Guest Reviews
- Joseph (10/5): - A very special place. If you want something that is an experience I highly recommend! Bernard and Ignacio are excellent hosts who have done a tremendous job in repairing and restoring this beautiful Chateau. Breakfast was superb and the view of Mt St Michel is extraordinary. Can’t recommend enough
- Margarita (10/5): Hidden Gem - Amazing from start to finish! The hosts welcomed us with a house cider toast and prior to our departure they provided an extra special breakfast for our party of 6. A lovely chateaux with lush grounds for a peaceful escape in the countryside.
- Genevieve (10/5): - if you would like an exceptional experience at a unique property, this one’s for you. The attention to detail was refreshing, and the property itself was beautiful. and the most amazing breakfast I have ever experienced.. We were treated like royalty with organic indulgences of every kind for breakfast that were local and fresh made. A table setting that was truly fit for a king. their hospitality was exceptional and help to make it a memorable trip.
- Maria (10/5): Spectacula - What a spectacular stay! The gardens, the rooms with every detail (shower is modern) of the era and the breakfast was superb. Welcome cider made at property and breakfast includes property made apple juice, apple and berries jams and honey. Endless coffee or cappuccino and wow the croissant, homemade orange cake and brioche. This was truly a unique stay!!! Thank you!!!
- Karen (10/5): - Bernard and his team were gracious and the property was spectacular!
- Donna (10/5): Words cannot describe… - Amazing property and service! Our room was beautiful and our host charming…as were the horses, dogs and peacocks that wander the grounds. We had breakfast in the most royal room-fit for royals. All in all the most wonderful stay!!!
- Kelly (10/5): - We were the only guests at the chateau. The property is beautiful and the owner very hospitable and welcoming. There are 4 peacocks that roam the chateau grounds which are beautiful.
In the morning the owner presented us with a gorgeous breakfast in his chateau dining room which was very elegant.
All considered, we would love to stay at Chateau de Chantore again. 5 stars.
- Maria (10/5): - Beautiful chateau, gardens are gorgeous, great hosts, great breakfast, I can’t say enough good things about this place.
One thing to consider is there is no afternoon or evening dining within a walkable distance. You must drive to town.
- Philippe (10/5): - This was the highlight of our stay in France. The chateau is stunning and Bernard, the host, was very friendly. You feel transported to a different time. It is remarkable. The room was spacious, comfortable and the view of the Mont St Michel from our room was the icing on the cake. The breakfast felt like something from a movie. The absolute best place to stay.
- Valeriya (10/5): - What a treat was to stay at this gem in Normandy . Beautiful peaceful piece of history . Service and accommodations were excellent. The hosts were very attentive . Delicious royal like breakfast with homemade deliciousness) Highly recommend this place if you visit Mount of st Michel that can be viewed from your balcony if you book a suite)
- Hongming (10/5): - Fantastic property - absolutely beautiful inside and out! If you are in the area try to stay here!
- MAJID (10/5): - Thank you for a lovely & romantic place, comfortable stay &excellent hospitality and & delicious breakfast! .
- Verified traveler (10/5): Not to be missed! - A very wonderful stay at the most beautifully restored and maintained Chateau. The hosts could not have been more helpful. The property is eco-friendly and every effort is made to make it feel like a home from home.
- Tony (10/5): Excellent Chateau stay! - Amazing stay! Bernard was a great host and the rooms were beautifully decorated and super clean. Excellent breakfast and great service. Would highly recommend and love to come back again.
- Sunni (10/5): - Amazing property and wonderful owner. We had the Ovale Suite. It was absolutely beautiful and the view was perfect!
- sherry (10/5): - Fantastic experience to stay such beautiful property!
- Ryan (10/5): Quaint chateau that won't disappoint. - This chateau was AMAZING! Super clean, the owner was probably the best host we've had at any of the chateau's we've ever stayed at and the decorations here were easily the best we've seen. The owner is an antique collector and everything on display was perfect for the era of the house. The amenities were superb and the breakfast was fantastic as well. Not just the normal bread and juice that you get from most of the other chateau's. There were a selection of jam's, cheese and bread. As well as egg's and many of the jam's and juices were made on the property which gave it a more homey feeling. We will definitely be back to this place soon. It was too perfect to not do it again. We only spent 1 night here and will most definitely be spending more than that next time and I'd suggest you do the same.
- Carolyn (10/5): - The property was a beautifully restored Chateau in a gorgeous park setting. Owners were delightful to visit with and saw to our every need. Highly recommend staying here for a unique experience.
- Michael (10/5): - I can't even describe how beautiful this property was. The chateau is exactly like the pictures and the grounds are gorgeously kept. The breakfasts were delicious with every item you could want; served in the lovely dining room with fresh flowers everywhere. Bernard was the perfect host, always there to look after your every need! We happily recommend staying here.
- Anne (10/5): - This was one of the best and most unique hotel experiences we have ever had! We stayed in the Marquis room and it was stunning. The breakfast was amazing and Bernard was so attentive and kind. We plan to come back!
- Jeremy (10/5): - Great owners who are very friendly and hospitable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful stay at this 18th century Chateau. We were greeted by Bernard, the owner, who did us best to make us feel at home. Breakfast was wonderful and the walk through the garden, heavenly. This is a place to unwind and relax, no tv here but there is wifi for those so inclined. But escape the 21st century for a while, its worth it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hosts were very accomodating and the facility was beautiful and interesting.
- Yasuo (10/5): - Excellent stay we have never done before. So luxuary chateau. When you visit at Mont sain t michel, recommend you to stay. 18 century traditional property and large garden. We could see mont Saint Michel at room. Breakfast was so tasty and original pomme juice also nice. I want to stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A Truely unique experience. Beautiful grounds with horses an swans. Interior is plush with antiques and in perfect condition. Best part was with breakfast. We were served food from the estate: laurel honey and apple jelly. Modern bathrooms and lots of electrical outlets. WiFi too!
- colleen (10/5): Best Breakfast Ever! - Very friendly host who welcomed us with refreshing cider and made sure the breakfast was absolutely fantastic! Best breakfast we have had this year with organic apple juice, apple cake and tasty special scrambled eggs. Followed with a relaxing walk around the lake with swans and peacocks. Highly recommend and would definitely visit again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Charming stay at the exquisite Chateau Chantore - Charismatic expert hosts Bernard and Ignaki transported us back in time to the 18th century and made us feel like a noble family staying at the exquisitely restored Chateau Chantore with fantastic view of Mont St. Michel in the backdrop. After wide research of chateau hotels, glad that we made the Chateau Chantore the choice and owner/host made our stay a magical one.
- Philip (10/5): A destination experience in its own right - A wonderful experience. The owners are incredibly welcoming. We arrived later than expected or wanted, however, upon notifying the owners of our delay, they were nevertheless warm and friendly. Moreover, they jumped into action to find us a place to have dinner at the late hour; called to reserve a place for us and ensure we would be welcome; and the dinner turned out to be the best we had in France! The premises were like staying in a museum. Nothing was missing. The beds are small, and the floors are creaky, but this is because the experience is authentic. Breakfast was over the top, and personally attended to by Bernard (one of the owners). A hop, skip and a jump to Mont St. Michel. Staying at Chateau de Chantore is its own destination experience, and we highly recommend it.
- David (10/5): - This is the best place we stayed in France during our 9 day trip in France.
- Aaron (10/5): Charming historic chateau with lovely hosts - The chateau and grounds are beautiful! Restoring it has clearly been a labor of love for the hosts. They are very welcoming. Two potentially minor drawbacks. First, it's out of the way unless like us you want to stay between Mont St Michel and the Normandy WWII sights. Second, as a historic property there's no air conditioning, so in the middle of summer the rooms get quite warm. Fortunately it cools off at night, so leave the windows open and it gets to an acceptable temperature. Overall, it's a wonderful place to stay if you're in the area!
- alOhatraveler (10/5): - Amazing stay at a beautiful chateau. The detail and attention put into this place is unbeatable. Service is impeccable. Walking the grounds are just as beautiful as the tastefully decorated interior. So wish I could’ve stayed longer!!!! Will recommend to anyone in a heartbeat .
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great accomodations and well located. Lots to do and visit. Staff is very friendly.
- Paul (10/5): - This hotel was by far our best hotel experience of our vacation. The chateau and property is authentic and impressive. The host bought and restored the 18th/19th century building and landscaping and furnished it with authentic period antiques. The rooms are spacious and comfortable (the bathroom is so large you need panorama setting on your phone just to take a photo). Breakfast was delicious and served with ample china and silverware in the formal dining room... kind of a Downton Abby experience if it were in France. The host is eager, personable, attentive and knowledgable and determined to make our stay enjoyable. I highly recommend this chateau.
- Jackson (10/5): Charming French experience - This is a wonderful and charming french getaway that is tucked away in a small village in the Normandy countryside. The room we stayed in was very comfortable and historical. It felt like we were being transported back in time in the sense that the decor was very well restored. The hosts Bernard and Inaki were warm and very helpful with local recommendations for places to visits and eat.
- Scott (10/5): Stay here! - Stay here. You will not regret it. Must have the breakfast. The whole estate, all the land included, is so well taken care of. Service is amazing. I could tell you about all the details, but others have said the same thing...and I agree.
I would love to go back and see the stone water tower in the forest, once it is completed.
We stayed on June 20-21, 2018
- Verified traveler (10/5): Amazing doesn't even fully descrive it - Bernard and Itzhaki are the proprietors of this amazing chateau and estate. And it seems they have purchased this chateau to house their amazing art and furniture collection (mostly Louis XIV-LouisXVI era). Chatting with them about all of the details of the collection, the chateau and the grounds was easily our favorite part of the stay and they willingly answered all of my many questions with enthusiasm.
Our room was stunning and well appointed with a modern bathroom and shower. The balcony overlooking the estate and Mont St. Michel was lovely.
They serve an outstanding breakfast of homemade baked goods, jams, juices, cheese and ham, as well as eggs on request. They will also point you in the direction of great restaurants nearby or make the reservations for you.
You must save time to walk the grounds. They are nothing short of stunning. Horses, swans, peacocks, a lake with a waterfall, 200 year old rhododendrons, a stable… the list goes on. In the summer it stays light until quite late, so we walked around the grounds both evenings.
They do allow small children and when we were there there was a family with a toddler who ran up and down the halls, screamed until late at night, sang throughout breakfast and left her belongings in the common hallway, which did detract from the stay so keep that in mind if it is something that would bother you.
- Kristine (10/5): Magic - Serene, stately, elegant and homely.
Hidden treasure shared by owner with his guests in a very engaging way, sharing some of the
Home made products made at the venue.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - An amazing place with beautiful gr
- emmanuel (10/5): - Amazing, fantastic hosts, great accomodation and grounds. 11/10
- Erin (10/5): Beautiful Stay - We only stayed one night at the Chateau, so we didn't have as much time as we would have liked to explore the grounds. The little that we were able to see was beautiful and such a needed break from the chaos of Paris. The hosts were helpful and very kind. The breakfast in the morning was delightful. We loved the homemade apple juice! We also enjoyed the breads and pastries, but we very excited to have some freshly made eggs. Overall it was a pleasant stay. I would suggest making sure you arrive in daylight hours because it was a little hard to find at night in the rain.
- Verified traveler (10/5): What an experience! - If you'd like a taste of how the nobles enjoyed the French countryside in fine style, this is it! The hosts are incredibly attentive, informative and gracious, the Chateau is sparkling clean and the grounds are pridefully maintained. Loved the warm greeting, our walk on the grounds complete with visits to the horses, black sheep and swans. The room was spacious, the backyard/sunset view was spectacular, the linens are high quality, our bathroom renovated with modern upscale fixtures was squeakly clean and well appointed. It was our best and longest sleep so far during our travels! So quiet and comfortable. Recommendations were provided for excellent local dining. Exceptional breakfast in the dining room complete with period silverware, china and most foods harvested from the estate. We will return!!
- k (10/5): - This was our second visit to this remarkable chateau, and well worth the trip from Australia. If you are in France, you must do whatever you can to visit this magical destination.
The wonderful, convivial hosts, coupled with the dream destination of a 17th century restored chateau with gorgeous local views make this a stay to remember.
The breakfasts are nothing short of spectacular, in a beautiful dining room filled with antiques and art. Strolls around the magnificent gardens and wider grounds are an absolute delight.
The hosts are very knowledgable about tourism in the local area, and have wonderful activity and restaurant suggestions that will only enhance your time at the chateau.
This experience is nothing short of magnificent, and we are grateful to the hosts for sharing their beautiful home with guests. The only complaint, was that our stay was not long enough. Can't wait to visit again. Thank you!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): I felt like a Princess - Bernard and Inaki have a beautify Chateau and create a lovely and welcoming experience. Their attention to detail in the design and hospitality was wonderful.
The Chateau is in a great location to experience Mont. Saint Michel without being in the midst of the crowd. It is also located about an hour from the landing beaches making Chateau Chantore and idea base for a Normandy vacation.
We hope to see you again.
- Wendy (10/5): Awesome ! - This place is absolutely breathtaking. The chateau is impeccable decorated and clean. Bernard is an outstanding host. He is warm and welcoming. He is genuinely happy to have you stay at his chateau. I was sad to leave and I can't wait to go back.
- Chris and Linda (10/5): Amazing Experience - Incredible and by far exceeds a 5 star rating - from the property to the grounds and including the hosts and their rooms! By far, the nicest stay we have had. Thank you Bernard !
- Janelle (10/5): Beautiful Chateau in Normandy - We loved our stay in Château de Chantore. Bernard was an excellent host who gave us wonderful recommendations and helped us make restaurant reservations and generally make the most of our stay. The Chateau itself was recently lovingly renovated and restored by Bernard and his partner to an 18th century French style, and the house is filled with art and furniture that they'd been collecting for 18 years! We stayed in a suite with a view of Mont St. Michel and the alcove bed was quite charming. We didn't get a chance to wander around the grounds, but they looked beautiful from the window and the surrounding country-side was stunning. Breakfast was a continental breakfast, but was anything but simple! Every morning we had a choice of coffee or a selection of fine teas, orange juice, honey from their own apiary, excellent croissants and other breads/cakes, fruit, yogurt--and eggs and ham on request. I loved the beautiful dining room and china we ate on as well!
The Chateau is a fairly easy drive to interesting tourist sights--we stopped by Giverny on the way from Paris, and took day trips to Mont St. Michel, Saint Malo, and Cancale.
I would definitely recommend it and hope to return!
- Jonathan (10/5): A Royal Treat Near Mont Saint-Michel - My partner and I wanted to visit Mont Saint-Michel and spend a nice evening in the French countryside at the same time. Château de Chantore answered was the perfect answer. The chateau is situated on absolutely stunning grounds that transport you back to the life of a noble in the 18th Century. The proprietors are warm and welcoming, the accommodations opulent, and the breakfast splendid. I can't recommend staying at Château de Chantore enough!
- Tim (10/5): Beautiful property Very quiet. - This is a restored chateau, very beautiful. The manager was outstanding and very helpful. The breakfast was amazing and made us feel like royalty. The only kick I had with this place was slow internet, but it wasn't the property's fault. Cell service and Telecom infrastructure in the area is not the greatest so can't really blame the B&B.
This is way out in the boonies and without GPS could be a tad hard to find. We loved the quiet out of the way location, that said, it was easy to get to Mont Saint Michelle.
- William Patrick (10/5): Beautiful chateau in beautiful setting! - Could not have been more pleased. This is a beautiful, fully restored, chateau in an idyllic setting. The best part of all was the host Bernard. He could not have been more welcoming and gracious. And on top of it all...an amazing breakfast to begin your day! Would love to come back over and over again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Gracious hosts, lovely grounds, beautiful accommodations. I felt like a princess.
- Christopher (10/5): Wonderful chateaux near Mont St. Michel - Beautiful chateaux in the heart of the French countryside with a view of Mont St. Michel. The owners are extremely welcoming and have done a fabulous job restoring the 18th century manor. We look forward to a return visit with friends or family.
- Keisuke (10/5): Simply Great - The atmosphere, and the service of the hotel is simply excellent.
Beautiful and historical Chateau, and the service that makes you feel very comfortable.
For dinner you would need to go out, but there are nice restaurants near by, 10min by car.
Breakfast is served in a beautiful room.
Location is also very nice, just 30 min. away from Mt St Michel.
- Chuck & Patty (10/5): Exceptional owners and hospitality. - If you want to experience what royalty is treated like, this is your place. This newly renovated chateau has 20th century features while maintaining 17th and 18th century original feel and decor. Truly a work of art. The grounds encompassing over 40 acres of magnificent views and walking paths with horses, sheep, peacocks, and swans. Also a view of the Mont St Micheal. The owners offer the hospitality of close friends. Fabulous breakfast, and on and on.
- IZE (10/5): Enjoyed every minute of our stay - Initially we booked one night to stay at Chateau du Chantore to go to Mont Saint Michel. But we loved it so much that we extenden our stay for another night. The location of the Chateau is very beautiful country site. The owners are super nice people and made us feel like we were guests at one of our friends house. A walk around the property was so relaxing and fun. You will feel very special if you stay in this Chateau. We will definitely would love to go back and spend more time just at the Chateau. I will defnitely recoment it.
- Liz (10/5): Superb from arrival to departure - Bernard and Inaki have created a very special place to stay. The chateau has been sympathetically restored and is furnished with antique pieces throughout. It also has all the modern comforts, well heated, plenty of electric sockets, excellent WiFi and very good bathrooms. You feel that the enjoyment of your stay is very important to the hosts. Breakfast is served in a beautiful dining room at a large table. The presentation is immaculate and the choice and quality of food and beverages offered excellent. A large park with 2 lakes make for a very peaceful and quiet location. A perfect place to relax. We booked a one night to visit Mont St Michel but having found out what is offer definitely want to revisit and stay longer.
- thibault (10/5): Nice place, great hosts - If you always wanted to stay at a castle, this is definitely a good place to start. Spacious bedroom, welcoming hosts, very good breakfast
20min drive from le mont saint Michel
