Guest Reviews
- Monika (8/5): Excellent value - The hostel is in a great location, although it took me a while to find the entrance! The staff on reception were friendly and checked me in quickly. I only needed to stay for a few hours overnight so I remained in the lounge instead of using the dorm room, and found it comfortable enough with a good range of seating. Checking out early in the morning was a breeze too and the hostel is close enough for a nice quick walk to the train station. I did go into the room to check out the facilities, and found the layout slightly odd - very few surfaces and little space between beds. I considered storing my belongings but found out that I'd have to store everything in a wooden box/drawer under the bed and would need a padlock - I expected a locker or something along those lines instead. If someone were to check out earlier then getting their belongings would be very noisy and disruptive to others in the room. As another comment says, everything above the ground floor could do with a little TLC. Also, staff didn't really provide me with any info about the facilities (where to find the kitchen, lounge, etc.) But for £25 I was more than happy to stay here.
- Sarah (6/5): -
- James (10/5): - Great staff and location
- Christina (8/5): Restful - I had a lovely room on the top floor which was peaceful and I had a great rest. Very comfy bedding and pillow
- Anita (1/5): not good and would not recommend - not much bed, facilities, no near car park, no staff
- Sabrina (7/5): - Staff and facilities Dust under beds and skirting boards no towels you have to pay
- Virginia (8/5): I really did love the location with the convenience to Temple Meads station and centre of town. - The check in was very efficient and the mistake I'd made with my reservation was quickly resolved. My first impression of the building and its location was very positive. It was easy to find my room and bed which had beautifully crisp white bedding. The toilet and shower were Ok but a little TLC is probably about due. The seating space at the back of the building was comfortable but it would have been nicer to have had it as a quiet sensory space without the background music. The cafe at the reception was excellent, the staff were great and the coffee was very good. I didn't try the prepared food but others were eating and it looked great. The downside. The location is directly across from Bristol Waterfront and the music at the club(s) was loud, very, very LOUD and one of my room mates did complain about it to me. Fortunately I can sleep through more or less anything. However, if noise is a problem for you ask for a room at the back of the building or perhaps on a lower floor (I was on the 4th floor).
As a suggestion it might be possible to fit inner sliding windows, I guess it's a listed building but internal alterations would help noise reduction as well as energy efficiency in winter because the existing windows are not energy efficient I have lived with those in the past. My stay was the middle of May and even then the heating was in full use (too much btw)

- Andrea (7/5): - Excellent location, nice building, and very comfortable bed The building needs a bit of maintenance. For example, the light by my bed didn’t work.
- Zoe (8/5): Conveniently located on the waterfront. - Room was simple but lovely. Bed linen was crisp and comfortable. Breakfast was ok but not brilliant.
- Daniel (7/5): -
- Jorgensen (9/5): Great location and really nice rooms - The location was super central and the rooms were of a really high quality. Everything was clean and the beds were comfy. The staff are always helpful at a YHA hostel and when I asked for a spare pillow they got me one quickly. The cafe area was a nice area too, it had a lovely buzzing atmosphere and had a great menu :) It would have been useful to have a water fountain somewhere, although there were glass bottles in the cafe area which I used and the staff very helpfully filled my bottle up at the bar when I asked :)
Because it was so central, the noise from the street and bars outside was quite loud until 1am on Saturday night, however the hostel was so close to the harbour side and the city centre so it was convenient to access, and was also only a 20 min walk from Temple Meads station

- marjolaine (10/5): -
- Araminta (6/5): - Good location, convenient for a quick trip and close to the airport bus station. Bit noisey as there was an event happening in the building that didn't seem related to the hostel.
- emma (9/5): really lovely! I’d definetly come back again! - the location is excellent, the beds comfortable and clean, and so are the bathrooms, the staff are kind, understanding and polite, the access to both the hostel itself at any hour as well as the rooms is very easy.
the value is indeed worth the pricier side as it is an excellent hostel with everything once could need its a but pricey but respectably so

- Justin (7/5): Flying visit - Staff so welcoming, kind and helpful
Comfy bed with clean linens
Superbe location
Luggage room very handy The bunker I was on only had US charging which wasn't compartible with mine - the opposite bunker had both sockets and USB charging - this needs addressing! Hand dryer didn't work in all the bathrooms on my floor and there was no paper towels
- Anna (9/5): - Clean, cheap
- Kaleb (5/5): -
- Cansu (10/5): - The room and bathrooms are very clean, location is amazing, it feels like you are in the middle of everything. Kind staff, I'll definitely be back!
- Hilary (8/5): comfortable, value for money - location, value for money, comfortable lift does not go straight up to the floor I was on
- Richard (10/5): Perfect base for visiting Bristol - This is a really good base for visiting Bristol – a comfortable bed right in the city centre, with friendly staff and a great little cafe downstairs. Everything was perfect for my stay.

- sarah (9/5): Perfect location, the staff were fantastic, kitchen facilities were brilliant! -
- Prachi (9/5): The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful - Loved the location. The room was clean and comfortable. The bed was nice.
- Susan (6/5): I would stay again - Location and cafe facilities on site Heating was broken and the room was cold 🥶 really cold! I was given a hot chocolate n coffee to compensate I think it should have been full breakfast
- Huong Quynh (9/5): -
- Tracie (10/5): YHA is a great place to stay - The area of YHA as near all facilities and YHA staff are so friendly Noise from other guests

- Bhavsar (6/5): -
- Dean (9/5): - Nearly everything really I complained that the floor around my bedby window was soaking wet it was ok when I arrived i went to work and when I got back I layed my jacket and trousers by the bed side woke up in morning they were soaking wet so was the carpet the 10 pound not and my cigarettes were soaked through chucked cigarettes out I did report it when I left

- KATIE (9/5): One of the better YHA’s - great location and facilities - Beautiful heritage building fantastic location. Stayed in 6 bed female dorm which was a good size with underbed lockers and clean bedding. Kitchen was spacious and clean and bathrooms were in good condition. Would happily stay again
- KATIE (7/5): Great location, great staff - not sure the single rooms are worth extra ££ - Private room - on 5th floor with easy access to bathrooms. It was fine for a couple of nights but nothing outstanding . Bed was comfortable, bedding clean, kitchen was great size with everything you’d need. Hostel location is fantastic and highly recommend Architect bar next door for late night cheeseboards and cocktails 👍 Minor gripes room 503 - velux window wouldn’t open so it got very stuffy in the room. Small sink was great for brushing teeth etc but kept leaking onto the carpet. USB port over bed not working. All in all, it was just okay, next time I’ll save money and just stay in the dorms
- Itiose (4/5): -
- Camilla (8/5): -
- Lord Craig Kelly (1/5): Would NOT stay again - Good Location I would avoid using YHA Bristol based on my recent experience.
The stay itself was overshadowed by several frustrating issues, starting with the way payment was handled. My booking had already been paid in full, yet the hostel attempted to take payment multiple additional times afterwards. Even after I sent proof of payment three separate times, the situation was not properly resolved. Communication was also poor — emails appeared to be lost or not recorded, meaning I had to repeatedly resend the same information. Despite providing proof of payment, the hostel also refused to issue an invoice for the completed transaction.
There were also practical issues with the building that were not made clear. The lift does not go to the 5th floor. If your room is on the 5th floor, you have to take the lift to the 4th floor and then climb a full flight of stairs with luggage.
This became a bigger problem on the morning of departure. My keycard would not allow access to level 4, which meant I couldn’t reach the lift to get down to the ground floor. As a result, I had no option but to walk down five flights of stairs. This was particularly difficult as I have a bad knee, and there was no staff assistance available at the time.
Between the payment issues, poor communication, refusal to provide an invoice, and the accessibility problems, the overall experience was very disappointing. I would not choose to stay here again.
- Jean paul (8/5): - Endroit très sympa. La chambre était sommaire mais fonctionnelle, les parties communes agréables et le personnel très avenant. Le quartier est vraiment sympa et le rapport qualité/prix très bon.
- Andrii (9/5): -
- paul (9/5): Great value place to stay in the city center - Great central location . Short walk from train station loads of places to eat drink close by Nothing
- Daniela (9/5): - Siamo stati solo una notte. Personale molto gentile, struttura pulita e ottimo prezzo. Ottima posizione in centro e fermata dell'autobus a pochi metri.
- Ema (9/5): -
- Maya (10/5): -
- Shahid (8/5): Great location, but service and cleanliness need work. - The rooms were comfortable and well-maintained. The location is excellent, making it very easy to get around the city and see the local sights. The staff were quite disappointing; they had a very cold attitude and didn't seem particularly friendly or welcoming. Additionally, the bathroom facilities were not very clean, which was a bit off-putting.
- Mark (8/5): -
- Bradley (7/5): Great value for money. - Location was great. The price was fantastic can't complain at all. Would book again in a minute. Great value for small businesses. The fact that there were no towels wasn't great. As well I feel that the pricing of the food on the premises was a little high.
- Kabdulova (7/5): - I liked the location and warmth. I stayed in winter, so it was nice to enjoy a warm room after a long day at university. The lift wasn't working. The shower probably needs to be renovated, as it's not possible to take a shower under the water running from the tap over your head. Sorry:) and all the guests may need a prior notice that slamming doors at 2 a.m. isn't humane at all. Couldn't sleep any of the 3 days of my stay, unfortunately.
- Pardeep (1/5): - Nothing Reception lady was so rude .
She treated like she give me space his own house for free. Very disappointed. I never booked this place again.
- Greg (9/5): Great place to stay - Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was excellent also. Na
- Simon (9/5): Great value, comfy stay, - I stayed at the YHA in Bristol for a budget-friendly overnight work trip, and it turned out to be an excellent choice. I had a private room with its own WC and shower, which was clean, tidy, and comfortable. The location is ideal — close to the city centre and within easy reach of the station, which made travelling in and out really straightforward.
The reception staff were genuinely welcoming and helpful, and the building has plenty of space to either get some work done or simply relax, depending on what you need. At just £30 for the night, it offered outstanding value for money, and I’d happily stay there again. The only minor downside was that the Wi-Fi signal wasn’t very strong, but aside from that, it was a great. No towels but brought my own.
