Guest Reviews

- Bronwyn (8/5): Being managed by a friend because owner was il, so check in was quite late, but they did a good job. -
- Karl (7/5): Recommend for central location - Central location, exactly what you expect Heating was always on. But other than that all good.
- Tony & Dianne (3/5): Never again at this location. - The staff were invisible, literally. The location was good for our purpose. The food facilities non existent. The property is being operated on a shoe string. The owners are absent; the staff, invisible, are doing their best to keep the hotel going. Access was very difficult, the ensuite was the size of a cupboard and very inadequate,; the advertised restaurant was closed. All in all the price charged per night was exorbitant; we stayed overnight in an airport hotel for little more with first class facilities incl. breakfast! This is a seriously misleading ad and facilities. Bookings needs to do a better job vetting properties.
- Abbie-leigh (10/5): Amazing stay - Room was perfect and staff were amazing Nothing
- Cheyenne (5/5): -
- Thierry (8/5): A very decent stay. Perfect for walking the Welsh Coast path. - Peter the manager welcomed me warmly and waited for me although my train was late by 1H10'. The room was very quiet and I slept well. Hotel look is basic but for the price I paid this was more than acceptable. No breakfast was provided which I understand in low season. I knew this was the case, so I was prepared.
- Martin (4/5): - Unfortunately I had an unpleasant stay at the Middlegate Hotel - I stayed for 2 nights in Sept. 2025.
There was very loud music playing late into the night (until 11pm) on a weekday which made it impossible for me to sleep. A band playing very loud music right under my room.
This is not acceptable and made my stay at the hotel a miserable and a very negative experience.
And during the day there were strange people coming by my window and looking into and inspecting my room thereby violating my privacy. Again - this is unacceptable.
Thirdly, the shower was out of order and of course no one was present at the reception.
A functioning shower is essential as well as privacy and quiet night time.

- Lal (1/5): - I don’t like anything about this property. I didn’t like the room service, as my room was never cleaned, I didn’t get teabags. The room itself was smelly and dirty. The water in the shower was either too cold or too hot. There were also cockroaches in the property. Bad hotel and bad service.
- Annabel (8/5): A lovely few days in Pembroke - thanks Peter ☺️ - Peter was great and so helpful and friendly. We arrived after check in time and he was very accommodating. Room was basic but clean and comfy :) Location was fantastic and view from our room was lovely! Nothing - we had a great stay!
- Hilary (7/5): The stay was good value for money and everything we needed for a weekend away. - Beds very comfortable. Water beautifully hot. Breakfast not available. Coffee and tea provided but only when we asked for it.
- Alex (7/5): -
- Genovaite (8/5): - Was everything okay just in shower very low pressure
- Aida Ruci (9/5): - Der Besitzer, Peter war der beste Gastgeber. Vielen Dank. Das Zimmer war klein, hatte aber alles was man bräuchte. Ein Föhn steht auf Ansprache zur Verfügung. Sicherer Parkplatz.
- Amelia (10/5): -
- Paul (8/5): Very decent stay - I really liked the Middlegate, it's a quirky place but the bed was comfortable and clean, bathroom facilities very decent, wifi good, good host in Peter and an excellent location in Pembroke main street. Good secure parking around the back of the hotel It won't suit every modern day traveller but in my opinion nothing not to like.
- Martyna (8/5): Lovely stay! - Peter is a lovely host, very personable and accommodating. Despite me booking a single room, he let me stay in a double simply because it was available!
The location is perfect, a stone's throw away from all the cafes, pubs and restaurants in town as well as the castle, and close to the train station too.
Everything was clean and tidy, nothing was broken or malfunctioning. The shower took a moment to figure out but once i remembered to tug on the red toggle it worked just fine.
If you're bringing your bike let Peter know in advance, as otherwise there might be an issue with storing it. The bathroom is a bit small, I was fine using it but I could imagine a larger person might find it uncomfortable. There were a few cracks in the wall and tiles, creases in the wallpaper, minor things like that.
There wasn't any bothersome noise from the street or from other rooms, but on the nights when there was live music downstairs (Monday and Wednesday) it was very audible in my room. Not a problem for most people, and i enjoyed sitting in on the performances for a bit, but something to keep in mind if you're an early sleeper.
- Ruiting (8/5): Very good - I like the place because of its owner Peter who is very helpful and kind, also the place affords everything you need. The room is small but the bed is cozy and you can watch tv. It is in the main street and close to the bus stop and the castle. I came in Wednesday and there is a live music session played by the local band, old fashioned style and it will bring you back in 60-70s. BTW, thw cider tastes perfect!
- MARK (8/5): satisfied - my stay was fine, no problems at all.
- Nik (9/5): Superb - Great location along the Main street, central to the attractions round Pembroke. Even if you're up to the 5km trek over to Pembroke Dock.
- Brian (1/5): Never again and I’ll never book again with Booking.com given this horrible experience - Nothing to like
Dreadful
You should take it off your list
- Mihai (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (8/5): - Good value
- Yiran (9/5): Friendly staff -
- Jeremy (5/5): OK for spending the night. - Location in centre of Pembroke was excellent. The people were pleasant and welcoming. Check-in facility limited to one 1-hour slot (18.30-19.30). Room contained kettle, but no tea, coffee, milk or cup. Room not cleaned during stay (4 nights). Not problems for my purposes, but unusual.
- Alice (7/5): Good - Lovely welcoming staff, secure parking, comfortable bed.
- Johnson (8/5): Great for short stay/ backpacking - Excellent location. Castle 200 yds along road. Bus service convenient. Shops close. Browns cafe for breakfast a few doors away. Stairs without lift for heavy luggage. Room small but cosy. Shower adequate only.
- David (8/5): Compact, clean, good value, but not well suited for disabled! - Peter the owner very helpful and welcoming. Room compact but adequate for a short stay. Not handicapped accessible. Stairs difficult. Suggest installing a handrail in the shower. Otherwise pretty comfortable.
- Peter (1/5): Please remove the Property form your listing - - Please remove this property form your listing Room was very small - Passage smelled Badley - Rained Sunday Roof was leaking is the passage
was told that Breakfast will be served - Not open
- Nicholas (6/5): Pleasant -
- John (5/5): Perfect for me travelling on my own, needed a place to sleep and have a shower. Owner friendly enough ensured I had all - Room clean bed comfy, suited my needs A little dated, could use some TLC
- Jemmima (5/5): Passable -
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Neil (8/5): Very good -
- Katherine (5/5): Passable -
- Morris (8/5): Very good -
- Caroline (8/5): Very good - The host was very friendly and helpful
- Jay (9/5): Made to feel very welcome, had a fabulous time. - Superb location, central for everything, and definitely worth using the bar on a Wednesday 8-11pm when local musicians get together, so many the night I was there they were only allowed 3 songs each. The room was fine for what I needed, enough room, good bathroom, all very clean and comfortable. The owner, Pete, was friendly and helpful. My room was at the back, away from the busy main road, so it was very quiet for a good night's sleep. It was OK for me as I always travel with emergency coffee supplies - there is a kettle in the room but no tea/coffee/milk. Also check-in is limited to 18:30-19:30. Pete will make other arrangements if he can but he has no staff so it depends on his other commitments.
- Phil (9/5): Superb -
- Greg (1/5): Bad - Nothing It was a rip off, no resemblance to the website- it was a total mess. It should never have been advertised in it's current condition. It stank of mold/damp, it was extremely dirty, carpet was also disgusting. No tea or coffee no food service, access to the rooms was dangerous and extension leads used. We had booked for two nights but left the next morning discussed and no redund was allowed. We have traveled extensively and never been so appalled by the standard of the accommodation offered. Booking.com need to take this hotel off their books for the sake of their reputation.
- Joe (8/5): Very good -
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Birt (8/5): Very good - Fair price good location near pubs and resturants room was clean amd tidy with en suite
- John (1/5): i didn't end up staying , due to the fact the hotel was un staffed - nothing everything
- Jordan (8/5): Very good -
- Susan (7/5): Good -
- Helen (8/5): Very good -
- Ziyi (10/5): Pretty good - Great breakfast (full English), cost £10 per person and filled us up so much we didn't have to have lunch!
Also, lovely host, he was very funny and helpful. Unfortunately, there was no AC, and the room was often like a sauna, even with the windows open at night
- Talbot (1/5): Awful. Would never return - Only location The downstairs areas were old and very smelly. We didnt fancy eating or drinking here. There was no hot water most of the time. Although there was a kettle and cups, no tea, coffee or milk. Room wasnt cleaned in three nights we stayed or towels changed. I dont know how anyone can give anything but lowest ratings for this hotel. We thought it was derelict when we arrived. We suggest Bookings.com make an inspection

- Forman (7/5): Nice room, comfy beds, good parking, town centre location. - Room clean, tidy and comfortable. Bar open to guests in evening. Gated carpark. No meals provided unless requested in advance. Outside was a bit tatty.
- Mairi (1/5): Hotel from HELL ! - Absolutely nothing. Place is a dump . Everything , the place should be condemned.
- Ko (9/5): Superb -
- Gail (8/5): Very good - The Bed was very comfortable Lovely spacious room. The Host Pete was very friendly and welcoming. Very small telly, no coffees milk or sugar on day of arrival . No Hosts on the mornin of leaving.

- David (7/5): Good - Very comfortable room
Good location on High Street
Convenient parking
- Claire (6/5): Pleasant - The bed was clean and comfy A dated hotel, no tea or coffee supplied in room luckily we brought our own, kettle was full of limescale, the powerpoint wasn,t near the kettle
- Joseph (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (8/5): Satisfied - The Middlegate is a basic accommodation which is ideal for males walking the coastal path , don’t expect 5* luxury but the bed linen and towels were clean also the toilet and shower were of generous size and clean with a very good electric shower unit.
The accommodation was fine for my needs on a walking holiday, free parking, right in the middle of town with a bus stop a few other pubs and cafes , chip shops all on the same street.
Peter was a friendly and helpful host.
- Thomas (9/5): Superb -
- Charles (9/5): definitely stay there again - room was big enough for one person, free parking, close to town, excellent value for money, the staff was great, Peter even arranged a medical appointment fir me.
- Moira (8/5): Very good -
- Alexander (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (7/5): bedroom spotless but dated. food wasn’t good value for money. paid £9 for a micro meal in last night but the night befor - very friendly checking in times, poor quality of food but Pete was funny
- Joanna (10/5): Highly recommended. - Excellent location, free parking, delicious food, amazing owners, live bands every Wednesday.
- Caterina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rachel (7/5): Good - close to both the castle and the station - exactly what i needed

- Madgwick (10/5): Exceptional - Peter the host was extremely helpful and hard working.

- Al (3/5): avoid -
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Alex (10/5): Exceptional -
- Revill (6/5): Pleasant -
- Roger (5/5): very outdated apart from our room the rest of the hotel very dingy and needs a lot of work doing to it - not to much out dated
- Kevin (8/5): Comfortable and good nights sleep. - I enjoyed our four night stay, in particular the bed was comfortable, everything worked, quiet so a good sleep, breakfast good too. The owner was friendly. There was a group of musicians just playing folk and other acoustic to each other on one night which was excellent. Locationis good too, in the middle of Pembroke, car parking at the rear (via the Parade). Initial impression was not great as it felt like stepping back in time and some decor was tired inside and out The service was sometimes hesitant but don't let this deter you, they have got the basics right and it was reasonably priced. It certainly grew on me. Just do not expect 5*.
- Lesley (7/5): Good -
- Lee (4/5): Disappointing -
- Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointed - Hotel was poorly maintained with reports of no staff. Hotel was not as highly rated on your site and overpriced. Would not stay there again or recommend to others.
- James (8/5): Good Value, great food - good location for us within a short trip to Tenby where we were working. very secure parking, landlord very accommodating with our late finished and always prepared to serve food. The high street gets a bit rowdy on a Saturday night….
- Hughes (10/5): Perfect weekend break - Perfect location for the event we were attending. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel which were excellent. Peter and his wife were very attentive to our needs. The hotel is very old and quirky which added to the ambiance. Would definitely stay again. Nothing
- Elizabeth (8/5): Clean, comfortable, obliging staff at reasonable price - Very obliging staff. Great value comfy room.Nice pub attached with good entertainment. Central kn Pembroke. Would recommend. Good breakfast! Nothing.
- Griffiths (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gerald (4/5): Pleasant proprietors, very dated interiors, zero Kerb appeal. - The cooked breakfast was actually very tasty. Mushrooms cooked in butter(lovely) eggs cooked perfectly.
electric gated car park was a good touch.
the room was a decent size The place is so outdated and begging for a facelift that in my opinion it would benefit from closing for re-furbishing. The current owners have been there for 30 years but in all honesty it looks like little has been updated for a long time?
The frontage looks dread full Our hearts sank when we saw it. flaking and fading paint, uncleaned windows.
The original pub area is huge and in its hey day I can imagine it was the party place to be in Pembroke, but now most of it is un-used apart from for storage which emphasises its decline. The once decent looking garden is also overgrown and un-used.
On the first morning, the cafe floor was un-swept and dirty. The Cafe window sill was draped in lots of cobwebs from the window, these were definitely not the result of one nights spider weaving!! The brown sauce sachets were out of date in April of this year!
The stairway smells old and slightly musty?
The room was very dated. The door was warped and although it sat inside the door frame at the top, the warp meant that there was a gap at the bottom with movement of the bottom of the door of around 50mm if you pushed your foot against it. showering was a challenge! my wife and I had fun working out the best way to take a shower. One of us held the shower attachment and had to keep adjusting the hot and cold taps in order to reach a happy medium between cold and hot. the only way to get the perfect temperature was to turn on the hot water, then turn it off when hot then turn on the cold water this resulted in 10 seconds of bearable shower temperature before turning cold again. The water in the bath took a long time to drain.
The carpet is deteriorating where there is a join
- Lynne (4/5): Disappointing - Clean comfortable bed. Adequate breakfast. Secure parking. Disinterested owner. Unorganised and moaning all the time.
- Steve (8/5): Great if you want cheap and excellent customer service, avoid if you want the Hilton standards - The host (peter) was fantastic, very friendly, exceptional customer service. The food was fantastic as well as the price of the drinks. Car parking was not an issue as there is a secure gated area which could fit 15 cars. The whole building was very tired and needed up dating. If you want some where to use as a base that is cheap and serves a great breakfast and that is central to Pembrokeshire then this it. If you want some where like the Hilton hotels then forget it.
- Stephen (8/5): I enjoyed my stay and the interaction with the owner. The hotel was recommended to me by a friend. - The car park for residents was a good addition. The location was very good. The proprietor was a real character. The food I ate was good. Not a lot to be honest.
- Simon (8/5): Very good -
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Vasilica (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michelle (6/5): Pleasant - clean and convenient location reception not always manned, only breakfast options, basic facilities, bed was hard and I had back pain every morning
- Philip (10/5): pretty good - even haVE THERE OWN SECURE CAR PARK CAR PArks in the area very expensive
- Maciej (7/5): Good -
- Anne (8/5): Very welcoming, friendly atmosphere. -
