• Lauren (3/5): Tried for a 2nd year, just as bad as the first year! - Can't say much positive We tried this inn for a second time a year later - ended up with the same sad room as last year, room felt creepy, run down needs a refurb, bathroom smelled damp, had a huge ceiling damp patch and felt unclean.

• Dan (4/5): Helpful staff who allowed us to check in earlier, but the room was disappointing. - Cannot fault the staff who were helpful throughout the process, allowing us to check in earlier for a wedding. Bed was comfy. Unfortunately, the room was not very clean, we found crisps/food on the floor, a small blood stain on the bedding. There was also poo splatters around the rim of the toilet. The shower kept losing pressure and going cold and wasn’t clean.

• Mike (2/5): Would not stay here again. - Food was rated badly on TripAdvisor so we ate out. The condition of the bedroom and particularly the bathroom was dreadful. We wouldn't even shower there. Tap was broken, Cobwebs, dirty shower and floors. Really need a full refurbishment.
• Carl (6/5): Fairly good stay following a trip to Haynes Motor Museum - It was an ideal location for my trip. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The place had a welcoming feeling. Issue with the hot water supply and the food was fair for a public house but needs to be better.

• Phil (7/5): I would use this venue again and recommend it. - Friendly welcome, nice room although a little on the tired side. Lots of character in the building. Easy to find and good parking. Very good meal, good beer. Didn't see or hear any ghosts! The only downside was the kitchen extract fan on the outside wall of the room. This ran all night and the humming noise reminded me of my time on a ship! I assume this had been left on in error as it must have cost a fortune in electricity.

It must have been there for weeks. In two of the three connected rooms, none of the electrical sockets worked.

• Clifford (6/5): A generally pleasant stay and value for money. - The Bar Area, Dinner/restaurant although service slow, Helpful/hardworking but limited staff. Ample car parking off road. Lack of daily room servicing, No breakfast available. Short staffed.

• Val (5/5): Rating easily improved with more thorough and thoughtful cleaning of the room - The room was warm and spacious and well furnished. Big bed and nice towels. Appreciated the tea making facilities (but only 2 T-bags for a double room!) Plenty of parking and very convenient for Sparkford Hall The room felt a bit dirty and tired - the bath had a scum ring, the sealant was very mouldy. I think the bed was clean but the quilt smelt strongly of another person so it felt like sleeping in a stranger's bed.

• graham (7/5): Pleasant comfy and warm - The old feel, location was good for our trip The fire doors are ruddy heavy so people ’just let them go’ and they banged loudly at all times. At least you know they are closed
• 2JJenny (6/5): Pleasant staff but would not stay here again. - The menu for lunch and dinner was very varied and the food was good. We ate in the bar area and also in the dining room, both of which were comfortable. Plenty of good off road parking. The bed was very comfortable. We were surprised to be told that there was no breakfast served! This was not evident when researching places to stay. The room was very cold as only about a tenth of the radiator was warm and the windows did not close properly so let in icy air. The room was not serviced in the morning so we had to ask for extra tea and milk for the next morning. The shower was very difficult to regulate so we were either dowsed with cold water or boiling hot water.

• Samantha (7/5): Perfectly adequate for the £ - Location for the museum was what we wanted. Dinner in the pub was lovely with great friendly staff. Room was comfortable, lovely and warm. Bathroom needed a bit of TLC.

• Grymnor (1/5): The worst hoteI I have ever had the misfortune to stay in. - Nothing. The hotel was run down and falling apart, which wasn't surprising as it looked like it had been built/decorated by an 8 year old with his toy toolkit. We had to wait 30 mins to check in because the chef had to finish lunch service and clean up, before he had time to make up our room. The only other member of staff was a young girl who was confused by simple questions like: "Which of the 2 keys you've just handed me are for the room, and which for the front door. One was a Yale type and the other a long dead lock type! She meant well and was friendly, and tried, I just think this was her first week, or even day, in the hospitality industry. We were told there was no food available, because.... you guessed it, the chef was making up our room and wouldn't restart food service after. There wouldn't be any drinks available after 5pm because the girl was locking the till and going home. They didn't do breakfast and when I asked about checkout I was told to just drop the key in the bucket as I left. The double bed was 2 singles pushed together, but not joined, so yes I slid down the gap in-between lol. The most comical bit of all was the TV + sofa room between our bedroom and the bathroom. A room which looked out over the car park, but had no curtains on its 2 windows! It made for an interesting "run the gauntlet" to get to the loo in the night. The reason there were no curtains... they'd been ripped down, the splintered bits of curtain pole were still up. There were only 2 plug sockets in the bedroom, 1 of which was in the far corner, so if like me you have something that needs to be plugged in (my CPAP) then you were out of luck for anything else. I could go on, but why spoil the surprise 😀
• Donna G (7/5): - The staff were lovely and welcoming. The room was a bit dated but had everything we needed. Unfortunately our electric kept tripping, so had to find someone to sort this out a couple of times. They were helpful. The bed was comfy and there was enough coffee,tea and milk provided. Having to find someone to sort out our electric issue, but they were very helpful. The shower!! Blimey, needs a new head as the water only came out in drips, not great when you want to wash your hair! Other than that, everything was fine.

• Chris (1/5): Not very pleasant and certainly not good value for money. - Not a lot The shower was dirty. The pump in the bathroom kept me awake all night. I couldn't access the internet. There was absolutely no information in the room. There was no shower gel or shampoo in the shower. There was no breakfast service. The previous evening I downloaded a discount code for the meal , wrote it down and showed it to a member of staff. This was not allowed because it wasn't on my phone or laptop. I couldn't address this because I couldn't get internet access. For my main course I had the steak and ale pie The crust was very hard; presumably, it had been left in the microwave too long.

The booking.com advert said there was fruit in the room for guests and free toiletries but there was no fruit and only handwash. Unfortunately the venue didn’t do breakfast and that meant travelling a few miles in the car to another village.

• Mark (8/5): Good enough stop over for us - we’d stay again. - A decent good value stopover for us on our way to the west coast. The pub staff and locals were friendly and the beer and pub grub adequate. Our room was quite large, we slept well and the bathroom facilities worked fine. Plenty of free parking. Ideally it could do with a bit of a general refurb but then of course it may not be such good value?

No breakfast available. Staff non existent. As guests, could not get into the bar at 10.30pm for a drink even though there were people in the bar.

• Lee (4/5): Not great for the accommodation. Pub is good and very helpful staff. - Pub friendly staff kids liked the pool table and playing darts. Great location. Our room was dirty on arrival Friday evening. The floor was filthy and I had to get one of kitchen staff to come in and hoover the room again. The shower has no power and goes from hot to cold in seconds. The bathroom was also dirty. Not was I was expecting with my 2 children. I was looking at using this place every other weeknd for me and children. The room and I can only comment on this room needs massive attention. Painting as ceiling looks like it has water damage and needs painting. Just a little bit of attention to detail does go along way. But this massive lacks any of it. Unfortunately looks like the money goes into the pub and not the accommodation.

• Rachael (4/5): A deep clean and general maintenance needed. - Really friendly and kind staff. Bed was comfortable. Room wasn’t clean and the bathroom was filthy. Shower didn’t work and went from scolding hot to freezing cold no matter which setting. Only two sockets worked. Fan was provided but was caked in dust.

• Alan (5/5): June 2025 - Our third stay at Sparkford Inn due to its excellent location. Basic room with new fridge, shower, and managers. Good evening, meal. Uncomfortable beds, not updated for several years. No breakfast, very disappointing recent change. No seating, dangerous stool. A two-seater settee would be a significant improvement. The room cleaning could be improved, especially in the bathroom area. In my opinion, Sparkford Inn seriously lacks investmen by its owners.

• Edward (6/5): OK for a short stay - Needing a one-stop stay whilst traveling we just wanted somewhere to 'crash'. The Inn is in an old house and hence modern facilities cannot be expected. The room was fine and comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Purely a matter of personal taste but I thought the real ale (which I love) was a bit ordinary.

• Harvey (8/5): Nice place to stay. - Nice place to stay - very convenient for events at Sparkford Hall as its walkable in 10 minutes - comfy family room which was spacious and had the essentials with a nice clean bathroom. Would stay again in the future as it was in quite a nice location.
• alun b (7/5): Nice inn - Perfect location for the Haynes motor museum was able to walk to the museum and leave the motorcycle in the car park. Cheddar gorge is a short drive away. Inn is nice and cosy with a restaurant on site. It was a bank holiday even though the restaurant was closed for bank holiday they still catered for us as guests. There is a mcds down the road walk for a few minutes for breakfast. Bed was comfortable and there was a large TV on the wall. The bathroom door handle has pointy bit on it Managed to stab myself on it twice really needs filling off. Lost marks for this There was no hot water for hand washing or shaving. There was a kettle so I got round it by billing kettle. Room 8 has an uneven floor and it slops.
• Vivienne (7/5): Just a place to put your head and nothing else. - Nothing in particular, it served its purpose. Response was good Bedroom door was glass pane with a blind. Felt like it was an d office door, room very hot even with window open, kettle didn’t fit under the tap to fill up, TV wouldn’t switch on. Absolutely no one around. Signage to rooms could have been clearer. If there had been a fire, not sure I would have found my way out! No instructions etc re WiFi, or even a pointer where to find breakfast locally.
