Guest Reviews
- Rachel (6/5): Nice tidy and clean room with plenty of space. Found the town a bit dull. - Room was clean, tidy and plenty of space. Location, town didn’t have much to offer.
I heard that the breakfasts were good, found out when there that they don’t do breakfasts on the two mornings we were booked.
Only stayed one night instead of two.
- Lucy (9/5): Excellent stay - Really lovely room. Friendly and helpful staff.
- Karl (10/5): -
- Stephen (9/5): Excellent stopover in a great part of the country - Excellent stay, friendly bar, very good food including a lovely breakfast and the airy room and comfortable very large bed made a great one night stay. Can't think of anything
- Shona (10/5): Loved it and will probably stay again - It was fresh and clean , bed was comfy ,access was great and parking was great .Breakfast was good and waitress was cheery The bathroom rowel rail was really hot, and the lights flickered a bit in the bathroom
- Frances (8/5): -
- Peter (10/5): - The bed was large, very comfortable with luxurious bedding. Access using door key pads is a great idea. Amazing food at reasonable prices. Very friendly and helpful staff. Clean and comfortable. I can honestly say there was nothing we could fault
- John (9/5): Nice lovely short break would go back but hopefully have a room not looking over the neighbours - Breakfast was superb room was spotless and the food in the evening was lovely too!!
Also great we could bring the dog . The view from the bedroom window was not great this is caused by awful neighbours
Apparently because they literally played loud music and it was vibrating into our room
So i did go down and make a comment to Charles and he told me about the ongoing situation with the neighbours,
- Harry (10/5): Nothing short of perfect - The room was spacious and modern. The food was absolutely superb, we ate here both nights and both mornings. The hospitality was top notch, Lewis was especially friendly and attentive and we had the pleasure of getting to know some of the staff. The restaurant manager was so friendly and we were made to feel right at home. Their espresso martini’s were a highlight, as well as the steak pie on our first night. Sunday dinner was fantastic and they were so accommodating with my vegan girlfriend. If you’re thinking of staying here and needed a final push to book, let my review be it! You won’t be disappointed. We’ll be back! Nothing.

- Andrew (9/5): Great accommodation in a lovely spot with warm rooms, comfy beds and incredible food on offer. - I chose the accommodation based on the price, amenities (restaurant), the positive reviews and its proximity to places of interest. Plus the free parking and the fact there was only 6 rooms was also a factor in my decision. The things I look for are cleanliness and warmth (especially in the cold weather) and the room scored highly. It was spotlessly clean (cream carpets which is a brave choice) and the room and particularly the bathroom were very toasty. Nothing better than returning from a cold day out to the warmth of your room, brilliant! The staff were friendly and we were made to feel welcome but the real jewel in the crown was the restaurant. The food was absolutely phenomenal. It was so good we didn't bother eating anywhere else in the evening as we looked forward to getting back and experiencing what else was on the menu. Finally, I had probably the best sleep I've ever had anywhere. The bed was so comfy but the mattress was on the right side of firm which was perfect for me. All in all a great stay and we would definitely go back. The weather could have been better!
- james (10/5): The Old Mill is a gem. Even better than our expectations. - Lovely room, friendly staff, superb food. We loved it. Highly recommend Nothing
- Adam (10/5): -
- Ellie (10/5): Superb , clean and beautiful! - Everything about this hotel was lovely! Great spacious rooms, lovely decor and super clean! Onsite restaurant was lovely and even have a little bar area for drinks! Was so kind with our 10 month old border collie and even offered to look after him whilst we nipped to the car.
Would 100% come back to the hotel❤️ Nothing it was all great!
- Francesco (10/5): -
- Daisy (10/5): -
- Amy (10/5): Fantastic stay can’t wait to visit again - Property was gorgeous and staff very friendly. Loved the fact it was dog friendly! Rooms were immaculate and the food in the restaurant was great! Breakfast was also delicious! Great location for exploring the lakes! Nothing
- Ingrid (9/5): -
- Lynda (10/5): It exceeded my expectations …. Great value for money, Friendster staff, lovely room and really nice food - It was quirky, very clean and lovely Liked everything
- Stephanie (6/5): Would stay mid week - Nice rooms . No staff or breakfast so couldn’t get drinks or food . Was very complicated to enter building at first .
- hazel (10/5): Very comfortable, clean room & excellent evening meal & breakfast.Would recommend & stay again. - Lovely room Wanted a snack on arrival but not available, as food only available on the evening.
- Katie (8/5): -
- Jo-Dee Brice (10/5): - The bed and pillow were one of the best I've slept in! E efyhtinf was clean, modern and stylish. Nothing really. Wish there were more places to eat closer.
- Jeanette (9/5): A superb room with a delicious breakfast - Super comfy bed and a lovely large shower
Room was in excellent condition with good heating and a large TV
- Matt (10/5): -
- Tyrese (7/5): -
- douglas (10/5): One of the best hotels we have stayed in, in a long time - Clean spacious in a quiet setting, excellent nights sleep. I liked everything
- glen (8/5): Worth a visit - Service , quality of the newly refurbished accommodation and the excellent food and menu choices . The young man who greeted us and served us throughout our stay was excellent and is a credit to the establishment. Wine prices per bottle a little pricey
- Efi (10/5): Short business trip - Everything was nice and the hotel owner was very honest and accommodating. Would definitely recommend Nothing
- Tracey (4/5): Not good - Bathroom was lovely, clean & shower was very good So many hairs in the bed (dog hairs I think). Duvet had been laundered but obviously wasn’t checked before putting on bed. Shame because nice big bed & comfy. Didn’t sleep as felt itchy all night. Didn’t tell us that stopped serving dinner at 7pm. Asked for some snacks didn’t sell them ie crisps! He did make us a small bowl of chips (thank you). Charged us £3.75. Asked when breakfast was told don’t do breakfast during the week.
Again none of this info was advised when we booked. I booked this property on the basis of good reviews for the food & cleanliness but unfortunately didn’t experience either! Have put up photos of hairs but there was a lot more!
- Daniel (10/5): Great - Very nice place. Unfortunetly as I went on a Monday and bar/breakfast not available. The room was really great and very comfortable. I didnt hear a peep all night. Shower was amazing too
- Nikita (9/5): Excellent staff/service, excellent food, good location, cleanliness and decor - The decor was really nice. Loved that. Very clean! The staff were super friendly and attentive. Food was excellent for dinner and for breakfast, love that breakfast was included in the price too! Not too far from your closest town also. Dog friendly which was great as we brought our well behaved dog. However, not so great when the people that stayed in the room right next to us also brought their two misbehaved dogs that kept us up all night. We had the worst night sleep. A couple that stayed in room number 5 kept us up every hour on the hour going back and fourth throughout the night the take their dogs out and because of that it kept myself, my husband and our dog up all night. Their dogs kept scratching at the door. So may be worth checking when people are booking that their dogs are actually well behaved before coming as it ruined our stay for us here. Which is a shame as the place itself was nice. There was a couple things that need fixing in the room itself as when I went to the toilet as I went to pull on the loo roll the stand attached to the wall came off (I have a stoma bag) and this made it a little more difficult to clean up after. The fan was broken and we were absolutely boiling hot through the night too even with the windows open and some of the light switches don’t quite work properly. Really have to have a play with some of them.
But regardless of those few downfalls. It most certainly was no downfall from the staff! They were excellent and so was the food! (Even with celiac disease/gluten free) Just the noisy neighbours we had next door to us!
- Swanney (9/5): Very pleasant - Music in the bar bit too loud had to ask for it to be turned down as heard it in my room
- Stella (5/5): Disappointing - No staff
Front door appears swollen so really difficult to open and pulled my back
Floor had a spider , a little bit off a coat hanger
Mark in flannel
- Kye (10/5): Excellent accommodation with everything you need for a great night away - Was very clean and well decorated the bed was super comfy and the smart tv was a nice bonus to relax and watch some movies Couldn’t fault the property at all was an excellent place to get some rest
- Ethan (10/5): -
- Paul (9/5): A sanctuary of sheer luxury. - The light and space of the room.
The decor was beautiful, the character was present. It was comfortable and very clean. Good quality bed linen and good sized towels. Loved the ample bed and shower space.
Ate dinner & breakfast both Friday & Saturday and it was delicious. Very attentive staff.
We will return, when visiting family again. A nice touch would be to provide bottled water perhaps?
But I’m hard pushed to find fault if I’m honest.
- Sarah (10/5): - this is the 5th time we have being here. everything is amazing and the food is outstanding
will be back thank you
- Martin (9/5): - Very comfortable large room and bathroom
- Chris (10/5): Lovely an comfortable quaint country pub. - Newly an tastefully decorated. A quaint country pub with excellent food. It wasn’t made very clear on booking.com that the pub and restaurant is closed on a Monday & Tuesday which would have been very disappointing.
- Paul (10/5): The Old mill - Staff and facilities amazing, food awesome couldn't fault it.
- Gary (8/5): -
- Denise (10/5): - Staff and rooms were amazing NA
- Brown (9/5): Short stay midweek - Clean, spacious, quiet and comfortable N/A
- Daniel (10/5): Can’t wait to go again hopefully for longer - Very well situated as having not far to go for something to do
And so comfortable and cosy Can’t fault the place my whole experience was brilliant

It felt very homely and comfortable with stunning views out of our window too. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, I would definitely stay again! Thank you N/A
- Jenny (9/5): Excellent quality in every way, room, food and service - Large spacious and very comfortable room
Food amazing- very nice breakfast and fantastic evening meal
Service great with very friendly and helpful staff N/A
- Nathan (7/5): Clean and comfortable - Lovely clean and comfortable, modern room. Was able to request a late checkout for a small fee which was helpful. Dog friendly too which was important for my stay! The kitchen was closed when we arrived at 20:30 on a Thursday so we weren't able to order a meal - although the gentleman on the bar was able to arrange a portion of chips and onion rings which was good. Last orders at the bar was 21:30 which I also thought was a little early - although granted it was quiet at that time.
- sandra (9/5): Great place to stay, location good for visiting our family - Everything great, lovely room modern big bathroom clean and warm
- Ellie (10/5): -
- Duncalf (10/5): Well worth every penny, - What did I like? Everything a beautiful, welcoming and friendly place the food of such high quality,
5* is the best way to describe it
- Heather (10/5): Love, love, loved it! - Beautiful, friendly and helpful staff
Exceptionally clean and brilliantly renovated property from the beautiful and comfortable rooms to the lovely dining areas. Our evening meal was delicious and great value for money. I highly recommend this property!
- Lucock (6/5): It was very chilled and comfortable. But was stuck in the room most of the time. - The decor was absolutely gorgeous. The bed was really comfortable. The fact that it’s not close to Many amenities. Can’t get a taxi either.
- Jane (9/5): Great! - Clean, modern and comfortable.
- Neil (9/5): -
- Joe (9/5): Thoroughly lovely room, very comfortable and pleasant - Very well presented, comfortable & modern. Loved the decor Towel etiquette not recognised. Renewing clean towels needs addressing.
- Iain (10/5): - staff were very friendly n helpful. always greeted with a smile😁👌
- Gillian (9/5): Fantastic room - Booked room with dog. Absolutely lovely room and facilities amazing. Staff exceptional with remote service. Slight issue with noisy boiler outside. Good facilities for exercising the dog. Would book again. Noisy boiler outside.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - The room was very spacious and comfortable. Liked that it was electronic key access. Ample parking. No breakfast facilities during week.
- Tony (4/5): -
- Tia (9/5): A lovely, cozy hotel - It’s was a lovely room, and decorated lovely and is definitely worth its price and is the best price hotel in the area for the standard of the place. We were both in awe about how Luxury the room felt. We struggled a little getting into the front door as it was electric door and the restaurant was shut, also there wasn’t too much around especially on a Monday and Tuesday as nothing seems to be open and everything you kind of need a car to drive too which we found out the hard way 😂
- Sarah (10/5): - the hotel is amazing, very friendly staff, the food was unreal especially the fish 🐟
second time at this hotel and a will definitely be back nothing
- Andy (10/5): Short stay but wish it had been longer , myself and my wife plus Pip the miniature sausage dog loved it. Lovely evening - Fresh, friendly staff. Great food! Only that I cracked my head 3 times on the bathroom door. My fault (big sign saying watch your head) just kept forgetting to duck.
- Stephen (9/5): Enjoyable stay in a lovely country Inn. - Easy to find location, with ample parking. Nice well kept property. Easy access to the rooms through the bar/reception area. Nice bar and dining area, both dog friendly. Staff were really nice and engaging always helpful with any questions we had.
- Randall (10/5): - The comfort of the room No breakfast facilities, we stayed three nights, the restaurant was only open on the last night.
- Mercè (10/5): - Impecable
- Dominic (10/5): -
- Kirstin (8/5): Great nights sleep in a spotlessly clean and beautiful room - Beautiful huge room. Spotless and everything looked new. Such a comfortable bed and a great nights sleep.
Hosts quick to come back with suggestions for evening meal and breakfast.
Room upgrade was welcomed after a long drive.
Would definitely visit again.
We had breakfast in Marina cafe, Maryport a short drive away and highly recommend. Did not realise no facilities available on a Monday or Tuesday, as in food or drinks. Perhaps a bit more obvious on booking site.
Not a big issue for us. Perhaps a microwave and toaster in a common area would give option to heat up something for late arrivals.
- Fiona (9/5): Great little hotel, will definitely stay again. - Big room, very cheery helpful staff, and our stay was topped by a great breakfast. Minor detail, but the bar ran out of a couple of beers.
- Allen (9/5): -
- Lesley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jon (8/5): Very good -
- Joseph (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lesley (10/5): Amazing stay! - It was lovely and clean which is THE single most important thing to our group but it was also very tasteful, comfortable and the bar closing early I think is a very respectful way of allowing for a good nights rest without disturbances from late drinkers. Wine was overpriced
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional - Accommodation was lovelly had a lovelly stay food was nice staff were lovelly There was nothing we didn't like at all
- Ollie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carmel (10/5): Will def stay again if in the area - Extremely clean and beautifully decorated room - easy to access - Amy the owner was extremely helpful
- Suzanne (3/5): Although rooms were comfortable having no one on site made stay unpleasant. - Facilities was clean and tastefully furnished No staff on site at any time. No contact number to resolve problems. No hot water in morning for showers
No option of breakfast or evening meal.
- Eccles (9/5): Superb -
- Wilhelmina (9/5): Beautiful rooms very clean and modern - The food was delicious we were very well looked after the staff were very friendly All good
- Matt (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kelly (10/5): Excellent stay - Beautiful property and it was impeccably clean. The food was delicious and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
- Glyn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hannah (10/5): Fantastic stay - The staff were friendly and helpful, lovely big room, very clean. The food was amazing I liked everything about it
- Graham (10/5): Fabulous staff, always helpful - nothing was too much effort. Great food. Happy customer. - Beautifully cooked - perfect start to the day A cereal option would have been nice
- John (9/5): Good pub B&B - We used this for one night and it was a big success. The room was spacious enough and clean. They send you info in advance that allows you to check in without human intervention (but they will help at the bar). Good food available in the evening, and breakfast was very good. (Note this was a weekend - breakfast not always available). The wifi was down following a storm when we were there - these things happen....
- Stephen (10/5): Old mill inn - Room was excellent food amazing and drinks well priced staff very welcoming Nothing
- Colleen (9/5): Relaxing, and delicious ✨ - The room was exactly as pictured, spacious, clean and modern. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was lovely and on top of the rest the team were fantastic. We had breakfast on Sunday morning and booked a space in the evening for the Sunday roast, which was fantastic. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and will stay again if I find myself back down that way. There was some music coming from behind the property, not too much of an issue as the windows are well insulated, but as the weather was a bit warmer it would have been nice to have them open without the music coming through. Very very minor complaint.
- Julie (8/5): Very good - Lovely room Didn’t see another soul, all done electronically.
- Edi (8/5): Lovely place - We love coming back to the old mill.
Always such a lovely place to stay. Now that we are having a heatwave, an Aircon would have been needed. But besides that it was a lovely stay.
- Samantha (8/5): Excellent for our needs as we have 3 dogs - Room was excellent. Spacious, comfortable and clean.
Fitted us and our 3 dogs perfectly.
Car park convenient as was lovely walk for dogs directly across the road. Would’ve liked the ability to have dinner and breakfast although understand it was a Monday night and therefore not cost effective to staff the premises.
- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional - the full hotel was amazing wht a great night away bed was so comfy nothing
- Rita (7/5): Don’t stay on a Sunday night - Good We didn’t like been left alone in the property overnight with no one else about and having to lock the doors when we left
- Gary (10/5): Staff were amazing and very helpful, nothing seemed like too much hassle, very chatty and made to feel welcome as soon a - Clean, tidy, very well decorated and modern. Property was brilliant, maybe a sign post or better signage on the main road
- Clifford (9/5): Excellent. - Very clean, friendly, helpful staff. Generous good portions. Nothing.
- Silke (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michelle (9/5): Last minute overnight stay - Clean ,lovely room , bathroom to a high standard , roomy bathroom and shower all in good working order ,nicely presented and a big comfy bed
