Guest Reviews
- Paul (7/5): Superb customer service and great food! - Staff and food were excellent - comfortable room and great value. The team could not have been more accommodating - i would stay again just because of the service alone. My particular room well fitted out and comfortable but it was located beside a main road so there was a lot of road noise.
- Shelley (6/5): Lovely accommodation but noisy - Always clean and well decorated. Lovely breakfast and friendly staff. The door has a glass window but no blind-outside light of the pub shone in until very late and then woken early by sunlight-it needs a blind.
Room was cold on arrival with thin duvet.
Noisy room-door of the room opens into extremely lane of the pub and you can hear every move of guests upstairs including their snoring!

- Parkin (8/5): Overall great - Staff, breakfast, location Room a touch noisy, could have done with a desk to work at.
- Tony (9/5): was ideal for what we wanted, lovely place and room cost reasonable, would stay again for sure - Lovely rooms, great evening meal, good beer and friendly staff that smile Cost of breakfast that we paid separately, and bar closing time for residents
- Michele (9/5): excellent stay - it was a lovely venue service and staff was fantastic and the room was clean and comfortable. nothing
- Margaret (9/5): Fantastic would definitely stay again if in area. - Pretty Location next to canal, accommodation, staff and food all excellent Traffic noise from cottage 2 and bed too hard.
- Mark (8/5): Good value. - Despite being next to a road it was very quiet. Room was clean and bathroom was very spacious. The room was of a good standard and tastefully furnished. Not a dislike, but limited normal.tea bags, just one each. Would be better to have more, but that's a minor detail.
- PedroHop (10/5): - Great room. Even better food.
- Gina (10/5): Very enjoyable stay - Second stay here, fabulous rooms, clean and tidy, would definitely recommend. Nothing to dislike
- Stan (5/5): Excellent room, noise issue with beer barrels early morning. - Pub beer barrels rolling outside the door early morning. Noise pollution. Noise pollution early morning.

- kerry (8/5): Fantastic, would come again - Beautiful room, right on the roadside but very quiet.
Clean, staff were friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was delicious Electric car charger didn't work and noone knew how to work it.
- Farzana (9/5): Modern, comfortable facilities, a clean and well‑equipped room, and an excellent on‑site restaurant catering to diverse - This was a delightful place to stay. The facilities were excellent—modern, well‑maintained, and very comfortable. The room was clean, neat, and well equipped with everything needed for a pleasant stay. The on‑site restaurant was a standout feature, offering excellent vegetarian and seafood options.
- David (10/5): Fabulous stay in a lovely village ! - Great pub restaurant and room ! Service was excellent too :) Nothing
- Heidi (10/5): - The Dragon is in a lovely location alongside the canal. It us very vibrant with lots going on.
The food was really good and the staff were excellent.
- Lucy (9/5): - Very good service with staff fixing a problem for us very quickly and efficiently.
Bed was super-comfy. Room spacious. A greater choice and quantity of refreshments in the room would've been helpful. We were staying for 2 days so quickly ran out.
- James (10/5): - Very comfortable accomadation and handy for the bar and restaurant. Staff were excellent. Function room was cold.
- Robert (9/5): Enjoyed our stay at the Dragon - Staff courteous and v competent.
- Rosaleen (9/5): -
- Martin (9/5): - Staff were very friendly. Sunday lunch fabulous, as was breakfast, it was very good food. Room was away from pub itself, so nice and quiet. Very comfy bed.
Pub right on the canal, with towpath for walks, and pub garden if weather had been better. Pub was very full, though the carpark was big parking was difficult as we arrived at 2pm during the Sunday lunch rush.
As they were busy, it was hard to get the attention of the staff, and then our room wasn't ready (we were early). We had lunch (prebooked table) but were moved off after 90mins as table was booked for someone else after us; service was slow due to how busy they were, which meant we didn't get to have pudding. Since we were staying and it was a cold wet day, we'd expected to be able to stay in the pub all afternoon.
When we were eventually taken up to our room it still hadn't been cleaned from last occupation, so we were then taken back down and across the yard to a different building and a different room (juggling bags and dog with us). Staff were very apologetic.
- James (8/5): great stay, staff great. would 100% stay again. - Breakfast great, coffee was fab.
id stay again for sure, lovely pub/restaurant I parked my nice car in the car park, and someone selfishly scratched the rear of the car, a few cameras in the car park would be good.

- Martin (8/5): - This is a good location with friendly staff. The room was clean and quiet. The canal side location provides a nice setting and easy access to walks along the Howatharra. The Breakfast was very average
- Margaret (9/5): - I loved the dragon, and the room I had was really great . Was pleasantly surprised it was on the ground floor as I'm disabled . Food we had was really nice and gluten free for a friend really good . Just the late night banging coming from room upstairs. It was the same for my friends staying in the room next door to us .

- Mohit (9/5): - Happy, courteous and helpful staff who were obviously busy but made every effort to make time for you... The road noise from the cottage rooms was obvious at 5 am but I appreciate the age and nature of a lovely old country pub!
- Julie (9/5): -
- Lea (9/5): - Great location, good local pubs. Need to go again when it's raining all the time, and dark.
Room we had was really good and clean. No complaints.
- Maurice (8/5): Very nice hotel and the staff mirrored the surroundings. - Nice small hotel with nice staff. I didn’t have negative feedback
- Lisa (7/5): Nice hotel friendly staff good location - It’s a nice quaint hotel in a handy place for my Work. The room is nice. Breakfast was good. The parking is a bit of a problem because it’s obviously linked to the restaurant so if you get there after work and people are having an after work drink is hard to get your car in.
- Janet (10/5): Great cozy stay - The room was very comfortable and nice. Staff were really helpful. We had no remote control for the tv and Emma came over a few times to help us. Very friendly and helpful. Thank you Noise from the main road. Our room was on the main road.
- Peter (2/5): - Excellent staff
Excellent food
Great location for me My room was next to the main road
Which does get noisy
- Jason (8/5): Lovely property, excellent food and great company - The room was very clean and just as it was in the photos. Our evening meal was loverly and the presentation was fantastic. Nothing to dislike
- adam (10/5): -
- Rachel (9/5): I'll be back 😁 - The room was lovely. Very comfy bed, great shower. The location was ideal for me and it was great to have a restaurant on site. There was no chair in the room which meant I had nowhere to hang my coat (I couldn't use the wardrobe as my coat was wet). It also meant I had nowhere to place my clothes at night.
The streaming service on the TV wouldn't work despite me asking for help. Eventually I managed to run it from a hotspot on my phone.
- George (7/5): -
- Jase Moore (8/5): -
- Cecily (9/5): - Comfy room, lovely staff. Good location for what we needed.
- Antonia (10/5): Cosy vibes! Definitely recommend - Such a beautiful room that felt extremely cosy! Loved the snacks and the breakfast was also amazing! Parking as an overnight guest was a little tricky as the car park was completely full with those who were dining at the restaurant
- Jade Florinda (10/5): -
- Keith (8/5): -
- Amanda (8/5): - Huge cosy bed. The decor is lovely.
- John (9/5): Excellent -
- Mairi (6/5): Pleasant. Potential to be so much better. - Good sized, spacious room with really large bed and nice en suite shower (stayed in a superior double). Right next to the pub which is nice. Small village with one other pub across the road. But also just across the road from the train station. All felt very cosy in the winter. Nice selection of coffee, tea biscuits. No water available in the room but will provide if you ask. Good location, especially for summer, on the canal. Clear disconnect between the pub business (where you go to check in) and the accommodation. Felt that you were slightly unexpected on arrival and departure. Felt very impersonal with all communication done via auto-email - I get that in a large hotel or premier inn but not in what looks like/should be a cosy guest house.
No wifi. It says there's wifi but it is very poor. It offers "guest" and "guest room" wifi but you're only permitted/directed to link to guest. This might work in the pub but is no good in the room and keeps dropping out and going to your own phone network. We went back to the pub to ask for the guest room password but were told we had to join to standard guest wifi. Explained it was no good. We were told they "couldn't help". Therefore, the smart TV was also pointless so, unless you wanted to watch what was available on "freely" you had nothing. So much for a nice Christmas move after dinner.
- Paul (8/5): Excellent stay, really comfortable and if it wasn’t for the internet issue I would have given it a 10/10 - Good food and great ambience in the pub. I enjoyed the fire place. The staff were very friendly and professional.
The room was nice and comfortable. No complaints there at all. I struggled to connect to the WiFi internet at first and there is limited cellular signal to hot spot. I eventually got some access, but it was most likely it was due to my own tech.
- claire (7/5): Would stay again but ask for a quieter room away from the road - Very comfortable bed and a great Sunday roast Our room was very noisy
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Tim (9/5): -
- Colin (9/5): -
- brereton (10/5): - The shower was to hot and couldn't turn it down
- Jane (9/5): Excellent for an overnight stay - Large room with huge, very comfortable bed with mattress topper and choice of pillows. Good toiletries and towels. Very good value for money. We didn’t have breakfast but dinner was good pub food and staff were all very friendly and helpful. The handheld shower attachment was missing so there was only an overhead shower. Low level lighting in the bedroom looked attractive but wasn’t much good for reading.
- Michelle (10/5): -
- Zoe (9/5): - Food was great, staff very friendly, rooms very comfy.
- Tom (9/5): - Staff were v welcoming and helpful---Room was comfortable and v nice---thanks v much All was good
- Rebecca (9/5): -
- peter (9/5): - The accommodation was excellent bed very comfy and shower very good
- Burleigh (9/5): Great location and vibrant pub with excellent team - Not my first stay here but as good as last time thank you! Such a popular pub that parking is a challenge at times
- Guy (5/5): OK, but a bit expensive for what it was and no B&B option. - The location was very good for my needs. Easy to find and a good sized car park. The room was nicely designed and the bed was fine too. Better than a budget hotel, but not twice the value. The pub is large and busy and the rooms are in buildings around the pub. However, I was woken by the large extractor from the kitchens. Closing the window didn't help much either. Ask for a room away from the extractor.
The room was fine and nicely designed, but the shower room was poor. Open shower so water goes all over the floor and mould on the wall where the water splashes. The fixed overhead shower looks good, but the water pressure was poor and there was no hand help option.
Breakfast is not included and, with a couple of coffees was £25 per head on top of a relatively expensive room.
- Timothy (5/5): Upsetting - Room was really good one of the best we have stayed in. Enjoyed the first evening.
But following evening was a last minute booking above us family from hell so much noise went on for hours complained to management but made no difference noise all afternoon didn’t stop until nearly 1am they should have been asked to leave management should have come and sat in the room to understand what we went through started again at 7.30 am unbelievable
- Gwyneira (9/5): - Cold, could have done with warmer quilt also only one chair could have done with one more. Too many cushions had to put them on the floor.
- Suzy (8/5): -
- KAREN (9/5): Great stay lovely location - Great location and good for walking along the canal. The hotel was great, we had a lovely room and meal in the restaurant. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming particualrly as it was a very busy evening that we were there. The bathroom in our room was large and everything looked new and well designed. The only negative was parking was quite difficult as there was a function on. We did get a space eventually so that was good.
- Maryann (10/5): Comfy.Tasty food and half hour from Alton Towers what more can you want - The staff was what made it for me.Could not do enough for you. From when we got there to when handed back the key.10/10.We had food on arrival and Sunday lunch on departure.Food was amazing and the service was exceptional.
Room was comfy.Looking forward to staying again when we come to Alton Towers in the future
- Clifford (9/5): -
- Sharon (8/5): Good value. - Good value for money. I asked for a quiet room and it was next to a main road.
- Richard (9/5): 2nd visit & highly recommend - Very friendly staff, super comfy bed & room styling, good quality food & excellent location Grout in the floor tiles in the bathroom of room 7 need’s refreshing
- Helen (8/5): Great stay - The room was well presented. Tea an coffee making facilities in the room. Very large bathroom with shower.
Perfect location for what we needed. I have no complaints at all
- PAULA (9/5): Good choice for a night or two! Great restaurant attached. - Great staff - so friendly and helpful. Modern and clean decor.
- James (8/5): -
- Russell (9/5): Great stay, great value. - Great location , nice walks to be had along the canal, food in the restaurant both dinner & breakfast was exceptional. Staff were all super friendly.
Room was clean & tidy. We have rebooked to visit again in april. We stayed in room 5. The stairwell up to the rooms smelled musty as if there had been a water leak at some point.
The bed had a noticeable squeak.
- Ernie (8/5): - It’s a pub with rooms in adjacent houses. Convenient for the purpose of our visit. Arrangement of pub and adjacent houses a bit haphazard and scruffy passing kitchen deliveries and refuse.
