Guest Reviews
- Jared (10/5): - Clean, warm, friendly.
- Greg (8/5): - It was where and what I needed
- Deborah (10/5): - Older motel that’s dated but very clean. The location to the Manistee National Forest and the M Trail head was perfect.
- mark (8/5): - nothing fancy, clean room
- Gregory (6/5): - It was a clean and spacious room. Bed was hard and uncomfortable, sheets and towels had stains but smelled clean. The water smelled horrible. Pulling in it looks like a junk yard. Weird that everything in the room was unplugged and not enough outlets to charge devices. Internet didn't work. Good restaurant just down the rd but not much else. Lots of recreation close. Ok for the price but won't be staying again.
- William (10/5): Highly Recommend - The owner was very nice and helpful in suggesting where to eat in the area. Thanks to him I had a delicious dinner and a nice walk at a beach in Manistee.
The bed was comfortable and the room was clean, big and cozy. The area is quiet, peaceful and beautiful. After all, you’re inside a national forest.
- Christopher (10/5): Excellent value and customer service! - This place is awesome and the gentleman that owns it is the kindest man you could imagine. It was like staying at my grandfather's house. Nothing fancy, but considering the alternatives in the area, the cleanliness and comfort far exceeded my expectations. Just a couple miles from tippy dam AND he has canoes and kayaks!! 10/10
- chaitanya (10/5): - It is unique
- Randy (10/5): - Very friendly check in experience
- Erik (8/5): Perfect - Perfect fir out fishing charter needs. Owner very friendly & helpful. Will stay there next time.
- Anatolii (2/5): - Unfortunately Wifi didn't work
- Britney (2/5): - Unfortunately unsanitary conditions
- Anita (10/5): - Good stay, very convenient. Clean bed. Had to move the microwave to allow the mini fridge and microwave to work. Could only get one channel on the tv but might be user error. Stopped trying after 10 minutes. Fresh coffee available outside every morning.
- Kelly (10/5): A good choice. - While this isn't a 5 star hotel, its clean, simple, and quiet. The owner is so friendly and welcoming. If I'm ever in the area again, I would stay here.
- Mikhaila (10/5): - Clean room, spacious for 5 people!
- Wendy (10/5): Thank you! - I've never experienced an easier check in. The hotel is on the edge of a beautiful national forest, with our view a quiet yard. Very relaxing. We were there for our uncle's funeral and couldn't have asked for anything more relaxing. Quaint, clean, convenient.
- kanga1342 (10/5): Clean, modern, comfortable rooms - I needed lodging near an event in Wellston, Michigan. Scully's more than fit the plan. Each room opens directly outside, so you can back your car right up and unload. There are many things that make the room stand out. It is clean, well maintained, and comfy. In addition, there is a storm door on the entry door which is nice. The carpet looks new, the tile in the entry way and bathroom is in perfect condition, this was one of the deepest and longest bath tubs I've ever seen in a motel, and the flat screen TV receives Dish satellite service. I would not hesitate to stay here again! The owner Tim Scully is easy to reach via text and very nice. There is no food service or swimming pool, but it was worth it for the convenient location. The room had a refrigerator and microwave, so I was all set.
- Ronald (10/5): - While we did not actually stay at the motel, we were treated very well by the owner Tim Scully. Due to issues, he contacted us and had made arrangements at another place for us, and he paid for it. This was a very unexpected thing for him to do, and very much appreciated.
So since we did not see or go to Scully's, I am not qualified to answer some of the questions.
Thank you.
- Nichole (10/5): - The owner Tim was great and very accommodating as far as checking in and out. Room was very clean.
Motel is a little bit from town but not bad.
- Margaret (6/5): - Roadside motel, room was clean. Light bulbs were out, tv reception snowy due to poor connections or too many. Outside of motel a lot of vehicles parked seemed like out door storage for RV and cars. Got what we paid for. Ok for a place to sleep.
- Dawn (10/5): - Tim upfront was so kind and very trustworthy. The rooms were so clean and the bed was comfy! Very homie feeling! We 💯 recommend! Definitely booking here next year!!
- John (8/5): - Good location
- Rodney (8/5): - nice
- Heather (10/5): - Very nice property. Quiet and relaxing.
- Tricia (6/5): - My husband and I stayed 3 nights. The man who checked us in was very nice. It was clean and quiet. I wish that there had been someone to supply clean towels, toilet paper, trash removal, bed making but no one came to our room or called or delivered clean linens. Continental breakfast was advertised but not supplied. 2 of the 3 mornings we went up to get coffee (all outside due to the fear of covid I’m assuming) there was none. There was no continental breakfast and the hot tub that was also advertised was not open (again I’m assuming covid) but if this was because of covid the I feel the prices should have been adjusted. This room was not cheap ($118.00 a night).
- Esteban (6/5): - The room was fine, It was stated in the listing that breakfast was available, that is one of the main reasons why I booked this place. JUst to find out on the day of that breakfast is no longer being provided. I am hoping that they update their listing for future guests
- Roberta (8/5): - This motel worked well for us. We were looking for a quick overnight stay on our way further north. This older motel has had some updates and we found everything clean and tidy. We were OK with the COVID protocols and contactless check-in.
- Matthew (10/5): - Anyone staying here must understand the "small town" approach the management has toward running this place. I loved it.
- MELISSA (8/5): - It was really nice and quiet.
- Thomas (8/5): - crazy owner worried about covid and its over !
- Roger (10/5): - I could not be more pleased with scully's place, conveniently located, affordable, clean.
I would definitely recommend and will for sure stay there again when I'm in that area.
- Christina (10/5): great stay on a budget - I booked this because it was the least expensive Motel over memorial day weekend. I wasn't expecting much for the budget friendly price but I LOVED it. It's nestled in the Manistee forest and the view is spectacular. I have never stayed at such a quiet motel, I couldn't believe we weren't the only guests. The rooms are a bit dated but they are very clean, the pillows are fluffy, and rooms come with a refrigerator and microwave. They offer free Wi-Fi, and we had no problems with it. The only TV is satellite so remember that those aren't perfect and can be spotty. They don't have usb outlets so you'll need to pack your own.
- Melanie (10/5): - Clean rooms. Comfortable and cozy. Ma and Pa kind of place. The owner Tim, goes above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need, and you feel welcomed.
- John (8/5): - Good fishing
- Steven Ralph (4/5): - No personal service , things put outside for you to get. , but wasn’t told about the program
- John (10/5): - No problems, I would stay again.
- Holly (10/5): - Scully's was cute, quiet, safe and easy to find and access. There was plenty of room for us to park our trailer carrying our atv's. The service was very accommodating and kind. The check in time is earlier than most places which is awesome! The hot tub is great after riding nearby trails all day, but you need to turn the temp up at least an hour & a half before you actually want to get in so it's actually warm enough. I understand that's a way they conserve electricity, so just know ahead of time. It's a cute little area to hang out with friends too.
- Mary (6/5): - Error made with reservation; room was not available. Owner had an "emergency" housekeeping done and got us into a room. At least he righted the wrong and provided us a room in the end.
- F2000SDcynthiaw (10/5): Doable - This was a last minute trip, so I dealt with the manager via phone to get our reservation. Cute and clean room, and a firm bed (hate a soft one!). Coffee near the office was much appreciated at 6:30 a.m. Casual but just what we needed. If you want continental breakfast and a pool, keep driving….
- Paul (10/5): - Very quiet, comfortable and service was great, owners were very friendly. We stayed the weekend, had a 1st birthday down the road and just wanted something we could have comfort in. Very clean, taken care of and perfect for what we wanted
- Verified traveler (10/5): - we liked being in the middle of the woods and enjoying the peace and quiet.
- Tom (8/5): My first choice to stay!! - Scully's is a great place to stay and a nice respite from the hotel chains!! The room was clean, cozy and comfy!!😊
Very easy to talk with the staff there who are knowledgeable of the many activities and events in the area!! I will stay at Scully's when I am up there again!!👍
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Because of covid, check in was a little odd. Tim & staff were very friendly and handle a low contact clean place very well.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - adress and directions, poor or wrong
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was good for sleeping for the night .
Comfortable beds , clean .
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room was clean. Scully is one tough Hombre. He will give you a parking lesson! Coffee service is outside and the box is full of bugs. This place is for sleeping only! There aren't any amenities.
- Dominic (10/5): Great place to stay. - This place is old school, really clean and a great place to stay. You got an actual metal key for the door, the TV had a large back on it. They had cable and some wifi. Plenty of parking for my boat trailer. The place is real clean inside and out. Located right off the main road, easy in and out access. No trees in the driveway to have to go through. Its nice and open.
- ROBERT (8/5): Comfortable, no fanciness. We'll be back. - For less than half the price of Manistee nice-ish hotels, we will definitely stay here again. The hotel folks were nice and I'm sure would have helped us with any problems that we may have had.
The sheets were a bit scratchy, and the towels were also bit scratchy scratchy and less than plush. We will bring our own sheets and towels next time, but that's definitely worth it for the price you pay and the overall comfort you feel here.
The furniture was older, but the refrigerator was double the size of a usual hotel refrigerator. The TV was fine.
If you're not from the area, don't discount the awesome outdoor stuff available in this area, like we almost did. You're in a National Forest, so do some trails and to some biking. It's an awesome outdoor area!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - There was no hot water in shower in room #6. I told the person at desk, they said they were aware of that. Was told the owner would be back around 10:30 at night. Hey, I was in bed by then.
- Curtis (10/5): Simple, but good - Needed a place to sleep and shower after my reservation was given away at my original hotel. I made the reservation at 1030pm, was there by 11pm. The staff met me at my truck and had my room unlocked for me. A very nice relief since I had just been bumped from my planned stay. Room was clean and simple. Quite country/woods setting.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Suitable stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It is a very quaint roadside motel. The room was newly remodeled... carpeting, tile, tub, toilet, sink, freshly painted! It is quaint in the fact that the furniture was antiques, very quiet and secluded, yet near to Manistee & Brethren. The owner greeted us every morning offering coffee. For a quiet getaway I would highly recommend!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Couldn't even stay here because we are Not vaccinated. And won't even try in the future.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very accommodating. Local business trying hard to survive. Values Covid concerns and operates appropriately
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Sheets were dirty and there were also hairs in the sheets. Toilet was unflushed and filled with urine. For $100 I expect at least clean sheets and they definitely missed the mark here...
- Scott (6/5): It was ok - I didn't expect a 5 star hotel.
Room was pretty clean
We stayed in October. 45-50 degree overnight temperature. Had the heat off, fan on, window open. 2:00 in the morning it was 78 degrees in the room. Not sure what the problem was.
- Tim (10/5): Clean and comfortable rooms - Very clean and comfortable place. Very close to fishing spots. Tim was Great. Traks bar and grill and Mel’s are close and had great food and service.
We’ll be back.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Decent stay for the price. Basic amenities were provided.
- Lisa (10/5): - Scully's was great. Quiet rural setting. Price was reasonable and the room was just fine. There are additional very cool amenities when not in a pandemic...hot tub and patio under the stars with woods in the rear of the motel, so very quiet and peaceful. Not too far from Manistee or surrounding areas.
- Jasmine (6/5): - It was cool for what it was. It could have been a little cleaner. The comforters were dusty, probably because no one has been in them lately and the water smelled like nickel and iron from no usage. Other than that it was cool
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very nice stay, helpful and peaceful stay. Close to wellston and Manistee.
- John (8/5): Just right - Just right. Out of the traffic and commotion. Not far from city or lake/beaches. Quiet-felt like we were only ones there. Wifi was patchy-which made it all more pleasing and easier to keep kids off phones
- Tim (10/5): - Nice and quiet and in the country away from the city lights and noises :)
- Dave (2/5): - It might have been acceptable as a rustic cabin at half the price. Quite past it’s prime, and chintzy. Given a key that did not fit our door, which we discovered at 10 pm. Manager on site told us he didn’t know anything about the place.
- Judith (10/5): - I liked the fact that it is in the country and had a firepit for a bonfire on a summer night. The owner was friendly and helpful.
- Angie (8/5): - For a small town and area I had minimal expectations but honestly it was so clean and we were in a heat wave but the window ac was on point and kept us cool. They also had a mini fridge and microwave in room which again for a small town hotel I do not usually see.
Owner is friendly and made social distancing check in and out easy. My only recommendation is they add a coffee pot to the rooms for people like me addicted to it lol.
Since we have family up there, this will be our new normal. Hotel when we visit.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Place was clean an very warm for winter in Mi very friendly an helpful
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice people nice area and location is good and is better than noisy hotel hallways.
- J-T (8/5): - The proximity to the river and hunting areas is excellent and has an early breakfast for those wanting an early start. Room fridge didn’t work but the outdoor one works just fine. Really close to Brethren, MI
- Verified traveler (4/5): - This is a very old, low budget hotel except for the price. The mattress had a low spot in the middle so you rolled towards the middle during the night. No coffee maker in the room or cups for drink of water but they did have 2 water bottles in there.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything was fantastic. Would definately stay again.
- TERA (10/5): Love it! - Such an amazing little find ❤️ a bit dated, but loved that there was 2 full and a single bed in our room! A great place to stay for a night (close enough to go watch sunsets at the lake!) And then up early for a local 5k with my girls. We love exploring our great mitten!
- James (2/5): Avoid Scully's Manistee Outpost Motel - Very small, old and unkept room. The towels did not match and were ripped. The TV remote did not seem to work and was filthy. Toiletries were scimped, the bar of soaps were the size of tiny wafers. Breakfast consisted of box cereals and bagels. Cereal setting out on shelf. Only stayed one minute, refunded for amount of room. Paid $130, not worth $60. Wife would not stay for free!!
- Sheri (8/5): - Very nice little mom and pop type motel.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - nothing , no service, no new sheets, towels and washcloths
old and worn out, tv did not work or poor screen, Rates are
exhorbitant and for what you get!
- mommamiller (10/5): 4th of July 2019 - We enjoyed Scully’s!!! We wanted to enjoy the 4th of July and not break the bank...I would highly recommend Scully’s! We missed the fireworks because we had 13 hrs of the best sleep in a long time!! Beds clean, comfortable, cold air, dark, and even the fans were provided!! I rented two rooms, because I didn’t think there was enough beds, come to find out there was 3 beds in one room!! Tim graciously refunded me the 2nd room!! Made the weekend even better!! Ron was a great host..felt like a big happy family! We will be back! Thanks again!

- Karen (2/5): - Creepy. I am a woman traveling alone. The deadbolt on my door did not work. Was a door into room next door. It was not locked, I had to lock. I left in middle of night as just did not feel safe and could not sleep.
- BridgeFestGirls (10/5): Great little motel with all the comforts of home. - Scully’s Outpost is a little motel with 12 rooms out in the boonies. The lady that sits at the counter is Janice. She is super sweet, made sure we had everything we needed from a corkscrew for the wine to a pizza pan to cook our frozen pizzas the guys brought home on the beer run because the few places that were close, shut down at 9:00...so frozen pizza, jalapeño cheddar sticks and Michigan wine for dinner it was, lol. (She even helped cook and deliever the pizzas). Found a place called Tracks with really good food the second night and brought it back to the motel. There was a barn loaded with firewood and a full moon out, so both nights we loved starting the fires and sitting out with all the different personalities staying at the motel, swapping stories and phone numbers and hearing the coyotes howl in the woods right behind us. They even had French vanilla cream in the fridge!! Very unique, cool place...I would most definitely go back. 😎😎
- indianaNurse10 (6/5): First night of Vacation - Small Mom & Pop type motel. Very quaint. Different experience as we are used to chain hotels. Beds comfortable and clean hotel. Small room. No frills. Breakfast consist of cereal and toast. Milk in the refrigerator. No ice machine, but there were ice cubes in the freezer for drinks. It is a community freezer and refrigerator. The man who checked us in was very friendly. About 15 miles out of town, places to eat about 4 miles away and close at 8 p.m. Thought the price for the room a little high, paid about the same price for hotels who offered more.
