Guest Reviews
- brendagP8756NS (2/5): Filthy, gross, disgusting! - Filthiest place I’ve ever seen! See for yourself in photos! Not even for 60 some dollars/nite! Got unpacked, was a LONG day, changed into pjs get comfy and started looking around, I didn’t even want my dirty clothes in the floor, packed up and left! No coffee, coffee cups or hangers. Two of us checked in and only one room key. Asked for refund even after showing front desk clerk the pictures and all I got was we’ll fix tomorrow and talk to housekeeping. What housekeeping???
Carpet was so dirty we put our shoes back on! I did check for bed bugs and thankfully I didn’t find any! Disgusting! Outdoor looks good and very deceiving.
- CheryllynC (10/5): Perfect Small Motel - There are still Perfect small old fashion motels to be found and this is one! Traveling with a pet we like to find these to have a door that goes outside from room and not have to go thru a lobby. Oakdale Motel was a treasure to find! old one story Motel that has been renovated, very clean great mattresses carpet and all relatively new. Safe area and great host who owns Motel. Need an overnight... this is a safe bet. It would be good for a few days too. Several good eating places in town too.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Smelled strongly of urine. AC was insufficient. Bath tub was filthy.
- Rosa (6/5): Mom n Pop place, so don't expect the Hilton feel - It's a mom n pop place, so you can't expect the Hilton feel from it. It needs much updating. The room could have been cleaned better (a tiny bit of dust on the headboards, back of the toilet was not cleaned, old soap left in shower, corners of bathroom needed a scrubbing). Would be nice to have more then 2 pillows on the bed and 2 body towels in the rack. The "deadbolt" wouldn't lock from the inside, but you couldn't get in with out a key. The selection for "breakfast" was very basic but wasn't bad, BUT the taste of the food horrible (tasted like the bottom of the barrel of the generic brands). But, none if those things were major issues. The owner was very kind. We didn't see any bugs, and the room was warm. We didn't have an issues. The pics are accurate, and got what we expected. It was a good/very basic stay for what it was.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Don’t do it! - They did not honor the reservation because they were overbooked. Fortunately for us! One of our friends staying had the Oakdale had bedbugs in their room!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was quiet. Staff very polite. Rooms clean and tighty beds comfortable. Good location easy to get everywhere in town.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Lots of noise during our first night. Bathroom door did not fit opening so it could not be closed fully. Other than that, it was sufficient for what we paid.
- Kjersti (10/5): Fantastic job - It was an amazing stay. The staff were good, polite to us and we enjoyed our time there.
- Megdnger (8/5): GREAT service, clean - Very clean motel, owner was very nice, and the bed was comfortable! Would definitely stay here again! They had danishes, cereal, and coffee in the morning and brochures for local attractions in the front office which was great for 2 people that don't know the area.
- Verified traveler (6/5): OAKDALE - This is an older business in need of some TLC. Bath door didn't shut correctly, shower control just spun until you could figure out temp control. Needed a good clean. Host was happy and congenial
- 341hilarys (4/5): Go elsewhere - Owner was nice, but that is the only positive thing about this hotel. Our room was so dirty. There were stains on the curtains and lamp. The floor looked like it hasn’t been vacuumed in months. They clearly hadn’t cleaned the room as there was trash and glow sticks laying on the floor. The sheets on both beds were so dirty with crumbs and hair, we ended up going to Walmart and getting blankets to sleep on. The shower water didn’t get warm and didn’t drain so you ended up standing in about three inches of water. We were desperate for a room due to the snow and I35 being closed so this was our only option but we would have been better off sleeping in our vehicle. Save your money, not worth it.
- jawnatureroad (2/5): Electricty off. - Checked into room in afterrnoon (without using it) left to do a job locally. Arrived back at motel at 10:30 pm no power in room, woke up the owner/manager and asked what was up he said no power, I asked for a refund to go to a motel with electricity and he said no. He said it's an act of god and no refund coming. Totally unacceptable I would recommend you never stay there.
- scotttow (10/5): Can't Beat It - I will always stay at this Motel when in Owatonna. The owners/staff are outstanding. They do everything to make your stay comfortable. Prices are very very reasonable. Location is great!
Not a new "snobby" motel but clean, no bugs and very comfy
- Verified traveler (2/5): Dirty, dirty and dirty. - First room assigned still dirty. Next room blood on sheets, bathroom lsmp shade on floor and thick dust on everything. Did not stay. Left and went to another motel. No call or anything from management.
- Scott (8/5): - Family owned motel. Very comfortable
- Al (2/5): Ad not close at all - Reserved a queen smoking room. Got a full nonsmoking room that want much bigger than a jail cell
- Gary (6/5): - walls are kind of thin, not real sound proof
- Don (8/5): - For the money it was good.
- slk (4/5): Uncomfortable - The bed was like a board. Pillow was almost nonexistent. Staff unpleasant. Walls in bathroom dirty
- Michael (10/5): High Value Stay - Oakdale is a motel - park in front of your room door. Surrounding area is commerical/residential mix - very safe. Nearby is a nice Hyvee grocery. My room had a good number of light fixtures. I enjoy a well-lit room. The furnishings were very nice for this level motel - Marble sink top. Honey pine dresser and table in excellent condition. New carpet. Internet router on the table in my room allowed me CAT-5 connection to internet - good bandwidth. Flat screen tv with 100 or so channels. Proprietor gave me a room upgrade to two queen bed room where my reservation was for one. There is a free continental breakfast. Pretty small, but as good for me as most chain hotels - Raisin Bran cereal and a banana is all I'd usually appreciate from those as well. Not a stay-to-impress, but at half the price of a large chain motel - an excellent value.
- chrispK5392VQ (8/5): Perfect for Hockey Tournaments - This is a nice little no frills motel for the price. It is perfect for any out-of-towners coming in for a hockey tournament as the Four Seasons Arena is literally across the street. It was quicker to walk from the hotel than to drive. I loved that. The motel is small. You could probably book the whole motel for a single hockey team. Rooms weren't perfect but they were clean and bug free. One minor negative is that the walls aren't too thick as I could hear the neighbor's TV sometimes.
- 743nancyp (6/5): Very tired old motel. - We had driven lots of hours and needed a place to stop. Saw this and took it. The room itself was pretty clean. The tub and bathroom floor needed to be scrubbed. We have stayed in a couple worse places than this one. The price was cheep and we were tired. The couple who run the motel are very nice. If you just need a place to crash it's not awful. No bugs that's a plus.
- skittles57701 (10/5): Wonderful Stay! - Very clean rooms with all the amenities you would need. Comfortable bed, refrigerator, microwave. Super helpful owner and staff. Very friendly! Great price and very quiet motel. Smaller motel, which made it very cozy. We will definitely stay there again when we pass through Minnesota!
- ScurtisHoward (6/5): Passing through - Was on my way to Northern Minnesota after leaving Tulsa and needed a simple, no frills, low cost place. I love old pull up to the door motels. It's just easier to get stuff to the room and stuff you "forgot" out of the car.
I found this place to be just fine. Wasn't the best but lord it certainly wasn't the worst.
Manager/Owner checked me in quickly and gave me my key. The room was right in front of my car. Loved it.
Clean room. Clean bed. One hard pillow. One softer and a surprisingly large tv for this type of hotel.
For the $ it's worth your time to stay here.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Clean and comfortable - Very nice hotel tucked away from the bustle. Very friendly staff and clean and comfortable rooms.
- lorirud2001 (10/5): Fantastic owners - The room was clean, great price and the owners were great. Flat screen tv, fridge and great internet access. I would stay again at this hotel. From the outside it is an older hotel but the inside is wonderful.
- John (4/5): An OK place to sleep. - Breakfast is included, but it isn't very appetizing. I chose it because it is a short walk to the HyVee so if a Minnesota Blizzard descended upon me, I'd still have access to booze and other necessities. Heat is via a boiler but I cannot be sure you can change the temperature. I didn't freeze. They take your payment in advance. We checked out early and there was a question about whether or not we were going to get a refund until I called Hotels.com.
The bed was "good enough". The TV was basic satellite, when was the last time you saw something you wanted to watch on satellite TV?
Free Wi-Fi was strong enough to download a show.
It was less than 1/2 the price of the AmericInn.
There are several food places within a couple of blocks.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The stay was pleasant and quite. Room was clean and warm.
- Katherine (6/5): A View of HyVee - I was greeted on check in with, "You shouldn't have been able to reserve a room" because there was a convention in town, but I was allowed to stay in the end. Breakfast consisted of old fruit, cereal, and pastries. I tried a banana, but it was so bruised, I had to throw it away. It's a motel and cheaper than the other hotels in town, so I did not expect a lot, but a toasted bagel sure would have been nice.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Not bad place great price
- Kathy (10/5): Quiet rest, clean room and comfort - Very comfortable bed. Kind and caring staff and extremely clean room. A good stay for a short visit but I will come back. It meets my needs!
- VillageGreenGal (8/5): Quiet and comfortable - Older style motel located off the Interstate, south of downtown Owatonna. Near Cabellas and an Outlet Mall, this inexpensive motel includes a small breakfast in the cost of your room. Only thing I wished for was a hair dryer. Room did contain a microwave and mini-fridge.
- 381daleg (2/5): Bed bugs - I woke up in the morning of July 26th to find bed bugs in both of the beds and my grandson had been bitten. I notified the manager and he asked where we stayed before his motel. I said HOME. He stripped the beds and gave me a small refund. The air conditioner was loud.
- Tulmyster (10/5): Another Great Stay - I had to pay a little bit more for my stay this time but it was worth it. I had clean room and smelled fresh. My bed was like sleeping on a cloud and they remodeled the room I was in. Micro and Fridge Flat Screen TV with HD and new vanity top on the sink and do not forget the water pressure for the shower what away to wake up. They had coffee and tea and Continental breakfast which was nice. The service they provide makes you feel at home. Property looks clean and neat on the outside too. Food Laundry and Hyvee all within walking distance and who could not afford a little more walking. I will be back and would recommend this hotel to friends and family. Hope this helps you.
- H294MPdaves (8/5): Very clean great staff - Stayed there with my wife and two kids I know everybody sees motel and shrieks but this place is very clean quiet affordable and nice I would highly recommend it the staff was very accommodating located right in the mix of Owatonna with shops and restaurants within walking distance
- 334kellyf (10/5): Derry nice - Had a great time on the 4th of July. Room was clean staff very nice. Bed was comfortable. We were right across the street from fireworks. Fruits and pastries for breakfast Would definitely come back😃
- sacarter1745 (10/5): Accessible, affordable, friendly, and dog-friendly. - The innkeepers are very friendly people. The motel is easy to find, it's very easy to park, and close to a Hy-Vee grocery/gas station and restaurants. The price was great. They like dogs, and had a small fee for my Akita, which was no problem. The room was comfortable and had fridge, microwave, good TV, and wi-fi. I'd stay here again.
- marklR1749AS (8/5): Owner of Progressive ATMs - Very clean and newly painted room that I was in. Everything worked, had a nice wall mounted 32 inch LCD television. Plenty of room inside with new furniture . The outside doesn't look like much, as it is an older hotel. But is in good shape on the inside, I think it was a very good value for your money
- 752Trudy (8/5): Room in a pinch - I helped a family in need and got them a room at this hotel. The owner was very accommodating and friendly. Room was clean even if it was outdated. Free breakfast in the morning. If you need a place to crash and dont want to spend around $100.00 a night. This is the place to stay.
- 902traceep (10/5): Great deal on a budget motel - We ended up staying here simply because we were traveling without reservations and there weren't any rooms in any of the chains for the last 50 miles. The rates were good, the room was clean and comfortable, and despite the bus stop, it was very quiet. Not only that, but the owners were wonderful people and very accommodating. Despite the fact that there is a "no pet" policy, they were very sympathetic to the fact that it was 1 am and we were traveling with pets and there weren't any other rooms to be had. For a very small and reasonable pet deposit, they allowed our pets to stay as well. There was a free continental breakfast that was very simple but fresh and much appreciated since it allowed us to get back on the road.
I definitely prefer the chain hotels, however, if I ever find myself in Owatonna again, will definitely take advantage of the hospitality at Oakdale Motel.
