options around.
I will definitely come back here again!
- Giacomo (8/5): home feeling - very friendly owner, comfortable bed, AC rooms
- Isabel (10/5): Exceptional - Great place, awesome team!
- Tina (10/5): Exceptional - The location is simple amazing, directly by the beach. The staff is so lovely, makes you feel comfortable and is always open for New ideas and a chat. The food is in comparison to Restaurants around a bit more pricey but totally worth it! (All ingredients fresh and homemade). The rooms getting cleaned everyday. I didnt Mission anything and would definetly come back anytime. Thank you for having me and for an unforgettable time at your hostel! Nothing
- Delia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Camille (10/5): Exceptional - location, confort, food and drinks, the staff
- Marcelo (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (10/5): As good as a hostel can get - The hostel is right at the beachfront, with direct view from the rooms to the sea. We had a double room, which had everything we needed and was considerably big. The owner of the hostel, Sachi, is an amazing and always-friendly guy who helps whereever he can and even beyond. You can even get breakfast, lunch and drinks directly at the hostel, which has all the vibes you‘d expect from such a place. Overall, an amazing experience which fits well to the general hospitality of Sri Lanka. The waves can be a bit noisy during the night - if you don‘t like the voice of the sea ;) but earplugs do the trick very well and are generally recommended for hostel stays, in my opinion.
