- richard (8/5): - Rooms were big and clean, parking is easy, staff was friendly and helpful. Onsens were easy to use and huge. Beds are incredibly firm even by Japanese standards, breakfast was decent but not that great compared to other places we've stayed for similar prices.
- Matthew (8/5): All good. Not a bargain. - Onsen was big and hot. Room was big. Very close to train station and the only convenience store in town that was open in evenings. Beds were great. Staff were great. Had heavy snow the night before we checked out and they let us check out late so I could have a second visit to snow monkey park on checkout day. Definitely not the cheapest place we stayed in Japan.

Никаких конкретных претензий к отелю у нас нет. Просто мы ожидали совершенно не то, что получили и были очень сильно разочарованы. При планировании поездки в Японию мы включили один день в традиционном онсене - мы долго выбирали, читали отзывы, знали, что надо ехать в горы, иначе настоящих термальных источников не будет - и запланировали, что из Киото поедем через Нагойю и старинные деревни Магомэ и Цумаго в Ryokan Hakura с традиционным онсеном. Мы представляли себе онсен как некое открытое пространство, где ты любуешься природой и звездами, лежа в большом чуть ли не природном или близком к природному бассейне с горячей минеральной водой. Одним словом, мы представляли себе то, что показывают в японских фильмах, когда герои едут на горячие источники. Хвалебные отзывы о Ryokan Hakura укрепили нашу уверенность, что мы получим именно то, что представляем. К тому же многие отмечали любезность персонала, которая тоже хорошо вписывается в традиционные представления об онсенах. Одна ночь в Ryokan Hakura стоила нам в 2-3 раза дороже всех остальных ночей в Японии (начиная с традиционных отелей в старинном японском стиле и заканчивая современными отелями), и мы, тратя столь большие деньги, считали, что должны получить что-то восхитительное. Но нет. По приезде хозяйка все подробно объяснила: в онсен ходят в традиционной одежде, ее можно взять там же, где полотенца - с этим проблем нет. Онсенов в отеле два, туда надо приходить своей компанией и закрываться ото всех остальных посетителей. У нас сразу возник вопрос: если постояльцев много, нет никакого места для записи на конкретное время и никто не ограничивает нас в пребывании в онсене, то как туда вообще попасть? Ведь, наверняка, там очереди будут. Часами ждать, что ли? Мы решили разобраться сами и скоро сами поняли, почему очередей в эти онсены не бывает. Выяснилось, что у нас не включены ни завтрак, ни ужин (мы хотели заказать какой-то прием пищи, но, видимо, забыли, поскольку цена отеля и без еды была заоблачной (он стоил в два-три раза дороже, чем отели, где были включены завтраки, причем в некоторых местах на выбор предлагалось до 25 блюд)). Однако хозяйка нам не предложила заказать ни ужин, ни завтрак и вообще создавалось ощущение, что мы ей не нравимся - но это, возможно, субъективная оценка. В онсены очереди не было. Потому что это были деревянные ванны примерно два на три шага в длину и ширину в закрытой комнате с наглухо заколоченными деревянными ставнями окнами (во втором онсене чуть-чуть можно было увидеть небо, в первом - всё заколочено). Вода очень горячая - больше 40 градусов, к ней долго привыкаешь. Никакого ощущения термальных источников, запаха серы и прочего не было. То есть это просто личная деревянная ванна в замкнутом пространстве, в которой комфортно поместилось бы человек 6-7. Разумеется, долго там делать нечего, поэтому и очередей нет. Зато есть все приспособления для инвалидов и даже колясочников. Мы не поехали утром в традиционный парк обезьян, куда ходит автобус, а сразу направились в Токио с полным ощущением выброшенных на ветер денег. Особенно учитывая, что в Киото за гораздо меньшие деньги в отеле был СПА, который ничем не отличался от "онсена", разве что пол был не деревянный, а кафельный.
- Greta (7/5): Comfortable and well-located, but unattended with a hospital-like atmosphere. - Property was clean and well-equipped with amenities in the room. The onsen was lovely and provided yukata and geta were great. Well-located close to station, convenience store, and local restaurants. Tatami area of room was lovely. Customer service left us a little unsettled; property seems essentially untended, and we only encountered staff twice, after ringing counter bell for assistance, across the three days. Heavy emphasis to be placed on the accessibility aspect of the property; it seems to be a converted hospital or aged care facility of some kind, which would be brilliant for those with accessibility needs but combined with the unattended desk and unsettling customer service, created an air of sterility and discomfort which led us to question the price point, and the traditional ryokan categorisation of the property. Beds very hard, so keep in mind if that’s not your preference!

- Philip (8/5): Great traditional Ryoken - The staff were amazing; friendly, helpful and spoke good English. They provided a number of recommendations for things to do during our stay. It's a beautiful old building with traditional Japanese decor. The rooms offer a fantastic insight into traditional Japanese living, however the low beds may not be for everyone. The breakfast was the best that we had in Japan. The private onsen is brilliant and again offers great insight into the lifestyle of these mountain towns. Traditional yukata and slippers on offer for wearing inside the property. It's very close to Yudanaka station where you can get the bus to the snow monkey park. Whilst it's very close to the station, it is a steep hill to climb with suitcases in the snow. The onsen is also the only way to take a shower and it's communal.

- Sheridan (9/5): Superb - We loved the fact it was a traditional room with a tatami mat flooring and the traditional robes (Yukata). The sitting area in our room was so lovely and spacious and everything was so clean. Our room had two single beds so I’m not sure if this is common even for couples. It was only a 5min walk from the station but just be aware to get back to the station you walk up a steep hill. We were ok as we’re fit and only had small cases but harder if you have large cases. We also found some lovely restaurants near by so for us everything was in walking distance. The large American Drug store was not far away and had everything so we were happy to grab some bananas for breakfast and alcohol with our dinner. The private onsens were a nice bonus too. The negative was the beds..we both found them very hard but the pillows were soft. And the bed coverings were outdated but otherwise all good. Would have been nice to have a double room when travelling as a couple.

- Scott (1/5): Poor value for money.. would not recommend.. - Not much This is my first bad review for many hotels around the world. No staff on site at check in. Was charged extra cost for late check out, even though bag was packed and left in the room. Staff could easily take bag out if the room was urgently needed for cleaning and next guest. It seemed the owner was only interested in charging the extra costs, rather than listening to our situation. The hotel is very expensive for what is provided . More information would have been appreciated at the time of check in. We were only told by the staff who finally arrived from across the road that it was his day off. Attitudes need to be adjusted to each travelers situation. But the owner wished to insist on the extra payment and hence has now recieved this review..

Must try breakfast and dinner - although its a bit pricey but it exceed the value of money. The ryokan is very close to the train and bus station - quite convenient to go around. Friendly services also make us felt welcome and comfortable. Although it is close to the station, if you have luggage, do expect some down hill / uphill walk which quite challenging when the road covered with snow/ice. I wish if the ryokan provide shutter services for ease travelers like us.

- Andrew (8/5): - It's a decent place to stay. I'd say about 3.5 stars out of 5. Downsides are an older building, and water in the onsen too hot for me personally to tolerate (definitely seemed a few degrees warmer than other onsens I've visited). The Wifi also was poor, being slow and frequently losing connection. This ryokan, on the plus side, is very close to the train station and a convenient jumping off spot to visit the Snow Monkey Park. It can be walked, although I suspect most people will take the bus.

- Monika (10/5): Fantastic ryokan with a luxurious onsen experience - This ryokan is so charming, clean, the staff are very friendly and helpful, the onsen is fantastic. We loved that you can book the onsen for private use during the afternoons before 7pm. We hope to come back to Ryokan Hakura!

- Tracy (7/5): Different experience from any accommodation I’ve had before.. - The private Onsen was Devine. I’ve never used an Onsen before. Our room had a hospital bed as part of our bedding. It was awfully hard and felt like you were in hospital. The futon rooms were the best.

Shino made our stay there the perfect Ryokan experience. The town was very easy to navigate, and the snow monkeys were short taxi ride away. I would highly recommend this location.

- Libby (10/5): Great for local atmosphere - This place was our stepping stone to see the Snow Monkeys. We wanted to experience a total Onsen and we weren't disappointed. The food and service to detail was amazing. The bathing rituals were a laugh for us. Being 5'7" tall, I found the wash basin very low and challenging to say the least. Our host drove us up to the snow monkey park and also to the train at the end of our time there.

- Verified traveler (8/5): 清潔なバリアフリー宿 - 1泊素泊まりでしたがチェックインチェックアウト時、親切な対応をしていただいた。施設はとても清潔で、バリアフリー対応されています。からだが不自由な方と宿泊される際はストレスフリー、快適に過ごせるでしょう。お部屋は半分洋室、半分和室で、布団の上げ下げの必要がなく、寝る部屋と別にゆっくりできる和室があってよかった。隣との壁が薄く、話し声や電気をつけるときの壁を伝う音が良く聞こえたが、不快な程ではありませんでした。また機会があればとまりたい。
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent onsen near all. - Simply perfect stay in a traditional onsen ryokan. The Onsen bath was a little hard to get used to (whilst the rooms are massive and there are toilets, it is a traditional ryokan and so you bathe in the onsen). Even my super conservative sister got used to it and we all loved the experience. The staff are really helpful and even drove us to the station when we nearly missed our ski bus.
- Katherine (10/5): Snow Monkeys and Perfect Japanese Hospitality! - Really recommend this place for easy Snow Monkey access and simply awesome Japanese Hospitality! We had two rooms - a Western and Japanese style. Both really nice and big. The onsen is awesome and the staff couldn't be more helpful. Super easy to access from the station (5 minute walk). Also, the dinners were some of the best we had in our 2 weeks in Japan. Super recommend.
