- Dean (8/5): Overall a quaint motor inn with convenient access to the ferry. - Reasonably priced, very close access to the Departure Bay ferry. Allowed pets. Updated bathroom. Clearly cater to smokers as many of the rooms had ashtrays outside of the rooms. Slight hint of smoke in the room.
- laura (6/5): Good value. Would stay again. - Well equipped kitchen with seating. Good value for price. Smelled faintly of cigarettes. Lumpy beds
- Reed (9/5): -

- catherine (5/5): Ne donne pas envie de revenir - C'est propre La literie est vieille. Des matelas à ressorts de très mauvaise qualité.
Impossible de faire fonctionner le robinet de la douche.
La dame à l' accueil peu avenante

- Barbara (8/5): -
- Sally (10/5): -
- Josh (5/5): Decent for the price - It was fairly clean, easy to find, nice upgrades in the bathroom. The beds were uncomfortable, and the AC unit rattles so loudly that we couldn't use it.
- glen (10/5): Enjoyed the bluebird motel, they exceeded our expectations - Fantastic staff, friendly, close to ferry ,close to major roadways, and an absolutely extraordinary east Indian restaurant two doors down.
- Danielle (8/5): Rapport qualité / prix très bien -
- deborah (6/5): The staff was friendly and helpful, the owner could spend some money on the rooms. - The staff were very good and location was good .i liked that it had a kitchen. The couch and beds need to be replaced. Air conditioning was very loud and did not cool the room very well
- Diosa (10/5): -
- Patalee (10/5): -
- Emily (8/5): Friendly people, great kitchen, good parking - The kitchen was perfect. Shower was hot with good pressure. Pet friendly! The bed could have been more comfortable. The sound on the TV was hard to understand: maybe the speaker is blown out?
- Francois (5/5): - Very bad lighting Bad lighting
- Sandra (8/5): -
- Dion (6/5): - The staff were not kind i didnt get my recipet and check in and the man got upset assuming i got it and then the lady worker also wasnt kind wjen we first checked in
If you looking for affordable one night stay kindnof deal this is the hotel, the room was bad was spacious not much hot water,
Very noisy with partiers in the area kept hearing banging and yelling and walking on porch
Would not stay here again for my family
- Barbara (10/5): - Location
- Robert (8/5): I would stay here again. - Convenient location to the places I needed to attend.
It is an older Motel, but well kept up and clean.
I had a unit with a small kitchen and living room.
It was nice to have a couch to watch television from rather than lying in a bed.
The Price was very economical.
Bonus, the Air Conditioning in my room cooled down the whole unit in about half an hour... My fridge froze my food.
- Saplala (8/5): Great stay overall! - Liked that it is pet friendly and close to all big spots in Nanaimo It was on the Hway and noticed a lot of garbage
- maria Cristina (10/5): - The staff is so friendly and the owner
- Roger (8/5): - Good.
- Supak (6/5): - Ok
- Steve (8/5): -
- Ryan (8/5): Newly renovated - Room is recently renovated. Bathroom was especially clean and new. Beds were older but still good. We were catching the first morning ferry so the location was great. Also close to two nice parks, one on the harbour and the other had a waterfall. Price was steep for a motel room, but overall pleased with our stay
- Christine (8/5): - The people were wonderful 😀
- Doreen (8/5): - The room had air conditioning ,I thought that was great ,only downside was our card wouldn't work and needed to have maintenance to fix it ,we did have a little wait but maintenance came right away and took care of i
- Kelcie (10/5): - Absolutely loved everything!!
- Panth (10/5): -
- Sheliegh (7/5): -
- Thomas (6/5): - Convenient to ferry.
- Robert (8/5): - Convenient place to stay on the island after getting the late ferry over. Good family room options.
- Kristin (6/5): - It was okay.
- Guilherme (4/5): - Extremely noisy air conditioner, bed sheets with stains.
- Yu (10/5): - Very convenient location, clean, safe and spacious.
- boqian (5/5): - living room is large, big fridge mold smelling
- Sue (6/5): - The desk lamp didn't work and we found out the plug in was OOO and the coffee maker was kaput but mgmt was very kind and got me a new one.....
- Catherine (9/5): - Clean ,comfortable. Suites were smelly
- Johnathan (4/5): - Close to the ferry, but not well maintained. Beds were uncomfortable and outside was noisy with people talking and smoking into the night. The A/C unit pulled cigarette smoke from outside the room into the room making it unpleasant to stay in the room. The couch in the room was quite dirty and not something I would want to sit on.
- Lorraine (10/5): - This property was perfect for what we needed.
- Tünde (7/5): -
- Chanequa (8/5): Cute Resting Spot - The accommodations were clean and the beds were comfy. This is a great spot if you have a dog and want to be within walking distance of the waterfront, plenty of food options, gas or any last minute shopping if your headed north or to camp.
- Erika (10/5): - Check-in was easy. Room was clean. Staff was friendly and helpful
- Rainy (8/5): Great place - Great location, close to everything. The room was functional and the bed very comfortable. Excellent price, and the staff were friendly and welcoming
- Jona (10/5): Excellent - Clean and fast internet Nothing
- Sarah (10/5): - Great budget option! Super clean and comfy.
- Leonard (1/5): Avoid at all costs - Nothing to like about this hotel The room smelled really awful. We checked out 3 hours ago, and our clothes are still smelling awful.
Staff was rude. Told them about the smell, and they were like, its the air conditioner. There was no soap. When asked, they said they ran out and to use soap. But there was no soap. No coffee, and when we went to ask, they said, "Now what ?" We walked across the street and picked up coffee and soap from the convenience store. I can't wait to catch my flight. Get back home and have a tomato bath..
Will not recommend

- juhee (8/5): Clean but sunken mattress causing backache - Looks like both room and bathroom are renovated to clean and modern concept. Clean bedsheets and towels. Only issue we had was the sunken mattress that hurt our back next morning.
- Tammy (6/5): Seemed pricey considering... - Bed was decently comfortable. The air conditioner and little fridge were insanely loud. Non-smoking room, but man sitting outside my room smoking required the air conditioner fan to be on high. So loud! The one widow may be too small for some people to get out or a fire fighter to get in should a fire occur.
- David Ron (8/5): - No frills, well priced, large comfortable and clean room
- Brandon (8/5): - Mimmoz restaurant is really good downtown connected to the coast hotel.
- Jason (8/5): Pleasantly surprised!! - Pleasantly surprised by the hotel. Have driven by it many times and would not have considered staying there, but it was clean, staff were helpful and the price was great comparatively to other options.
We booked in a panic and only hoped for the best, and were very happy with the overall stay. Would consider staying again.
- Cora (8/5): - We really appreciated that we were able to have our cat with us at the Bluebird, for 4 nights. Our room was a single queen. It was clean, and perfect for our stay. The room had a fridge with freezer, drip coffee maker, microwave, a/c, tv and full washroom. We were at the end of the row (41), bottom floor, and found it quiet and we had great sleep. Our bed was located in the back of the room, not near the parking lot.
The bed was comfortable and there were 3 pillows so we found one for each of us, that was perfect for our sleeping needs.
I rated the condition and facilities low because the use of duct tape everywhere took away from the cleanliness. Tape was on the broken thermostat, the a/c unit, and the lamp. We also had concerns for the electrical outlet and the possibility of having a fire, as there were 6 plug-ins and all but 2 were in use (fridge, microwave, coffee maker, tv). We had an electric watering dish that we plugged in and we had concern of tripping the breaker if we added anything else. This made it difficult to charge our electronics as there was only one bedside table that had a plug-in on the lamp, on the other side of the room.
The addition of a dresser would be wonderful. Having to leave everything in my suitcase for 4 days, and having only 3 hangers, was difficult. A shallow dresser, placed along the hallway, adds convenience for your guests.
The staff were wonderful as well. They didn't enter the room as I asked because of our cat. Recommend!
- Susan (8/5): - Staff friendly and helpful
- Trevor (6/5): - I liked the fact that it was clean. The beds, pillows and noise made me wake every hour. Beds are very outdated, pillows are all but fluffy and the noise there seemed a bit much. At least it was clean…
- Bertha (8/5): - I liked how quiet and clean it was. It is an older building so water temperatures in the shower was crazy. I liked the little kitchen. Everything you needed
- Dakota (10/5): - Amazing staff, very hospitable
- Esther (7/5): -
- Pringle (10/5): -
- Carole (7/5): - La qualité de la literie, la propreté de la chambre et salle de bain Un peu de bruit le matin, avenue passante mais pour un motel de transit, ça fait l’affaire
Je n’y passerai pas un séjour complet c’est tout
- Elaine (10/5): - Very accessible to everything and the place was clean & very affordable for an overnight stay in Nanaimo
- Johanne (6/5): - La salle de bain avait été rénovée et propre. Un motel c'est un motel.
- Elaine (10/5): - convenient stay in Nanaimo - affordable, clean and very close to everything like shopping, gas & even the lakes and parks
- Bev (6/5): -
- Datu (9/5): - cleanliness
- Shelly (10/5): -
- aina (10/5): - This motel is conviniently located near the ferry terminal, and wirh a car, so many great restaurants are easily accessible. Our suite with kitchenette was very large, clean and comfortable.
Above all, the 5 star rating is for the staff at this motel. They are so nice, welcoming and treat you more like familly than hotel guests.
- Glenda (6/5): -
- Maricel (6/5): - Clean but old
- Cathy (8/5): - Decent price, good value, not chsrging outrageous prices just because it's summer.
- Peggy (8/5): - Location was good but motel could use a little work. Front desk lady kept a constant sign in the window that she would be right back.
- Deborah (6/5): - The staff were courteous at check in. The room itself was old and run down. The stove had no elements or racks so could not be used. There were 2 packages of unopened cigarettes in the dresser. The folks on the first floor and the cleaning and front desk staff smoked under the stairs which drifted into the room if the window or door was slightly open. No recommendations for services were provided. The room and building were very dated and worn.
- Lee-Ann (6/5): - The unit was okay but overpriced for what was available and the quality of furnishings/appliances in the room. Staff was wonderful however and gave a reduced rate for our second night stay.
- Antonio (8/5): - Property's OK
- Marguerita (6/5): - Beds are old and very uncomfortable. Outlets in the room don’t work. Air conditioners work slow and very warm at night as it is July.
- Atul (8/5): - It's was comfortable stay there, no issues at all. Lady whom I met at time of check in at reception was nice and helpful.
- Helen (8/5): - It isceasy to access close to everything
- Marie (10/5): - We stayed here after travelling from the interior and catching the late ferry. It was a great stopover with our two young kids. The room was clean, updated, and the whole grounds felt safe to be in. We showed up after check in hours but the reception left our key for us so we didn’t have to worry about timing. I would recommend staying here !
- Greg (10/5): Great Motel - This was one of the best motels we stayed at.
It's very clean, nicely looked after and the check-in lady was super nice.
Perfect score!
- Maryann (8/5): - Very comfortable. We stayed in a room with a full kitchen and kitchen essentials which is really nice. Will definite stay here again.
- Vijay (10/5): - Nice family suite.
- Ann (2/5): I'd rather sleep in my car than stay at this motel again. - Nothing Uncomfortable beds, not clean, people living on site, did not feel safe, awful furniture.
- David (4/5): - 1. We won't be visiting Nanaimo again. Although the waterfront is pretty, the city itself is flooded with homelessness and substance abuse. It's a dirty city. It's sad really...my heart goes out to this place.
2. Check is was quick, friendly staff.
3. The hallway just outside our unit had a smoking area, and our room reaked of it.
4. A bin full of trash and empty liquor bottles and cans were just outside our unit door. It was wildly in need of TLC. Not welcoming at all. We were glad to leave the next morning.
5. The pictures featured online for this place are deceitful. This is a very old place that just slapped a few new things here and there to make it presentable...at best.
6. If you can handle what's mentioned above, the price was one of the most affordable in Nanaimo.
7. We won't go here again.
- Rhonda Delene (10/5): - Good spot for a reasonable motel. They’ve updated a lot and the beds are comfortable.
- Glynda (9/5): - Location
- Maharagamage (6/5): -
- Kelly (6/5): - Floor was dirty, the beds were on rollers so sitting up in bed proved difficult. The oven took forever to heat up. Only two towels and one little bottle of shampoo in the bathroom for 4 people.(I had to fo get more)
The bedding was clean.
- Jocelyn (10/5): - Nice owner and staffs
- Shauna (2/5): - Did not enjoy left right after checking in
- Nav (10/5): - Nice
- Helen (8/5): - Very convient place, we stayed 4 nights. Nice staff and price is good
- Dorothy (8/5): - An older motel but it met or exceeded our expectations. Helpful staff.
