• Janet (2/5): BEWARE BED BUGS - the location was good. stairs nightmare- 73 steep stairs to our room. be prepared!! smallest room ever. The worst part was that we were BITTEN ALIVE by BED BUGS! honestly covered in bites. please don’t stay here.

• Hakim (2/5): - Don’t stay in this hotel, avoid at all cost. The pictures are inaccurate. The pics posted by Expedia are either the hotel 20 years ago or a sister renovated hotel. The area is currently renovated with a lot of roads work, juggling the homeless people was the beginning. When we open the front door, the foul humid smells were poignant. On the first floor, where our room was located, the dust and the shredded wall paper was visible. When we enter the room, the door was already opened as well as the window to certainly cover the vile smells, the room was filthy, stain in the toilets, more than dated shelf, amenities that didn’t work. Two lonely hangers to put your clothes, and nowhere to recharge your phones than the floors. The bed sheets smelled. And all that some something close to 200 GBP a night. This is really greed. Hotel was full and not able to give another room, and they also offer the refund of our remaining 2 nights on the Saturday morning if we vacated the room by 12 with nowhere to go. It really felt like you don’t like it so just get out, that’s the way we deal with the issue. The maintenance guy to try to fix the issue and house keeping on the Saturday and the bed sheets when from strange to bleach smells. House keeping didn’t do a good job mapping the floor as the cigarette wrapper were still under the beds. Expedia customer service helped quickly and responsively, but nothing came out of it. Expedia must vet their properties for accuracy. We were missleading
• Sally (6/5): - Room and bedding was clean, although doors and woodwork needed repainting, and bathroom tiles were not done well. The additional door bolt didn't work. Lamp didn't work. TV was useless. Stairs were very steep and there were so many, and you have to go up 2 sets to check in, back down, and then up (for me) another 4 sets to get to room. The bed was rock hard. The bedding and towels were very clean and changed daily. Apart from one wall of tiling, and a weird tap design, the bathroom was decent and modern. Decent location. 20 minute walk to train station. Close to shops and city centre.
• Tracy (4/5): - This hotel had no elevator and the stairs were very narrow and many. It was very challenging with luggage. The reception clerk told us that we had to make sure that the bathroom door was closed when we took a shower or the fire alarm will go off. My husband used the bathroom and took a shower and the interior light (motion activated) turned off 3 times while he was in there. At least they had a coffee machine but the room was very basic and cheap looking more like a youth hostel than a hotel. The front doors to the rooms are spring loaded and our neighbour left the room maybe once an hour, letting the door slam shut which was very noisy and disturbing. The hotel was close to the areas that we wanted to visit which was a plus, but the room looked nothing like the one advertised. Not at all impressed with this hotel. Very disappointed.

• Stacey (6/5): Avoid room with no view - We stayed in a room which was described as with no view. It looked bright on the pics so I thought it had a window that was maybe looking at a wall or a bin yard. But it actually had no window. So I felt very vulnerable in case of fire as I only had 1 exit. The lights were very dim also so it felt even worse. We had one big and 1 small towel for 2 of us. The floor was lifting from where it had been left repeatedly wet and there was a putrid smell. It was less so in the bathroom so it wasn’t from the drains, we couldn’t figure out what it was. The stairs are very steep but I think it’s like that all over Amsterdam. I’m not saying don’t book this place but I’d recommend a different room. The lady on the reception a few doors down was nice.
• Claudia (2/5): - It is basically a crack den. Only nice thing is the staff and location. Rooms are unclean, blood stained sheets, mould on bathroom floor. It waa pretty dire, felt really unsafe.

• Chris (4/5): - The experience at this hotel was something I'd expect from a youth hostel, not a "boutique" hotel charging over $100 a night. We stayed 5 nights in two of the four attic rooms. My room was the one pictured in the listing, but my companion's room was much smaller, barely large enough to fit his "queen" bed (which was actually two twin mattresses together). His room had a fan, but no garbage can, and my room had a tiny garbage in the bathroom but no fan. The windows in my room did not shut and every morning I woke up covered in bug bites. The shower was incredibly awkward with low pressure and no curtain, and the entire bathroom smelled like a sewer all the time. Lastly, the listing does not mention that these rooms are up five flights of very steep, narrow stairs, so if you have limited mobility you should avoid this hotel. The staff were friendly and tried to be helpful - when I told them that there was no mug for my hot water pot, they gave me a red Solo cup (it was a moot point anyway, since there was no tea or coffee offered), and the next day they left some paper cups with sugar packets. They did change the sheets and offer fresh towels every day, which was nice. And the location is very centrally located. Overall, I would only recommend this hotel to students or young people looking for a place to crash after a night out, and even then only if there are not more affordable options available. And if you're the kind of person who doesn't skip leg day.

• Matthew (2/5): - I have it one star because I made it through the experience without getting robed, and to the best of my knowledge there were no bedbugs. And those are the highlights. Seriously though, it was filthy, ridiculously hot in the room, and the tiny safe in the room was not fastened to anything. Anyone could have broken in to the room very easily and simply carried the safe away under their arm. The window was open and when I tried to close it filth showered down from on top of it. And it turns out it doesn’t lock anyway. I seriously considered abandoning the money I spent and looking for somewhere else…… anywhere else.
• Neil (4/5): Worse Hotel Ive Ever Stayed In - Worse hotel I've ever stayed in, no wardrobe/cupboard in the room so be prepared to live out your bag/suitcase, no fridge, TV couldn't get a signal and paid almost 100 quid a day for the privilege. Amsterdam generally has the wost value for money hotels along with London, but this place was shocking!

The next morning I woke up, I was covered in bites, my partner counted 78 bites, no exaggeration, of course I thought it was moskito bites, bought some antihistamine and cream and carried on with the holiday. returning home to the u.k the bites still looked angry and not normal, went to a pharmacist first who said book an urgent doctors appointment, doctor said bed bug bites. THIS HOTEL IS INFESTED WITH NESTS OF BED BUGS, THE DOCTOR SAID HE HAD NEVER SEEN SOMEONE COVERED THIS BADL

• Laurie (2/5): - Worst hotel I’ve stayed in… I never leave bad reviews but this one deserves one. There was no air in the bedroom so the window had to stay open. We were bit by mosquitoes so much, it kept us up at night. There is blood on the walls from previous people killing mosquitoes. It was so hot in the room… but the bed only had 1 heavy cover, so we both sweat through the 1 cover. No bedsheets… The shower steam apparently causes the fire alarm to go off so we had to shower with the door closed… normally there wouldn’t be any issues here except that the light is a sensor, so it would turn off automatically within seconds. To add to this… the entire street is under construction so we were not able to sleep in past 7am. Definitely do not recommend.

• omarvR8734IY (2/5): Do not stay here - I stayed here with my fiance during my trip to Amsterdam, and we immediately left to find other accommodations. The room felt overall very unclean, the sheets and towels had various stains on them. The actual hotel feels very janky and I was a bit embarrassed to bring my finace there once I saw the interior. The customer service was not responsive or helpful in any way and would not honor a refund or any sort of accommodation. Believe the other negative reviews, and book a different hotel!
• jo (10/5): Great place - We stayed in a double room and it was all we needed the shower was great and the reception ladies were amazing thank you ladies. Nice view from the balcony. And close to Dam square.

Unfortunately, the quality of the rooms did not meet expectations. While the pricing is affordable, the accommodations reflect this—rooms were quite dated and dim, and the actual appearance did not match the photos shown online. The hotel is conveniently located near major attractions, which is a definite plus. However, the surrounding area felt unsafe at times, particularly in the evenings. Overall, the hospitality was excellent, but the condition of the rooms and the location may be considerations for future guests.

• L1011MJclareb (2/5): Worst "hotel" I've ever seen - Do not stay here. It is filthy and tiny. The pictures are not a representation of anything I have seen in this "hotel". It is a hostel, not a hotel, and they are scamming people by showing rooms from another hotel. We paid almost 1000€ for our stay and we were treated very poorly by staff. No manager to speak to.
• marina gabriella (2/5): If you can avoid booking this hotel. It's terrible - It is an old Amsterdam building and it is fine but there is no elevator and the reception is in another building nearby. Carrying the suitcase up to the fourth floor was traumatic. The stairs are very narrow and there is no one to help. I am 66 years old and I travel alone. The room was very small, impossible to close the window was blocked. The bed was rather hard and narrow, there is absolutely no room to move. Overall the room and the small bathroom were clean apart from the smell of mold that is throughout the building. I strongly advise against those who need a minimum comfort. You will not find any here. I stopped for only 1 night, more difficult to resist. Also the price was in line with other much more comfortable hotels. I had a terrible time

When I realised about the steep Steps, as I did not realise this when booking, I contacted the hotel Straight away. This was the next day. I appealed to them to refund us our money as I had booked 3 months ahead. They would Not budge my husband is waiting for a Knee reconstruction surgery and would not be able to handle the steep Steps. They took the money out of our acct within the week. Two weeks before going I appealed again and asked if we could have a lower floor as my husbands knee was worse. Again the answer was no. They suck At customer service as they could have easily rebooked this room.We ended up Forfeiting the money as we felt it was just too dangerous to negotiate the steps. We stayed somewhere else. Yes, I know it was my booking mistake but where is the compassion?
• Kazi (2/5): Not for solo travelers - This hotel is off the streets through a very narrow set of steep and long staircases. Overall look is very dark and sketchy. I’m not completely sure if this is normal in the area, but definitely wouldn’t recommend to solo travelers. There was a chewed gum stuck on the bed. I had to leave after seeing that. They never called me back or tried to contact me in any way.
• Clare (2/5): - I didn’t stay although I had prebooked and didn’t get any refund. The photographs bore no resemblance to the actual room There did not seem to be any escape route. The balcony of my room was connected to the room adjoining, with no way of securing unless I slept with the doors firmly shut and would therefore have been very hot as there was no other form of ventilation. The staircase was very steep, long, and not very clean The staff however were very personable and nice I would not recommend Expedia in this situation as they have not presented the condition of the room

The stairs were so steep and dangerous and then they expected us to go two more floors ups the stairs with the luggage where your feet does not feet on the step. We never got to see the rooms.

However, the staff was very friendly and the location is very central.

By partially I mean the bed was made and the garage was changed other than that everything was dirty and the safe was locked. I asked them to open the safe and it took 2 days which I never ended up using. By the end of our 4 day stay my girlfriend woke up with bed bugs bites all over her legs it was disgusting and completely unacceptable, would never stay again or recommend. We were in a rush on the day we were leaving so I never brought it up to the front desk however I should’ve and I should’ve asked for some sort of refund as this is completely unacceptable and I knew right when I walked into the room it looked dirty..

Here is why… - It is not cheap, compare to what it is - Very small room and bathroom. - Some of the sheets had stains. - Beds were sunk down. - The bathroom light doesn’t turn off, so it is on all the time. - The bedroom had an interesting smell - The wall are super thin. The person next to us had at least 3-4 hour call in the middle of night and you can hear everything. Luckily he checked out on the next day.

• Tyler (10/5): - Location is perfect for just walking around and lots of locations to eat near, we stayed in the attic so the 4 flights of the steepest steps ever every night was a lot but not too bad, definitely wouldn’t book if you have knee, leg or hip issues. Rooms were clean and maintained everyday, would stay here again.
• Bruce (4/5): Would not return - Accommodation was very unlike what was shown online. Staff were helpful when asked for things like towels or new TV remote but over all facilities were poor. Good location but there are much cleaner, better equipped and centrally located hostels you'd be better off in. In the pictures below you'll notice there's no bedside tables with any lamps on them, that's ok because the bathroom light cannot be turned off so you don't need any. OR you would see if this site would allow the pictures I'd taken but for some reason upload will not load. We were provided with no space to place anything other than a poorly installed shelf that was stained and sticky, hopefully from a nice hair spray but I doubt it. The mattress was thin and kept falling off the bed. Not an experience I'm used to. The door to the balcony needs a kick to open. Door to bedroom cannot be locked from the inside. When asked to fix things, they will enter your room without asking. The drain on the balcony is severely broken. The light outside our door was flashing like a disco our entire stay. That made leaving our room risky as the cleaners always had at least one bag of washing on the floor at our door. Overall, I'm sure not the worst in place to lay your head in Amsterdam but I'll not be returning nor recommending. Happy to post pics later to prove.

• jenna (6/5): - We stayed on the 5th floor and it was really difficult to bring luggage up the stairs as there was no elevator. The room was extremely small (which we were aware of prior to booking) so I wouldn’t recommend staying here unless it’s for a few night like we did. There was a horrible smell in the bathroom during our entire stay. However, other than the smell the room was very clean and in an amazing location with with walking distance to all the major sights.
• Sathya (2/5): - Its poorly managed as part of another Hotel, to say the furniture is severely outdated and bed/mattress was similar consistency to concrete. The facilities do not work and vending machine will take your money but has no goods.
• Judith (2/5): - The property was close to the centre of Amsterdam, but to get to our room we had to climb steep and dangerous staircases with two large heavy bags with no help. The people at reception which was a couple of doors down and a mountain goat climb to get up there were unbelievably non hospitable, off hand and rude. Not a good experience.
• Isabella (4/5): - It should be disclosed in the description how many stairs are in this property and it’s not the fact of stairs it’s how steep and thin they are. You can’t even put your full foot on a stair you have to go up sideways. I do not recommend this for any elderly, kids, or disability’s! However the room was okay, the bathroom however REEKED of mildew and mold. Yes it’s been remodeled but the smell is potent you need to have the door closed at all times, to make it go away. The worst part was on our last night we went up to our fourth floor room and our card was deactivated. And it was because the night prior the room beside us which was 402 was having visitors ams a party. Loud music on the balcony outside our window from 12am-6am and they were smoking and talking. We weren’t going to get up to complain but we weren’t even able to open our window because of how uncomfortable we were with them being able to see inside of our room while we’re sleeping. However when our key got declined the following day it was because the hotel said it was us! I repeatedly said it was us but they said security said it was us and we would be marked that we could not stay again! It was genuinely so disrespectful the way they spoke to my partner and I. Despite having cameras all over the damn hotel, they blatantly and disrespectfully accused us. And for paying $400 for three nights, you’d think they wouldn’t be so rude about it. Despite that the location is good with food and stores surrounding it.
• Verified traveler (2/5): Smells so bad.... - The entire building had a terrible smell. When we arrived there was black hair in the bathroom and an empty cigarette carton on the balcony. I asked if we could cancel our second two nights after the first night but was denied. I got bites all over my back that found several reviews complaining about bed bugs. I would avoid this place.

• Olivia (2/5): Avoid!!! - One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at, it really smelt bad the toilet and sink are in front of each other so you end up head butting the sink when you need to wipe! The radiator made a loud noise all day and night the bedding wasn’t changed once you get hand towels as bath towels and the Tv didn’t work we had the worst time because of this hotel.
• TravelingBum52 (6/5): Suitable for sleeping - We stayed in this hotel for 3 days while in Amsterdam. The hotel has a great location. Don’t expect anything fancy because all you are getting is a bed to sleep on and a bathroom. Our room faced the street, so we had a nice view. Make sure to bring toiletries. Nothing but toilet paper in the bathroom. The safe was locked and we couldn’t use it. They don’t allow checking in before 3pm so don’t bother. Stairs are steep and dangerous. No elevators! Bring small luggage!
• Jill (8/5): - We were warned about the stairs but they were very steep and 2 flights up difficult to carry suitcases. Shower light kept flicking off which was annoying. Cracked bathroom vanity wasn’t great. But bed was nice and good location.

• Verified traveler (2/5): - Upon arrival staff took 15 minutes to show up and check us in. Even then they seemed like they couldn’t be bothered. The whole hotel is old fashioned, worn and not maintained. We paid extra for a twin room and was given a double. The shower in the room did not work and the guy tried to tell us it was fine. Our keycard stopped working for the door so we struggled to get into the hotel and then he just said it shouldn’t be an issue. Overall just very disappointing. P.s. don’t take a massive suitcase because you will have to carry it up 4 flights of stairs which are like trying to walk up a cliff.

Even the guy at the desk told us not to take a shower with the door close because of the steam and didn’t wanted to die. Ned was dirty and let’s not talk about the bathroom so disgusting and dirty. Everything in the room was dirty and old. I don’t recommend this place not even to my worse enemy. Don’t even go there!

• Robyn (2/5): what a dump - This place is a scam! Rooms look nothing like the pictures. They will not store luggage despite the welcome email stating they do. The room condition was laughable. Our window was held open by a scrap of wood. We weren’t informed of the multiple flights of narrow and extremely steep stairs until months after booking and payment. Don’t waste your money.
• tony (4/5): - First of all the location is great. Walk to Anne frank house (except i couldn't get in because you have to book 6 weeks ahead, be warned) and you can walk to the royal palace. First night we got there, in the middle of the night temperature was 50 degree (F) and so cold we couldn't sleep. We told the front desk young gentleman who said no worries heating will be up in a few hours it takes time. still no heat out of the heat system at all. Had to keep warm huddling together. Next day I discovered the answer to the aged heat radiation system in a knob in the corner of the window that kept the system off. Second night i brought a stained coffee kettle to the same gentleman and asked if i can leave it there so that they can send me a clean one but he told me to come back to him later as he is checking guests in and for me to bring back later he didn't want me to leave it there. The building has no elevator and there is a very steep and narrow stair case to the second floor (almost the third floor because the ceilings are very tall) that every day you need to navigate. I watched with amusement two young ladies growling to haul their suit case up the stairs as they nicely declined my offer to help. The lights in the bathroom would automatically turn off every few minutes as you would need to get out of the shower and wave your arms at the ceiling for 4-5 times each shower to turn it on. Same thing when you sit on the toilet. The walls are very thin so you hear folks scurrying

• adampO4568SY (10/5): Simple, cheap, clean and friendly. You get what you pay for. Excellent location - The reason this is 5 star is because you get everything you pay for. I booked the cheapest hotel with a private bathroom I could find and I got a small, cheap, clean hotel room with a private bathroom. To expect anything more for the price I paid is ignorance. The hotel receptionist was LOVELY and friendly. They let you keep your bags there (at your own risk). The rooms clean and its 3 minute walk from The Royal palace, you couldn't be more central. Don't pay cheap and expect expensive, I see it so much. This place is brilliant and a great value for money, I'd come here again if I travel solo.
• Anna (10/5): - Perfect hotel, me and my brothers were here for a city break and this hotel was surrounded by culture. The workers were so friendly and invited us for conversation at many times. The stairs were quite steep but this is something that was quickly forgotten as the other aspects were perfect!

Water temperature and pressure was inconsistent in the shower. Everything we wanted to do was within walking distance and the room was serviced daily but still not what we were expecting
• lolacM2985CY (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE - I repeat, do. not. stay. here. Upon arrival, we were instructed to go check in at their "sister hotel" which initially didn't seem like a huge deal. When we entered the building, a sign at the bottom of the stairs said they would not store our luggage. Even though our welcome email told us they would. When we asked why they said it was because someone's luggage had been stolen earlier that week. So, rather than find a more secure way to store luggage to prevent this, they instead instructed customers to store them at the bike shop next to the hotel... for 10 euros per suitcase. The stairs are steep and there is no elevator. Which was not listed online. Being that two of us have bad knees we asked about accommodations or a refund, to which we were told no refund would be offered, no one would help us with our bags and there was no elevator. Inside our room, they offered two bath towels and a 2 in 1 shampoo/body wash pump for the shower. No hand towels, no bar soap, nothing. We did eventually find a "hand soap pump" which seemed to have the same liquid as the 2 in 1 shampoo pump in the shower. The sheets had hair on them, and there was a weird smell throughout the room. The queen bed is two twin beds pushed together. I am not sure what these pictures are from in the images the hotel offers but it is not representative of the actual hotel. They only offered one key, an additional key would need a deposit of 5 euros. No ac, so when we entered the room there were flies everywhere due to the door to the patio being open for "airflow". Seriously, do yourself a favor, pay a little extra, and avoid this hotel!!

As an elderly with a back condition it bothers me. I asked for a lower room, they said they were fully booked . My 3 nights there were pain and suffering.

• gcroton1 (6/5): Great location; basic hotel - Hotel La Belle Vue is much like the city of Amsterdam itself – old and small. At least, the rooms are small: you could barely swing a cat in the attic room my wife and I were allocated for two nights in late July 2024. Having said that, the central location of the hotel is outstanding, the bed was very comfortable, everything was spotlessly clean in our bedroom and bathroom and, for the money we paid, I think it was a fair enough deal. I should also add that all the staff are charming and very friendly. As other reviewers have mentioned, there are lots of steep stairs and the communal areas of the hotel are shabby, outmoded and in need of renovation. But this is Amsterdam, and those comments apply to many buildings in this ancient, dirty old town. I think people need to get real. If you want a great location for a reasonable price and can cope with what are only basic comforts, then go for this option. If, however, you prefer to travel into the city from miles out at great expense for greater comfort, then stay elsewhere. I would not recommend this tired, old hotel for more than a long weekend, but for that it's fine if your expectations are realistic and proportional to the modest budget needed for a stay here, in the heart of a very expensive European city.

• Wesley (6/5): - There are 2 massive flights of steep stairs. I’m young so it’s not a huge deal for me, but this property is not handicap or senior friendly. The reception is at the hotel next door which is not very convenient. The room itself was pretty small, and looks absolutely nothing like the pictures. Much less recently renovated. Location was great and the balcony was nice.

• sededuk (10/5): Great location, excellent staff. - Nice clean room in a very good location in the heart of Amsterdam. We arrived on a 7 Am flight and left our bags with the desk while we explored and ate. at 3 pm we checked-in for a shower and nap before dinner. Our room was spacious, clean, tons of hot water and a balcony view of Amsterdam activities Roughly two blocks from the Ann Frank house, one block from the tram and in between two canals which made wandering easy and finding our way back a breeze.

Check in is few doors down, big note at reception prohibiting drugs and weapons tell you all you need to know what kind of a place it is. End up booking another place

• hazell587 (2/5): You get what you pay for - If you're happy with a basic room in a good location, then this may work for you. For me, I wouldn't stay again. It is an old, tired hotel, with an extremely steep (dirty!) 2-floor staircase. The room I was in smelt quite badly of cigarettes. The sheets/linen and bath towels were all clean and neatly arranged. There was a balcony, which was nice. The front desk were friendly. The shower was hot. There was only a couple of sachets of green tea and 2 paper cups next to the kettle. The cups were dirty inside. I kept on hearing doors slamming overnight and people moving around in the corridor outside my door. It didn't feel 100% safe and secure. I didn't think it would be safe in the event of a fire either. Anyway, you get what you pay for! It was a good price and location. Just a bit old, dingy and with a very dangerous staircase! I wouldn't stay again.
• Marianna (8/5): - The hotel was in a great area. We were on the back side and not facing the main road so it was very quiet at night. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was recently renovated. The only downside was that there was a ton of very narrow stairs to get up to reception and then a narrow spiral staircase to get up or down to the rooms. Make sure to look at all the pictures to get an idea of what they look like. Don't book this place if you have mobility issues, heavy luggage, or plan on stumbling back drunk or you probably won't make it up the stairs.

• michellejelley11 (2/5): AVOID - Long weekend ruined by the very filthy, poor quality of this hotel & it's facilities - AVOID - Poor hygiene, cleanliness & facilities in our room, rubbish under the bed, still there when we left. Stale smell of cigarette smoke in our room. Cigarette ash in the balcony door threshold, balcony was filthy with weeds growing. The guttering you look down onto was filthy, full of rubbish, cigarette butts & a condom - disgusting. Door to the bathroom visibly filthy from dirty hands. We did not feel comfortable sleeping there as it was horrible & dirty. The runner on the bed had a reddish-brown mark on it, not sure if it was blood or faeces. Did not approach the staff as felt intimidated - male staff sat at the reception desk smoking did not invite a complaint about the room. Communal lounge & toilet filthy, chairs ripped, toilet stank of urine & dirty sanitary bin. I contacted Booking.com several times via phone & email on our return, they are not interested, once you've paid your money that's it. They should take some responsibility as they happily advertise this hotel.
