Guest Reviews
- Crazy (2/5): - Absolutely avoid this place at all costs.
- David (2/5): - The owner did not know I was coming and at first I was told there were no rooms. After a while he found one the he had "reserved for someone else"
He did his best to help but the bedding was ripped and towels were stained.
He apparently has had his differences with Expedia and had no record of me coming.
- Thomas (2/5): - The room had an awful smell, the toilet and bathtub were not clean, and the comforters on the beds were worn out with holes, stains, etc. We got in late after a long day of driving and did not bother switching rooms and did not stay the night there. We got a room somewhere else.
I will say that the host was very kind and helpful. From the outside, the place looked like a fun and funky place to stay. Too bad the room we got was terrible.
- Arlynn (10/5): - It was a good stay for us. Staff, George was very nice.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not my idea of a hotel room/suite. - I can not recommend this hotel. The room had spider webs in almost every corner. Bath / Shower had black human hairs on the walls, like no one had even wiped down the shower after the last person stayed. Comforter / bed spread was old and stinky. Over all the room was not very clean .
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good value - Property is very dated, but a good value with a friendly owner. Air conditioning and kitchen worked.
- Cotter (8/5): - A good property for the price and convenient for my business trip.
- Ron (6/5): - Dirtyvtowels, dirty sheets, dirty coffee pot, no glasses
- Robert (8/5): Comfortable in Wells. - This is an older and rustic property that has not been updated in a long time. However, it was very spacious and clean. There is a quite good restaurant attached with good food and excellent service.
- Michael (8/5): - The owner/desk staff very friendly and accomodating. room very comfortable, not new, but in good shape. Had kitchenette, was functional, bathroom needed sweeping, not dirty, just not used recently. Very good experiance, would stay again. Stayed for one night with family.
- SHAUNA (8/5): Great for the price - Overall, great for the price. Bed and pillows were soft. Ac didn’t really work well. Kitchen had no utensils or dishes. Owner was super nice and helpful. Would stay again.
- William (8/5): - I pre-registered so when I came in late my room key was in a lock box outside my room door. I thought this was an excellent idea as it afforded security with no interaction with the staff. Room was very quiet, bed was so-so but what do you expect from a budget motel.
- ASHOK (6/5): - The toilet tissue dispenser bar was missing and roll was on toilet tank. The shower was painful. The water temperature varied from freezing to scalding possibly due to water usage of the adjoining room or one below. Open stairs leading to to second floor had water accumulation due to to water from roof which froze inthe morning and became a slippery if one wasn’t aware of it.
- George (4/5): Disappointed - There was a kitchen, but had no pots, pans, dishes, utensils etc. Bed was terrible, and was charged extra for not paying with cash.
- Mary (10/5): Happy - Great. I left for the second night. I had to cancel because I needed to get to my second destination sooner. George is great.
- BERNARD (6/5): A nice surprise after a disquieting start. - We were quite skeptical when we drove up. It looks pretty rundown from the outside, and the office was locked, with a number to call on the door. Seems it's a family run place, maybe a victim of the pandemic. The lady with child in tow was very pleasant, however, and our room was spacious and clean (we could still smell the bleach) with a full-sized refrigerator stove and sink - but absolutely no cookware or utensils.
The restaurant on the property, Betaso's, serves decent food (ours was Mexican), and we enjoyed the relative quiet of the area.
- Alberto (8/5): Pretty good - Was nice! We did have a truck and trailer and good parking. Keep in mind, there is a Local train That goes by every night at 2:30 or 3am and then again Around 4am, it goes through several times like on my cousin vinny movie. The blinds don’t keep the room very dark which was hard on my special needs son. We visited the on site restaurant and the lady working Front counter was like a 15 year old girl on her period, complete with an attitude and talking back skills. Other than that, the stay was good. Beds were comfy I’d go back. Love the full size kitchens
- Philip (6/5): - Not much to choose from in Wells but Chinatown had OK reviews, so took a chance. Probably got what we paid for. Generally clean but old and somewhat run down. For a town out in the middle of nowhere, it was a choice between a low-priced place like this or a much higher-priced name brand hotel, all for just a very brief stay in Wells.
- Alberto (10/5): Wonderful people - They were really kind and allowed us to stay until around noon. We explained our situation that our car broke down and we were waiting on a ride and they were totally understanding which was so nice. Loved the full size kitchens and comfy pillows we would stay again
- Alberto (10/5): Wonderful all the way around! - They were very nice. We broke down and didn’t have a vehicle as a family member drive us. We explained that we would need to stay until noon bc we were waiting on a ride to pick us up and they were totally cool with it. Love the full size kitchens and comfy beds. Would def. be back
- Katherin (10/5): Reasonable rate - The manager of the motel was super friendly and so helpful. The exterior of the motel wasn’t like the modern ones, but the interior cleanliness made up for it. There is an on-site restaurant that serves Mexican and American food. I would definitely reserve again because the rate was very reasonable and the bed was comfortable.
- Mark (8/5): Very pleased - Staff was wonderful. Would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nicest owner, so kind and helpful. It’s a very basic property, not new or fancy, but adequate and safe and convenient in every way. I would stay there again happily. There is a full kitchen, so very handy if you’re staying more than a couple of days, with a good local market literally just down the street.
- Debra (10/5): - Really reasonable rates for traveling with dogs, nice pet area, friendly and helpful staff
- Hui Lin (6/5): - Typical old motel along the interstates. Not suite as advertised and no utensils at all in the kitchen. But everything works.
- Regina (10/5): - The staff was awesome, helpful ,friendly, very caring and the room was comfy... loved the food at the restaurant.. we would stay again ❤❤❤❤
- Jon (2/5): you deserve better than this. - I want to say something nice, but I cannot.
Well, the desk person was nice.
The room had mold, the beds were hard as a rock.
This is an older property, but that is no excuse for being unclean.
My recommendation is just say no.
- Charles (2/5): Overbooked - room cancelled at last second - Apparently management consistently overbooks their hotel. We received a phone call at 3 pm on the day of arrival telling us that our reservation had been moved to another hotel that didn't have the same facilities.
- Ryan N (2/5): No vacancy - I booked this hotel, but when we arrived the hotel was closed. I called the hotel and they said they had no vacancies, and I cannot check in. We had to find another hotel at the last minute somewhat late at night.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - rooms appeared to have been remodeled. New carpet, paint, doors. Food in restaurant was excellent.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - When we arrived at this facility, they had no record of our reservation, although we had made it many weeks in advance. Needless to say, we found an alternate facility.
Live and learn....
- Sandy (8/5): Best beds! - Best pillow top beds ever!
- mary (6/5): It’s ok - Was given a 2 bedroom suite it was ok not something I would choose for more than a night or two. Wouldn’t rely on restaurant. Check hours.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Decent place to stay if in need of rest. Has a refrigerator and stove and a grocery next door. The restaurant at the location was very good. Don’t order the salad and the steak was over cooked. The sides were excellent mash potatoes and green beans.
- Joe (4/5): - We were told we didn’t have a reservation when we arrived at the hotel, even though we had a hard copy printout of the Expedia confirmation in hand.
They then gave us a different room (single room with 2 queens vs 2 bedroom suite we have reserved) at a much lower price.
The next morning they were very apologetic. The story also changed from no reservation to the suite had been damaged by a prior guest and wasn’t safe to occupy.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Huge room. One kitchen , two bedroom and one bathroom. Nice and friendly staff. You will deal with the owner. Really surprised me, good hotel!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - There’s not much to choose from in Wells, but this was great! It was like a one bedroom apartment with living room, full kitchen, bathroom down the hall & bedroom! The guy was very friendly & helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Is always a good room. I was a little late and I got a call saying I would lose my room if I didn't show up. Other than that it is always a good experience.
- Jackie (8/5): - It was perfect for us. Clean. Quiet.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nicely remodeled rooms. Was very clean. Only fault would be the pillows were a little flat.
- Gsweet (10/5): - This was a very pleasant hotel. Our room was very clean and in nice condition. There was a full size fridge and even a range. It felt like a studio apartment! We will definitely stay here on any future trips. Very nice staff!
- Rok (2/5): Smelly & Musty - Was assigned Room 23. Upon opening the door, my senses of smell & sight were assaulted. The room smelled of mustiness & dirty sofa, bed, and other cloth items. I stood for 2-minutes because I did not see a clean place, and I did not want to lay on that bed.
Canceled my reservation, and drove 5-hours to the next big city, and rented a hotel there.
Do not recommend this hotel for anyone.
- Verified traveler (2/5): LET DOWN COMPLETELY & WILL INFORM Wells, NV, BBB ! - Called FIVE HOURS AHEAD to notify owner of our previously unexpected need to check in after hours (my husband had to work 5 hours longer than expected but only found out at the last minute, on the day of our departure). Spoke to a courteous gentleman with an accent by phone about 5 p.m. to inform him we would not arrive till about 1 a.m., rather than our originally planned 9 p.m. arrival, to find out if that would be permissible. Was politely instructed to “just call this number, which he gave me, when you arrive”. Repeated number back to him to double-check accuracy, confirmed by him. Called 10 minutes before arrival @ 12:23 a.m., and 4-5 more times, plus texted him twice, over ~45 minutes, while waiting @motel, but never got an answer, so could only leave messages, ~5-6 total. NOT HAPPY that we had to drive on ~2hours+, to Ely, to get the next available room. We would have understood if we had been told “sorry, no late check in available after 10. p.m.”, but did just as requested, even conscientiously staying on location @motel nearly an hour &making repeated efforts to speak with him/leave messages since we had committed to follow his instructions on late check-in. Cost us an hour, aggravation & a higher rate@ Ely motel 6 than what we could have gotten it for ahead of time thru hotels.com had we done so in advance (website doesn’t let you make reservation on 2 hours’ notice same day). P.O.’ed @ Wells Chinatown ? O YEAH...VERY UNPROFESSIONAL & UNBUSINESSLIKE of them!
- Janis (8/5): Good, budget motel - Office door is locked so one must call phone number posted on door. Owner came right away The room was large with two comfortable beds. Large refer was appreciated. No hair drier or shampoo, but due to low price of room, I was OK with that. Good, budget motel. I would return.
- Phil (8/5): Appearance deceiving - Very clean and spacious room. Full size kitchen space if needed. Parking lot not paved so drive slow!
- Kristine (8/5): - Pretty good lace to stay. We were on the bottom floor, didn't hear neighbors above or to the sides, lots of space. Older/dated, beds are ok. I'd stay again.
- tailrotor (6/5): - Good place for short stopover. Room was kitchen equipped however no dishes
- Verified traveler (8/5): - For the age and location I was pretty impressed. You can tell that they make a real effort to keep the place up. We liked having a kitchen I'm our room and making brakfast, grocery store next door. We stayed on a Saturday and I was impressed how quiet it was.
- Brian (6/5): If you need a place in Wells, this it. - Good value, large room with kitchenette. Clean basic motel. Plenty of off street parking on gravel lot. Air conditioning worked well but no internet service on WiFi. Trains come through town and annouce their presence with loud whistles.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Large room with full kitchen. - the cooler was very loud when it came on. There were a couple of bugs in the room. The owner said that they were harmless. The owner (I assume) was very nice.
- Verified traveler (6/5): great price value - Wonderful host owners. Convenient location. Modest amenities - but sufficient for our needs to have accommodations for an overnight during a two day travel journey.
- Verified traveler (10/5): When you are looking for a homey feeling - When you are looking for the convenience of home but are staying at a hotel, this is a place to stay. There is full kitchen with all necessary appliances and a roomy separate living room. Then to really push that feeling home you have a private bedroom away from the front of the motel and all the noise. In the middle of a long drive this is a great place to stay.
- Hildegund (2/5): bad experience - Never got to stay, the owner went apperently to China on vacation and we waited in front of a closed Lobby of his hotel. After 2 hours we found a very nice person, the owner of the restaurant within the hotel. He promised us to tell
the person in charge not to charge us for the reservation. Just came back from our trip and don't know if we will be charged or not. I would go to the restaurant but would not make reservations
in this hotel again. The last thing you want a none reservation after a long trip in a car. Drove all the way to Idaho falls to stay that night. Not a good experience at all.
- Char (10/5): It was a nice hotel - Very friendly people and very comfortable room. I love that there was a full kitchen so we were able to eat in.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Clean motel - The motel was clean and came with a full size fridge and kitchen, great little place to stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Although we had a reservation, the office was closed. It took several phone calls to locate help but they were very apologetic and helpful in the end.
- Morris (6/5): Nice close to high way - The room is big with kitchen and refrigerator the bed is king size and comfortable.
- Lori (2/5): Previous Reviews Very Misleading - When we arrived they were closed. I called the number on the door and the owner said they were out of town but that their caretaker would be there soon. The caretake and his wife were nice. We were concerned that we would be the only guests and didn't feel safe. I asked if the water was safe to drink and was told no, I should probably go buy some but the store closed at 7. The room was very old, minimal and isolated. I didn't feel comfortable staying there with my son. There was no one there so we left the key in the room and went and found a room at the Super 8. I was very disappointed. There were so many good reviews for this establishment but now I question their authenticity.
- Shawn (2/5): DISAPPOINTED!! - Worst room I have ever stayed in! Anywhere!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was perfect for a break half way through a 20hr drive
- Steve (10/5): - Very friendly , nice kitchen
- kirsten (10/5): Perfect - Very clean and spacious. Welcoming staff and fresh tasty food. I would stay again if passing through.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect for a layover on a long trip - There is nothing negative I can say about this place. It was convenient and affordable and much more than I expected. It is a family-run business and they are very dedicated I can tell to keep the customers comfortable and happy. The food in the restaurant was extremely fresh and tasty. I stopped there on a road trip just to sleep and ended up staying two days because of a car tire issue and it was no problem to stay an extra night. The room is so large that you feel like you're in a small apartment. The kitchen is updated and very inviting. I read reviews about the place being outdated but honestly the only thing that looked out of date is the bedspread. That's really not a problem because the bed was really comfortable and everything else was super clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay there again in the same situation.
- norma (10/5): hidden gem! - Wells isn't a big town. Outside 1st impression was OK, but owners were very friendly and it was CLEAN, comfy, great value.
- Judy (10/5): Wells China Town Motel--yes! - This motel is quite unusual, as motels go. It is run by a perfectly wonderful Chinese couple who seem to do all the work themselves. The room was large with a complete kitchen. The linens were excellent, especially the towels. My only suggestion is that the owners invest in pillow top mattress covers for the beds, as the mattresses are not top of the line.
Perhaps the best part of staying at this motel is the excellent Chinese dinner the owner will cook for you in the adjoining restaurant. I had pot stickers for the first time in years and chicken with broccoli--fit for a king!
- Chris (8/5): Good for a short visit to Wells or Angel Lake. - Super husband wife owners! Rooms are good, with great suites. Beds a little firm, but each person has their own likes.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - An aging facility but clean. The owner, George, was very accommodating and friendly. We'd stay again. Our room had new appliances in the kitchen area but no utensils. The restaurant was closed the day we were there but has a good reputation.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great find for the price ! - Real nice and accommodating people . I would say the air conditioner and the shower need a bit more attention though.
- K (4/5): Clean but worn. - Well worn but clean for stopping for a night. Staff very friendly and accommodating.
- stephen (8/5): Busy and pleasant motel - The owner is more than accommodating and helpful. Made me feel very comfortable. This place is filled every night.
- Ryan (8/5): Best Place to Stay in Wells (and only getting bett - Why stay in Wells? There isn't much around in any direction and it is a good in-between if you're traveling from say Boise to Las Vegas, to break up the driving a bit (4 and 7 hours instead of just straight 11). Wells is not a very big town and does not offer much that doesn't look seedy or scary. There are husks of old hotels and motels all around. The main survivors are your standard cheap-fare Super 8 and Motel 6, and then there is this little gem, Wells Chinatown Motel.
It can be a little difficult to find because it is not particularly well-marked and you have to travel through the majority of Wells -- a few minutes off of 93 -- to get to it, but your phone GPS will know where it is.
The owner and staff are extremely friendly and helpful and are very open to feedback as they are in the process of improvements and renovations and really seem to want to please people.
The room is very spacious and you get a full kitchen and a full refrigerator to work with (this was very handy as I had need of refreezing ice packets in my cooler that I was traveling with).
The bed-comfort/mattresses leave something to be desired, but the pillows were nice. The bathroom was small, but everything worked as intended. The internet Wi-Fi was functional, but was pretty slow compared to just using my cellular. Everything in the room was easily accessible and easy to use.
There is a nice view of the mountains and overall, it was a surprisingly comfortable stay.
- L (4/5): Stopover - A room to rest for a day so nothing much to say. Motel looks old and bed not comfy and pillow too flat.
- Deb (6/5): Clean and Quiet - Booked online but when we arrived there was a note on door with a list of several phone #'s to call. Office and restaurant were closed, called #'s and message said #'s had been changed, didn't try others. Nobody around. Decided to leave when friendly lady arrived in mini van packed with kids and helped us. Working out of an empty room for a office and in her slippers! Room was big, with kitchen & very clean, out dated chairs and beds, but new bathroom. Quiet & Good price.
- Maria (10/5): The best place to stay in Wells - You wouldn't expect to find friendly, personable customer service, super clean rooms, a busy RV park, and awesome Chinese food in one place in Wells, Nevada, but here it is. After reading one bad review about how the person paid for a room online then was informed his room was given away, I was wary. I called to make sure our room would still be available and the owner answered. Not only was he extremely warm and nice, he assured me that our room was ready and waiting for us. Our room had two queen beds, new carpet, a little kitchenette with brand new appliances (stove, oven, micro, fridge), a coffee maker and packets of Chinese tea, which I thought was a nice touch. However, if you are staying for any length of time you may have to ask for cooking pans and plates. I don't remember seeing anything to cook with. They provide two packets of soap and two conditioning shampoos from the Desert Essence brand. There were plenty of towels and everything from the new carpet to the fridge was clean, clean, clean. Room was quiet, too. Cable not so great. The TV was fuzzy. BUT they have 3 wireless options, all free, one without a password and two requiring a password. There was a WIRED connection in the room, too! If we are ever back in Wells we will definitely stay again. Also, delicious food in the restaurant!
- anita d (8/5): Nice hunt - Good place to relax after a long cold day of hunting
