Tuesday morning my husband and I were greeted by Julie the manager and Cindy at the front desk. Julie and Cindy win the hospitality award for making you making our stay a home away from home. Our room was spotless, the outside entertainment, and location makes this Hotel so special. Thank you Julie and Cindy and to your wonderful staff for making our trip such a pleasure.

- Robert (8/5): Wish I could have stayed longer… - Charming hotel. Love the history. Staff is extremely nice and welcoming. Enjoyed quietly reading a book by the fire pits. I happened to stay in a room that was above the furnace, I guess? So my “Comfort “ rating would have been higher, but my room was pretty hot - even with the window propped open. Not a huge deal tho. Really loved my first trip to BI and my stay at The National. Will definitely be back. Thanks again to the staff!

- 274cindia (10/5): Rhode Island’s National Hotel on Water Street Is the Lovely Queen of Block Island - The majestic National Hotel sits on Water Rd on Block Island as a queen of hotels. Its beautiful white porch beckons you to enjoy a delicious lunch there with seaside views and refreshing breezes. When I visited with my husband Dave, two young granddaughters, and Hartford, CT friends, we enjoyed the friendly service, efficient wait staff, extensive menu choices, ice tea refills, savory clam chowder, flavorful fish, and ample portions. Granddaughters Hazel & Charlotte said that their chicken fingers were the best ever. We recommend the warm apple Betty for a luscious dessert. Upon exiting the ferry, we walked for just 5 minutes to this beautiful hotel with the well- deserved reputation for excellent seafood, steaks, and drinks. Catching the harbor views added to the ambiance. Photos show our smiles after finishing our meals and heading off to see breathtaking beaches, historic lighthouses, New England stone walks, intriguing monuments, and scenic walking paths with twists & turns.

From the view on the front porch to our server, to the drinks n food! Everything was of great quality! I had a burger that had bacon jam on it and it was the best burger that I have had in my life! Can’t say enough good things! A must go !

Our room was disappointing...the dresser drawers were stuck and hard to open and close, the cable TV was only basic channels, and the bathroom was very small and dated...shower water would go cold which was not good.

- Peter (8/5): Historic hotel in great location - The National is a great place to stay. Super location, very friendly and helpful staff, and very historic. The historic part is something you should understand before booking -- the hotel dates from the late 1800s, so the rooms are not like a modern hotel -- they are not as big or luxurious. But they are fine, especially because on Block Island you don't want to spend lots of time in your room anyway. The other possible thing to expect is some noise. The windows are not soundproof, and there are gatherings in the evening below the rooms.

The hotel itself was very accommodating with storing bags until our checkin time and then the day or departure as well as providing beach towels. There was life music every night in the back patio area. It is loud until 10:00-10:30 but we did not mind it as we heard it from our room and enjoyed it. Great location on the island- amazing food and drinks at the restaurant and bars downstairs. We will be back!

- TraceyS80 (6/5): End of Summer Beach Trip - Block Island is part of Rhode Island and is definitely a worthwhile one hour ferry ride. The island is quaint, friendly and very easy to navigate. We have visited many times and always wanted to stay at The National. We finally made it and found the staff very helpful and courteous. Outdoor entertainment in the evening is a bonus, and the location is perfect. Be prepared for small guest rooms. This is an historic building with "quirky" configurations. The bedding can use an upgrade (to match the per night price!), and the bathroom was a throwback...but to the 80's. Mother Nature didn't cooperate but we still enjoyed our visit.

The rooms are small with views and the outdoor music around the fire pits is great. The food was disappointing but the hotels location offers some great places within walking distance to dine.
- martinmQ4400PM (10/5): A throwback to another time - Loved everything about my stay at the National. Had never visited BI before and the historic hotel met all my expectations and more. Rooms are small, but they all are here, as I understand it. Regardless, I highly recommend! Food, excellent. Bar, fun. Drinks, well mixed. View from the porch, outstanding. Service, spectacular. My one suggestion for mgt is that the music during the day in the courtyard—where the firepits are—is unnecessary at the level it was. No one is there to listen to smooth jazz fusion at level 9 1/2. A quiet area to read and talk with friends during the day would be wholly welcome. (In the evening, have at it.) Small note for an otherwise enjoyable vacation.

Julie the manager is outstanding and has accommodated our large group every year for the past 7 years. The rates are still reasonable. The rooms are air conditioned and some renovations have been made. The food is very good and we enjoyed the Sunday brunch w the lobster Bloody Mary!!
- HappyNaplesLady (6/5): Functional but disappointing - This hotel dominates the street and is a beautiful classic from the outside. The rooms have been renovated and are comfortable enough - but extremely plain and very unattractive (mismatched furniture, gray). The owners put in just enough money and effort to have clean and quiet rooms that look like a second rate motel. Staff are helpful, especially the front desk and housekeeping. The garden and front porch dining are nice options.

Enough space between the tables that we were not able to hear the conversation next to us. Good selection, even good lemonade.
- BobMyr (10/5): Wonderful stay - We stayed several nights in a corner room, which had great ventilation and plenty of space. The room was spotless and comfortable. The service at the National was impeccable. We had several meals, all excellently served and prepared. My gripe is that both TA and Google state that breakfast is free. We were never offered free breakfast; we were only told that brunch starts at 9:30 am and was an extra charge.
- semiretired52 (6/5): Nice Hotel across from Harbor - The location of the hotel was the best. The rooms were very small. I think the cruise ship room was larger. Bed wasn't that great. We had room #103. Thankfully it was only to sleep in and get shower. They did have a large porch to eat on. Plus the back had a lawn set up with firepits for evenings. Service was great at meal time.

- Q7853YAshannonb (2/5): Fire pit - no service - We sat down at one of the fire pits outside. After 10 minutes we went in to see how we go about getting the fire turned on and getting served drinks. We were told someone would come out and help. After 10 more minutes someone came out and turned on another groups fire and took their drink over. Their drinks were served and no one ever came over to serve us or ask if we needed help. So we left, underwhelmed.

The New England chowder is the best I’ve ever had. Julie and her team are honestly perfect in every way. Product knowledge and attention to detail on a very busy Saturday night in august was perfect. - bellazucca (8/5): Loved the live music ! - I walked by after dinner and heard the live music behind the hotel, so I went to the bar ordered a cocktail and then sat on the Adirondack chairs and chilled for an hour . The backyard "garden" is a great place to sit with a drink and relax by the firepits. The music was an added bonus ! Folks could also eat dinner on the deck and the weather was perfect. The musical guest, Mike Douglas Berardo was great and he performed from 5:45pm-8:45pm. Check him out if you're on the island this weekend.

I would definitely recommend this place and I would stay here again. The breakfast was so good. If you didn’t want to order what was included with your stay they gave you a 10$ credit per person which I thought was a great idea. We stayed in an ocean view queen room. Highly recommend staying in that room! What a beautiful view of the sunrise. We really enjoyed our first Block Island experience.

- LollysLook (8/5): Block Island - The National Hotel is a favorite of ours. The location is prime. Its in town on the main strip overlooking the water. Their restaurant has the best banana mudslides and lobster rolls. The new back patio is the place to be at night with live music, fire pits, couches and Adirondack chairs. Its a Block Island landmark.
- Road1e1 (8/5): And the Craic is good - Unlike another historic property we stayed at on our trip the service here was very good with well trained young attentive and hustling staff here We stayed a a well aged with historic hotel with poor service and this place was the opposite . Its a little worn and our room was tight with no elevators so be prepared to carry your bags up stairs .I get up early and its amazing to see the effort to mop and clean the hotel everyday The mood here is great and we spent alot of relaxing time on the back porch watching great musicians perform I recommend requesting dinner at the round table behind the front desk I had the Shrimp Oreganata twice it was so outstanding and breakfast has included and very good The Surf and Beach Bar on the other side of street was also a great place for drinks and lunch as well

The property is beautiful with gorgeous ocean views and a relaxing atmosphere. The food was fantastic & we really enjoyed the live music. The most amazing part was how helpful Gabby and Julie were at getting our bicycle tire back to us after someone accidentally locked their bike to our tire. They absolutely went above and beyond to help us out!! We can’t wait to come back and visit. Thank you so much to everyone at National Hotel!!

- I1055TWsuzanneb (10/5): Wonderful as always - We have stayed here for 3 short trips. Always comfortable and beautiful sights to see. Our room was quaint and lovely, with 2 windows so we were able to get a great crossbreeze. The hotel is historical and very well maintained. One of its most enjoyable offerings is its gorgeous fire pit, out in back of the hotel. It's the perfect place to unwind after exploring the island either by foot or on a bike.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff and service was excellent. Only downside was rooms were a bit small. We stayed in a corner room which was a bit bigger and would highly recommend over the smaller rooms where our friends stayed. Also next time will need a fridge. .
- Tammy (6/5): Noisy, expensive but quaint - The ambiance was great. The room was very small but quaint. Shower stall was so small you could not bend to wash your feet. We had a first floor (one flight up) room near the stairs. It was extremely noisy. The live entertainment could be heard until 11 pm and the partying afterwards went on until after midnight. So, there was not a restful night’s sleep during our 2 night stay. Food was also VERY expensive.

And easy to get around from the terrific location. If you need an elevator and super cool trendy stuff, it might not be for you - but we loved it.

- Verified traveler (8/5): End of summer getaway - Location was very convenient walking distance from the ferry. The staff was great we was able to check in early which saved us a lot of time. I know the hotel is historic and they are limited to what that can renovate. But the room was hot only a ceiling fan and a small table top fan. For the price of the room I would of thought it would have AC rather than a giant tv we didn’t even turn on. Thankfully it was only around 80 that day. Other than that we did enjoy our stay the restaurant & bar was very good too.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location, good for dinner & lunch. - Hotel staff were friendly. Front desk staff were very quick and pleasant. Nick at the restaurant for lunch was great. The included breakfast was a bust. The options for breakfast were horrible, and the waitstaff in the morning were not efficient. We sat at the table for about 30 minutes before we had to get up, go to the hostess stand and get a manager to come over. Even at that point, the manager was only going to take a drink order when we were ready to order. Multiple tables ordered, got drinks and food before us, and they sat down after us. Otherwise, it was a great location, wonderful property. Our room was small and old, and as we expected no AC, so it was a bit warm and stuffy, but we managed.

- Heather (10/5): simply delightful - This was a couples trip for us. We took the high speed ferry from New London. Docked in Block Island you could see the National on the water. Easy walk with suitcases to hotel. Easy checkin, super nice staff. Of note, our room was on the second floor, no elevators. Our room quaint, small, overlooked the harbor, but no air conditioning in this old historic hotel. We were comfortable with fans and ocean breeze. Restaurant was superb , front porch dining could not be beat for view and breeze. Food delish. Waitresses friendly and polite. I was amazed to see the General Manager clearing tables. Staff treated each other respectfully and were helpful to one another, no one harried. On street level of hotel were lovely shops with classy, interesting art, and jewelry, tees and crafts. Within a block of the hotel is a wonderful beach/open air restaurant, patio, and beach with numerous tiki bars, entertainment and chair and umbrella rentals. You dont have to lug stuff to island or beach. We will return!

- Verified traveler (8/5): - Walking distance to Ferry and ocean front. Beautiful huge wrap around porch for meals or drinks. Rooms were small for 3, but very clean. Food was very good for breakfast and dinner. Our stay included a free continental breakfast for both days , however, we got a complimentary upgrade including a full breakfast for our first day as well as an ocean front room for our second night (room was larger). I would highly recommend for accommodations and/or meals. Will stay here the next time I am on the island.

- Lori (8/5): If you can't do steps, this hotel is not for you! - Steps, steps, steps! I told the hotel that i had mobility issues, so they assured me of a room on the first floor. Little did I know that the first floor was up two flight of steps, in addition to the ones to get up to the hotel. I couldn't walk after two days. The hotel sent up ice for my knees and dinner to my room. They were terrific about it. I would have rather spend my last day on the beach, but that was undo-able. I just want to warn people that there are no rooms on the ground floor.
- laurie (8/5): Hotel - Room view was great ,comfortable bed. Shower was not hot enough and little pressure. Breakfast was adequate . You have to walk up stairs to get to your room and that's bad for older people like me.
- Rosann (8/5): Nice quick getaway - We were there for 3 days exploring the Island. The National did offer a free continental breakfast until 10:30 a.m., so you didn't have to be up and out too early. Other than that the Island is very quaint and fun to explore. Not many restaurants are open after the Labor Day Holiday. We would recommend this hotel.
- Kathryn (10/5): Very Pleased - This is a very nice historic hotel, particularly for the price. The location is great. The only problem was that the restaurant and bar closed the day we arrived, so it wasn't quite as lively as we had hoped. However, it was the off-season and not surprising. The front desk had good hours and the sundries shop was open until midnight! All and all, we enjoyed it very much. The wifi was slow, but the free breakfast was excellent.

- Laury (8/5): - Nice Hotel close to the ferry. Our room was quaint with a small bathroom and queen size bed. The extra fan was a bonus as it was very hot the days we were there.

- Jo (10/5): Relax - Perfect place to stay. Just get off the ferry-walk across the street and you're there. People are friendly. It's an old hotel so no AC but it's charming. You can walk anywhere. Breakfast was excellent on the porch.
