Guest Reviews
- Daniel (9/5): -
- Jack (10/5): The staff was excellent and kind all - the lake view was just remarkable - Very beautiful quiet nature appreciation place - loved the location We were only ones there which I liked
- Estefania (2/5): - Muy mala atención, no pude finalmente asistir y perdí 130.000
- Patricia (10/5): Me encantó - Ok Oma
- Carlos Durand (10/5): Sueno cumplido!
- Carolina (4/5): Ehhh ok - The view of the lake from the room There was a power outrage and even thought they knew of the outrage they still wouldn’t turn on their generator unless asked to do it…: their excuse was that it was too expensive to turn it on …. My reply was that my stay there wasn’t cheap either I was expecting what I paid for
- Eliana (8/5): - La vista, las instalaciones
- Paula (7/5): -
- JULIAN (9/5): Frío pero lindo. - Me gustaron los paisajes, la
Comida y las instalaciones en general. El clima, es muy frío.
- Nazario (10/5): - Il personale è molto gentile e disponibile.
- annechien (9/5): -
- LUZ (10/5): I would recommend the beautiful experience. - The service, food ,location and hospitality was Fantastic. Would recommend to anyone the beautiful experience. Nothing
- George (10/5): -
- ricardo (10/5): -
- Christine (9/5): -
- Scott (10/5): - Really beautiful place. Very kind and attentive staff. Clean, and excelente food.
- Esteban (8/5): -
- Jannin (10/5): -
- Andrés (10/5): Lugar tranquilo para descansar - Tranquilidad .
- Olga (10/5): Exceptional -
- Patrick (10/5): Claudia, the owner was very attentive, exceeded our needs and made all of our arrangements perfect. Chef Rosa cooked ama - The property was stunning. It had excellent views and was very very clean. We enjoyed everything about the property
- Nurah (7/5): Relax and unwind in the middle of nowhere - great location, felt like the middle of nowhere. staff was very friendly and helpfull. food was good. help around the hotel with requests were discussable and met. a great place to relax and unwind and unplug.
canoe, hot tub, jacuzzi present and functional. great place for family fun and just to reconnect. many games present and a nice camp fire every night. hot water for tea is available throughout the day.
nice (short) hikes possible all around because it's in the middle of nowhere, you cannot easily go to dinner (or lunch) elsewhere. also no grocery store nearby. so as a guest, you are very dependent on the location for water and food. but also transportation: there is only one boat a day to take you there, otherwise you either have to pay quite a fee for an "extra" boat or get a cab which goes through a muddy pothole-filled road. These bring additional costs to the stay, so please be mindful of this when booking! or bring your own water bottles and maybe easy-to-heat-up noodles or something.
Furthermore, the room is quite small, also the bathroom is a bit cramped. And the hot water takes about 4-5 minutes after opening the faucet. not the best wifi connection also.
- Claudia (9/5): Superb - It was great! the staff was very friendly, the food was good, the rooms were clean and nice. The boat was late, we had to wait 30 minutes for another couple even though the instructions given by the owner were very clear about delays, saying they wouldn't wait for anyone.
- Giovanni (10/5): My weekend getaway was magical. - I loved everything about this property, the location and service were top notch.
- Diana (10/5): Exceptional -
- MontyStoller (10/5): What a lovely place!!!! - After having postponed our trip to Guatape twice due to Covid we finally spent our holidays in Hotel Pietrasanta in October. This place is like heaven - completely remote (accessible only by boat), quiet with pure air. Relax, read a book, go walking, enjoy the view, play one of the games, do canoeing or swimming or just have a nice conversation with your beloved ones. We booked two "cabanas bungalow" and one "cabana flotante". The latter is definitely a highlight and don't worry the small house only sways when a boat arrives (which is very seldom). Another highlight is the staff. Every person is so friendly and tries to fulfill every wish. A special thanks to the kitchen crew. Having two vegeterian in the family is not very common in Colombia and therefore not easy to cope with. Yet, every single dish was very tasteful and delicious! Thanks Claudia for these lovely days in Guatape! Highly recommeded!
- Sjaak051255 (4/5): On the website it looks much more nice then in reality - We were from 11-12 march 2021 in this beautiful landscape hotel. Its very quiet and the transport to and from the hotel was good organized . However the weather was not as it should be and aspected. and then its a other story. In the boat you get realy wet and cold when its raining. There are normaly a lot of activities to do and to see and you are paying for this ofcourse. But with less beautiful weather there is nothing to do else then waiting when you can go back to the harbour. We had so called ¨chalet ¨, on the website it is realy looking well but its not more then one room with a bed and a very litle shower with out warm/hot water. 0,8 x 1. mtr for shower, toilet and washing is very very litle. The path from where the boat comes to land is very steep and no good paved. Its for older people sometimes very difficlut without help to do this. The personal is very helpfull by the way. Overal in the rate value for money I will not recommadate this accomodation with no fantastic weather and otherwise with good weather its like a paradise but still the rate value for money is poor.
- marta (10/5): UN LUGAR MÁGICO - ME ENCANTO EL LUGAR, LA PAZ, LA HOSPITALIDAD, EL SERVICIO, TODO.
- hugo (2/5): - no me pude hospedar. cuando llegamos no habia reserva
- milena (10/5): - Muy buena experiencia
- Stef (10/5): Wonderful location, amazing view and great staff - The hotel experience is amazing. The view of the hotel is everything. My only bad comment is about the bathroom, shower and floor were kinda dirty. The shower floor had hair I guess from guests... Kinda gross.
- 752tanyap (8/5): Amazing stay, Flotante is a must! - We had a great time in Pietrasanata. The Flotante Room is absolutely amazing. While I would categorize this as "glamping" in terms of facilities, the room was definitely comfortable and bathroom while small was fully functioning (with hot water and regular toilet, etc etc). 2 full days there was enough for us, but if you are eager to spend several days off the grid I can see this being the perfect place.
If you plan on staying at Pietrasanta I would definitely let them know ahead of time if you have any food restrictions. There are no meal options so you will not be able to navigate it once you are there.
Thanks for the great stay!
- carolinaf2015 (10/5): Excellent place to rest and to enjoy nature - Small hotel surrounded just by nature. A place where you can enjoy the silence, pure air, a walk around the mountain and many other outdoor activities, specially with your couple as it is a romantic place. The food is very good, the bungalow is very comfortable, clean and fresh, with an incredibly view of the dam. You can take table games to your room, and ask your what is needed. To get there you have to take a ride in a boat for about 20 minutes from Guatape's port. If you go by car to Guatapé you can park it in a place that's recommended by the hotel.
- W4848OIgeoffs (10/5): Amazing place to spend time with someone special - This place is more of a resort than just a hotel. They serve great local cuisine made from scratch. We stayed in one of their floating cabins and it makes for an experience unlike any other as all their rooms are very nice, clean and have beautiful views. The entire stay was filled with optional activities at no extra charge such as a boat road to a waterfall, a hike up a mountain that offers a breathtaking view which I think is better than the view at the Rock of Guatapé. I will definitely go back. I couldn't recommend it more for someone that is looking for a relaxing adventure. Customer service was also great as everyone was very accommodating and nice. Make sure to book early as it can book up fast, and if you're lucky enough to go make sure you take someone special to enjoy the experience with.
- claralbridge (6/5): Not what we expected - For this price we strongly believed the place was much much better. We stayed there for 3 days... the bungalow we stayed at was very tiny and only had one Electric outlet and was next to a noisy washing machine that we had to listen every day from sunrise till sunset. While we where there, our room was never cleaned up. Even though they kindly threw some rose petals in the floor for our arrival.
The 3 meals were included, were delicious but you can't choose, there's only one option.
We had a romantic dinner at the lake, everything was good but it was so windy so the candles turn of, so we couldn't see our plates and faces. It was completely dark.
- jsanchezbarrera (10/5): PietraSanta is a paradise on earth - I visited the hotel with my girlfriend during a full weekend, the adventure started when they picked us up to go to the hotel by boat, the trip was 30 minutes long full of expectation emotion that everyone felt on the boat.
When we arrived to the hotel we saw one of the most beautiful places that we have seen in ours lives, a few chalets in front of a lake and in the middle of a nature reserve, far from all, simply a unique experience.
The hotel is a mix of practical, comfortable and beautiful design. The staff always treated us better than we were at home. Breakfasts on the chalet`s deck and in the area of restarantes were delicious, local food prepared by the habitants of the region. I recommend you book one of the fancy dinners, my girlfriend and I booked one of them the first night. this is a great plan to share with your partner, very romantic, very special, the rest of the night you will make that dinner inspired by hahaha
during the day we enjoyed the trek to buenavista hill, the tour on the "Planchon" and the lake, where we swam from shore to shore.
My girlfriend and I left the hotel very happy, satisfied, and more in love after our weekend in pietrasanta.
I recommend, as the staff says, we must live the experience pietrasanta
- juanaM4679MY (4/5): Beautiful location - disappointing facilities and standards - We went for a weekend and when we got to the hotel we tough it was one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. However once you get to the rooms, you start noticing that the amenities don't warrant the price.
The walls in the room were full of wholes, the hot water didn't work continuously, the sheets felt cheap and old, etc.
The saving grace of the property, aside from the landscape, was the family that tends to the property, they were nice and pleasant, and did the best they could in absence of proper hospitality training.
Would not really recommend for the price.
- Pangelmar (6/5): Not recommended for privacy or food - We visited this place with high expectations after been recommended by some friends.
I have to say that the place is beautiful and quiet and the people that work there are very nice but it didn't meet my expectations about privacy and food.
Floating rooms: the pictures in the website do not accurately reflect the location of the rooms. The floating rooms are really close to the dock so everything you do in the room is visible from there.
Food: each meal has only one option. They don't take into account allergies or food preferences into the design of the menu. If you don't like or can't eat what's there, then you have to say and probably they'll prepare something else, but it is only on demand.
Boat pick-up: when arriving to the restaurant where the pickup is, identify yourself with the waiter otherwise the driver will leave without you because they don't pass by asking if you are going to the hotel.
- ellact (10/5): Beautiful setting and lots to do - This was the first place we stayed in Colombia and it really set the bar high!
About 30 minutes away from the town of Guatape, accessible only by boat, this place really offers a taste of paradise.
The accommodation is little cabanas set on the side of a hill that descends to the waterfront. Being so remote, all meals are prepared and provided by the hosts, which we really enjoyed as although not the most varied, was really delicious (especially in comparison to other Colombian food!) The best part is all of the activities available - we hiked up to a summit with amazing views, went out on a boat to a swimming bay, borrowed the accommodation's' kayaks and general had a wonderful time.
I'd recommend two fairly action packed nights, or three nights for maximum relaxation.
- Casamona-Real-Estate (10/5): Best ever- Do you love nature? Piece and water? A real "get a away" place . Nature resort- - I love it . So quiet - so nice . relax and be in an other world for 24 hours . They get you in a boat- You are sailing for 30 min - a nice trip . Then you get a welcome drink and the owner is welcoming you. You get your room, all of them with a fantastic view. We got an extra room for free as we had 3 kids with us. This way 3 kids in one and we had a whole for for us. So nice of them. You get food here too. Ask them in advance for fish if you like this more then meat . The internet is bad- So go and relax- swim in the lake , go for a walk - also they offer you a walk with a guide - You see a cave and you get up on a mountain with an amazing view . I love this place I will come back- Nice rooms Nice people- But be ready for being "with the nature". We had our 3 big kids with us . They loved it too . Call it a resort- and not a hotel- eco resort- With amazing views .
- travelingincolombia (2/5): Didn't pick us up - The terrible review is a result of service and communication, as we didn't get to stay here.
I spent a lot of time sending e-mails and waiting for replies and finally confirming (I suppose there are problems with internet there, which is understandable).
However, on the day we were to arrive we called about 2 hours before the scheduled pick up time at the dock to double check the where and when and inquire if the dock we were at might not be better (as it was closer). Since where we were was not OK, we went to the assigned place and waited, only to finally learn that the boat had come and gone and no one had come to our assigned place to get us. After a few more phone calls Victor agreed to send the boat back, but now we would now arrive several hours later.
Also, we had learned belatedly in our communications that to leave the hotel the next day we would have to pay a substantial transportation fee to get back to the dock if we wanted to leave Guatape before 5 pm.
We were tired of waiting, the delay didn't seem worth the expense and we weren't confident more waiting would yield results. We opted to cancel (which Victor did) and found a room in town.
We had gone out our way on a tight schedule for this experience, so it was extremely disappointing.
My advice is not to do this on a tight schedule and realize that you do not have any transportation options but one boat daily in and out and this could be either risky or costly depending on what you need.
I'll have to leave it to others to say if it was worth it if they finally got there.
- arisberna (10/5): Location amazing!! - The Hotel Pietra Santa is located in a surreal place.
Only reachable with a boat you are outside everything and everyone. You can rest, relax and enjoy nature and few amenities to make your stay absolutely great.
We had a nice bungalow. With shows, toilet, bed, tv with satellite and patio with amok where you can sleep outside. You can also choose bungalow directly on the lake to have it even more romantic.
You have a little restaurant and little tables where you can eat and admire the stunning panorama.
There is the possibility to do some activities like fishing and walking.
We had a romantic dinner on a platform in the middle of the lake which was fantastic. Food was good and all went down really well with a bottle of rose wine.
If you want a romantic get away this is the perfect place!
- mattsgarageshow (8/5): Amazing environment, basic accomodations - My wife and I had mixed feelings about Pietra Santa. On one hand the service was very personal thanks to Victor and his family, the views from the floating cabana were awesome, and the nature walk was great. But the quality of the bed was so bad that we really could not get a decent night's sleep. The place is magical so it's worth the pain but a decent mattress, softer pillows and larger sheets would make it perfect. It is a bit bare-bones so don't expect luxury. More like "glamping" than a hotel but we were ok with that. The kids loved it. A great place to unplug and see beauty for a few days.
- Quentin (10/5): One of a Kind - Arriving by boat the hotel appears around the bend with a beautiful golden retriever running to greet you. Step off onto the dock and walk up the stairs and Sangria is handed to you with a smile So private and secluded and simple with delicious food. We were lucky to get the flotation cabin literally floating on the lake your eye level with the water lying in bed. Like no experience before. Quiet, fun, romantic, the pouring rain beyond cozy. Everyone should stay here at least once in their life. Brilliant and soulful.
- agustino90 (10/5): Amazing place! Strongly recommend it! - Hotel Pietra Santa is a gem in the middle of the most beautiful water reserve in Colombia!
The entire experience is wonderful! It starts with a 30 min boat ride to the Hotel, which is located in a very private area of Guatapé. Since your arrival you feel both at home and in paradise: excellent service, delicious meals that resemble home-cooking, beautiful view everywhere you look, and very pretty cabins!
My girlfriend and I stayed there for two nights, and wish we could have stayed longer! We really enjoyed the guided hike (which takes you to an overlook and a cave, both amazing!) and the pontoon ride to the waterfalls (quite romantic and you get to see a lot of the water reserve).
We also took our inflatable paddle board with us, and had a blast exploring nearby water areas.
By far the most fantastic place I've been to near Medellin, strongly recommend it, and feel very grateful for the experience.
Finally, another great aspect of the hotel is that it's in Guatapé, so if you go there you must explore the down town area "Plaza de Los Zócalos" and climb the big rock "Piedra del Peñol". You'll love the entire experience!
It's hard to express in words what we lived and felt there, so hope the pictures help :)
(Combination of rock, town and hotel)
- PhileasFoggontour (8/5): Location, Location, Location - We spent a Thursday and Friday at the Pietra Santa. We took one of the floating cabins. It was pleasant to be on the water but some of the fittings are (for the price) a little basic and in the day - even with the doors open - the room was very, very hot.
The countryside around the hotel is beautiful and makes the trip worthwhile. We went on one of the walks that the landlord organizes (and excellent host incidentally)) and it was lovely. However the walk lasted around two and a half hours and in the morning sun of Colombia a hat, good walking shoes and sunscreen are a must. Like most walking in Colombia there are plenty of elevation changes!
The hotel food was simple Colombian food - basically a plate at both lunch and dinner, meat, rice and potatoes. There does seem to be the opportunity to choose dishes - and have a 'romantic' meal but we didn't try this. They certainly don't push extras very hard and it took a little questioning from us to buy a bottle of wine (COP 30,000) or even beer. There was no sign of any spirits to purchase.
We did encounter problems when we arrived in that the secure parking in Guatape that the hotel suggests before getting the boat wasn't available (the key had been lost?). With the help of a long telephone call to the hotel we did get the problem sorted at another more distant parking but make sure you have the hotel number in case of problems.
There is wifi near the central building but it was very, very slow. However that's probably not a concern for some people. My wife and I have two different Colombian cell carriers. Her's had service, mine not.
At night as we looked out onto the lake I did comment that such a quiet and exclusive location in any other part of the world would be very expensive. Our room, based on the current low COP value was around $150. However the hotel doesn't provide any frills and for some overseas visitors the food and the lack of a reasonably stocked bar could be an issue.
The staff were very pleasant and worked hard. For older travelers some of the paths on the property are quite steep and the steps down to our floating cabin needed some careful navigation with loose and missing steps.
The hotel arranges a boat (leaving in mid afternoon) to the hotel and returning back to the town. As we needed to leave earlier we got the hotel to arrange our own 'express' boat back. The cost was COP 60,000
We'll return. It's a great location and by international standards exceptional value.
- O2002SXemilyh (10/5): Incredible hotel - highlight of our trip - We stayed here just for one night - which is far too short. I wish we'd had at least 3 days to really take advantage of the location, to relax and explore the island some more. The property is set in an inlet by itself and you feel like you basically have the island to yourself. We stayed in a floating cabana, which was incredible. The staff were all very nice and helpful. We very much enjoyed the hike they took us on! The food was fantastic - very good Colombian food. We have raved about this to everyone since we've been home and will be back the next time we come to Colombia.
- laurosaurial (10/5): Magic place. Do not miss it! - Will definitely go back!
Amazing spot in the middle of Guatapé laguna surrounded by wild and fantastic nature. Very intimate feeling since the room offer is low. Great for couples and friends. Very good food and great staff. I highly recommend it. The four of us loved it.
Amazing spot in the midle of Guatapé laguna.
- JaimeC595 (10/5): Nature all around - This place is great. The staff is super friendly and good in what they do. The rooms are not luxurious, but they are more than OK to have a comfortable sleep. The landscape is simply amazing, nature all around. They take you to do hiking and swimming (you can also do these by yourself). I saw a couple of reviews criticizing the food... I really liked the food. Just be aware that they serve the same dish to everybody (I guess you can ask for something different, just try, they are super friendly). We spent 3 nights there. We were supposed to spend 1 night in one of the floating rooms. It moves when a motor boat arrives to the hotel. It is not a lot of movement, somebody could find it lulling, but I got dizzy :p. If there are free rooms, you can ask them to locate you in another room, which was what we did and what they helped us with nicely
