• Mel (6/5): - Box spring had a big stain on it. Tub needs replacement. Wall plug covers missing & broken. Lounge person doesn't understand that the customers are his priority, not showing a new hire where everything is. Got 1 drink then 46 minutes later was asked if I wanted another. Ordered an appetizer and a main course. They came within 5 minutes of each other.

Hasn’t had a good cleaning in a long time . Toilet was plugged when I got there , I hadn’t even used it . Went and got a plunger from front desk and did it myself . Got it working so so . Bet the wax ring has squished out and has half of the pipe plugged . Still isn’t right but . They have been doing construction for over a year now and still no end in site . Couldn’t have a nap in afternoon with all the banging and thumping going on . Restaurant has always had decent food . Totally not impressed overall . I never thought about taking photos to share . Glad to be home now .

• Stephanie (2/5): - We stayed at the Northern Motor Inn for five nights August 1-6,2024 The two double beds room was so small you could not get around one side of either bed. The room was very old, dirty and in need of repairs. One of the lights by the beds was missing a switch so you couldn't turn it on. The shower head sprayed the entire bathroom. They painted the bathroom ceiling and left the blue tape all around the ceiling. After two nights and no housekeeping we stopped at the front desk to get clean towels. The front desk clerk ran literally around to a couple different areas only to come back and tell us there were no extra towels in the hotel. I realize it's a busy weekend but really there's no pool here and they have no extra towels for the rooms. The room was only cleaned one day out of the five nights and really was just the beds made and maybe the bathroom counter wiped. The floors were not cleaned or vacuumed. And never received clean towels. There was a towel that was behind the toilet that never moved. There was cat food behind the bathroom door that never moved in five days. At check in the front desk lady was very short never explained that there was a breakfast included. I just happened to look at their site and realized that they had breakfast included. When we inquired about it the third morning we were given the coupons. if every hotel in the area wasn't full we would have found different accommodations. there is a nightclub on site very loud till 2am

Restaurants and liquor stores, gas stations and just about anything you need. Walmart is just around the corner.
• AndyS529 (2/5): Going down hill fast - This place has gone down hill in a hurry under new ownership. Unhappy staff. High prices. Poor quality. Poor internet. Poor TV package. Not happy with this place anymore! Now they are charging drivers $20 just to have a shower. They are bringing in all foreign workers and pushing long term employees out. Terrible atmosphere!

Our neighbour next door was loud all night with TV audible in our room, a truck ran idle in parking lot all night, towels were removed from room but not replaced (room was messier than we left it), slight smoke smell embedded in room, and the room was dirtyish (right on threshold to gross). Even at low price I think a better alternative is worth finding.

• 613robynb (2/5): Never Again - Never again. I am a disabled combat veteran of 21 years in the Canadian Armed Forces. I went in with my service dog. I asked for a room for persons with disabilities. "We don't have those" Do you have military or a disability discount?""or AMA discount?" Receptionist "we don't do discounts here." You can talk to management in the morning" Ok, so I purchased a room as it was midnight. I was asked to use a mask. In which I had told the receptionist that I have a service dog and an exception letter 2 times prior. I said, "I have an exemption letter, would you like to see it?" I was chuckled at. In the morning I came for breakfast I was not informed I had to be vaccinated to enter the restaurant. I went without breakfast that morning because they gave me no options to eat. I am disabled and did not want or think I should have to go to McDonald's. I grew up in this town and I am shocked and appauled that the Northern has become what it is. I brought the bug to the front desk in a ziplock bag and the front desk worker was not that surprised and said oh you found a bed bug, asked if I would like a new room which I replied “no thank you I’ll just pack up our stuff and check out” THIS WAS JUST AFTER 9AM SO WITH TWO KIDS AND OUR STUFF IT WAS POINTLESS AND UNNECESSARY TO MOVE OUR STUFF INTO ANOTHER ROOM FOR A HOUR... so I did so and came back to officially check out a hour later because that’s how long it took me to pack up our things in garbage bags and get the kids situated, I asked the clerk if I was getting any sort of refund or anything to which he said sorry since you booked through Expedia I can’t do anything for you which I understood. So I called Expedia after check out and they put me on hold to call the hotel and she comes back and says that the hotel couldn’t compensate me for anything because I refused a new room.. I told the Expedia worker why I refused said new room and she said sorry but that’s what the hotel said so the only thing I can do is put 50$ on your Expedia account.. thank you Expedia SCREW YOU NORTHERN INN! DO NOT STAY THERE!
• DaddyE444 (2/5): Don’t eat at the restaurant - Third time eating there/ordering out and this experience was like the rest. I had hoped for better food because a few of my coworkers have said the food is good but me and my family have had no success. This time we ordered the super beef dip and skyscraper burger. We ordered out since the whole covid thing is still happening and when we checked the food we were just baffled. The beef dip was missing the au jus and I had asked for mushrooms on the burger, they had put canned mushrooms (5 to be exact) straight out of the can on it. I had to pull them because it was so gross. The reason why I’m writing this is not because this is a one time thing, this has happened 3/3 times we have gone. Either way do not recommend the restaurant at all.

The bartender Lisa stayed open long enough for us to have a couple drinks, we arrived late. So she was amazing as well. It is a typical "truck stop" hotel. The rooms are simple, but clean and comfortable. We had neighbours but didn't hear them too much. This is a great stop for couples and adults.
• snowman4455 (6/5): An Older Place To Stay - We were in Thornhill (Terrace) to attend the Skeena River Country Music Festival. The room we got was very small, with one queen bed. We stayed for four nights and every day we had to ask for a second wash cloth. After we checked in I found the bathroom basin drained water at a very slow rate and I had to go to the front desk and ask for a plunger. After considerable plunging I got the basin draining properly. There was no effort by the staff to help with the issue. We are both seniors, in our mid seventies. We were told that we were given the senior rate of $94 per night ($106.22 with taxes) but when we arrived the Northern's sign stated rates starting at $94 per night. No mention that this was a seniors' rate, which I doubt. We received a comparable room, at the Billy Barker Hotel/Casino in Quesnel for $10 less per night. Next year we will shop around for a better room and rate before attending the Skeena Valley Country Music Festival.
• ch0pperchef (8/5): SURPRISED ! - Well I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised with my stay here last month , Normally my company puts me up in the Holiday Inn just across the street from The Northern , but for some reason or another the bookings got mixed up and there wasn't anything else available that night , so I got dropped off at the Northern . I wasn't overly excited about the idea and with no other options I went inside and checked in . The receptionist was very friendly and helpful , even helping me carry my bags upstairs to boot ! You now know the downside of this place , no elevator to get to the 2nd floor . . Once inside the room , it was clean , and not worn out , maybe a little out dated , but it was just fine . I needed extra pillow , no problem , they got one for me . No bad smells or stains , clean linen , the lights worked .The T.V. was an issue with 2 remotes , frustrating !Room was quiet , no bugs (bonus) . Restaurant has really good food and amazing service . Main reason for not staying before was the out dated slightly run down look of the outside . I will stay here again , don't judge a book by its cover ! John Clifton

• PookyCake (6/5): Dated but Clean and Convenient - Ah, the Northern Motor Inn (NMI)! This hotel, which is technically located in Thornhill, has been around since the very early 1980s, if not even earlier. My grandparents once told me that they’d stayed here in and around the mid 80s and I wouldn’t be surprised if it – the hotel – looked the same now as it did back then; that is to say, the NMI is kind of like going through a time warp – it’s looking a bit dated and even tired here in 2019. The general layout, décor and ambiance all hearken back to a decade nearly 40 years past. But more on my stay in a moment. Located out in Thornhill, the hotel is a few minutes’ drive from the downtown core of Terrace. For some, this might be a bit of an inconvenience, especially if you’re without a vehicle, but I found the location quite ideal: Being away from busy downtown, the area was a lot quieter and thus resulted in a much better sleep quality. Even if you’re without a car, there are other amenities within walking distance. For example, the Thornhill Meat Market offers a nice selection of hot eats and sundry items, as does the gas bar adjacent to the NMI. As well, the NMI is less than 10-minutes away from the Terrace airport which, for me, was another clear and definitive plus. As for the hotel itself, as I said, it’s an older building and reminds one of the so-called “big 80s” in style and feel; however, it is clean and welcoming. There is ample free parking for standard and over-sized vehicles; and once indoors, you’re greeted by friendly, chatty staff and many a bear motif (which I quite enjoy). The interiors, though, are quite dark and feature rather dim lighting. Everything from the main lobby to the hotel room corridors are lit in such a way and, for me, this kind of contrasts with the upbeat staff. I understand that the NMI is going for something of a “backwoods/lodge” type feel, but I think this is also what makes the place a bit dated. Given the nature of small town hotels, you might expect service to be a little sleepy at times. With respect to the NMI, I would say that’s half true. Check-in and check-out were a breeze and the in-house restaurant staff were efficient; however, housekeeping kind of sucked. On more than one occasion I had to wait until well past 4PM for my room to be made-up. In retrospect, it would’ve been far more efficient for me to just straighten the bed sheets myself. That said, the NMI does feature a good number of the amenities we now tend to take for granted of a modern hotel: It features vending machines in the main lobby to satisfy those late-night snack cravings; a small laundry facility in the event you’re here for an extended stay; meeting room facilities, complimentary WiFi; and good in-house dining via “The Bear Family Restaurant.” And for those who want a bit of the hair of the dog that bit you, the NMI also features the spacious – but loud – George’s Pub, as well as an on-site liquor store (oh my!). The in-house restaurant at the NMI deserves special mention because it punches well above its weight. The hotel’s (dated) website says the eatery offers “a taste to satisfy every appetite” and I’d say this is true. The menu is wide-ranging, as it kind of has to be being a hotel restaurant, but everything I’ve tried has either been very good to excellent. Of particular note are two seemingly contrasting items from different worlds: The wonton soup and grilled salmon. While both dishes are on completely opposite sides of the spectrum in terms of flavours and execution, they’re both equally awesome. The wonton soup is rife with fresh veggies, house-made wontons and broth that is a little spicy yet full of flavour. I’ve had wonton soup in places that allegedly specialize in Chinese food and their offerings didn’t even come close to this one. Likewise, the grilled Pacific salmon was nothing short of divine. I’d ordered this dish with a bit of hesitation (I mean, come on, seafood in a cheap hotel restaurant?), but was pleasantly surprised by the item as a whole. The presentation was simple and straightforward: grilled, colourful vegetables on the side; a modest serving of steamed rice; and ample, perfectly grilled salmon topped with a beautiful lemon sauce. The salmon was tender and juicy. In fact, I’d go so far as to argue it didn’t even need the sauce. Who would’ve thought you could get top quality seafood in the NMI? Certainly not me. The lesson here? Never judge a book by its cover! In summation, I found the “Bear Family Restaurant” to be above average when it came to lunch and dinner; however, breakfast wasn’t quite as exciting (despite what others have said). As far as accommodations go, the rooms are very small and dated but clean. My unit featured a double bed which, even though the smallest of bed offerings at the NMI, still made the room feel a bit crowded. The bed itself was a little too firm for my liking and the sheets and pillows kinda felt like they’d been there since “Day 1.” On the plus side, the room did feature a microwave, flat-screen TV, mini fridge, coffee machine, complimentary water and a strong WiFi connection. The bathroom, while clean, was reminiscent of an airplane washroom – very small – and thus hearkened back to hotels of yesteryear, which were designed in the same way. I do have a few issues with this hotel, however: 1) The walls are very thin and so you can hear people as they simply walk by your room, etc. As this place has a popular pub attached, I imagine it can probably get rather noisy on the weekends. 2) The water temperature in the bathroom shower fluctuates wildly. It will move from hot to cold and back again, OR it’ll just keep getting hotter regardless of how little you’ve got the “hot” water turned on. I’m surprised I didn’t end up with burns on one occasion. So, you’ve been warned. Finally, the hotel doesn't have an elevator, so if you've got mobility issues you'd better request a ground-floor room otherwise you'll have to climb a couple flights of stairs. In summary, I’d say that, overall, the Northern Motor Inn provides for a decent place to stay. The rooms are clean (but dated); it’s close to the airport (less than 10 minutes); and the in-house restaurant is a pleasant surprise. It’s not a perfect hotel by any means, but it does well in those areas that matter most. Plus, they’re quite inexpensive, advertising rates at just under $100 a night . . . a nice change of pace in a town where the rates are creeping up in anticipation of the apparent LNG boom.

• gochrey (8/5): Good food and good service - This is a hotel that Procon Mining and Tunneling use for the overnight stay on the way to the Brucejack mine. Tracy at the front desk does a remarkable job of ensuring that we all get checked in quickly and efficiently and with the utmost professionalism and friendliness. The restaurant opens early on our "out" day and provides a light lunch as well.
• KimL3311 (6/5): Medical trip. - Hotel is getting old and a bit run down. Room was small but it was clean. Checking in and out was good. People at the desk were very nice and helpful. Happy we got a room on the main level as there is a large staircase to go up to the 2nd. floor. It is out of the town Terrace, but only takes about 10 mins. to drive into Terrace. We went to Terrace for medical.

The bar closes late, no security to usher the parties off the property once the bar closes. Party guests are Very noisy in the halls. Rooms are adequate. Looking for new accommodations while in Terrace. Done with the Northern after all these years.

The restaurant is above average for an older hotel/motel like this! We would stay here again. . . the front desk was very accommodating, seemed sincere about helping visitors!
• OnlyTravelsForWork (6/5): Clean Place to Sleep - It's nothing fancy, the rooms are fairly dated, but it's a clean place to sleep with a good restaurant and friendly staff. Plenty of parking. If I can't get into my "go to" hotels in the area I will stay here without hesitation.

The only thing I didn't like was the styrofoam coffee cups, and there were only two cups worth of regular coffee for the Keurig coffee maker. There was a nice area to walk the dog nearby as well.

The only issue was that there was a Poltergeist in the bathroom shower and the second floor was rented to a herd of elephants, who never slept all night. Sound does transmit through the walls of wood buildings, so if you have a noise concern book a hotel in a concrete building. Alternatively, stay here. It's a decent hotel.
• William5012 (10/5): Business group - The Northern Motor Inn met all needs and expectations. Very pleasant staff at the front desk and restaurant. I have never stayed here before. The place has a reputation for being a little busy on the weekends so my stay was very quiet and restful on a Monday night. Lots of parking for large and small vehicles.
• freyjan2014 (2/5): Loud Until 2am - Staff Cold & Unhelpful - We stayed a Friday night because of a ball joint failure on our car. We were going from Burns Lake to Prince Rupert and ended up being towed from the Kitwanga Junction into Terrace for repairs and we needed a place for 3 people (one being 6'3) and a dog. The local 2014 guide quotes a price of $75 for this hotel and we called and checked in with a $120 quote. We ended up being charged $133 no matter how much we complained. We were up in the lobby complaining about the LOUD music at 1:30am (I mean loud. Like, someone playing rap obnoxiously from their car right outside your window all night and NOTHING YOU CAN DO about it.) and we were told this is "normal" and nothing else. Not a word. The staff just stared into the computer and did not even apologize. We then decided to walk the dog around...only to be surrounded by falling over (and vomiting) drunk people all over. One even threw up into the cab on her way in. And then her friend yelled obscenities at the cab driver when he got upset about it! No police anywhere. The rooms was tiny, meant for ONE bed but had 2 double beds in. For 3 people and a dog, 2 double beds and one center aisle...no way around on the other sides! The water temperature fluctuated wildly - normal-hot-cold-hot... Our car was ready at 3pm and the staff WOULD NOT budge on allowing us to stay a little longer (we had no where to go, were not from there and were not planning on being there. We already had spent - $350 towing, $40 in cabs, $200 for hotel + food and $250 to come in car repairs!) They would not allow us to stay longer, no matter what. We ended up leaving our luggage at the car shop and just walking around that area for 3 hours. We enjoy visits to Terrace and the other places and people we encountered were very pleasant as was the rest of our trip. The only problems we had during this trip was the ball joint, the weather (RAIN) and our stay at the Northern Motor Inn. Date stayed - October 3-4, 2014
