This was our second visit to this family-owned Relais & Châteaux property in North Hatley, Québec, and it reminded us exactly why we returned. Even during what is likely the sleepiest time of year in the Eastern Townships, the staff were nothing short of alert, warm, welcoming, and accommodating. The hospitality here feels genuine rather than scripted — something that is increasingly rare. One of the highlights of our stay was the spa and thermal experience. Moving between the sauna, cold plunge, and outdoor heated pool overlooking Lake Massawippi was deeply restorative — the kind of quiet luxury that encourages you to slow down and truly relax. Another standout was an evening spent in the Tap Room, hosted by Alain, whose sincerity, warmth, and jovial spirit made the experience unforgettable. His passion for wine and effortless hospitality created an atmosphere that felt both intimate and celebratory. The food throughout our stay was exceptional, thoughtful and beautifully prepared, and our accommodations in the Wolfe Cottage were simply outstanding — elegant, comfortable, and perfectly situated for both privacy and lake views. Manoir Hovey manages to achieve something rare: refined luxury without a trace of pretension. It feels personal, authentic, and deeply welcoming. We left already thinking about when we might return.

The food is outstanding & they served it im our room for all meals in a timely manner. Sometimes bringing us each serving individually to insure it was at it's best to eat. The room was beautiful, bed very comfortable & the fenced deck was perfect for our little pup. We highly recommend to all!
- domenikos (10/5): Charming week-end getaway at Manoir Hovey - We spent a beautiful week-end at Manoir Hovey. Being our first time there, we were given a tour of the property, which works much better than the verbal description :) Check-in and check-out were quick and efficient; our car was parked next to our room and the luggage was unloaded while we were on the tour. The room itself (33 - Wolfe) was bright and spacious, looking at the lake; bathroom was spotless and well equipped. Both the Tap Room bistro and the Hatley restaurant had great food, but real kudos go to the chef for the spectacular Discovery menu: from the duck egg with caviar, through the trout and scallops, crowned by the bison Rossinni, all paired with great skill by Jack, the sommelier. Chapeau, chef Vachon! The spa is modern, well-maintained, and the outdoor pools were just perfect on a sunny February day! All the staff was helpful, prompt and made us feel at home. Thank you for a charming week-end! We warmly recommend the Manoir Hovey.
- 786ernests (10/5): Hovey - Highly Recommended! - It was time for some solo r+r and Hovey is the hotel I routinely visit for such a purpose. The staff and dining are excellent and the spa experience is the "icing on the cake". I even managed to read a memoir by a young lady who spent her summers in the area. This property is highly recommended by this routine guest. Enjoy!
- TravelingJ2014 (6/5): Inconsistent - There are some lovely points about Manoir Hovey, but it can be best described as inconsistent. It was a friends trip who travel frequently and our expectations did not match. The check in process was okay, but would have expected a tour around the property to explain where everything was located (pool, spa, tennis courts, gym - found out about the tennis courts and gym in our third day) prior to escorting us to our cottage (Heron Suite) which is in a lovely location away from the main hotel. We were not advised about walking paths from the main hotel up to the suite, later discovering it rather than walking around fair distance around via the road, that there was a much simpler route. The Heron Suite can be best described clean but forgotten. Decor is tired, there is a burn through one of the drapes from a previous guest, furniture is well worn. Kitchen is missing items (ie two king sized bedrooms) and only two forks, no bowls, two plates. Coffee pods/tea were set up for two. We attempted to use room service, but quickly ascertained that it was really not up to Relais & Chateaux standards. Having clearly mentioned that the cheese platter and charcuterie plate was serving three people, they delivered two sets of cutlery and a dismal looking offering from the charcuterie (image attached). At that point we decided to make a run for the local Metro grocery store in Magog for the remainder of our stay, which has an amazing selection of cheese/pate. We dined once for breakfast at the Tap Room and twice for dinner. The last night we had great service, first two times were inconsistent. The absolute highlight of our stay at Manoir Hovey was the GEM of a spa. Services were excellent, enjoyed a massage and a facial, and the facial was one of the best I have ever had!!! And the spa is beautiful.

We felt the cleanliness of the room was excellent, but the patio needed a good wipe down and my clothes got dirty sitting on the patio furniture. We were surprised we were not approached even once while we were at the pool for several hours to see if we needed anything. Overall a good experience, but didn’t live up to my expectations for a relais and chateaux property (compared to others I have stayed at).
- bragghouse (10/5): Wonderful escape! - A lovely get away! For utmost privacy we recommend room 48/Heron Suite. Up on top of hill, we used stairs or walked but staff is happy to transport you. Outdoor hottub and semi private pool were great amenities. Also allows for easier parking which was a bit more crowded near main building. Staff was always willing to assist. Be aware of day trippers which do add to volume of folks dining and walking, and I highly recommend a conversation with concierge prior to arrival to ask about what is possible or you might not know and book everything in advance as they were very busy. We had a lovely day trip with Vincent and a pontoon boat ride with champagne and driver (Ben) which were highlights of our stay. We chatted with many guests who return year after year. Eating at the pub was our favorite to take advantage of outside dining, staff was always lovely.
- Q4584ZCdeboraha (10/5): A Very Lovely Mini Get-Away at the Beautiful Hovey Manor - My husband and I spent two glorious days at Hovey Manor. The resort, situated on beautiful Lake Massawippi, is absolutely stunning. Every public room is carefully curated. Our room overlooked the lake and had a large balcony. The room was nicely appointed with lots of amenities. Hotel management and staff are extremely welcoming. Particular mention goes to Khalid, who upon learning that this was our first visit, personally took us on a tour of the property and then brought us to our room. If we needed to know where something was, the staff didn’t just tell us where it was, they took us there. The gym, while not clearly marked, has good quality equipment. We ate at both of the resort’s restaurants. The Tap Room has a lovely terrace. We ate outside with the magnificent view of the lake. For the most part, the service and food were very good. It took quite a long time to be seated, but once we were at our table, the wait staff were very attentive. The food was very good, but not great. While I thoroughly enjoyed the scallops, my husband was disappointed with the lamb, that was unevenly cooked. However, our meal at Le Hatley was extraordinary. Every dish was unique and with just one bite of each, we knew we were experiencing something very special. The fois gras appetizer and the scallop appetizer were truly excellent, as were the veal duo entree and the sterling beef. The cheese course was divine. The wine list has a good selection of wines by the glass. The servers were very professional and charming. All in all, perfect August weather, a beautiful resort, and delicious food, made for a wonderful mini vacation in the beautiful Eastern Townships.

- Elizabeth (10/5): Beautiful and relaxing getaway - Manoir Hovey is a wonderful, relaxing getaway. The food is excellent and the spa is beautiful. Our room in the main house was small but extremely comfortable and well appointed. The large furnished deck off the room had exquisite views of the lake and perfectly manicured gardens. There are two restaurant options and both are fabulous. The breakfast is abundant and while they say the buffet is a continental breakfast it has a lot to choose! The spa was my favorite part of the resort. It is so peaceful and the setting is beautiful. I had three treatments during my stay and each one was excellent. Meghan is a gifted therapist with amazing technique and a lovely disposition. All of the staff was helpful and pleasant. Whether you are seeking a quite, elegant getaway or an active outdoor escape, Manoir Hovey is the place to go!

The food was absolutely superb. Our room, the building where we were and all of the amenities were first rate. The lake is gorgeous. Each member of the staff was welcoming and helpful in every way. This resort deserves the accolades it has received over the years.

- BillieBrighton_UK (10/5): Beautiful, peaceful hotel - Lovely chic hotel in peaceful setting. The staff are very professional, friendly and helpful and our room was comfortable and well appointed. Unfortunately, we were next to the gym which was noisy at times but it shut at 8pm so didn't bother us at night. As mentioned in previous reviews, the air conditioning unit was very noisy so we didn't have it on at night, but this did make the room very warm. We ate at the Bistro on our first night, which was really excellent although very pricey. There is a nice cafe in nearby North Hatley where we had breakfasts as I draw the line at paying $50 pp for breakfast! A lovely couple of nights but I suspect most of their clients are much wealthier than we are!

From boats, paddle boards/boats, kayaks, board games, tennis, yoga, and other activities, you wont be bored. Love that there are 2 great elegant restaurants onsite, small bar, free great coffee in the lounge areas, and lots of beautiful places to hang out. Love to be able to choose from swimming in the lake, pool, or spa baths. Rooms are comfortable and tastefully decorated. Cons: While the quality of the restaurant food was great, I didn't feel it was worth the exhuberant price. I loved the cuisine and service but I have also had better food for much cheaper elsewhere in Montreal. Additionally, the walls are thin and you can hear everything going on in the hallway. Bring earplugs. From the hallway you can also hear everything going on in each of the rooms. Some sound proofing would be nice.

The bathroom was decent. Not special. The view of the lake is beautiful. The pool area is very relaxing. No kids. The spa was amazing. The area is well done and has everything you might want. Cold pool. Hot tub steam. Sauna. And the treatments were excellent and not overly expensive for a resort.
- Hamish1111 (10/5): Classy and discreet - We were returning here after a wonderful visit in 2020 and we were certainly not disappointed. This is a very classy, but discreet, hotel. Although we booked the simplest room category, it was very comfortable indeed with many thoughtful touches, high quality products and felt very homely. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly and the grounds were delightful for sitting and enjoying the peace and quiet and the wonderful views of the lake. The spa and heated outdoor pool were new since our last visit and are very well done indeed. It is worth booking a slot in the spa as it is so relaxing and peaceful, as well as being extremely high quality. We dined at the Tap Room and enjoyed a superb meal with excellent service. Breakfast was also a delight - whilst the choices on the buffet are not huge, everything is very high quality and the made-to-order hot dishes are the best we’ve ever experienced at a hotel. We will definitely return!

- jimryane (4/5): Why we won't be returning - On our recent third visit in Manoir Hovey, my wife and I decided it will be our last due to the issues we encountered this time. We had booked three-nights in May 2025 and were thoroughly looking forward to our visit due to the previous excellent experiences including choosing this hotel for our 25th wedding anniversary in 2018. And we live in Toronto, so it is a long drive, but we always found the experience at the hotel was worth the distance. This visit however there were: ROOM CHALLENGES In our fist room a very loud faulty air conditioning unit in the room next to ours made it impossible for us to sleep in our room. After two visits from the front desk, we were given no other choice but to move to another room at 10.30pm, which was frustrating and stressful for us. Even though asking the guests in the other room to turn off their faulty A/C at night (given it was going to be 8C) would have been an easier solution. In our second room, the A/C from the room above us was on all day and evening until 11:00pm each night, making it difficult to enjoy our patio and we had to close our windows to mitigate the noise while their A/C was running incessantly. I don’t understand why Manoir Hovey have noisy A/C units not usually encountered at a hotel of this caliber. RESTAURANT The first morning, we were looking forward to a nice breakfast, despite being very expensive. However, we had to wait close to 45 minutes for our breakfast, the A La Carte choices were limited, and we ended up having, what could only be described as a mediocre breakfast costing a great deal. This also was not what we experienced during our previous two visits. As an alternative, we went into the local village and found a nice diner to have breakfast for the remaining two mornings FINAL THOUGHTS I have twice contacted the hotel regarding these issues and both my emails have been ignored by the management clearly demonstrating they were not going to respond to our concerns regarding our experience. Therefore, we’ve decided we won’t be returning to pay a premium for an upscale hotel experience professed to be provided by Manoir Hovey and not receive it.

- R291TVbrianm (10/5): Classic Old World Inn with Five Star Restaurant and Incredible Service - We first visited this classic Inn over two decades ago and had very fond memories of the charm, hospitality and outstanding food. We recently returned to celebrate my wife's birthday, knowing that the place had undergone some significant additions and renovations. Not to worry, as Hovey remains every bit as wonderful as when we first discovered it. Our room overlooked the stunning Lake Massawippi and was both beautifully appointed and ultra cozy. The grounds are simply amazing and the addition of outdoor lawn chairs surrounding gas firepits amongst their spectacular gardens is a nice touch. The new outdoor pool and hot tub adjacent to the beautiful shorefront spa is another great addition. But the highlight of our trip remains the fabulous restaurant and equally wonderful staff. We had another memorable stay and will definitely return in the near future.

- KPS61 (4/5): Setting 10, experience 3. - My partner recently treated me to a stay at Hovey Manor on Lake Massawippi in the Eastern Townships in Québec. This was particularly special for me as we had both been summer visitors to Lake Massawippi in our youth. The hotel looks particularly charming on the website so I had high hopes for our stay. The welcome at the hotel reception was warm and friendly, the receptionist was Québécoise and showed us around the hotel telling us about its history. After settling in our room, we decamped to the Tap Room for a late afternoon drink. The bar was empty so we were able to get a table overlooking the lake. The bar has a rustic feel with a certain charm and I can imagine with the doors open to the terrace overlooking the lake that it must be rather wonderful in the summer months. The waitress who served us was from France, the first of many to follow, and approached us to settle our bill before we had finished our drinks. We both assumed that the bar was closing because of this but she then told us that we should let bar know if we wanted another drink which completely baffled us. We arrived for dinner in the formal dining room at 8 which was half full when we arrived. There was a slightly strange stilted vibe in the dining room with light jazz playing in the background. If we didn’t know that Hovey Manor was part of the Relais & Chateaux group before dinner, we were left under no doubt by the time we had ordered. The succession of French waiters was “impressive” as they explained the long list of surcharges, the different elements of the menu including a section about their butter and of course the “service de pain” finishing with a power point presentation in lieu of a traditional wine list. This seemed unnecessarily pretentious to us rather than charming, ultimately making us rather ill at ease instead of relaxed. In contrast, we enjoyed the food that we ordered. Following the amuse bouche and the elaborate serving of the bread, we had starters of foie gras poêlé and pétoncles, followed by morue (cod) and pintade. The Cornish hen (pintade) was outstanding as were the scallops. My partner was surprised to find that the foie gras had not been properly de veined. We also had dessert but this was a bit sickly and overly sweet. As the dessert menu was very limited, we struggled to find something we both wanted. The food was very good but commensurately expensive. The next day after a so- so breakfast in the stuffy dining room, we went for a swim in the lovely lakeside pool and sat in the hot tub which also overlooks the lake. It was a cold beautiful day so that was very enjoyable. We discovered that we had to pay $50 each to use the other spa features like the thermal circuit. The spa was completely empty which was not surprising given this surcharge for guests. I only discovered after leaving the pool that the surcharge is waived if you have a treatment. Essentially, we left feeling rather flat. We had expected a cosy inn in a beautiful setting which is what it looks like. The French formality, emphasised by the proliferation of staff from France, completely robs the experience of any authenticity. We definitely would not go back or recommend it.

- Beyond_YXU (10/5): The Pinnacle of Relais & Chateaux Hospitality - We enjoyed a third visit to Manoir Hovey for three magical nights over the New Year’s Eve holiday. It was our first time seeing the new wing, new spa, and renovations to the pool. It was also our first time staying during full-on winter conditions. It was like something out of a storybook. We were warmly welcomed at check-in, delighted to discover that our Virtuoso booking had merited us an upgrade to a Grand Luxury Lake Room in the new lodge building. While not as convenient as rooms in the main building, the lodge offers its own sumptuously appointed lobby lounge (including a wine dispensing machine!), and rooms have soaring ceilings, lots of natural light, and sweeping views. Our room was an end unit, so it had views in two directions: the woods and the lake. The décor is of a very high standard—more residential than commercial—and everything appears to have been chosen with great care and consideration. We were delighted to be welcomed with notes from management and our travel agency, some delicious sweets, a generous basket of local gourmet treats, and a New Year gift of refillable Manoir Hovey branded water bottles. It was one of the nicest welcomes we’ve received anywhere. It was easy to unpack given the room’s generous closet and drawer storage. The bathroom was huge, with a spacious walk-in shower, stand alone soaking tub, and double vanity. Towels, robes, and L’Occitane amenities were of the highest quality. Although it was a little cold to sit outside for very long, we enjoyed the furnished terrace with its commanding view of the lake and the property. In the summer or autumn, this would be spectacular! Over the three nights we enjoyed room service dinner twice and a formal NYE menu at the Tap Room. We also had breakfast in the main dining room each morning. As always, the quality of the cuisine offered at Manoir Hovey is exceptional, and the service was gracious and professional. They put so much effort into creating a special experience for their guests on NYE. It was a memorable night. We purchased day passes to use the water features at the spa, and it was absolute magic. A heavy snowfall had started that morning, so sitting outside in the hot tub, or swimming gentle laps in the heated pool, while fat flakes swirled around us, was an incredible treat. When it came time to check out, we were surprised and impressed that staff had cleaned the snow from guests’ cars early in the morning. Such a thoughtful gesture! It’s easy to see why Manoir Hovey was won so many industry accolades recently. It has always been one of Canada’s finest hotels, but after the recent additions and renovations, it has no peer. We can’t wait to return soon.

- ElizabethA266 (10/5): A lovely place during a tough time - I just want to thank Manoir Hovey and its staff for their kindness and forbearance during our recent visit. My husband and I wanted to get out of the country for a bit over Jan. 20, and Manoir Hovey looked like a beautiful place for a respite. The trip was rather snakebit (pro tip: Don't fly Air Canada), and we got in very, very late. Despite our overdue arrival, the young man at the desk was beyond helpful, and our room was just stunning. The view over the lake was so lovely and peaceful. The restaurants were incredible, and the spa was just magnificent. It was an amazing experience to sit in the hot tub looking up at the stars -- and quite exhilarating to get out of the tub and dash through the very cold air to put on our (frozen) robes. I have to admit, I was not at my best during this trip. I felt sad, angry, frightened, and emotionally raw. But the staff tried their best to help me to enjoy our stay in this lovely place, and I am very grateful. We definitely want to return sometime when I'm feeling less fraught. :)

It is soo beautiful, high ceiling and draps along with a king size bed and fireplace made it a very cozy stay. The details to the little things, i will not spoil the surprise. My friend Pam and I are planning to go back in the fall. And that's not also talking about the spa experience..omg.
- 786ernests (10/5): Relax! Relax! - After a very busy December and January - it was time for a short getaway at Manoir Hovey. I have been visiting here for about 20 years and it has become part of my routine when I need to just get away and relax without getting on a plane. As usual - my stay was perfect and I left totally re-energized. Where else can you leave your room and walk downstairs to a Michelin star restaurant? The new Spa facility is excellent and worth the visit. I actually dined in the Tap Room (the on-site pub) one night and the food was excellent. Thank you Stafford family and your employees for ongoing and excellent hospitality!

However this time we were even more pleased with our stay than ever before. As a professional Chef of many years I can honestly say that the food and service at the Hovey are very special and a one of a kind experience that is very relaxing while maintaining utmost efficiency . Virtually every staff member was professional and operated in a way that really made us feel very comfortable. The cuisine and presentation as well as the amazing local ingredients using skillfully out sourced ones are truly awesome paired with wines that were thoughtfully selected . They have a truly world class wine list.. The food and hospitality will be remembered always and we look forward to our next stay.
- Marcelo (10/5): Excellence - The area is beautiful, the room is excelent. Probably the most beautiful and well equipped room I have ever stayed. My only complain about the room is that it was too bright during the night, because there was light coming from the small window over the door. I can't sleep well when there is light in the room. The main building is well decorated and I really enjoyed the dinner and the breakfast. The spa area, swiming pool was excellent too.

J'ai pu manger malgré l'heure très tardive de mon arrivée et quitter un peu plus tard le lendemain. On a géré mes bagages jusqu'à installer un mini-frigo dans ma chambre et y ranger ce que j'avais de perissable. J'ai pu profiter du soa et de la piscine tardivement le lendemain comme j'en avais pas eu la chance à l'arrivée. J'ai eu un up grade et ma fête à été également souligné par de petites attentions. J'ai adoré mon expérience malgré la malchance de la journée

From the warm welcome (on a frosty January evening) at check in with the gracious receptionist, to the kind gentleman during breakfast who gently helped with my French and even replied to my few words in Vietnamese, every interaction was a genuine pleasure. The sommelier Jessica, to the concierge Nidal- gosh I wish I could name each of these gracious individuals, who made our 21st anniversary unforgettable. The staff's impeccably trained, competent, and evident happiness reflect the remarkable leadership behind this superb resort. As you'd expect with an award winning Manior Hovey the rooms were lovely, spacious and spotless. It would be impossible to find even a tiny speck of dust. We enjoyed every meal at the Manior. Another outstanding detail to note: Chef Alexandre Vachon has created delightful and surprising combinations leveraging the unique characteristics of Quebec. I made the mistake of not fasting for two days before staying at Manior Hovey - but I will not make the same mistake again! The spa and couples massage were excellent. I'm running out of ways to say A M A Z I N G! Bravo! Well done to everyone at Manior Hovey; you are appreciated!

Thank you to the check in staff who were amazing! We did the thermal experience which was lovely but there is also a pool and hot tub that you can use without the spa.

- kimcC8304KZ (10/5): Winter Wonderland - My husband and I arrived on my birthday and stayed here three nights and it was everything we could've imagined. The staff are friendly, the rooms are beautifully appointed and spotless, and the common areas are homey and inviting. I particularly was impressed by the fresh flower arrangements. Speaking of flowers, a friend called and asked that a bouquet be delivered to my room and it was spectacular! I think the highlight, though, was the new spa. WOW! I have two ... well ..."complaints" ... is too strong a word. I was disappointed our room didn't have a real fireplace, only an electric one. And the food options were a bit too heavy and rich for our tastes. I don't eat meat, so I found the on-site options somewhat limited. That said, a quick 5-minute drive into North Hatley provided us with two excellent restaurants as well as a general store that kept us fortified with bread, cheese, and wine.

Outstanding Main dining room Dinner and breakfast are simply the best ingredients, preparations, and service. I have no idea where the negative reviews come from, certainly not Manoir Hovey. The small town of North Hatley very charming.

- J (8/5): A venerable old and still charming hotel - Manoir Hovey has been one of my personal favorite place for years. The property sits on a beautiful domain on the lakeshore. Recently they underwent some renonciation and an additional wing has been added as well as a spa. We tried the new spa on our recent visit and it was incredible. Although rather small the spa has beautiful clean new sauna and hamman and several massage rooms with a dedicated team of therapist. Truly a blissful experience. However the addition of a new wing seems to have put some weight on the rest of the property and at breakfast service the staff was a bit overwhelmed. Some of the furniture in the lobby and library has well has the rooms in the main building are looking a bit tired and would benefit from better care. Dinner at the Hatley is a serious business the chef continue to evolve while staying true to his focus on locally source ingredients I would say that the overall experience tends to be a little heavy. The wine list at the restaurant is impressive and there’s something for every occasions and preference. The rooms, even in the main building are spacious and comfortable but the bathrooms are a bit on the small side. It’s usually very quiet and the atmosphere is restful. Overall manoir Hovey remain a venerable institution but it should remain vigilant to maintain its standards.

Including getting us other accommodation and comping meals, the room and spa treatments. This was much appreciated although the comp accommodation did not have the same ambience and view that our originally booking had, was not walkable to the main lodge and did not make up for the inconvenience. Our second night we had our original.room. Everything else was excellent, the food, service and setting. This ai a place special and well worht the visit.
