• Michael (2/5): - I had to leave after 1 night. This is in a terrible part of town. The street vendors and people were playing music super load until 3 AM. The room was right on the street and the other room they tried to give me had windows that wouldn't close w large gaps. Terrible is all that comes to mind.

• Anita (4/5): The El Rey was close walking distance to see the Carnival, but would not book here because of disco. - The restaurant that is advertised does not exist or did not while we were there on a Saturday and Sunday. No local places to go for coffee or breakfast as the other eating establishments are at least at 10 minute walk away. there is a disco Teck in the basement of this building, which plays extremely loud music until 2 am, so bring ear plugs and they barely work. Not sure if the other rooms are any quieter.

• Jo (8/5): A Rey of Sunshine in La Vega - The staff were very helpful and the room was large, with a fridge and everything I needed. The restaurant upstairs is a nice place to eat, and the food was good. The wifi doesn't work in the rooms, so you have to go to the lobby or up to the restaurant to use the internet. The hotel's a bit of a walk from town too, but you can take motorbike taxis if you like.

The hotel is located in a place where the neighbors had very loud music and it could be heard inside the room, very annoying. We woke up at 7:00 am with the clarity of the sun because the curtains are very, very clear. The floor in the room was a bit sticky.

• E L (4/5): Too big of a name for the services - The name Hotel El Rey (The King Hotel) is way too big for the quality/services of the establishment. At check in, toilet was not properly cleaned. In the evening had problems with the A/C in which took them 2 hours to get the correct remote control to make it work. Problem with their hot water specially when you want to use the shower. If you get a room in the main floor (lobby) specifically room number 1, be prepared for all the noise specially when people are coming up the stairs. Don't rely too much in getting Wifi from your room, unless you are in the lobby. By the second day I had enough and was transferred to a bigger room in the lower level in which there was no Wifi whatsoever.

After letting the front desk know a few times we were given another room and were told that the room they were moving us to was more expensive and the exception was being made as if we were the ones at fault that there amenities were not functioning, the room is definitely over priced not worth it.

• Mike (6/5): Better Potential - The room we had was clean. There were no bugs. There was hot water in the shower. It was relatively quiet. The platform bed was a little worn so it was very creaky. There is a TV and a refrigerator in the room. The air-conditioning was ice-cold. The only issue we had was when the guy at the front desk got us a car service, the car service guy overcharged us. Instead, go across the street to La Vega Car Service and pre-arrange a fair price for a trip before agreeing to the car service; we did that the second time and it worked out. But aside from that the stay was pleasant.
• Verified traveler (4/5): Make sure you have your receipt... - The hotel was a decent hotel...and from my understanding the best in the area. We booked a Senior Suite...and ran into all sorts of problems. First of all...I had to argue with the front desk...and get on the phone with Hotels.com...for about an hour before getting the room that I booked and paid for. They tried to give me a room about two grades below what was booked. It is not fun to check in and spend an hour hanging out in the hallway and arguing before you can get into your room. Once we did get into our room, it was a nice room, but nothing I would call a "suite". It was a very comfortable King bed, a huge bathtub (big enough for 4), a small table, and a couch all crammed into one small room. The other huge disappointment was a car service (called for us by the hotel) completely ripped us off. They offered us a ride to Santo Domingo for a price. Took our money and then piled their entire family in the car with us. It was worse than taking the bus. Then they did not even take us to our hotel in Santo Domingo as promised...so beware of cars recommended by the hotel. Other issues we had was the restaurant not being open every day. Got up for breakfast...and it was the cook's day off. There is quite a bit of street noise, and noise from a night club (I believe it is the hotel's, but I am not sure).

• Wes (4/5): Nice, clean room wasted by overwhelming noise. - My wife and I stayed at Hotel Rey for four nights, three of which included the weekend. The hotel is located in the down town area, which was convenient for us since our trip was business related. The room was nice and clean, and the staff friendly and competent. Apparently there is a night club on the ground floor of the hotel, with extremely loud music and karaoke filling the air from about 9:00 pm until after 3:00 am every night, including Sunday night. The noise was so loud that it kept us from being able to sleep until after 3:00 am. When we talked with the administration about this, they were friendly and understanding, but unable to do anything about it. They suggested we write to the owners of the hotel, which we did but got no reply. We asked for a discount, which we did not get. We liked the facilities, but will never return to this hotel nor can we recommend it to anybody. The noise was just too bad at night.

The room for 4 was skinny, the service at the restaurant was very long, le wifi very far and the night very noisy. And they took extracharge because we were more than 2 in a room for 4 ??? I hate this hôtel !!!
