Guest Reviews
- george (10/5): - A lovely lodge with excellent dining room and tavern. This is exactly what we were looking for, versus the standard small motel room or sterile Airbnb.
Clean, comfortable, and quiet. Patrick becomes an immediate friend and quickly attends to all details of the lodge. Annie runs an exceptional dining room / tavern.
- Darien (6/5): - AC unit tripped during the night.
- Mary (10/5): - More like a B&B than a hotel, only 5 rooms. Owner Patrick met us at the door, expecting our arrival and was quick to help with bags or with a restaurant recommendation. Stayed in room #1 which was huge, with a very comfortable king size bed. Place is old (1774) so floors are uneven, staircase steep and narrow but bathroom while dated is sufficient and shower is strong with plenty of hot water. Would definitely stay there again.
- Anthony (10/5): - This is a very charming inn with tons of character. The accommodations were great, but what set this place apart from others is the people. The staff were friendly, professional, and attentive. From the innkeepers/owners (Thank you Dan!) to the restaurant crew, everybody made you feel welcome. And by the way, the food was top notch.
- Mackenzie (8/5): - We had a great stay!
- Mark (10/5): - Small room with an even smaller shower but how much does this matter when you are staying in a pre revolutionary farmhouse with a great restaurant and tavern right downstairs?
Comfortable bed. Wonderful owner/hosts!
We will be back. Highly recommend!
- Martha (8/5): - We found the bed comfortable and the room nice. The only drawback was the shower and the bathroom. It was very tiny, there was no place to hang anything and the shower didn’t work well at all. It also would have been nice to have amenities in the room (such as bottled water) or perhaps fresh coffee downstairs. I felt that the room guests were rather an afterthought for the inn, although they did give us ice when we asked for it ( no refrigerator).
- Patricia (4/5): Avoid at all costs! - There was an unpleasant smell that we couldn’t source. The room furniture was a mish mash that looked like it had been sourced from numerous other hotels or businesses or a fire sale. The armchairs may have been the source of the odor as they definitely smelled off. We looked for a dead mouse or something but no luck. The plumbing “gurgled” all night long. Housekeeping walked in on us a bit after 9am while we were in bed, no knock or anything. The shower pipes “squealed” loudly the entire time it was on. We went downstairs to request a new room for the second night but there was NO ONE around the first floor of the inn, restaurant or pub. So we left the room key and just left. A staff person saw us in the parking lot and said it was his fault about the housekeeper, that he told her the wrong room number had checked out. We told him about the experience and he just said he was surprised, that people usually liked that room. Later on we emailed about our experience and They didn’t respond in any way to our request for a refund for the second night. Do NOT recommend this inn at all!
- Patricia (10/5): - We had a lovely time
- Jaclyn (10/5): - Perfect for a quick getaway!
- Nate (10/5): - Sweet antique inn. Cozy and charming. We had a very nice meal as well.
- Nicholas (10/5): - Great stay.
Owners are wonderful friendly people.
- Katrin (10/5): - A real gem!
- Lauren (10/5): - such a cute little hotel! We really enjoyed our stay and the staff was wonderful. Felt very homey. Would definitely stay again!
- James (10/5): - Nice quiet area and friendly owners. We were in room 5. The rooms are on the second floor of the tavern. A spacious room , queen bed. Dinner in the tavern was excellent. The room was very clean and plenty of parking. The shower is a little tight and I did hear some noise from the tavern because we were next to a stairwell above the bar area, but the air conditioner muffled most of it.
- Scott (10/5): - This is the second time we have stayed at Mooncussers. And my wife and I were not disappointed again! This Inn and restaurant dates back to 1773! It is just charming and the the food at their restarant is just out of this world! We come every couple years to Cape Cod to visit my aunt is East Harwich. I will always make it a point to stay here. Patrick, Annie and Damien do sunch a fantastic job and we could rate this place any higher. Just remember, we are talking abount a building that was built in 1773! There will alway be a few quirky think that pop up, but this is so much cooler than staying at one of the overpriced inns in Chatam. Their rates are very affordable for being on the Cape. Give them a shot if you want a very special and unique experience!
- Suzanne (8/5): - Staff were friendly and helpful! Lots of old Cape charm.
- Holly (8/5): - Lots of character and charm I. This 1770’s inn.
Owners were very friendly and accommodating!
- Laurie (10/5): - Owners were warm and friendly! Thanks so much
- Susan (8/5): - It was a very enjoyable stay at a very nice Inn. Staff were very friendly, accommodating and helpful to us setting up our plan to see the area. I found that since our room was above the kitchen and backed up to a storage or office space it was a bit noisy. I would stay there again.
- Michael (10/5): - Clean comfortable quiet and very friendly
- Vishal (10/5): - Very clean property and close to shopping/coffee shops. The owner was super friendly and very helpful.
- Ivy (10/5): - Everyone was very friendly.
- Lance (10/5): - Lovely 18th Century farm house with Inn and very popular restaurant on the 1st level. Close to shopping in Harwich and Chatham. Room was clean and spacious and the Inn Keepers are very accommodating and friendly to their guests.
- Gary (10/5): - A quiet, quaint, clean and hospitable little spot. Loved it. The owner Patrick was the best. Will definitely stay here again!
- Christina (8/5): - The property was nice.
- Kandee (2/5): - Lovely tavern although closed on 4th of July.
The room was clean and neat..it was quiet and peaceful. However, I was struck by the fact there was no outdoor sitting space for guests..just the tavern’s outdoor seating. I felt a bit “stuck” in the room. The owner greeted us and was friendly, but there wasn’t anyone around much during the day to ask questions.
- Dawn (10/5): - This location is nice and quiet with great views.
Staff is friendly and our room was tidy and clean!
- Cindi (10/5): Will only stay here when in Harwich - I love Mooncussers Inn. Fabulous old building but with modern amenities. Anna made us feel so welcome and Pat was so nice on our departure!
- Laura (10/5): - The restaurant and inn were really charming. The staff were really welcoming and helpful and you would never know your rooms are above the restaurant. The rooms have just what you need.
- Carol (10/5): - Hosts were lovely
- David (10/5): - The owners were so friendly. The inn might be old, but is well kept up. Loved the history of it.
- Rich (10/5): Definitely will return - Large rooms, quiet, excellent restaurant on site, friendly stsff
- Marie (10/5): - Mooncussers Tavern and Inn is a quaint and lovely New England destination. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. They went out of their way to provide me with personal amenities I needed during my stay. I had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend it.
- Cara (10/5): - Such a quaint and cozy inn with welcoming and helpful staff/owners. Will be back!
- Pamela (8/5): - Nice experience staying in a genuine old tavern. Did not dine there but the tavern was clearly a popular spot. Fairly close to many Cape Cod towns.
Would have liked more electrical outlets for laptop and phone.
- James (10/5): - Wonderful little Inn The owners were very gracious and met all of our needs. They have a wonderful restaurant and bar on the location as well. Definitely recommend to my friends. Can’t wait to go back again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely Cape Cod Inn - Check in was very personable and the owner even took the time to walk us to our room and show us around. It was hot outside but the room was nice and cool. Bed was comfy, bathroom space was ample. If we needed something, like a bucket of ice- it was promptly done! Wonderful in-house dining at the restaurant and bar below. Food was impeccable. What a fun, quaint little inn on the Cape. Wonderful vibrations here and enjoyed by both of us!
- Kaleigh M (10/5): - Great location, quiet street but close to everything. Bed was super comfortable. Room was comfortable and pretty. It is an inn and that comes with some older features like small stairs and imperfect paint. It’s all part of the charm.
We will be back again. We loved it here!
- Brenda L (8/5): - Convince to wedding in nearby town.
- Djul (4/5): I Smell a Rat - AVOID! The room had not been properly cleaned: hair on night table, nut shells on floor, dusty woodwork, black marks and a blood stain on pillow cases. The room we were in definitely needed new paint. Furnishings were also dated (scratched and stained.) The tub/shower was old - and not in a charming way. Water pressure was uneven. No bar soap provided. The hand soap was a generic liquid soap from CVS. We saw a rat outside the premises. There was almost nonexistent hall lighting. When we asked the proprietor for some financial consideration given our experience he did not budge. He treated us as if WE were the individuals with a problem. Prior to our departure he made sure to show us an email which proved he paid for an exterminator to take care of the rats. (!!!) It seems any positive reviews on google and other platforms are for the restaurant. The Inn is NOT at all up to minimum standards of lodging. AVOID!
- Wendy (8/5): - We stayed in the hotel and actually liked the restaurant a little better. Our room was very small and old. But very clean. At night we could hear the kitchen staff cleaning up under our room. There was no place to really get ice in the morning except at the local grocery store. I think what really makes the tavern nice is the fact that they have a very good restaurant other than that I probably would not stay there again.
- Matt (2/5): - Extremely disappointed with our stay here and do not recommend it. We found that the shower drained extremely slowly, so all the water backed up while we showered along with hair from inside the drain, and all the soap from shampoo and body wash. We had to stand in several inches of nasty backed up water in order to get “clean”. And on top of that the shower liner was covered in water stains and mold! When i brought someone upstairs and showed him these he told me that theyve had a problem with the water backing up and that it wasn’t something he could fix he’d have to take it apart and clean the pipe. As for the mold on the shower liner he told me it wasn’t mold. I told him i know mold on a shower liner, thats mold. He told me again thats not mold, but that they could take that liner off and put a fresh one on. When i expressed my unhappiness in paying that much to shower in backed up water and mold, he reiterated to me there was nothing he could do and we were welcome to check out. Later that night after we came back to our room we found that they had removed the moldy shower liner, but never replaced it with a clean one so we only had the curtain hanging there.
Im shocked at how little they cared about the quality and comfort of our stay, and the lack of customer service to make things right. They thought it perfectly fine for us to pay all that money to shower in backed up water and mold, or to just leave. Not very impressed with my first time using Expedia
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The inn and room we stayed in were a bit worn but quite charming. The Inn keepers were very pleasant and accomodating. Great location and the restaurant was lovely and the food was very good. Quiet and comfortable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - What a find! This place is a treasure. Will definitely ey be back!
- Aimee (10/5): Comfortable, clean and perfect for us. - Very comfortable place to stay at an affordable price in HarwichPort. Close to town. Very convenient and the owner was very nice and welcoming. Would highly recommend.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful 18 century historical place. Almost felt like i stepped back in time.
- Stephanie (8/5): Friendly inn - Staff was friendly that we interacted with. They seem.to have more of a foxus on the tavern part which is only open from i think 5 to 9 or so. We were in the area for a wedding so can't speak to food etc.....parking on site is shared with the restaurant. Location seems close to shopping and beaches in harwich.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved this place and really enjoyed our stay. It’s charming and quaint and beautiful and the tavern food was amazing. Could use a small refrigerator in room and maybe a backyard sitting area. Thank you to the owners for a very hospitable stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved the authentic sea side ambiance, and having a legitimately excellent restaurant and tavern was wonderful.
- Frank (10/5): - Our family booked all 5 rooms at Mooncussers for a weekend stay. All rooms were recently renovated, clean and well appointed. Owner's Annie and Patrick were engaging, friendly and accommodated all of our needs. We dined twice on the patio where the food was outstanding as were the wine and cocktail selections. All of the Staff were outgoing, attentive and knowledgeable, especially Alana, who served us for almost 4 hours as different family members filtered in & out for dinner or drinks. We look forward to our next visit to Mooncussers Tavern & Inn.
- Kristin (6/5): ould not recommend - Inn keepers are lovely but rooms are well worn
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely place, very wonderful service, I recommend to check it out.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The inn was wonderful and if you stay you
must make a reservation to dine at the amazing restaurant! We had a delicious relaxing meal. Can’t wait to go back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff very helpful and friendly. Wonderful inn. Restaurant was great.
- Sam (10/5): - This was such a quaint experience! Loved dining at this inn and then staying right upstairs. The owner was very friendly and made us feel at home.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I am reviewing the Inn, which is the few rooms above the Tavern. My husband and I stayed at the Inn Sunday and Monday following the PMC, a bike ride that finishes in Provincetown. Our room was spacious, and the bed was comfortable. We arrived on Sunday around 5 pm, and were directed to park in front of the property in a space dedicated to overnight guests. We settled into our room, had a light dinner in the Tavern downstairs (excellent) and retired for the night. The next day, Monday, the Inn is closed, so we had the place to ourselves. Our room was serviced while we were out in the morning, and the partial pack of beer in our room was placed on ice - a pleasant surprise.
About the property, it is a 1700's building with some quirky features. The stairs are steep and narrow, the closets are small, and the rooms have dormered windows. There are minimal convenience features, like an iron or mini fridge that a modern property would provide. There were little soaps and lotions, a mini coffee maker (no cups), a tv, king bed and wifi.
Overall, it was a bedroom with a private bath. Clean. Comfortable.
- Connor (10/5): Loved it!!! - We had an amazing experience with every aspect of this inn. Great food and a wonderful place to stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - My husband and I enjoyed our stay. The owners were very accommodating and friendly. We loved the food in the tavern. We would definitely go again.
- Edson (8/5): Amazing - The owner was very friendly the location was nice I recommend for anyone that would like to go.
- Shorebird (8/5): - The rooms are bright and nicely furnished though starting to show signs of wear. The bathroom could use help w some counterspace or shelves for toiletries so things arent constantly falling in the sink and it would be nice if bath gel and shampoo etc were refreshed daily. The hosts of the property are great and the bar and wait staff at the restaurant are awesome. The food is great and we loved enjoying the tapas and drinks. Great location off the beaten track. A pool would really add alot to the vibe of the place
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Mooncussers has a fabulous restaurant with outstanding food and service, the Inn portion of the establishment was clean and lovely. Only drawback is that it is an older Inn and in the morning we could hear other guests going in and out of their rooms.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Mediocre to bad, for sleeping at the INN/food good - There are 3 aspects to this inn & tavern.
3 of the aspects are awesome!
Those being: The tavern/food & the fancier white table clothed, much quieter restaurant.
AMAZING food, the husband of owner/couple is super friendly and aims to please whenever he see you! He oversees the food area.
The adult son oversees the tavern/bar - another AMAZING person in this establishment!
Last and by no means least, is Annie, who is the wife of co-owner (don't recall his name). She has many years in the hotel industry. Friendly, upbeat, like her husband quick to come ask you how you day is, do you need anything, etc. SUPER great family.
So, food and bar/restaurant - all great.
The 5 rooms upstairs - A for cuteness and well decorated. Most windows have been replaced, which is terrific. And unlike other reviews from 2 years ago, they now have small keurigs and a couple of mugs, creamers and a nice dorm-sized mini frig.
The issue we had was lack of CLEANLINESS. I know, I know - it's the Cape and "good help is hard to come by" but really? There were dust bunnies under our bed and the bureau = no joke, the size of which you'd expect to see in a haunted old house that's been empty for 20 years. In our freezer? AN OLD melted (so much for freezing) cup of ice cream....the mugs? you don't get new ones from the kitchen dishwasher, the cleaner just rinsed them - GROSS - I would have done that myself and not had smears of coffee remain.....matress/boxspsring old and beat up; 1 towel dirty
- Sandra (10/5): - Really enjoyed our stay here! Nice clean room. Two of our 3 nights stay the tavern/restaurant was closed so it was very quiet. Was very nice having a glass of wine at th bar and chatting with the owner and the bartender. Very friendly place.
- Julia (10/5): Nice Stay - It was our first time there. The bed was super comfortable and the room was clean. We were offered a upgrade when we got there so we ended up with a bigger room! Terry who checked us in was super helpful and the food at the Tavern was awesome!
- Gary (10/5): - Excellent room, quiet location, great host.
- Muriel (4/5): Mooncussers - Cute little place but lacks cleanness. I found a dirty washcloth in the shower, half leftover sandwich in the mini fridge, open boxes of snacks in the drawers and most importantly an unchanged fitted sheet on the bed. Spiderwebs everywhere.
Room was hot when I walked in as apparently, they wanted to save on energy in the middle of a very hot day in August.
Can't comment on the tavern as I didn't dine there. Did not want to give these people more money than I already had.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Pleasantly surprised - The room was very comfortable and worth a stay. Had dinner at the restaurant as well and the food was very good (try the burger!).
- Mike (10/5): - Great quiet location. Staff were friendly and room was clean. Reserved parking in the front. It is over a restaurant and it’s mildly noisy from 5-10pm. Not an issue. Best place to stay on the cape. Visit Harwich Port and Chatham for sure.
- Derby (4/5): Great restaurant, poor rooms - First of all the restaurant is excellent. No complaints there. Unfortunately the rooms were not comfortable. The beds were too soft and the noise from the kitchen below kept us awake until the kitchen closed down, around 11:15. Like another reviewer commented, it was like the kitchen staff were throwing plates against the wall. We tried running the fan to create some white noise and ear plugs, but still couldn't sleep. If you normally go to sleep after 11:15, this may not be a problem for you. The room was small, the bathroom was very small. The wifi was spotty, often not working at all, and when it did it was only one bar. The shower couldn't be operated without spraying water on the floor outside the shower stall. There is no soap dish and no bars of soap either. When we arrived we had to request a second towel (only one In the room) and a second coffee cup (only one as well). If you are considering renting a room, I suggest you avoid rooms above the kitchen.
- Maureen (10/5): Comfortable beds Lovely people - Bed was very comfortable to me that's most important and the room was clean. Restaurant has amazing food. In prior reviews I read people said it was loud at night. The restaurant closes at 10pm. With my air conditioner and Tv on the noise was never a problem but I don't fall asleep before 10pm most nights in general. It made me think about staying somewhere else, so glad I didn't! I would stay here again if visiting the area.
- Verified traveler (8/5): weak wifi - wifi is very very weak. had to stand by room door or be in bathroom in order to connect.
- Douglas (10/5): Great Place - Absolutely great place. Hope to get back to it some day.
- Patty (10/5): Wonderful weekend! - We had a wonderful stay at Mooncussers. The staff was so helpful. We enjoyed our room and had an AMAZING meal on Saturday night. We'd like a shout out to Lou, our waiter who was very busy but was still a joy to have helping us make selections and overall have the best dinner out. The owners love their Inn and Tavern, and it shows. Most helpful with suggestions of nearby beaches, shopping etc. Will certainly return for another weekend!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice location - Our room was great except for the mornings when the light came in at 6:30am.
They need some dark inning blinds
- Nancy (10/5): Beautiful historic Inn with a 5 star restaurant - Should not be marketed in the hotel category. This is a historic inn with refurbished rooms (we had a sitting room also) and very comfortable beds. The restaurant is excellent and it the bar area closes at 11:00 so noise upstairs in the rooms isn't a problem. Would definitely go back.
- PATRICIA (10/5): Hidden Charm - Great find at Cape Cod. Large bright, comfortable room. Friendly staff, fabulous restaurant & bar. Easy close parking. Will definitely stay again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Cape experience for my mother - My mother truly enjoyed her stay and had the best Cape experience she had imagined. Staff was great with her and accommodations were just what she wanted. Stairs were a little tight for her but she really enjoyed it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Charmng historic inn! - Quaint Inn with five rooms all with provate bathrooms, great restaurant and bar on site with excellent french cuisine. Do you know what a Mooncusser was? They were land based pirates who disabled lighthouses and made decoy lights to confuse mariners and cause ships to run aground and then they would loot the ships.
