Guest Reviews
- M3998MGruthc (2/5): Physical keys, not safe - Loved the hotel until during the night, someone used a key to try and enter our room. Only the chain lock saved us. The management's response was that someone got confused abut which was their room. They do not know how many keys have been made for each room nor who has the keys. The dead bolt lock in our room was installed only on the inside, not the outside of the door. There was no dead bolt, only the handle to let you think that the dead bolt had been thrown.
- dlambart (2/5): Disgusting!!!! Filthy and Roach infested!!! - The motel being outdated was the least of my worries. The room was filthy, bathroom walls were caving in and has roaches!! We were afraid to sleep under the covers or on the bed. Woke up at 6am to use bathroom and several roaches were in there!!! Packed up and left immediately. Knocked on owners doors to turn in key and let them know, but they were not concerned at all!! Do not recommend and would never go back!!!
- KatPhishKY (2/5): No - Just NO! - I can't understand how this motel can have a 4 star rating for cleanliness. Seriously, has nobody besides me ever stayed in room 11? The photos the motel has posted show pretty, pristine rooms. Compare my pictures to theirs and you will be shocked. The spider and ants in the bathroom didn't show up on my photos. The refrigerator buzzed loudly every time it kicked in and the heat would come on for about and minute then go off for about a minute. Over and over and over. Staff was friendly enough and location is within walking distance for the train, restaurants and tourist things, but all that isn't enough to make up for the nasty room.
- bethmL9228BE (10/5): Coming up Roses at the Rosewood Inn - Rosewood Inn rescued me from a truly horrific Airbnb reservation. Owner/front desk Api was so helpful in planning my time that two nights became four. My king bed in the spacious unit was comfortable and the grounds with roses were very charming. This 1953 era auto court style property reminds me of family vacations many years ago. Housekeeping by Verna was good. Folks, it is not pretentious in any way, but it is genuine in every way. During my visit I thoroughly enjoyed Great Smoky Mountain Railroad trip, two days hiking and exploring the nearby GSMNP - Cades Cove, Clingman’s Dome, Deep Creek hiking to three falls, Swain County Museum, and the town of Bryson City. Allow plenty of time in the NP. Roads are slow and curving. I saw two bears, multiple turkeys and deer. Fall colors were starting to show. All good!
- angelbL2839JP (4/5): It served its purpose - We stayed 1 night in September. It was so overpriced. 150 for the night. It did not have a phone in the room. The toilet kept stopping up so my husband walked to the office to inform them and he came back with a plunger they handed him. It did serve its purpose, but it definitely was not worth the price.
- bikerbob719 (2/5): ROACH SIGHTING - Arrived at the motel around 7:00 P.M.after taking the train ride in Bryson City. Stopped in our room, #4, long enough to wash our hands and faces before going out to dinner. While sitting on the bed connecting our phones to their WiFi, had a ROACH crawl up on top of the night stand right next to the bed we were sitting on ! Tried to kill it and it got away. And this with all the lights on in the room ! Where there's one, there's more. Packed everything back into the car immediately, went to dinner, then turned our key in. Made another reservation while at dinner for another room 30+ miles away in Maggie Valley. we were NOT HAPPY !
- beachwatcherFl (4/5): Rm 16 Bathroom will not accomodate real people - See photos of bathroom sink overhanging toilet seat. No plug-ins in horrid bathroom with ants in the tub. Even the door to the bathroom would not shut. We stayed as we had a group and they had normal bathrooms/they liked our riverview deck but wouldn't swap. Overall, the entire property is shabby and hanging on by more caulk and paint than anything else. We will find another place next time.
- sharkbait0701 (10/5): Quite and clean. - Quaint Hotel. Has a nice warm bed and hot shower. After a day on the trail it was nice to come back and relax. Room has mini fridge and microwave it kept our drinks cold. It is within walking distance to IGA and restaurants. Check in was pleasant, AP is really nice and friendly.
- Wade (10/5): - The Motel was old but very comfortable and well located within Bryson City. The manager was very helpful and friendly. He had a map available of Bryson City with restaurants and other available areas of interest. He was most helpful. I would recommend this motel to others.
- Spowerguy (10/5): Love this place! - This is a very quaint, older motel. I absolutely loved this place. The owner was the nicest man ever!. It is small, its not luxurious, it has not had any kind of "makeover" or remodel in a while but it was clean. Most importantly, it was warm on a cold December weekend. Our room was small but plenty of room for the two of us. I will definitely make this my place to stay when visiting Bryson City. The price is low and the accomodations are quaint!
- G6931KUanns (10/5): A Weekend getaway ♡ - Simplicity...loved it!!! Walking distance of the shops & restaurants. Our room had the essentials --- bed and shower. That's all one needs for a couple's getaway ♡ The owner made us feel welcomed (can't find that at just anywhere).
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Close to all our activities, resturants, gas, very scenic.
- rmtraveler5 (4/5): Old Motor Court - This is an OLD motor court in downtown Bryson City. Great location for all the activites… especially to ride the Polar Express. Near several good restaurants and lots of shops. The motel was acceptable (barely) in that the beds were comfortable and the rooms had a frig, microwave, and tv with Directv service. Bathrooms needed major updating and there was mold and mildew on a lot of the tiles. The manager (AP) was very hospitable and friendly. I am not comfortable in recommending this motel to a friend
- Karen (10/5): - Very clean vintage motel that is within walking distance to everything. The staff are warm and welcoming.
- Farmerfam97 (6/5): last minute reservation - We originally had reservations at a different local motel in Bryson City but, upon arrival, found that there was no record of our reservations. We had to scramble to find two rooms at 6 p.m. on a Friday night. AP, the manager at the Rosewood Inn, was very helpful. We were able to arrange two rooms for two nights. We were thankful to have rooms available at the last minute. The rooms were basic, old and outdated but clean. The bed in our room (room 12) was comfortable. There was a mini fridge and microwave. The towels were very thin. If you are looking for something modern and updated, you may not be interested in this location. If you are looking for a good location with a wonderful host but not too picky about the accommodations, you may be satisfied. We were pleased that we could walk everywhere we wanted to go in Bryson City from our location.
- RoyalmarcReviews (10/5): Wonderful hidden gem! Thank you AP! - My wife and I came to Bryson City with another couple to celebrate a birthday and all 4 of us had a wonderful time staying here. The management staff is off the charts as far as service, friendliness, professionalism, making you feel welcome and at home...thank you AP (general manager)!
I will forever stay here when we come up to play at the nearby casinos. It’s a pretty quick drive to the casinos and it’s a short 3-5 minute walk to the charming Bryson City downtown shops and restaurants. The rooms are not fancy but are very charming and super clean! Crisp sheets, clean towels, never saw any bugs inside or out. No weird smells that might be expected from a 1940’s motel.
I would have never stayed here if it wasn’t recommended by a friend but I am sure glad I did and I will continue to stay here as long as the ownership/staff doesn’t change, they made our stay so wonderful.
- TomA589 (4/5): Nice owners, good location, that's about it. - Rosewood Inn is not for everybody. I would have given it only one star except for the fact that the owners are very nice people. That, and the location, is the only positive thing about the motel. It is very old and run down (but clean). Needs a lot of updating that simple painting will not correct. One other review said their knees were under the sink when sitting on the toilet. I thought she was going a little overboard…she was not. Maybe a different room other than our “river room would have been better. Very nice owners but, next time we will stay elsewhere.
- jmf_davis (6/5): Very old and outdated - When I booked this online, I thought this would be a nostalgic type mountain retreat for a quick visit to Bryson City. It is old..rundown old, tired, and in desperate need of repair to get it even to nostalgic status. It feels more like a 50s motel that hasn’t been structurally maintained since the 50s. We booked prepaid for two nights...forfeited the last night and moved to another hotel. Now Bryson City isn’t exactly a metropolitan area with a multitude of places to choose from to stay and most of your other options are comparable to the Rosewood if you’re staying downtown. It wasn’t for me though and I won’t be staying there again
- Rds683 (10/5): Great Place to Stay - We have been coming to Bryson City for years and we always stay at the Rosewood Inn. If you are looking for fancy then keep driving. If you want clean, comfortable, family friendly and awesome customer service that makes you feel at home, this is the place. There is nowhere there that we would rather stay. Can't wait until next time.
- V8830UUdavidw (10/5): A FUNKY 1960'S STYLE MOTEL - If you are a 5 star hotel person keep driving. The Rosewood Inn is a throwback to days past. It is clean and comfortable with hot showers and a friendly owner. An easy 3 minute walk to downtown and if this is your style you will love it.
- jennifer (4/5): - For 2 people, one bath towel, no extra roll of toilet paper ( had to go to housekeeping) and a dirty sock was found under the table. Will not stay there again. Location was great and bed was comfortable.
- Cheryl (8/5): Nice Place. - I thought the Rosewood Inn location was fantastic. We didn't spend much time in the room so hard to review but it was very reasonably priced downtown and clean.
- CBG327 (6/5): One Night Stay - This hotel is Quiet and has a location convenient to shops and restaurants. Staff are friendly. Inn also seemed both safe and clean during our brief stay. However, be prepared for a vintage look that comes with significant plumbing problems. Our bathtub was barely usable due to problems with settling.
- C (6/5): Good for a night - Vintage look good price scary bathtub.
- jgwisdom (6/5): Great location, easy to walk to town and the GSM Train. - There are good things about this motel. First and foremost, it is right downtown, and it is very easy to walk to restaurants, shops and the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad Train. It is also affordable (my price was $66 with tax). Rooms have a fridge and microwave. Also they have a nice size flat screen TV. Overall it was clean and well stocked with towels, soap, shampoo, etc.
But it is old, and the bathroom in my room was beyond small, it was a joke. You had to stand between the commode and tub to close and open the door! The sink is about right in your lap if you use the commode. Clean yes, old and needs an update, yes sir. The pink wooden slatted doors that are in front of the room door are also just weird. Trim around the walls is in need of painting in the room I was inn # 5. Base of the lamps has rust or something on them, and needs a good cleaning.
But, for $60 bucks....good enough for me by myself!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Super cute, great location - Great location, walking distance to the train and restaurants.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - For a budget motel I was pleased. The faculty was nice and the room was clean. I would recommend this place to a friend whom wanted to get away and not spend a fortune. I would stay again myself!!!
- chplhill2015 (10/5): Stayed here countless times. - New ownership, hotel is being remodeled. Stayed in one of the redone rooms. It was excellent. This is within walking distance to everything in town. The new owners are very accommodating. This is an old school MOTEL not the Hyatt. Know what you are getting into. Its a bargain and its a good one at that. The pool is very nice, but huge. I really do like this place. Some of the rooms have balconies overlooking the river.
- Carol (6/5): Would not recommend - The room was clean & the bed was comfortable. It is very run down, needs lots of TLC. I will make another selection when visiting the area in the future.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Close to town - Very basic motel but clean . Nice to have small refrigerator in the room. Good location for activities in Bryson city.
- Collin (10/5): Did what I needed - I wanted a clean convenient relatively inexpensive place to stay. This is it.
- Zachary (8/5): Great location and price - This was my first time here, but I stay and cheap hotels all over the mountains during the winter for weekend hiking. The Rosewood does not stand out good or bad in terms of the rooms, but the location is outstanding. Within 5 minutes you can walk to Mountain Layers Brewery and 10 min to Nantahala Brewery. Plus all of the other restaurants are between 5-10 min walk, which is great. It allowed me to drink a couple more beers than normal and walk back to the hotel. The room was small but I found no issues. The shower water heat did vary, so keep that in mind.
- Karen (4/5): Not as charming as pictures - Two major problem areas : Bathroom very outdated with stained tub and cracking floor
2. Heating/Ac system very loud and annoying
Also asked for an iron(didn't work ) no hair dryer in room
- norman (10/5): - bathroom was small. everything else ok.
- Corey (10/5): Great place to stay in Bryson City! - Yes the decor is dated (lots of paneling), but the place was immaculately clean and unlike many small hotels the bed was incredibly comfortable! Our room also had a microwave, fridge and huge flatscreen tv! The staff was really friendly and the location is in easy walking distance to downtown Bryson City, with restaurants right around the corner. We’d stay there again!
- Texan Gal (8/5): Clean, convenient lodgings - From the looks of it, Rosewood Inn was once a motor court. The rooms and facilities are older, so high-maintenance humans or anyone who demands luxury would not be impressed. Although it was not fancy, our room was extremely clean and our king-size bed very comfortable. The manager (whose name is "A.P." according to the business card at the front desk) was extremely courteous, friendly, and helpful. The inn is within a few minutes' walk to downtown Bryson City. If all you're looking for is a clean, convenient place to sleep at a good price, Rosewood Inn fits the bill!
- Robin (4/5): Needs updated - The hotel was old and needed updated. The mattress was worn out and there was mold on the bathroom walls.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Old hotel needs renovation bed is comfortable though. Water was cut off in the morning due to busted pipe I know it’s beyond the management control but I wasn’t take a shower even wash my face that I check out early
- alex (8/5): Clean and convenient - Overall, a convenient, clean albeit old inn with wonderful staff. My only complaint is the super small bathroom. It needs a bifold door so you can access the shower. Very cramped.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Perfect location. Bathroom is a little small, but manageable.
- Pepper (8/5): Old, but charming. - This hotel is very old, but it is clean and close to town. My husband's family stayed here 50+ years ago when it was Meyers Tourist Court. The little porches on the 4 rooms in the back out over the river are from bygone days. It was memorable for my husband, which made it special.
The king size bed was very comfortable. The bathroom is a little small, but for one night it was fine. The water pressure was impressive. Overall, wonderful stay.
- Danny (10/5): Really Convenient to shopping and beds are GREAT!! - Went to Bryson City, NC to see a Home we are looking to buy!! Our regular Motel was booked so we picked Rosewood Inn!! The Lady that checked us in was real nice and the room was clean and spacious. Will be using Rosewood Inn again!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great location for Train Access - Loved how close it was to the GSMR. Worked out great. Neat little older motel
- Verified traveler (4/5): OK close to facilities and interstate. - Room was basic fridge and microwave old and there was a leak in bathroom ceiling, rain water had left a puddle.
- Claudia (10/5): You're not a customer, you're a guest... - This hotel had fantastic service. The owner was super nice and very helpful, he greeted me with "when you stay here you are not a customer, you are a guest in my home." This trip was full of crazy incidents but the hotel owner was very kind and helpful when the incidents occurred. For example, I left my expensive memory foam pillow and he mailed it back to me; I'm not sure many hotels would do that.
- Shannon (8/5): - Very clean. People very helpful. Nice find out back by the river -a picnic table on a deck. Parking was very tight.
Door's needed a bit more cleaning attention. That's where all the germs are...
- nonnie (4/5): Uncomfortable - Had to wait almost an hour for someone to get there to check us in. Air conditioner did not work, ice machine broken, bed not comfortable and the whole place was run down.
- Michelle (8/5): Would stay again for the money you can't complain - Went for the casinos
- Cathy (6/5): close to downtown - this is an older motel, needs a lot of updating. But have to say the motel was quiet, nice staff, very accommadating and pleasant. the rooms were clean and the rockers on the porch were very nice. there is no extras like coffee pot in room although available at office. no hair dryers. you just don't pay for the extra amenties. nice place to stay if you are just going for the night or a few days.
when we were there the ice machine was not working but the front desk gave us ice.
- Chuck (6/5): - It's and old motel and could use major renovations. On the flip side it was clean and comfortable.
- andrew (10/5): Old hotel but loved it! Downfall no mini fridge - Great hotel stayed here for one night before our concert at the casino. Not a far drive from casino. Only downfall to the room is there was no mini fridge or microwave. Its a very old hotel just like Bryson city is a very old town. Its a nice place to stay for a couple nights.
- Verified traveler (6/5): In the middle of Bryson city - Nice little inn in the middle of Bryson city that needs major reno.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Exactly what we needed. - The hotel manager was awesome! He was super friendly and helpful. Only issue I ran into was the outlet in the bathroom was a little difficult to use. But overall, our stay was excellent.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Rated but clean. - Don't expect a new hotel. It is dated but clean. Main feature is convenient for downtown access.
- keith (8/5): water falls - Really enjoyed my stay management was great. ..
- Ron (8/5): Great little place - This was a small older motel that the owners are remodeling. It looks very old and shady from the outside. DONT LET THAT FOOL YOU! The room inside are in great shape! Very spacious room with a great little back deck that overlooks the river. The owners are awesome! Bend over backwards to help you out. Very accommodation and a great place to stay! For the money, you can't go wrong!!!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Clean room for cheap price - Clean room had been updated. The bed could use some new pillows.Overall stay was good experience.
- Ronald (10/5): - It was very nice.
- Jeromy (10/5): A great place for famalies - A warm welcome by an exceptional staff. A safe, clean, and well run 50s era motor court.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Easy walk to town - Nothing fancy rooms look better than the outside of the hotel. Bed was fine bathroom very small but works.
- Charles (8/5): A great place to stay - My birthday weekend. Although it is a older hotel. It was very clean. Beautiful flowers were in bloom, planted outside. The clerks were very. Polite and helpful. I really enjoyed my stay, and will stay again.
- Christina (6/5): - This motel was cute-ish. Our room was spacious and comfortable, but it had yet to be updated. We had an interesting light fixture hanging just three feet over the center of the bed -- mood lighting for sure. Our friends room had been updated with no such fixture and a flat screen TV.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Not Bad At All - It was a nice place to stay for a short visit. It wasn't luxurious, but it was clean and comfortable in a nice safe area. I think it was great for the price and I would go back.
- Jim (8/5): - was a late arrival, and had no problem checking in.
- Richard (4/5): - Hotel had mildew smell& was dated.onerwas friendly and nice to work with.
- Richard (2/5): Stay somewhere else. Would not recommend. - Wifi slow to non existant. Walls and windows dirty. No coffee in room. Hotel staff had to run to apt. to get water for coffee pot in lounge. No lites in office or on sign. Area dirty. If I'd had more time I would have asked for a refund and stayed somewhere else!
- Kathy (6/5): Good for a night - Stay was nice the bathroom was very small we didn't have a refrigerator or microwave in our room and a lot of the other rooms did. I think the price was too high for the hotel. Overall it was clean but could use some updating.
- Adam (6/5): - at first glance this hotel looks a little run down, but I thought the room was very cozy once you got into it
- dale (6/5): Older but clean and nostalgic. - Friendly staff and clean room. Not the newest place but had a quaint, nostalgic feel. Would stay again and would recommend!
- Sally (6/5): Fancy pants need look elsewhere - To give you an idea of why I chose this motel... I knew before I went that it wasn't fancy and also a bit run down, but I needed a economical place to stay that was in the middle of Bryson. It was clean - surface clean. I think some of the other reviews said it was dirty, but this is possibly just because they are old rooms and haven't had any recent upgrades to the bathroom or rugs (at least our room didn't). So there's some staining in the tub and some shoddy grout patches on the tiling - for my needs on that trip, big whoop. I've seen real dirty and this wasn't it. As for the positives, the hotel staff was very friendly and attentive (although it was slightly annoying to be woken up by a phone call at 1:00 AM to ask if we wanted heat on an unexpectedly chilly night). You can tell there was some updated furniture in there however, and a large new flat-screen TV. So, I think they're trying to make improvements. I would suggest, however, if they really want to up their game, to definitely replace the rugs and update the bathrooms (probably the most important), if they can.
