- judy (10/5): A perfect place to stay! - The river Lodge was one of the best places we have ever stayed. Dani was an excellent host and very helpful. I had a bad cold actually strep throat and he was helpful in arranging for a doctor‘s visit and my husband lost a crown and he made arrangements for a dentist. Our room was quite lovely, well appointed, and the bathroom was very modern and updated. Excellent shower and extremely comfortable bed. The room actually had a toaster, coffee maker, small heater, refrigerator, etc. Our breakfast was delicious and he was willing to cook eggs or anything else that we asked for. The grounds were impeccable, with many flowers and beautiful trees. There was a comfortable sitting area as well, by a fireplace, and although we did not use it while we were there, it was available to us. He gave us a good recommendation for a restaurant which we enjoyed. This is a wonderful place to stay and we highly recommend it. Nothing

- Gudrun (10/5): Fantastisch! - Alles war bestens. Daniel ist extrem gastfreundlich und sehr hilfsbereit. Die Lage ist sehr friedlich und ruhig. Das Haus hat Charme. Das Frühstück ist besonders toll. Es gibt liebevoll angerichtete Teller mit Obst, Wurst, Käse und frisch zubereitete Eierspeisen. Hier bleibt kein Wunsch unerfüllt. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Daniel war auch behilflich bei der Organisation des Busses zum Tongariro Crossing, der einen an der Lodge abholt und zurückbringt. Super Service. Nichts

Daniel ist ein großartiger Gastgeber mit guten Tipps für Ausflüge etc. und umsorgt seine Gäste. Man fühlt sich sehr wohl! Das Frühstück ist großartig. Es hat an nichts gefehlt.

- Janet (10/5): We won’t forget Mt Ruapehu emerging from the morning mists, seen from our window, nor later walking some of the many tra - We stayed in a beautifully appointed huge bedroom with walk in robe and bathroom and a shared balcony. The older style property is well maintained. Our room also had a fridge, microwave, plates etc. We made use of both the house’s well equipped kitchen and the outside bbq area to cook our evening meals. There are plenty of outside or inside furnished areas to use as well. Ohakune is a pretty town close by, with a car, & had several nice eateries. Daniel is a fantastic, really helpful host and the breakfasts are superb and served in a delightful room with garden views. Nothing. It exceeded our expectations.

We had a large beautiful room, very comfortable bed, lovely bathroom and a balcony with a wonderful view of the mountain. We had fabulous breakfasts and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The only downside is that it is quite remote - about a 10 minute drive into Ohakune.

- Maurice (10/5): Great stay if you want to hike Tongariro - We loved this stay. It was a perfect spot if you want to hike Tongariro. The hosts were extremely accommodating and helped us with our transport to and from Tongariro. We were able to organise the shuttle bus to pick us up and directly drop us off at the hotel. Breakfast was great, with plenty of food and drinks. We wish we could have stayed longer.

Daniel is an Uber host. Incredibly helpful and friendly. His breakfast is plentiful and sets you up for a day in the parks. Our bed was very comfortable. Our room was large with a balcony.. with that view! Nothing of note.

Daniel’s warm brand new chalet with hot water jacuzzi and nice wine made our day in those raining days. Oh and my son loved Netflix too! Highly recommend, it’s the best accommodation in the area, will not need to look else where if we come ski again in Whakapapa and Turoa.

We loved the fireplace and the spa pool at night with no light pollution the stars were bright and beautiful. The country surrounds and gardens are stunning. A great location, very close to Ohakune township, a few minutes drive. A delicious and beautiful breakfast served daily, thank you Dani for being a warm welcoming host. Highly recommend, we can't wait to come back and stay!

- Fokianos (9/5): Superb - Tidy, beautifully made cabins. The manager/owner of the bussines is a very friendly and fun person, always willing to help. Views of the mountain and the surrounding urban land are very beautiful. Beakfast was nice. The fireplace kept the cabin very warm at night. Hot tub was real fun, too. The bed pillows were too stiff for my taste. The access for Raetihi Ohakune Road is dangerous (Mangawhero Road access is righ on a bend!). Water pressure is low, but is something expected for the location of the accomodation. Internet is slow and limited to a fw GB per day.

The hosts are fantastic, great vibes all round! The included breakfast was delicious and we had all the amenities we needed. Well worth the price and experience away from a chain hotel. The setting is so green, relaxing and warm. We slept so well as it was so quiet. Highly recommend you stay here if you are planning to hike the Tongariro Alpine Crossing - Dani can organise a direct shuttle to/from the track for you. Nothing - it was all great.

The cottage was warm, immaculate and smelled of cedar wood. The sheets were lovely quality. The breakfast was delicious. The optional extra alpine bath outdoors was well worth it after a day at the snow. Highly recommend this beautiful hidden gem.

- Verified traveler (10/5): - We stayed in a self contained chalet and really enjoyed it, especially the wood fire which kept the chalet warm all night even though it was very cold outside. Our host Daniel was superb! He found maps for the bike trails we wanted to do, gave us tips on great places to eat out (and discount vouchers). He provided a delicious rich continental breakfast both mornings and told us about a place we could visit on our way back to Wellington (Whitecliffs Boulders near Mangaweka). We did just that and it was well worth the walk.

My colleague and his wife had stayed at the establishment some ten years ago and their recommendation was made confidently and without hesitation. We only stated for two nights allowing us access to the mountain and its many wintertime attractions. We would recommend however that the main entrance be signposted and have better lighting because we found it difficult to find during night time conditions. We found our host Daniel welcoming and a delight to talk to. Our best wishes from Upper Hutt.
