I definitely would stay there again, and I will recommend the hotel to my friends and family.

Timothy (10/5): Shiretown Hotel is the place to stay in Houlton,ME - I've stayed here 4 times in the last month and half. They are very consistent. Hospitality is welcoming, service is great, rooms are clean, and quiet. Just the way I like it.

phyllis (8/5): - I got 2 room. Online it said check in before midnight. We had a 3 hour drive and it was going to be close to that so i called to let the front desk know and the man said thats fine as long as you are here before 3 am. That was nice. We was in the area for a mud run in hodgdon. The one running it said he had contacted your hotel to see if you could sponsor them and possibly give a little discount for staying there for their events. I think that would be a good idea. I believe you would get more people staying there if you did it.

Verified traveler (6/5): Rudest Desk Clerk EVER - Check-in was a nightmare. We arrived early and I went into the office to see how early we could check in. As I walked in, the older woman behind the desk was telling a caller on her phone not to book online and she would call her back. As she gave me her attention, she asked my name, and when I told her my name and she looked on her computer, I started to ask about options for early check in, she told me check-in was 2pm. Then she asked, “You reserved online?” I told her we had and she said, “2 o’clock it is then.” I didn’t even have the opportunity to explain that we had a child with a disability and no power at our home due to a storm and needed a place to rest. I have never encountered such rudeness before. Different person at the desk when we were able to check in—my husband said he was very pleasant.
Phyllis (10/5): - The property is across from iHop, which was convenient, with Pizza Hut, McDonalds and other restaurants nearby. The office staff were very polite and friendly. The room was large. I would definitely stay there again.
Phyllis (10/5): - This hotel is an older hotel, which means the rooms are larger. You can actually walk around the room without bumping into furniture! It was quiet when I was there, which was on a Thursday; I don't know how quiet it is on the weekend. I plan on going back when I'm in the area again.

Merval (4/5): Property needs major TLC - The room was extremely dated and had a funky smell to it. Fixtures were deteriorating and showed signs that they allowed smoking in the room at one time. The toilet in the bathroom had a slow leak so it would refill the tank every 10 minutes. The mattress and pillows felt like they had not been replaced in years. We left after one night and went to another hotel.

The gym and pool were both closed “due to COVID restrictions.” I found this odd since the PHE was declared “over” on May 11th. The restaurant attached the hotel was open though. I had been looking forward to a good workout and some time in pool after a long day of driving.
Verified traveler (2/5): Disappointed 😞 - The king size bed was very uncomfortable. There was No xtowels and xpillows that I requested. The pillows I did have were flat and small. I decided not visit this place again. Also the parking lot needs to fix there crater holes thought out the property. 😞

Constance (10/5): - I like that we got to park in the back close to our room. I don't think that they have breakfast available there, but it's close to restaurants that it wasn't a problem at all. Walmart is just down the road. There's a gas station across the street, Pizza Hut, Truck Stop Restaurant.

Specifically, the toilet in the bathroom and behind the ironing board was a pair of dirty underwear, clearly left by a previous guest. Again, I have stayed here plenty of times on business, but this occurrence was unsettling.

Melissa (6/5): - We stayed for 2 nights and never received maid service. When we got back to the hotel and realized this, I called the front desk and told him the situation and how we needed towels and coffee. No apologies, which was fine, but instead of bringing them to our room, he told me to come to the front desk to get them. So my husband goes to get them, and they didn’t even have towels there. The front desk guy had to go to another vacant room to get them. I found the whole situation very rude. As for the hotel room itself, it met my expectations.

Jacquelyn (6/5): - Our stay was only for one night with a late arrival and was a stop enroute to a further destination. For a place to spend a night, this hotel was just ok. It was wasn’t the cleanest or quietest hotel but served the purpose. It was overpriced for the value.
Theodore (4/5): - Got to the hotel at 9pm and was told they wouldn’t take dogs, not even in the smoking/pet rooms which I know for certain they have. Was told by the clerk and also the manager that I would have to contact Expedia for a refund and that there was Nothing they could do. I contacted Expedia and found that wasn’t thecase at all. The hotel is acting like they don’t have a clue how to refund me for this when they’re the ones in control. Poor way of doing business. I would recommend Iveys Motor Lodge down the street instead of the Shiretown any day at this point.
Melissa (2/5): Avoid staying here /don't book through Hotels.com - Booking through this website is not recommended. The hotel doesn't honor preferences -- for example, I thought I had a King but all of the King rooms and double queen rooms were assigned to longterm workers or to people who called to make a reservation directly with the motel. They assigned my husband and me to a room with two double beds. I was told that because we had booked through the website, they couldn't fix anything or move us to a different room. They also told me that had I booked directly with them, I would be paying a lower rate. Meanwhile, my daughter was also at the hotel for the same wedding. She booked directly and also didn't get the room type she requested, Sheets were scratchy. Musty hallways. Room itself -- basic. No full-length mirror. At check-in, after saying we didn't have pets with us, I was asked again.. "Are you SURE you don't have pets with you?" Checking out the owner was downright unfriendly. No good morning.. just "What do you want?".

Preston (6/5): Stingy with supplies - We had one night booked. At $131 pre tax, it was not cheap. However, when we arrived there were only 2 towels (we booked as a family of 3), and only a little bit on the toilet roll which got used up by the early morning. We also ran out of tissues (my wife may have used 2-3). We called the front desk, and her reply was, "So would you like more toilet paper and tissues now?".

Karen (6/5): An old fashioned motel - The Shiretown Inn has a very convenient location in Houlton, but it is definitely a pretty tired place. The rooms are drab, short on electrical outlets, furniture is old and scarred, etc. They are not offering any coffee or breakfast now, although their web site says that they do breakfast.

Alice (4/5): Keep driving!!! - This motel is old, dank and musty!! We stayed two nights and spent both sleeping on top of the bedcovers. Everything smelled musty and the carpet looked like something out of a horror movie. Thankfully we had brought a couple of our own blankets. The mattress was super uncomfortable to say the least. We couldn’t wait to get out the next morning to get some fresh air but when we opened the door to the parking lot we were greeted with the smell of spray paint!! There was a woman busily spraying a broken down old van right in the parking lot. The place is not worth the money we paid for sure. After driving 300 miles for the day we weren’t expecting anything fancy but something clean and comfortable would have been awesome!
