Guest Reviews
- Dae K (2/5): - I've been traveling to Canada for the past week. Out of all that, this place was the worst. So far, Expedia has chosen accommodation based on ratings, the worst of all. Leaving a review for the first time. I hope no one goes to this accommodation. When I got to the accommodation first, there was a car in the parking lot. From this point on, I didn't feel good. There was no one and only Bell was stuck at the check-in office. It rang at least six times, but no one came. I was able to get my phone number and pass through. I knew later, but you only did this. The exterior of the office was a pile of laundry behind messy paper on my laptop and desk. I got the key. I only got one key. When I woke up, I felt like I could sleep overnight, but it smelled so bad. When I opened the door and ventilated it, the bed was full of dust. When I lifted the sheet, there were dry grass or pieces of wood attached to it. Both beds were stuck together. I wasn't sure if I could go back and sleep well. Walking by, I saw a motel called Comfort. We went in and asked if there was a room, and fortunately, there was one. I went back, packed it up and checked out. There was no one in the office yet, and when I called, they told me to leave my keys in my room. I ran away within two hours of arriving. Do not be photographed. Do not go here. Clean accommodation is a valuable accommodation for tired travel.
- David (6/5): Flies in the room - A lot of flies in the room.
- blake (6/5): - place was tired looking
- Lynne (8/5): - Office area clean but disorganized and untidy…
Units are clean and bathroom modern and clean … window dressings has much needed upgrade … blinds old and broken .. I enjoy staying here but place needs to be tidied up
- Ellen (10/5): A wonderful surprise - It looked like someone has worked very hard to make this old motel a nice place. It’s not posh but very clean and comfortable. I would definitely come back if I were not just passing through.
- Susan (4/5): - A roof over our heads but everything else was mediocre. Office was a mess - a sign that ambiance is low priority. Room was cramped, outlets in inconvenient locations, clean but grungy bathroom, difficult to operate wall ac unit. No directions given for how to check out so we had to ring the bell and wake the proprietor for a 7:30am start.
- Danying (6/5): - Room (double bed) is too small, bathroom is smelly from the drainage. This motel is very close to a city cruises that we like best. We booked too late, so this was the lowest price we could find around this area.
- Franz (8/5): - ok
- mina (8/5): - Nice and cute rooms all around a yard, clean but weak kitchen stuff. Of course not a hotel but in same price!
- Mario (6/5): Good - Good, this motel is over valued on hotel.com
Should be 6 Max 6.5
Service, staff cleaners 9.5
- Lili (8/5): - An excellent location for Sup, cycling but no later evening dinning option. We did Sup under beautiful sunset, the view is amazing; came back in dark with no restaurant open nearby. Hotel has BBQ and simple kitchen. Near water front trial, cycling towards west direction, restaurant, Cosmo camping , thousand island province park are all close by . Overall it’s still a nice staying.
- MD.HAFIZUR (2/5): - I stayed at Capricorn Motel Gananoque and was very disappointed with the experience. The service was poor – staff were unhelpful and unprofessional. My room was not clean, and the overall condition of the property felt neglected.
What I didn’t like:
Unfriendly and unresponsive staff
Room was not cleaned properly
No basic amenities or maintenance
Poor value for the money
Unfortunately, the negatives far outweighed the positives. I would not recommend this motel to others.
- Michael (10/5): - Close to our dive boat
- Jason (8/5): - The o ly drawback for this location is that the mobile coverage in the area is very weak and the Wifi provided was also inconsistent.
- Geraldine (8/5): - Nice place
The motel is very old but clean
- Jack (6/5): - No wifi. No dining close by.
- Sheri (10/5): Love the peace - We stay here once or twice a year. Staff ae extremely friendly and helpful. Loved the chipmunks and little red squirrels. Very entertaining!
- Barry (8/5): - it was ok
- Gaurav (8/5): budget friendly - It was good, rooms were smelly like damp wood and has some mosquitos as well. No repellents were provided to prevent that. Since it is a budget friendly stay so can be ignored.
- Claudia (10/5): - I really liked it. Staff was very friendly and helpful, they clean your room everyday. Wi-fi was not the best, but if you are going there to relax, you really don’t need it.
- Alan (8/5): - very conveniently located for what we neededd
- Sireesha (4/5): - Check in was quick and easy. However, the room was pretty dirty starting from the floor to the beds. My friend found a tick in her leg after lying in the bed for a bit so not sure if that came from outside or the bed itself because when we lifted up the pillows, we saw several other bugs like mosquitoes and flies. Clearly, the place is not cleaned well and I am hoping I didn't bring back any bed bugs.
On top of that, there was a storm overnight and we lost power at 3 am. This meant that when we woke up at 7:30 am, there was no electricity, running water or internet. I tried to contact the front desk but noone answered. We could hear generators working all around our motel but ours was not attended to at all. We checked out early to try and freshen up elsewhere. Definitely avoid this place!
- Shubhashish (4/5): - Stay was what you can expect from a Motel, but during our stay electricity and water went off midnight. Not sure what they would expect guest to do without water and electricity.
- pierre (10/5): - pas de restaurant proche . lieux propre bon service nous avons apprecier notre cours sejour.
- Chao (2/5): - We hadn’t checked in ,But they changed us full money, though we told them we got the wrong order sincerely.
- Nagarajan (8/5): - its in good location.
- Mike (8/5): - Close to water.
- Alexander (6/5): - It’s really basic but if you’re only sleeping showering and parking, it’s great for the price.
- Sharon (2/5): - This was advertised as waterfront but it's over a block away from the water. Definitely false advertising. It was an $80-a-night place that we paid $250 for. The bathroom needed an overhaul and the beds were terrible. For that price, we expected a lot more.
- MARK (2/5): Tired - Place in desperate need of an upgrade
- Rosalinda (6/5): - On my opinion the price rate is not suitable to the stand of the property like the bathroom floors are creaking. airconditioner are hard to manage the controls. Amenities are not perfect it is good we bring our own. Internet does not have a strong connection. One thing good the staff are friendly.
- Mohsin (10/5): Five Star Staff and Peaceful Stay - A geeat place. Lovely staff. Front desk gentleman was a very very very nice staff memeber. There was a kitchen available to make coffee and save my food in fridge. Microwave was very handy. I took the cruise right across the street. Very quiet and peaceful stay.
- Diane (10/5): Hidden gem - What a great little place to stay! Highly recommend!
- Tanya (6/5): - The Capricorn was in a beautiful location right on the water. This hotel was fairly well kept. The exterior was lovely and well maintained. The inside was dated, yet tidy. The room did have a bit of a musty smell but completely tolerable. The staff that greeted us was very friendly and helpful. Check in was easy. I think this motel has great potential with some minor upgrades.
- Ivan (6/5): Very basic motel, severely overpriced - This hotel is very basic: the room is VERY small and dark, there is little privacy, and no breakfast. The service is close to non-existent: I spent 15 minutes trying to locate someone who would check me in. The guy was not rude per se, but he had trouble understanding my accent, and simply avoided the conversation, not wanting to make an effort.
There are cheaper hotels in Gananoque with much better condition. This hotel has a certain rustic hippie community charm, and it would be OK for one night for CAD $100, but at CAD $200 it is severely overpriced.
The only thing going for it is location, but saving 10 minutes on driving is simply not worth it. I would not return, nor would I recommend this motel to my friends.
- Cristian (10/5): - Older establishment that certainly shows it age, but it is clean and quaint. Love the outdoor seating!
- Rachel (4/5): - The room has a really unpleasant smell, which made the stay not very comfortable. But the bed sheets are clean.
- Derek (6/5): - Ideal location but cleanliness of the bathroom was not idea. We waited 10 minutes for hot water and when it finally came, the water was brown for about 5 minutes. When I complained about it to the clerk it said it's because our room was unocccupied for a week so next time we come we should inform them and they will run the water beforehand. Shouldn't it be their job?
They left 2 unopened water bottles which I thought was very thoughtful but upon drinking them afterwards, we felt ill...
- Lucy (8/5): - Here is very convenience to stay, people are friendly, room is clear....
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hotel is great..,.
- Sherry (8/5): - It's a very quiet place. Facilities looks old but they are functional and clean. The bed is comfortable. There is also a common room with fridge and microwave oven so that you can prepare a simple meal. It's a good place where you can rest your body.
- Stephen (6/5): - Nice location near the river. Wasn't the best mantained motel. tub filled up with water when showering. The TV got alot of channels, only problem you have to select each one manually to see what on it. Very time consuming and frustrating. Staff was very friendly.
- Herelio (6/5): - Did moy have a properly working wifi
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Great greeting and clean rooms and tables. They even fixed a burnt out light in minutes to let us enjoy a night on the patio
- Liviu-Robert (10/5): - Quiet, clean, a very nice place to stay
- Donna (10/5): - I really like that room 2 is open for all the guests to use. Making breakfast, we had great conversations with the others.
It would have been nice to have access to a spot near the water to watch the sunset.
- Cecil (2/5): - When we arrived we asked to see the room. It was old,had an unpleasant smell, and could have been cleaner. The pictures do not tell the real story. Had to pay for the night. No refund.Found a better place down the road.
- Boukhaima (10/5): - The staff was very helpful and nice. The beds were clean.
- Charles (10/5): - nice quite and peaceful place for the price perfect
- Derek (8/5): - Nice little motel - easy parking out front of unit - rooms neat and tidy - close to attractions - would stay there again
- Danny Angelo (6/5): - OK.
- Jeff (8/5): - Great location
- Isabelle (6/5): - I liked that it was just by the water , but the room smelled like mold and the bathroom was dirty , did not even wanted to wash myself in it .
- Terry (8/5): - An average finish and decor inside the cramped room, nice to have a fridge. The main kitchen as such was opposite, this to be shared by a potential of 14 different parties. Clean sheets, pillows and shower to be fair.
- Mohammad Mohaiminul (2/5): - Room is not clean and bad smell inside the room even wifi don’t work properly!
- Elaine (10/5): - The place was clean and the beds were very comfortable
- Emily (8/5): - We didn't like not being able to open a window. The AC worked fine but the night was cool enough not to need it.
- Edward D. (4/5): - Good: walls were fresh painted, looked like newer paneling, drop ceiling. Beds were comfortable.
Bad: mildew smell pervasive. Weird, dirty floor material, needs updated. Blinds not working and no privacy curtain. A/C on some presets timer so we boiled at night.
This COULD be a nice property, but as is I would not recommend
- Samarth (6/5): - The site manager was helpful. But the room, even though it was clean, was smelling of humidity
- Andrew (6/5): - It took them about 2 hrs to get the tv to work. The machine to pay with wasn’t working either initially. The internet wasn’t working in the morning before we left.
- Yow (10/5): - Peaceful
- Donald (10/5): - Easy to get to tour boats. Nice clean rooms. Good service.
- Graham (6/5): - no microwave in room, electric heat very low, no heat in bathroom, no sat tv unable to fix, parking area very narrow
- Ning (8/5): -
- John (10/5): - Friendly service. Beautiful area.
- Ryan (10/5): - So cute! A real pleasure to stay here!
- Picken (8/5): - Close to the water with a cruise right next door
- Bill (8/5): - The room was clean but a bit cramped, although not unusual for a motel. The grounds were neat and tidy but parking is very tight.
- Sulekha (8/5): - Naw
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was average. Would have hoped for better. Wifi was choppy at best. TV worked only occasionally. The place is just ok for a quick overnighter, but not for longer stays. It needs to be updated. Everything is old. Staff were helpful and polite, but you just can’t fix “old”.
- Daanish (10/5): - Just a heads me night stay and headed out early. Very clean.
- Susan (10/5): - Nice clean room
- Blaine (8/5): - Location. Just across the street from the St. Lawrence river in a rutal area. Quiet and peaceful.
- Sylvain (10/5): -
- Paolo (10/5): - Beautiful location. Only one remark: car parking too near to outside table
- Philip (8/5): - It is good enough for the price. The room was clean. Air conditioner was not too noisy.
- Leonard (8/5): - We checked in late so didn't see the property. Left early and didn't talk to the manager or staff
- Graham (10/5): - Set in an idyllic area
So peaceful and quiet
Room has everything you need for a comfortable stay
- Christina (6/5): - Cheapest in the area, which was our MAIN reason for booking.... BUT, to get ANYWHERE, you have to drive almost 15 min each way...to a 'main street'... for restaraunts, groceries... etc... SOO, with the prices of gas, would have probably been 'cheaper' to get a place closer to king street, that was a little more $.
Shower head was really gross. Felt dirtier getting out of the shower than before... Room kinda smelt funny. Beds were hard as rocks ... Literally nothing to do there... so if you are there to do absolutely nothing... it's good, or for a quick one night stop over to go somewhere else... but... it was definitely not for us... would not recommend or go back again. I'd give it a 2/10... It is close to water... but... unless you have private property there... not exactly an area to go sit on a pier/beach area and relax.
- Carriw (10/5): - Staff were very pleasent.
- WANTING (8/5): - close lake
- Campbell (6/5): - Good place and a great price. Super location.
- Barry (10/5): Cycling heaven - Written with tariff in mind and general characteristics that we like.
COMPLIMENTARY TEA AND COFFEE freely available; including a shared kitchen.
Very comfortable, clean throughout. Good water pressure and toiletries thrown in.
Great very quiet location just off main road and heaps of bicycle storage including undercover. Many many kilometres of off road sealed cycle available at the front door.
- Susan M (10/5): - Nice locally owned motel. Would stay there again.
- Maria Teresa (8/5): - Property nicely landscaped. Rooms very clean. Common area kitchenette and bbq available for use. Went for a lovely evening walk. Staff was very friendly and available
- Tricia (6/5): - The location is absolutely beautiful with a breathtaking view of the St. Lawrence. We did have a few issues though: The bathroom floor was really dirty, and the beds were horrible. The walls are also very thin, and we could hear EVERYTHING from the rooms next to us.
- stefan (8/5): - Nice property, young man at desk needs to understand what the hospitality business is about - it means being a HOST. "I don't know" does not accomplish that.
- Sunil (10/5): - Very close to the lake
- Etienne (10/5): - Great
- Heather (8/5): - A cute little tucked away place. Clean and comfortable.
- Sviatoslav (10/5): - Very nice friendly staff very clean rooms
- Kwok Kwong (10/5): - Surprisingly clean and cozy room. Will stay again if traveling in that area.
- Aurora (8/5): - Great tucked away location at a good price! Great water pressure in the shower.
- suzanne (10/5): - Perfect location to stop and spend the night. Owner helpful in helping us to find a place to eat within 7 minutes drive.
Will definitely come back here!
- Terry (8/5): - Nice location , old style motel but for a short visit was fine , nice restaurant ( Donnellys ,) across the road on the river
- Claudio (6/5): - Excellent location in middle of the Thousand Islands Parkway. The owner /manager was very friendly. Beyond that we are baffled at the 4 and 5 ratings. The rooms are small and cramped as 2 double beds take up most of the space. The bathroom was clean but smelled of urine. The table and chair outside the room was nice as we had good weather, but right next to the parking. The communal kitchen was next to our room so we used the toaster and kettle to make a simple breakfast (with our own food and dinnerware). Not good value but this whole area seems overpriced, especially with pandemic issues.
- yvonne (8/5): - Close to the river.good restaurant nearby.
- Charene (8/5): - Quiet and quaint. Affords the opportunity to experience the 1000 Islands as if at a cottage along the water. Clean rooms in an “old school” motel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Quiet private road with excellent restaurant just across the street.
