Guest Reviews
- lynsey (10/5): - Iust such a perfect settling. Accommodation is very basic, but wow! Gorgeous setting, lovely staff, completely hassle free. I only initially booked for one night , finished up staying for 3, and will be back!
- I A (10/5): - YHA set in a stunning location, basic accomodation with easy access to the Lake District set in stunning scenery.
Good food, friendly staff and excellent value for money.
- Alison (8/5): - The property is in a beautiful location and remote. The drive up is not for the feint hearted, but well worth it for the location.
- Robert (10/5): Decent - Good place to stay for night
- Jonathon (6/5): WiFi Not Really Working - Staff were great and location could be considered good for some as it is located at the base of some of the Helvellyn ascent routes, however, it is also a 25 minute walk from Glenridding, so consequently there are no shops in the immediate vicinity. Staff were great as said, and there is a communal kitchen and drying room, though the WiFi was virtually not working at all, and any little spark of life had to be taken from a very specific part of the ground floor building. Honestly, for the price paid, to not have working WiFi, I would consider it quite the rip-off. The room door was also not functioning properly, and though the bathrooms were clean, and the showers good, it is priced too high for a place without basic 2024 amenities - i.e. WiFi (there is no mobile signal).

- Louise (8/5): birthday night away - Me and my fiance stayed here for 1 night at the hostel didnt know what expect as never been to one before but when checked in was pleasantly surprised staff very welcoming hostel very clean view from room was nice also went hiking up the mountains was beautiful scenery will definitely come back in future
- Dan (8/5): - Location to walks
- Graham (10/5): - Very comfy beds and great shower facilities. Breakfast bap and coffee was lovely
- John (10/5): Little Gem in the Foothills of Hellvellyn - There is a first time for everything. At the age of 58, my first stay at a Youth Hostel was a memorable one. What a journey up the track to the lodgings, not for the faint hearted, but wll worth the trip. A breath taking view awaits you. As soon as you enetred the building the warmth and friendliness of the staff lifted and relaxed you. Nice little room with clean Bunks, lovely and warm and amazing views to the stream and river. We enjoyed a nice drink at the bar too. Shower was fine and toilets clean. Breakfast was only a sausage or bacon bun (veggie options) but it was great quality. I'd certainly go again. You get a real sense of community with other walkers too. We ate down the hill in Glennridding, but food was available. Overall, most enjoyable and value for money.
- David (8/5): Decent staff, couple of issues with the hostel - Excellent staff and customer service. Showers were too small resulting in clothing getting wet - and I'm only 5ft 8ins and 11 stone. Bear in mind, self catering kitchen is locked overnight (nothing to tell you this as far as I'm aware) so check they'll leave it open if you want an early start.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing location. Interesting local mining history. Loved the walks
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely location and ideal for a walk up helvellyn
- Rupert (10/5): Yha Glenridding - Used as a base for training in the lakes. Great friendly and cheerful staff. Great value food and service with a smile. A great team well done
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great youth hostel with friendly staff close to some amazing hills and mountains
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Really helpful friendly staff, value for money. Lots of choice to eat/ drink compared to what i expected.
- michael (8/5): - Only criticism is the cleanliness of the showers, everything else during our stay was absolutely perfect nd will be returning again!
- graham (10/5): Pricey for a hostel but quality accommodation - Friendly welcome. They had problems with internet but got us settled in our room while they sorted it. Great breakfast and good advice on the local area for walking
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Loved the location, a stone's throw to the ski slopes (closed of course now) and many high fells.
Only chip in their armour was the lack of hot water in the showers, or it might have been my inability to work out how to control the temp (tried a couple of shower cubicles though). I like my showers cold, so it didn't bother me in particular, but I know for others it could be hell.
I'm a bit on the wild side, so other things I heard from others (more mainstream comfort minded): access is not ideal for a saloon car, no mobile phone signal in the area, wifi downstairs only, place is isolated so you're effectively forced to spend your time there. Worked fine for a last minute bargain mini holiday for me and my children, though!
