- Y6913MFvaleriea (10/5): A wonderful hotel - A wonderful experience from the moment we walked through the door. The whole building is exceptionally decorated, the furnishings luxurious and the rooms delightfully decorated. The service provided is exceptional and the restaurant provides a wide choice of very tasty food
- NorthStar21427074077 (8/5): Fantastic food. Very comfortable room. - The highlight of our stay was the food, which was absolutely delicious! All the staff were very friendly and attentive, and nothing was too much trouble.
Our bedroom was clean and comfortable, although it was very hot when we arrived, and we had to turn off the radiator and heated towel rail and open the window to cool the room down enough to sleep. The shower was over the bath, which was quite awkward, and a walk-in shower would have been preferable. At the time of our stay the lift was out of order, which we found difficult walking up and down to the second floor.
The chairs in the lounge were very low, and difficult to get out of for elderly people.
- ianN5645PA (10/5): Never disappoints - We have been visiting the Imperial 2 or 3 times a year for quite a few years and have always found the hotel to create a welcoming and extremely comfortable environment. Staff are very friendly, attentive and helpful, the food is superb, rooms and public areas are spotless, the standard of housekeeping is excellent and the hotel is only a short stroll from the town centre. What's not to love?
- grannirosieh (10/5): An Amazing Hotel - So look forward to our annual break at the Imperial- such a relaxing ambiance.
The staff and food are both amazing and the weather was too!! Thankyou so much.
- dduke58 (10/5): Wonderful stay - We had a lovely weekend at this hotel. The food was excellent as always. All the staff are so friendly and we will be back later in the year.
- Heath (10/5): Beautiful Hotel - Staff were both professional and friendly. Beautiful old hotel, very relaxed atmosphere. We found the bed quite uncomfortable, that's only our personal opinion, we like a softer mattress, saying that the bed was of a high quality.
- K2841TQmaryg (10/5): Amazing stay - As part of a coach trip, this has got to be one of the best we have stayed at. The staff were brilliant, very attentive, polite and nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious, four course meal every night if you wished. Everywhere was spotless and comfortable. The attention to detail was amazing.
The only complaint was that the lift had broken down the week before, so this did cause some difficulty for some people which I am sure will be dealt with shortly.
Thank you to all concerned for a lovely holiday.
- 605stanleyw (10/5): Imperial Hotel - Just returned home from another excellent stay at the Brend Imperial Hotel in Barnstable. This hotel continues to excel and you are given first class friendly service throughout which is also complimented by fantastic food. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting North Devon.
- su51bee (10/5): Short break - We enjoyed our short break at the Imperial Hotel. The breakfast and dinner were delicious with plenty of variety. Comfy bed . Refurbished bathroom with walk in shower was lovely, very well thought out with plenty of room for toiletries. Thank you for a comfortable stay.
- 1884county (10/5): Excellent hotel - Fantastic family run hotel, excellent service lovely relaxing hotel and wonderful food, excellent location and views of the river.
Unfortunately Barnstaple is not as good as it used to be shops closed, but that’s the same in many many towns now but a very good department store.
- NeilD753 (10/5): Lovely hotel in a great location - Excellent stay in an excellent hotel, in a great location. Great staff and service. We had a river view room, which was lovely.
- NorthStar800098 (10/5): Always an excellent place to stay - We come back time and again to stay at this hotel because it always maintains its high standard of service. The positive staff who are so professional, the amazing food and the general atmosphere of this hotel always sends you home feeling relaxed.
- rogeraZ4566AC (10/5): Amazing break with Friends - An outstanding hotel - All the staff were well trained, friendly and efficient.
The meals in the restaurant were of a very high quality, - good choices at Breakfast and Dinner
- sallyc684 (10/5): Really excellent 2 night stay - A very warm welcome at Reception, a very nice and very clean room, fabulous service across the whole hotel and really excellent food (both breakfast and especially dinner). We couldn't have asked for better!
- Williams (9/5): A most enjoyable break - Thought our stay was extremely comfortable and staff very welcoming A shame the lift was not in operation but this did not spoil our visit
- ian (8/5): -
- rayA3060KX (10/5): Luxury, comfort and service - If you want luxury, comfort and great service then come here. Food is good and plentiful and changes every day. Staff are very friendly and go out of thier way to ensure you have everythong you need.
- 796geoffg (10/5): First class accommodation and service. - From telephone booking and throughout visit, everything was excellent! Very comfortable, well
appointed room, service in restaurant, lounge and bars was always polite, friendly, professional
and efficient! Not our first visit, we will doubtless seek to come again!
- fieldjohn51 (8/5): Weekend minibreak - The old-fashioned ambiance and unfussy service made our stay very enjoyable. The staff were extremely attentive and always helpful.
- Anita (10/5): Definitely recommend - Great location
Lovely food
- davidaN4020MA (10/5): Indulgent weekend - We thoroughly enjoyed our our valentine weekend stay. Everything from room food and service was excellent and could not be faulted in any way. Looking forward to going back again.
- marcia565 (10/5): Excellent service and amazing food - A beautiful hotel in a good location. The staff are exemplary and made us feel valued. Lovely rooms and top quality food.
- jfclaxton (8/5): A gem in the Brend Collection - An excellent hotel for food comfort and service. A good location for seeing the sites and beaches of North Devon.
- Y8856HOtonyc (10/5): A romantic weekend - A top quality Hotel in every way. Service amenities food and drink all good value. The tasteful and appropriate live music from the male crooner on Friday evening, the saxophonist and the female singer on Sunday evening made the Valentine's weekend even more special. This Hotel sets the the "bar" at a very high level at an acceptable cost.
- Shane (10/5): - The hotel was clean, spacious and perfectly located as a base to get around the local area. All the staff that I met were warm and friendly. My room was large, airy and bright and had a first class walk in shower and bathroom facilities. It was also very quiet, leading to 3 great nights sleep. Nothing
- _jon_a_white (10/5): Excellent - Excellent food and service in a lovely hotel. Dinner, bed and breakfast package was great value for money.
- peterhQ5585MX (10/5): As good as ever - We thought that post Covid the menu would be shorter and there would be fewer staff but everything was still at the high Brend Hotels' standard. It's worth paying a bit extra for a river view if you are spending a lot of time indoors.Sadly the town centre is suffering from several nearby supermarkets. Local bus services are nearby with a good service to Bideford and Ilfracombe. If you are capable of getting to the top deck you have glorious views of the Devon countyrside.
- andyandmau87 (10/5): Who needs a second home when you have The Imperial - We always look froward to our visit to The Imperial, and have never had a bad experience. Staff are always please to see you, make you welcome, and undoubtedly would do anything that you need. A very bice touch is that they have a record of "dietary requirements" ana will say if something may not be suitable. They will always offer an alternative, and/or mix and match to suit taste. Bedrooms are great especially if you get a front room with a nice view of the river. The hotel is exceptionally clean & well maintained.
- edmarisnow (10/5): Great place to stay - As part of the Brend group we have come to expect high standards, lovely rooms, great food and friendly atmosphere. We were not disappointed. Everything about this place reflects the attention to detail by the friendly professional staff. I could go on but I think you get the picture. Barnstaple itself has upped its game with new shops etc. So this hotel on the edge of the town is the ideal stay.
- Ksp57 (10/5): Fabulous stay - Excellent hotel. Lovely welcome. Comfortable room. Spotlessly clean. Comfy bed. Lovely towels. Food Excellent. A very relaxing visit. All staff helpful and smiling. Will def return
- NICOLA (9/5): -
- 312JohnK312 (10/5): Lovely place to stay - Warm, comfortable traditional hotel with all amenities in the centre of Barnstaple with lovely river views, excellent food and service.
- Steven (9/5): Very good - All good Location old world charm
- johndO7089RM (10/5): excellent hotel and staff - we have been to this hotel on several occasions and and it never drops it's high standards. It's our favourite Brend Hotel
- Fr Gary (9/5): Warm, comfortable and ideally situated, we would very happily return. - So convenient for the Railway Station (we arrived by train and walked) and the Bus Station, the hotel is immaculately presented with comfortable lounges and a lovely first floor seating area looking out over the river. The staff were friendly and the food excellent. Nothing negative to say
- Explore40359349115 (10/5): Fantastic Hotel - We visited over 20 years ago with my husbands parents and now revisiting as often as life allows. It is the best in our opinion, all the staff are attentive, polite and do a fantastic job. The food is always delicious and the thing
we go for as that really is exceptional! The evening dinner menu makes choosing difficult as you would really like a bit of everything. There is a well equipped bar for pre dinner drinks and nibbles. The rooms are beautifully decorated and well furnished with some lovely extras a bowl of fruit, a sweet little box of the most delicious chocolates and fresh milk, bottles of water, orange juice, even a small bottle of fizz! The bathrooms are roomy and well equipped with everything you need. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- Katherine (9/5): -
- DEBORAH (10/5): -
- Rob (9/5): - Entourage, personeel, service, goed ontbijt
- Denise (9/5): Great hotel. Would have been super if we had eaten evening meal elsewhere - Breakfast great but we only have cereal and fruit. Location lovely but the Bistro at hotel had no windows and felt claustrophobic. Food quality in hotel bistro, poor but pricey. Main restaurant had lovely view but too expensive for us.
- F3311EDrichardt (10/5): A Great Place to stay. - We travel widely. This is the best hotel we ever stay in. Traditional high level provision. Excellent staff, rooms, food and facilities.
- Libralass (10/5): Perfect in every way! - This hotel offers everything! Lovely rooms, polite and efficient staff, great 4 course dinners, perfect breakfast, free WiFi and car parking, overlooking River Taw in heart if Barnstaple near other seaside towns
- Nomad59434133995 (8/5): An ageing typical UK Hotel - The room was not up tp expectation as I have outlined before. The restaurant, although the service and were excellent, was too over crowded..
- roncL5024PE (10/5): New Year Celebration Break - We had an amazing three night stay for New Year. Meals and service were excellent. DJ/disco was brilliant, other entertainment including the quiz were great fun.
- Traveler43375725823 (10/5): New year festive break - A lovely three days. Excellent service from staff at all levels, who worked so hard to make our new year break so enjoyable. Hotel was well decorated for the event, room was so nice and the food exceeded a five star rating in my opinion. This is the second time we have spent new year at the Imperial, and we are booking again for 2026.
- Paul (9/5): -
- kpearce245 (10/5): Christmas stay - The whole Christmas stay was perfect. Food & staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble.
Only criticism was that the tables in the dining room were too close together.
- Kelly (10/5): -
- effs (10/5): Such a treat to stay at The Imperial Hotel - This was our first time at the Imperial, we loved it. We went in early December. Really enjoyed their wonderful Christmas decorations, including a huge sparkly Xmas tree outside ... the food & service from staff was exceptional. Loved all the little seating areas upstairs where you could sit quietly and read, or just admire the views of Barnstaple over the river. We also discovered a stunning river walk - in nearby Rock Park. The hotel is right in town and my disabled husband was easily able to access the shops etc. Barnstaple is really worth exploring, it has a few independent interesting shops and a great department store (Banbury's) - the town was a bit run down in places, but we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience! Thank you.
- Gill (9/5): Very convenient for Barnstaple and visiting relatives - Breakfast was wonderful Less old people but then we are also in that category ourselves.
- Wanderer31900016317 (10/5): Award winning hotel - It's well worth a stay, excellent service, very warm welcome, friendly atmosphere.
Location is in Barnstaple.
Easy parking in private car parks, one with barrier for security and cctv.
Shops easy access, short walking distance from the hotel.
Over the Christmas period the hotel looks spectacular with festival decorations.
- L1086HWianr (10/5): Serendipity! - A very unique hotel to stay in. Service exceptional, food wonderful, always hot and very fresh.
Lovely bedrooms, very clean and well furnished. We can’t fault anything about this hotel, which is rare these days with all the cut backs. A very well done to everybody, we shall definitely be back soon. 😄
- Simon (10/5): -

- Marcitita (10/5): -
- Trip725673 (10/5): A wonderful break - A relaxing stay with great food. I chose a small double room which was more spacious than I expected. Staff were all so friendly and helpful.
- Seaside47329575261 (10/5): Mums and Daughters Festive Break - A beautiful traditional hotel where ALL the staff work extremely hard to provide excellent service. Fabulous quality food. We all enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning. Brend hotels never disappoint.
- Lesley (9/5): It was very good - lovely staff - very attentive.use of the nearby leisure facilities includingswimming pool and sauna w - Lovely old building. I did like it - Smashing breakfast. Fruit on the table when we arrived was very nice too. I did like it - i’d rather see real flowers on the breakfast table or none at all though! So nothing to complain about!
- Nick170 (10/5): Another great stay! - As 'regulars' at The Imperial, delighted to say that the service has always been faultless and the dining excellent. We will as ever be back in due course. 'Old fashioned' service at its best.
- Susan (10/5): -
- Traci (9/5): -
- Angell (10/5): - We had a small double. It was one of the best rooms we have ever had A ceaser salad that was spoilt by an overload of dressing. Quite unpleasant!
- Mark (9/5): -
- I3865VQsteve (10/5): An excellent visit as ever - As regular visitors to this hotel for over 20 years its standards are as high as ever. The quality of accommodation, service and food are excellent. Well done to all of the staff whether long serving or new.
- Jet51037955503 (10/5): lovely hotel - Went to this hotel as part of a coach party. Excellent hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Food was good and plentiful with plenty of choice. During our stay the hotel was decorated for Christmas and the result was gorgeous. This hotel is also very convenient as it is within walking distance of Barnstaple town. Room was clean spacious and very warm. I can fully recommend this hotel.
- NeilD753 (10/5): Excellent hotel in a great location - We love staying at this hotel, the service and food are excellent. Great location and facilities, with on site parking and support for EVs.
- 60786keagz (6/5): Average stay - Good customer service - Overall an average stay, lovely customer service so couldn't fault the staff at all, however the rooms and decor could really use an upgrade, especially for the price we paid. Creaky old floorboards kept us awake at night from passing trade outside the room, and no air-con in our room made it stuffy and hot.
- Lubini (9/5): - Service was great.
Corey and Jess in particular were very professional and welcoming...as were the rest of the team I encountered
- Lisa (6/5): Pretty place lovely staff - Lovely staff beautiful hotel The bed was a bit hard
