Guest Reviews
- Leslie (6/5): You get what you pay for - Basic Basic
- Laura (10/5): Excellent staff, super friendly and helpful. Would absolutely come back for more hiking around the area - Excellent staff and location Nothing
- young (7/5): -
- Cath (9/5): Excellent stay for such great value and in a lovely location for walks and enjoying the village - Great to have all the self catering facilities and an unexpected shower in the room. Hard to cook breakfast as the frying pans had lost their non stick so our eggs were a bit of a stuck mess!
- Richard (8/5): -
- Angele (9/5): Leuk om in deze jeugdherberg met prima (stapel)bedden te verblijven. - Eenvoudig maar goed ontbijt en gastvrije gastheer en gastvrouw
- Agnieszka (10/5): Exactly what you can expect from yha hostel :) -
- Rob (9/5): Excellent thanks to Nick! - Huge thank you to the manager, Nick. I called in advance to explain I would be arriving by bike. On arrival Nick had reserved me the downstairs room. Nick overall service was also excellent. Would definitely recommend. Amazing value too. The room was clean. Other communal areas and the windows could do with a clean.
- Ian Morton (10/5): Fantastic hostel, terrific staff, great value and perfect location - Breakfast excellent value
Location perfect for my requirements
Value for money - fantastic

- Mehan (10/5): Fab stopover for the Ridgeway - The staff were very nice and friendly and helpful to the point they even found me a hot water bottle as my back was a bit sore. We were walking the Ridgeway and stayed here having walked from Letcombe Regis in the morning. The location was perfect as it’s on the route. There is a pub a few mins walk away but it was shut due to the chef being away. Goring over the bridge is beautiful and plenty of places to eat. We walked to Tesco express 15 mins away and then used the kitchen here to make our meals. Place is great value for money and we had room 3 - 2 bunk beds room to ourselves and it had its own shower and sink. We had our best nights sleep here so far on the walk - clean and comfortable. It wasn’t very busy given its March and so it was quiet. Very good value for money! The lounge was open from 3pm so we waited in there until check in at 5pm for a little bit. We would highly recommend the place. We walked to Lewknor from here it’s 18/19 miles ish and a beautiful walk - although we have had lovely weather so far! Nothing
- Alise (5/5): Affordable stay in a very beautiful town - The person that checked me in was very friendly and helpful, the town is absolutely beautiful and the YHA isn't too far from the town. Dorm room was clean. Check in is only between 5-10pm, and the kitchen smelled so bad I couldn't use it. A staff member who saw me in the afternoon (before check in) was rather brusque with me and informed there was no flexibility on check in (which meant I was late getting to an event).
- Janet (10/5): I will be back again soon - I stay regularly, it’s just wonderful Nothing
- Deborah (8/5): Friendly vibes. Brilliant, just the job. Good location. Eateries nearby. - Location was easy to find. Pre warned of STEEP parking on site, 100% true! Arrived in the dark but entrance was well lit. Friendly helpful staff. Lots of links to the history of the house and the people that used to live there, very interesting. Look at the helpful info on the back of the room door, maps out the shared facilities and emergency exit if needed. Breakfast was available but not required this stay. Please read the history of this building, it's interesting, someone has gone to the trouble to display it all, it's necessary! So you don't make the mistake of trying to open the door of another guest. It is an old old building, quirky and characterful.. If you like modern places state of the art, spas, gyms, go somewhere else.. If you like laid back, as if you are staying in someone's home, warm welcome.. this is the place for you.. Great value.. have had my eye on staying here for a while, but was often fully booked up, lucky to get a room this time. Shared self catering kitchen and lounge, comfortable and well equipped. If you need anything just ask the friendly, helpful staff .. some of them may be volunteers, not all YHA staff are on the pay roll. Recycling systems accessible in the SC kitchen and plenty of space for guests to store their own self catering food. Room was facing the main road, traffic noise during peak times, to be expected.. became much quieter later on. Room doesn't self lock like some key entry places do - you need to lock your room with the physical key or turn a knob. I didn't realise at first and left my room unlocked.. Later realised and locked my room.. good job.. later that evening, someone tried to open my door, Probably by mistake, because my room had a sign on it stating "dressing room" ( for someone that has read the info on the history of the building- all the signs on all the rooms make sense) .. But in my case the "dressing room" was not a dressing room any more.. It was the room I had booked for the night.

- Amanda (7/5): What a superb English countryside location - The full English breakfast (vegetarian) for under ten pounds was great. It is such a beautiful, English countryside location in a village setting. The lounge has books, board games and a large flat screen TV. There is a lock-up shed for bike storage overnight. There is easy access to the Thames National Trail footpath. The interior is unpretentious, so you can arrive after that exhausting day and not have to go to any effort to make yourself particularly presentable. The self-catering kitchen is large, well stocked and organised. My bunk bed was comfortable with a suitably warm duvet. There's a wash sink in the bedroom. The shower rooms are not particularly nice, but there is good hot water.
- Agnieszka (10/5): Our stay was just as we expected from YHA hostel 👍 - Super thank you for all the useful information and recommendations from a very helpful receptionist 😊
- Zoe (10/5): -
- Robert (6/5): I like the hostel, good place for exploring the countryside - Location is good being on The Thames. The decor is a bit sterile.
- Luke Shirley (10/5): -
- 51stState (1/5): Unfriendly and unwelcoming. - Location was good for Streatley and Goring. Check out before 10am includes the whole building, not just the room (but no prior notice given until 9.50am), pretty harsh especially when check in is not until 5pm. No access to lounge or storing of luggage. Breakfast has to be pre-ordered the night before 9pm. Very old, run down, tired looking place. WiFi was non-existent upstairs, very poor connection downstairs. Tiny room, small and uncomfortable beds with lack of power outlets (one by the door). Staff unfriendly, stand-offish, almost borderline rude, completely ignored by some. Bathrooms were not clean, visually and smell-wise.
- Ryan (10/5): Great stay - Super clean and Nick was really friendly and helpful. Excellent value for money.
- Izabela (10/5): -
- Alex (10/5): Great stay - wifi could be better
- Janet (10/5): Relaxing - Lovely staff. Lovely location. Planning my next visit. Nothing
- Brian (8/5): A very comfortable Hostel, well run and welcoming. - My booking was well dealt with on reception, including confirming where to find the Showers and toilet, and taking details of my requirements for Breakfast.
The Reception person, asked where I would be eating tonight and when I confirmed 'The Bull' suggested I show my keys to the bar staff to receive a 20% discount on my food order.
The breakfast was reasonably priced and enjoyable with a good selection of items available. Very filling, setting me up for the day. Nothing.
- Wali (7/5): -
- Samantha (8/5): - Perfect location for Reading festival. 20 minutes walk from the train station. Allowed us to check in early which was great.
Beds were super comfy.
- James (8/5): -
- Trevor (9/5): -
- Bartłomiej (8/5): - Bardzo czysto, miły personel, spokój Łazienki średnie, mają swoje lata oraz krany typowo brytyjskie niestety
- Trish (8/5): A very enjoyable night’s stay while away paddling on the Thames 🤗 - Excellent value and location ..lovely breakfast 😊 Not enough toilets given the capacity of the house
- andrea (8/5): - Hosts were great 😃
- Lisa (10/5): Great value for family adventures - Great location, spacious and clean room.
- Petr (8/5): -
- Tim (8/5): Very good -
- Marie (9/5): Clean and comfortable hostel accommodation. All staff were very friendly and helpful, providing excellent t customer ser - Fabulous location and bonus of free parking Entrance is steep, but that was pointed out before booking so I was aware.
- Jackie (8/5): Very good -
- Angela (8/5): Very good - Upgraded to a larger room at no extra cost
Clean and friendly Quite close to a busy road
- Glenn (9/5): Superb - Comfy beds N/A
- Noel (7/5): Good location; good price; tired building - Location is good Feels very overdue for refurbishing. At very least, would benefit from a deep clean.
- Tom (8/5): Very good -
- Brian (7/5): Good -
- Mary (9/5): Superb - I appreciated being able to drip off my bags early and rest in the lounge. Also, my room was private and comfortable. Great location- within walking distance to the Thames and shops.
- ann-marie (10/5): - The staff were amazing, incredibly helpful and friendly. They made sure that the gluten free member of our group was catered for at breakfast. The room was clean, and the beds comfy afrer walking the Thames path. I wiuld stay here again in a heartbeat and am thinking of retyrning with my family due to the location and price.
- Nurcan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- Archiezzz (10/5): Exceptional -
- Governor (10/5): Exceptional -
- Colleen (5/5): Don't stay here if you're a solo female traveller - It's basic as one expects. The location absolutely sucks if you need to be transported with luggage to the train station. The owners were not in the least helpful to try and advise. I was told "there is a taxi company number on the wall" call it. Just like that.I called. No answer. There is no Uber or Bolt...all one asks is for some advice from a local , most especially an owner, for a female traveller. I believe the owners are jaded and unconcerned about any request, at all, outside of their little box of offerings. They seem to cater to large hostel groups only...then, I believe they should make that clear on their booking.com "menu" as such. I would not recommend this as a solo female traveller. The owners don't give a shit.
- MICHAEL (8/5): 7th January 2025 - My stay was absolutely ok. Wifi access was a bit odd, phone could get the cloud but not my laptop. I was too late to get a parking spot and because the parking was on a hill I could see it was a difficult manoeuvre and so I could see frustratingly large gaps between the cars. So for future visitors it might be worth mentioning the parking is limited although thinking about it you may end up with people arriving at the same time and creating a traffic nightmare on the main road. Heh ho. Anyway everything was ok and the access at night with the door code was nice.
- Jodie (6/5): Pleasant - Value for money Nothing
- Shaun (8/5): Very good -
- Deborah (8/5): Very good - Great location, very quiet. Well equipped kitchen. Friendly helpful staff. One of the showers was not functioning properly - cold only. I reported this and was told it would be looked at promptly. Other shower lovely and warm!
- Edward (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brendan (10/5): Exceptional - The friendly staff and other residents. Sharing shower facilities, but it's a hostel. And only 1 double socket to share between 3 of us but not a game changer. Very good tho.
- Marta (10/5): Exceptional - Had the best time at the YHA hostel in Streatley! Dreamy hostel with adorable staff!
- Linh (7/5): Overall it was ok - Nice friendly staff. I had a room all to myself which was nice. Was close to the toilet and shower as well as the kitchen.
The kitchen area for self catering was nice and clean. There was only one kettle working though. The dining area was ok. The bathroom areas got flooded when it poured with rain.
This was late in the night and early hours of the morning.
The seating in the dining area wasn't very comfortable.
- Colin (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely staff and very comfortable
- Jean (10/5): Comfy, happy stay over :) - The Family room was very comfortable and everyone slept well. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent.
Thank you. I was happy with all aspects of our stay.
- Rachel (5/5): Reasonable stay would return due to convenience of location, price and housing a good numberi - Room housed the number of people we needed it to although plus sockets limited 2 for 5 people. Lounge area to use and snacks and drinks to be purchased ok price Sadly had a rather unpleasant stain on one our beds found after people had gone home staff apologetic but it was large and not sure how it would have been missed. Parking is a challenge and risk of grounding out on larger lower vehicle
- Matthew (9/5): Great location, clean and super helpful staff, thank you:) - Convenient location with 2 minutes of the river thames and 5 mins from goring village, i stayed one night before a running event and everything was great, super friendly staff, clean and comfortable. Would stay again :) Nothing
- John (8/5): Excellent value for money, location and superb staff. - Location was really handy. Was doing an ultramarathon from Goring village hall which was a few mins walk away. Staff at the YHA allowed us to use the showers after the race which was very kind and welcome. I'm over 6 foot and unfortunately I never find YHA beds that comfortable.
