Guest Reviews
- Ryan (10/5): Amazing experience - Great experience, friendly staff, delicious food, beautiful setting.
- Diane (10/5): - Beautiful property on the lake in the quiet, charming town of Casenovia, NY.
- Phillip (10/5): Peaceful serenity - Staying at the Brewster Inn makes me feel more like I’m staying at a rich relatives house lol
The setting, is absolutely beautiful along the lake. The main house gives great character. I feel like there is one thousand stories to be told, when I look inside and the carriage house where I stayed is beautifully done with very spacious and quiet rooms.
- Rebecca (8/5): Beautiful space, disappointing breakfast - Only reason for not getting full stars - the breakfast was extremely subpar even for continental. I've been to mid tier motels/hotels where the included continental is serve yourself hot food, waffle maker, etc. The options at this inn were minimal and not of great quality. It was also set up in a small area that was difficult to manage when other guests came in. I expected much better, especially when they have a full restaurant kitchen in house. This definitely needs to be improved, really not acceptable for this special of a location and the price to stay there. Almost makes me rate 3 stars.
Otherwise, the place is beautiful. Our room was in the carriage home, second floor with cathedral ceilings and original exposed beams. It was huge, clean, and felt luxurious. Dinner at the in house restaurant was delicious, our server was great, and we had a perfect spot on the patio to watch the sunset over the lake. Would be appreciated if guests of the inn received even a 5% discount for meals considering most of the people that ate there were not actually staying at the inn.
- Melanie (10/5): - Beautiful property right on Cazenovia lake. Excellent food and drink. Continental breakfast was underwhelming
- IRENE (10/5): - Nice restored giant house, and has rooms in the carriage house. It sits right right on the beautiful Cazenovia Lake. Relaxing location!!
- Anthony (10/5): - Quite lovely
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The photo in the listing showed a beautiful large bathtub, but there was none! We had paid extra for this
- felicity (6/5): - Understaffed. Breakfast not well-supplied. Missing tea bags, missing milk, no assistance, no place to sit, person vacuuming during breakfast.
- Ryan (10/5): - Beautiful, clean rooms! Super quiet, would definitely stay again!
- Boguslawa (8/5): - We enjoyed Brester Inn's preserved style from early 1900's. Hotel's surrounding area was gorgeous including the lake side as well as beautiful parklike walkways. Rooms were large and very clean. Our room was cleaned very day. Morning breakfast included many different selections. Hotel's staff was very friendly and helpful. Restaurant and bar was very good. The only one thing we would ask for would be softer bed pillows. The pillows we had were very hard and too thick for comfortable sleep.
We would recomment Brewster Inn to our friends.
- Erica (10/5): - The property is beautiful and full of charm. My husband and I had a lovely, restful stay at the Brewster Inn!
- Robert (10/5): - This place is incredible.
- Alaina (10/5): - Very friendly staff and we loved that they brushed off our car.
- Intaek (10/5): - I am from South Korea. It was fantastic and very special experience in foreign person’s view very positively too.
- HELEN (10/5): - Bathroom sink faucet to close to, bowl to get your hands under Everything else was great
- Kirsten (10/5): - I love old homes that feel cozy and yet spacious. The Inn was also decorated for Christmas so that added to the warmth and cozy feel as well. Loved that every time we walked in the front door the wonderful smells from the kitchen were filling the air. Our room didn't overlook the lake, but the trees in front were still nice. The room had the requested roll away all made up for us which was great. My husband wanted for a larger toilet and I would have liked a sitting chair in our room. Since it was cold the outdoor seating by the lake wasn't available. I felt a little wanting of a place besides the restaurant to sit and read and look at the lake. Minor things really, We had a wonderful stay.
- Jennifer (10/5): - The Inn was beautiful and the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The restaurant was outstanding. We would definitely staff there again.
- John (10/5): - Lots of historic character
- Herbert (10/5): - Unbelievable, you will not be disappointed. $$.
- Stephen (10/5): - Everything
- Tracy (10/5): - Well placed beautiful old Inn. Was very pleased with Carriage House room upstairs. Nice to get a drink at the outside bar and sit in the rocking chairs as the sun goes down.
- Margie (10/5): - Fantastic
- jose (10/5): - An spectacular boutique hotel with an amazing restaurant right on the lake. Everyone is super attentive, our server at the restaurant was Amy, she really made our experience here outstanding.
- William (10/5): - Always a great place with nice staff. Incredible food. Only one item needed attention and that was the hallway and stair carpets needed a professional shampoo (vaccummed fine, but really needed attention beyond staff).
Great place and a pleasure to stay.
- Lee-Ann T (4/5): - The location is beautiful, the restaurant outstanding, people friendly, but room 11 is in poor condition. There was a crack in the ceiling plaster falling in the middle of the room, the AC stopped working in the middle of the night, and there is one mirror between the in the room and bathroom Another mirror in the bedroom would be advantages.
- Debra (10/5): - It’s a beautiful property on the lake. Walkable to town and we kayaked off the dock at the Inn and had drinks on their dock overlooking the water. We ate dinner at the restaurant and it was excellent. It’s an old home converted to an Inn so the rooms are not handicapped accessible so know you’ll need to climb stairs. Breakfast was continental with selection of muffins, cereals, cheeses.
- Andrea (10/5): - Large room in Carriage House -booked it for my 80 year old father so he didn’t have to climb the stairs.
- Aaron (10/5): - What a lovely, well appointed room!
- Danielle (10/5): Great family getaway - Great short break with family! Super helpful team at the hotel, large room with beautiful details, and very nice dinner at their restaurant! My only comment is that the shower needs improvement and the breakfast is very minimal.
- John (10/5): - A wonderful place!
- Alex (2/5): - They say they do not allow use of my medication on the property. Having medicine on me that can leave a faint smell is no reason to accuse me of smoking in the building. They charged using my medication, in my car. Coming in smelling like it. But I need it for my epilepsy. They were careless and against ADA laws. Non-empathetic
- Amy (10/5): - Winter wonderland!!!! The restaurant was delicacy and the ambience in the winter was gorgeous!!! Breweries and distilleries all around and downtown is so cute.
- Gordon (8/5): - We arrived on Christmas Eve and the hotel was technically shut but they had messaged us and made sure we got access to our room. The room was large and very comfortable. We were only there on night but would definitely book again and will consider doing so in the summer
- HELEN (10/5): - carriage house was so quaint and just special
- John (8/5): Caz B and B - Nice spot. There are 2 places to stay on property. 1 is detached from the main house. The other is in the main house. Nice rustic charm. Very comfortable. Large bathroom and bedroom area. Would recommend giving it a shot if in Cazenova.
- James (10/5): - It was a quaint place with so much charm and character.
- John (6/5): - Nice place, a little dirty but ok, the bar was excellent, and the location is perfect, need to figure out how to improve the drains for the shower and maybe a little hotter water, but regardless of this I would come back
- John (10/5): - BEAUTIFUL PLACE!!
- Richard (4/5): - We found the inn rather dirty. The rugs were worn and dirty. The wall paper was pealing off the bathroom wall and the room was not up to our expectations in light of the price which reflect a first rate hotel. Although the room was large it remained me more of a run of the mill interstate motel. I would never stay there again.
- zuzana (8/5): - Outdoor is beautiful. Lots of seating spots by the lake. Inside needs some upgrating but not too bad. Dinner was very expensive and food was average but not the worst. Breakfast was like regular motel breakfast. Quick things to grab. Parking was easy. Walkable distance from the town.
- Alan (8/5): Brewster Inn - Late summer visit - Nice place - really the only place to stay in Cazenovia. Great location on the lake.
However, they miss the finer things. When we checked in for a 3 night stay we were told we need to change rooms after the first night. Not a big deal, but they did not really extend themselves in terms of the inconvenience.
New room was nice, but the pop corn ceiling was cracked and chipped pretty bad from what was probably a leak that was repaired. Looked pretty gross.
The Inn has a great restaurant. We eat there one night and had a really good meal. Down side is that the inn has limited parking to support non inn guests. When we returned one night, the only spot available was occupied by the 'parking attendant'. We politely asked him if he could move across the way so that we could park, he declined. We needed to wait around 15 minutes for someone to come out of the restaurant to get there spot.
Also, please note that the breakfast is continental. No hot food. Dry food - cereal, energy bars, yogurt, fruit.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Poor restaurant service - The inn was lovely. Our dinner was just okay. There was a hair in the burrata of the Grilled prosciutto wrapped Asparagus. My lamb chops were cold bc the order came out w/o a cloche or plate cover OUTSIDE. Our server Erin was too busy chatting w/ customers and had to be alerted the order was ready to be served. I told it the lamb chops were cold and she took them back. Rule #1: lamb (or meat) should not be reheated as it kills the desired temp & cook requested by customer. Upon return, she says she would check back. Took her 5 min to come back!!! Poor customer service.
Outdoor patio dining was very nice.
- Bruce (10/5): - Beautiful and welcoming
- Stephanie (10/5): Beautiful secret in Upstate NY - Just beautiful location. We actually stayed in the guest house. Our room had 20plus feet ceilings. The outdoor restaurant and bar is great. The pork chop special was to die for. We definitely want to come back.
- Patrick (8/5): - Quiet.
- Suzanne (10/5): Should have the option of giving 6 stars *** - I travel often and must say that this was of my favorite stays anywhere in the country. This Inn on the lake has a beautiful back story. You will have to call to find out more. Beautiful rooms, very warm hosts, high end continental breakfast all added to our trip. There is indoor seating in the restaurant and outside seating overlooking the lake.
We were originally booked into a room on the 3rd floor which was a challenge. They saw our struggle and gave us our choice of rooms on the 1st floor. Our room in the carriage house had a jacuzzi big enough for two which was very welcomed after a 10-hour drive.
- William (10/5): - If you’re staying In Cazenovia this is your best option.
- Patrick (10/5): - Such a great stay ended up adding an extra night and lucked out with the master suite!!!
- Keith (10/5): - My wife and I had an unexpected weekend stay and it was beautiful and beyond our expectations. Picturesque setting and amazing food at restaurant on site. Would recommend to anyone. Nice town to walk around with other dinning options as well A
- robert (10/5): - Beautiful Inn and service!
- Richelle (8/5): - Beautiful property with tons of character and charm. Dining at the Brewster was delicious but incredibly expensive. We treated it as a once in a lifetime experience, so we indulged. Our room was gorgeous, but the bathroom smelled of urine and the sink never ran hot water.
- kirsten (10/5): - Perfect night away everything from the dinner to the room it was all lovely you cant beat the location
- Suzan (10/5): A true gem with amazing food! - The hotel is quaint and beautifully situated on the lake. The rooms are spacious and unique. The showers are amazing with three shower heads. The bed comfortable. However, above all, the restaurant is amazing. The food is superb.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Be careful about which room you are given - We were over-charged. We were charged $189 for a room #3 that was listed on their site for $130. So be careful to document which room you are purchasing.
- MaryAnn (8/5): - Beautiful location.
- Berle (6/5): - We are seniors and did not realize there was no elevator. This made getting to our room very difficult. Thank goodness one of the female employees saw that we were having trouble getting up the staircase with our luggage and helped us. The dinning room was very nice and the staff were very friendly.
- Daniel (10/5): - Service was outstanding. Had our son staying with us unexpectedly. And they accommodated us the same day and moved us to a new room to help with the accommodations. Excellent stay.
- Marjorie (8/5): - The staffs were nice. Room 4 was very spacious and clean. The only thing I didn't like was the television turns on by itself. It happened 4 times and mostly around 3 am. The remote was always on the table btw. Well, this building was there since 1890 so most likely we had a company. kinda spooky.
- Laura (10/5): - Too short and sweet would be the only way I can describe our stay at The Brewster Inn. When you walk in you are immediately greeted by the very friendly staff, who were willing to help with carrying our luggage up 3 flights of stairs to checking our room multiple times for a lost item that we found after returning home. The views from our 3rd story room offered a bird's eye view of the lake and surrounding landscape. A cozy love seat by our window would be a nice addition for couples on a romantic getaway. The bed was comfortable, the room was of adequate size, but the bathroom was quite small. There was only enough room for one person a change and prepare for an evening out. A large dressing mirror in the room would have been nice, however the large hallway mirrors as you left your room complimented us completely as we headed downstairs for a delicious meal in their well-appointed and tastefully decorated dining room. The Brewster Inn lent itself to a promise of marriage that was 42 years in the making. As he got down on bended knee to ask that I become his wife someday, nothing else mattered. The small bathroom and lack of mirrors were a small price to pay for a moment I have been waiting for since I was a young girl in love with this man. Jennifer, our waitress presented us with a delicious dessert upon hearing our good news. Thank you, Brewster Inn, for making our getaway/promise an unforgettable time in our lives.
Future Mrs. to her Mr.
- Michael (8/5): - Great couple of days away location! Beautiful town and area on the lake, as well the Brewster inn. Short ride to Syracuse.
- Natalie (10/5): Excellent - Bathroom was a little cramped and did not care for the sliding barn door which really didn't close, but other than that everything was great. Staff was friendly and very accommodating, restaurant was excellent. Definitely recommend.
- Walter (10/5): Great location, very classic lakeside Inn - Awesome location, loved being right on the lake. Very convenient to town and also to Syracuse. Really like a classic stay in a historic lakeside inn.
- Carol (10/5): - Amazing inn with beautiful dining room overlooking Cazenovia Lake! Food was delicious, service was prompt and friendly, room was clean, quiet, spacious and pillows were exceptional!
- ernest (10/5): - Lovely old home now a lovely inn. Desk clerk very nice. Could use new carpet on small staircase to second floor. Otherwise just great.
- Eugene (8/5): - Beautiful property, well-maintained. We stayed in the carriage house (where room was large but with strange layout) but cannot comment on rooms on the main house. Decor was fine, bed extremely comfortable. Only disappointment was the restaurant was closed (so had to go off-site for dinner) and the continental breakfast of wrapped muffins, yogurt cups, cold cereal was lackluster.
- CARLEEN (10/5): An overnight get away - We stayed in the beautiful carriage house. Very clean, very comfortable, nice breakfast selections. A beautiful restaurant, and a boardwalk to site and watch the sunset over the lake.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Tough to sleep - Room was nice except for bright street lamp outside windows and inadequate shades to block out light.
- stefan (8/5): - Beautiful location. Great outdoor space.
- Sandra (6/5): - The room was very nice. There were not really any extra amenities. The breakfast was practically non-existent, just a few things put out on a table. The staff was not very friendly. I would not recommend it.
- Michael (10/5): - Good kitchen/bar
- Michelle (10/5): - Stayed in a room with a lake view, highly recommend this, it had a sun porch off of it! So relaxing and pretty!
- Dawn (4/5): - Stayed in room 14 , wasn’t impress with the tiny bathroom.
- Khaled (10/5): - I love it very very nice and clean
- Richard (10/5): First stay at Brewster inn. - Beautiful inn with excellent service. The room was beautiful and we were given an upgrade to a newly renovated room. We will stay there again.
- Hiromi (4/5): - The lake view was gorgeous and loved walking around the quaint village. However, there was not much of welcoming gesture nor friendliness from the staff. The room was not totally cleand; I found hair and empty shampoo bottle in the bathtub. Toilet seat was wobbly as well. Disappointment.
- Anne (10/5): - Went there for a wedding. The room be as spacious and lovely. The wedding on site was perfect in every respect. Food outstanding. Can’t say enough for The Brewster!
- Peter (10/5): - Outstanding dining room service and food. We drove 2 hours to get to the Brewster inn for dinner, and it was worth it
Because of it's age the Brewster inn has no elevators. Stairways to the second floor are not fully banistered. Seniors or disabled travelers may have difficulty.
- Dmitriy (10/5): - Amazing old mansion with 5he lake view
- Chris (10/5): - Lovely little place on the lake. Staff was very friendly. Food was delicious. Our room had a fireplace and a lake view.
- James (10/5): Will stay again! - Beautiful old mansion right on the lake, also has a wonderful restaurant with nice dining on the lake. Able to walk to town center. Elegance!
- Janet (6/5): - The Brewster Inn, while impressive, needs a major cleaning and renovation.
- Denise (8/5): - This is a beautiful old hotel. The property sets on a lake and is able to hold large outside gatherings.
The room was clean and quite.
- Susan (10/5): Couples getaway - Wonderful from beginning to end. We will be back
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The main building...VERY unique. We stayed in the carriage house....our room was the coolest room I have ever been in. The back patio overlooking the lake was spectacular
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Breakfast was in a box, which of course was blamed on "covid", but I suspect that this is, and in the future will become, an excuse for doing less while charging the same.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The building is old but well maintained. Grounds are beautiful with an awesome lake view.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The property has a wonderful location on Cazenovia Lake. The building is well cared-for. However — when we checked into the Inn on a Sunday afternoon, the place was a madhouse, cars parked everywhere, crowds milling about (apparently there were a number of events). Dinner was very busy, so service was only fair. The Inn did not serve the advertised continental breakfast “because of Covid,” which didn’t seem to limit the robust dinner business. Instead, we received a coupon for $5 of food from the gift shop in the am (yogurt and packaged muffins). Monday night dinner was almost as crowded as Sunday. There was no private sitting room or library for overnight guests, so we were limited to our room. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxed, peaceful place, I’m sorry to say that this is not the place.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Location on the lake and upscale property
- Verified traveler (10/5): - .
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A fabulous , historical (built in 1890) well maintained Inn and restaurant on the shore of Cazenovia Lake. We had an exceptional room, spacious with updated bedding, a wonderful view an amazing eclectic mix of furnishings including a number of historic Stickley pieces.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazon Restaurant and very good rooms
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Simple accommodations but lovely place and great location. Also I was surprised by the quality of the food at the restaurant. Great great food. I want to go back there and eat more :)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It had a very classical feel to it. Also the staff was great.
- Bill (8/5): - Beautiful building and Christmas decorations were gorgeous..food in restaurant was delicious..but a bit pricey
- James (10/5): - Dom the service to the room and views very thing was perfect
- Alejandro (8/5): Amazing place - Your services and staff were amazing and extremely friendly. Your Inn was welcoming and the room were very nicely spaced and beautiful view. I look forward to returning for rest and relaxation.
- Christine (10/5): - Beautiful Hotel, excellent, friendly staff
- William (10/5): beautiful all around - We had a very enjoyable stay the views were amazing. The Bar and wait staff were very friendly and accommodaing
- Elizabeth (10/5): Just What the Doctor Ordered!! - Every staff member at the Brewster Inn was welcoming, helpful, gracious__overall lovely. What a nurturing and peaceful venue. I’m so looking forward to coming back this fall to experience our outrageously gorgeous upstate New York autumn.
