Guest Reviews
- Altangerel (8/5): Write a short sentence to sum up your stay. Lovely peaceful stay with great views and friendly staff. - What did you like about the property?
Great location with beautiful views and a peaceful atmosphere. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and perfect for a short family stay. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the property felt relaxing and safe. What didn’t you like about the property?
Parking can be a little limited during busy times, and some areas could use a small refresh, but overall it was a pleasant stay.

- Astrid (9/5): Top. - Wunderschöne Umgebung. Mit Eichhörnchen und wilden Kaninchen. Unglaubliche Aussicht, direkt am SDW.

- J (7/5): Overall, great value for money if your spending very little time inside and just for sleeping. - Coming from London, the silence at night was deafening, the views of the surrounding area were stunning. The beds were comfy and changing rooms/ toilets/shower good level of cleanliness. The 7 bed room was much smaller than expected. There was an unwelcoming smell throughout the hallways and rooms.
- Andrew (6/5): Basic (as are most Youth Hostels) but clean, with nice staff and a nice cheap place for a short stop - Sadly the café/restaurant closed early because they had more people staying than usual. It's in the middle of nowhere - so great if you're looking for seclusion or crossing the downs, but its 3 miles from the nearest pub or food outlet (if, say, the café was closed when you got there). Great views inland across the downs, and towards the sea. Overall, it's a Youth Hostel - basic but clean, with friendly helpful staff. If you're used to Youth Hostels then this is fine - just don't expect Hotel style luxury. Would have been nice if the café hadn't stopped serving dinner when I arrived.

- nicky (8/5): Heerlijk bijkomen middenin de natuur - Prachtig in het groen Bed/matras was oud
- Gabriele (7/5): -
- James Devitt (8/5): - Perfect for walking the South Downs Way Mattress was not the best.
- Ross (7/5): - Great location and breakfast. Super cheap place to stay. Incredible views. Comfort was to be expected for a hostel. Bathroom and showers were okay. But for the money well worth it.
- Hillary (6/5): -
- Szymon (8/5): - the room was slightly cold, there was no heating
the breakfast was delayed as seems to be issues with fuses
- Debbie (9/5): Overall a wonderful stay - See my previous review for yesterday We got a phone call on the Saturday from one of the YHA members of staff asking when we were going to collect our stuff as it was past 10am! We reminded them we’re staying another night in the tent. This made for a very stressful moment especially as they phoned during the actual marathon. Something we could have done without tbh.
- Debbie (9/5): We booked for the Brighton Marathon weekend. Just perfect for our party of six, we loved our stay. - The beautiful setting and tranquility of the countryside.
The safari tent was fabulous: comfy beds, and a great set up for cooking, relaxing and particularly loved the log burner. It made for a great adventurous mini break. The shack lav and showers were great too. I loved the clean bedding and hot water 💦 on demand. Just perfect. Nobody’s fault but the windy weather on the first night meant that our tent , on top of the hill felt like it was going to take off!
- Cook (10/5): - Didn't have breakfast.
- Victoria (8/5): -
- Agnes (6/5): Great accommodation but staff member was rude - The bed was very comfortable and the dorm was perfect. The facilities were all clean. I was disappointed by the Welcome I received upon arrival (or lack thereof) from one of the female staff members. I didn't catch their name. They were very rude and I did not feel I could come back to reception with any queries. I felt very uncomfortable during that interaction.
- Cyril (10/5): - Nice location to explore the surroundings. It is very enjoyable for families with young children. Food was good value, including breakfast. There are lots of board games. Showers and washrooms were clean. Staff was helpful. Nothing. All good.
- Charlie (10/5): Will be back - Perfect location for south downs way walk. Clean and comfortable dorm bed. Sadly self catering kitchen working
- james (8/5): the location was beautifully staff was nice - the location is perfect the room was basic but as the price it was still value for money

- Adesan (10/5): Excellent - Your staff are amazing and spot on Nothing
- Maureen (5/5): Ok - Only two toilets for 11 rooms housing 6 people each and one broke down and was never repaired. Also four showers for the same number and one was out of order. Lastly no freezer provided.

- thapelo (2/5): Can never book it again - Nothing It’s right in the middle of nowhere
No access to public transportation -very very remote country side
Carpets and place generally looks so dirty
Very clear description of the property should be put especially about its remote location and fact that there is some gravel road to do to access the property
- Marina (10/5): Beautiful South Downs Hostel - Beautiful location on South Downs way with wonderful view. Friendly staff with cafeteria. Small comfortable dorm with clean bedding.
Would recommend if on walking trip. Excellent value Self catering kitchen and shower/toilet could do with upgrade.
Nothing else!
- Newman (7/5): Great place to stay. They need to give out of hours access code as people could be stuck outside. - It has a very beautiful setting. Staff were nice people I had to wait outside for 4 hours as there were no staff after 10pm. I go there at 01:00. I had to cancel the next day's shift subsequently.
- Charles (10/5): - Excellent value for money. Great facilities and the staff are amazing . It’s a bit of a trek!

Molti servizi igienici. Buona la pulizia. Nulla
- Lesley (10/5): - Very good, lovely staff, will certainly stay again 🙂
- Wendy (10/5): -
- Emenike Chijioke (5/5): - The bed only. Shower dirty, water pipe either blocked, not going out from the pipe, pool of water while showering. Staff showed cold feet towards me as a Blackman. Not suitable for people like me
- Adesan (10/5): - I shared a room with a colleague and the bunk bed was squeaky and I had to sleep on the floor....extremely uncomfortable
- mim (10/5): Fabulous Destination!! - A beautiful place and so budget friendly, thanks Think the bike store could have been more clearly labelled... But that's just me. I get lost very easily 😅
- Pushpakumara (8/5): -
- Geoff (8/5): A great place to stay - An unbeatable location on top of the downs with views to the sea. Great staff and a comfortable room.
- Robert (7/5): - Second time staying here en route to France on a solo motorcycle camping trip, this time in much better conditions. Booking.com for some reason decided I was female and had booked me into the all female dorm.... Luckily they had a private room available but I had to pay a bit more - £62 ouch!
Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, food and facilities are spot on. Would stay again
- Amy (9/5): Perfect with a group of teenagers! - Wonderful location and really friendly and helpful team.
- Christine (9/5): Very pleasant ! - Nice views Far away!
- Pelumarea Corazon II (9/5): - Staff were helpful and considerate It's quite inaccessible to go there on a weekend for travellers without a car
- Cassy (8/5): Good location , amazing staff and beautiful outdoor - Th staff was lovely
- stephen (9/5): Excellent - Very good stay thanks
- Kd Sylari (8/5): -
- Kisokumar (9/5): -
- Emma (8/5): -
- Jason (9/5): - Peaceful location, friendly staff, nice size rooms, plenty of amenities. Paper thin pillow, no plug socket near bed, no WiFi in dorms. Last one usually doesn't bother me but since the hostel is quite far out, there's not much cell signal so you can't really use mobile data.
- Matthew (5/5): The same price will get you a high-quality 3-bedroom gite in rural France - Nice setting on top of the downs with great views. Mixture of dormitory, camping pod and proper camping options. The key code provided dud not work and instead of an emergency number to the local staff, the number kept going through to other hostels, first York, then Bristol. They had to get the code and call back, but this process was long and arduous. When calling back to chase them up you kept getting through to others hostels. A ludicrous system which resulting in my 4 children being locked out until well after midnight. We eventually resorted to banging and making noise and some other guests let us in. Just have the local warden’s number for emergencies… which if you give out the correct code should be a rare occurrence. The usual over-zealous attitude to cleaning out the fridge. Throwing out anything that is unlabelled is not ethical as it wastes food. You only need to clear out stuff that is on its expiry date.
Nourriture miam top Rien
- Jo (10/5): - it was a convenient accommodation for our southdowns walk with the option of catered meals which was welcome and the use of a kitchen if you wanted it - we used the kitchen to make additional drinks
great location for walkers on the southdowns way
- Jean (8/5): - Great place
- sarah (8/5): I loved my stay and would recommend. - Spacious, friendly, welcoming staff, the facilities were great, soap and sink in room. Some children were a bit noisy.
- EVGENY (9/5): -
- olena (9/5): Good hostel. - It was our second time to stay in the hostel. There is nice breakfast in the morning, big good equipped kitchen, toys corner for children. You need a car to go to seaside or you can hike in the beautiful hills around the hostel…..
- Jakub (10/5): -
- Karim (10/5): - You You

- Karim (10/5): -
- Emma (10/5): -
- Kate (3/5): I loved the location, hostel tired, a spruce up and clean it would be the perfect stay - The location was amazing, beautiful and perfect for walkers. The staff were all lovely and helpful. Food was good, Facilities were basic but that’s fine and expected. The cleanliness, well it was dirty. The showers disgusting as blocked with stuff coming up from the drains, however this was addressed and sorted, toilets were equally as dirty, the curtains were dirty with stains all over and room generally not clean. I know that hostels are cheap and basic but surely they are cleaned ? The beds were so noisy, wooden bunks .
- Pouletaud (10/5): -
- Monica (10/5): - Cordialità, posizione e la colazione inglese
- christopher (9/5): - Very nice peaceful location

- Peall (10/5): - Atmosphere Could use new pots and pans
- Katarzyna (7/5): -
- EVGENY (10/5): -
- Lauren Renee (8/5): - There was minimal power outlets in the room for multiple people
- Kay (10/5): - It is a three mile walk from the hostel to Devils Dyke, probably the most stunningly beautiful and peaceful part of the South Downs way..In the other direction it takes around an hour to walk down to the river, where you can join the Downs Link or walk to pretty villages, su h as Steyning, Bramber or Upper Beeding.
We especially enjoyed talking to the other guests, who were all extremely interesting and friendly. The staff were very helpful and pleasant.
One of the best aspects of being in a rural location are the small unpredictable events which makes hosteling fun, for instance, the group of six young goats which has escaped and were frolicking on the path, or the plums and blackberries we found
The hostel was great, there are stunning views, especially from the balcony and the hostel has lawns behind it and overlooks a field at the front There was nothing to dislike which could be changed, but the walks in either direction can seem quite long, if you're older and have creaky knees.
- Brobbey (6/5): -
- Zane (7/5): - I like the location I didn't like the mattresses where not fully covered with bed sheets, so the skin was sticking to the mattresses and the blankets where too thick for the summer which made you extremely sweat
- Kitty (8/5): A room with an amazing view !
- vaidas (9/5): -
- Giovanni (9/5): - Colazione buona, posizione ottima
