Guest Reviews
- Carrie (10/5): Beautiful vineyard stay and property - Stunning location, very peaceful and quality amenities. Lovely breakfast they bring to your suite to enjoy on the patio overlooking the vineyards. Took a tour and wine tasting and they were flexible to add us on despite no reservation. Only negative is ZERO response from the host. Literally did not respond to my messages and I used a few methods. And difficult to connect with anyone at the winery since she didn’t respond to my questions due to their hours as well.
- David (10/5): Wonderful! - We had a wonderful stay in the Liatiko house. It is clean, quiet, comfortable, and close to Heraklion. We enjoyed a dinner there, as well as a wine tasting experience.
- Alison (10/5): Wonderful! - A beautiful location with views to die for! We had a delicious dinner and breakfast served to us on our own private the terrace. Just amazing! Nothing
- Symeon (10/5): -
- Jose Carlos (10/5): - Todo maravilloso
- Katerina (10/5): - Fantastic location, away from the city but only an 15 min drive from the city centre. Excellent breakfast. Thanks to Ms Chryssa for the great hospitality. The main bed was very comfortable however the sofa bed wasn’t.
Schade...
- Bijan (10/5): - One of the best properties to stay in Crete to get the real Cretan countryside feeling. Magnificent mountain and hill views, comfortable room and very nice people. Part of the Skalani area, good access to highways, and only 15 minutes drive to the center of Heraklion.
- Chiara (10/5): Amazing breakfast and unique location - Unique location, refined decoration, amazing breakfast brought to the room every morning. Nothing
- Fotios (10/5): -
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb - Amazing breakfast, large space, picturesque room.
- Serena (6/5): - The vineyard these villas are located on is absolutely beautiful. The breakfast is amazing and made to order (you fill out a breakfast menu card when checking in and it’s served at a time of your choosing each morning). It’s a rustic but elegant place and in need of a deep clean. The floors, bathroom and sheets are definitely well looked after but every corner has cobwebs and spider nests dot the ceilings. The outdoor patio furniture could use a good scrub. I washed down the table and chairs myself before breakfast was served. This place is still worth the stay but be cautious if you’re looking for ‘crystal-clean’.
- Amy (10/5): - Beautiful beautiful ❤️
- Isabella (10/5): Exceptional - The location is amazing, a little piece of heaven! I loved everything about our stay and our host was ever so kind!
- Michel (8/5): Great stay - Gorgeous location and surrounding. Very Nice staff. Nice food and wine. bathroom has no window, therefor its damp. Here and there in need of a little retouching.
- Jill (8/5): Very good - Beautiful settling among vineyards, breakfast excellent. Staff are fantastic 👍 Pity residents had to pay €25pp for wine tasting. Dinner is €40 pp at the restaurant booked 24 hours in advance and not many other options for dinner nearby.
La colazione abbondante viene servita all'orario richiesto.
- Andrea (10/5): Amazing stay! - Amazing property, great staff and beautiful surroundings. The views were breathtaking. She staff very friendly and helpful. We highly recommend this place. The breakfast was exceptional as well. Nothing
- Alejandra (10/5): Amazing stay! - + Location - The property is at a vineyard there are only three rooms so it's perfect for a few nights away from the business of other areas in the island. There are a few really nice activities around (olive oil farm, Knossos, etc.) but still you have the peacefulness of the area.
+ Food - The breakfast was great, we also ordered dinner one night it was definitely worth it.
+ Staff is super friendly & helpful, they did everything to accommodate our needs.
+ Wine tasting on location - of course being at a vineyard you can select from various wine tasting options.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - Go. Stay. Drink. Enjoy.
The residence is a magical place off the tourist path with an epic winery and gracious staff.
- Ashley (10/5): It was a unique and wonderful experience that I would highly recommend! - This property is special. I felt that the accommodation itself was very thoughtfully designed with ample space both indoors and outdoors to enjoy some peaceful days at the property.
The vineyards and outdoor areas are beautifully maintained. The air and the light particularly were splendid.
We really did appreciate the activities on site, such as the winery tour and cooking class. It was a nice opportunity to experience a love for food and wine through a local perspective. The staff too were exceptional. They were kind and caring and very responsive of any additional needs we shared.
Overall, we had a very positive experience and I'm so grateful we came by this property in our travel research!
- Robin (10/5): Quiet Beauty - This was our favourite place to stay in Crete! So quiet and peaceful. The room was beautiful with everything we needed including an amazing outdoor sitting area with the best views. Chrissy brought us the best breakfast in the morning including fresh fruit. Also enjoyed an amazing dinner brought to us which we ate in the outdoor patio. The wine tasting experience was also fantastic! Everything was perfect.
- Phyllis (10/5): Lovely private suite - Beautiful private terrace where we had an amazing healthy breakfast. We were greeted personally by Xrisa who accommodated to our needs. There were complimentary small bottles of their wine in our room. We love how we werent far from Heraklion but still stayed in a quiet place near a local town. Nothing!
- Ermioni (9/5): Superb -
- Richard (10/5): Wind down at the winery - Brilliant hilltop location overlooking the vineyards and olive groves. Lovely rooms . Breakfast and dinner served to your balcony by such lovely people. The wine tasting and tour was interesting with some good wines to try . You had the place to yourselves in the evenings and early mornings to wander the vineyards. Nothing
- Travelingblackbird (10/5): Highly recommend! - The Liatiko appartment is perfect for a couple. Comfortable, clean and with amazing views from the terrace. A delicious, fresh breakfast was served there by the best staff. We also booked a cooking class with them, which was a great way to spend the afternoon when the weather wasn't the best. The vinyard and gardens are well maintained, peaceful and quiet, while conveniently located close to the airport. Oh and there is wine too... what more could you want? Highly recommend!
- Lane63 (10/5): Beautiful, peaceful stay - The location is beautiful and peaceful. The accommodations were very cute. Breakfast was excellent.
- Michael (10/5): Wonderful experience. - Beautiful location. The apartment was very clean and comfortable. Close to Knossos. The "door" on the larger bathroom needs to be changed (it is more of a sliding curtain than a door. Perhaps replace it with a sliding "wooden barn door." Breakfast on the terrace was wonderful. The staff at the winery was outstanding. The olive oil/cheese/wine tasting and Cretan menu was awesome. All in all, we highly recommend this place as a great alternative to Heraklion.
- Pamela (10/5): Serene atmosphere in the middle of rolling hills filled with grape vines. - The unit I stayed in was the building that had been used to crush grapes. It was really unique, very pretty and large. Breakfast was served on the patio right outside my front door. It was delicious and the setting among the vineyard was gorgeous. The winery is right next door and the cooking class and wine tasting I had there was fantastic. There is a long walk from the parking area to the units but staff helped me with my luggage.
- William (9/5): We enjoyed it - Good quiet location yet close to Heraklion. Very comfortable. Good breakfast Although a self contained appartment it is not suitable for self catering. We did get a take away but there are are no plates or cutlery
- Margot (8/5): Beautiful location, very obliging staff - Decent room & nice to have balcony/terrace to ourselves. Interesting quiet location. Bedding comfortable. Food (breakfast & dinner) was delicious and more than plentiful with the lady serving very pleasant. Wine bought from the vineyard very nice & really enjoyed reading the Malvasia history book in the room. Although had a dining option there was no real alternative to eating outside and it was windy and cold in the evenings at this time of year. Would be good to have the option of dining inside the winery in that case. This was room only with no kitchen facilities. Some maintenance is due on this room, the shutters & mosquito nets not working properly and a broken drain in the bathroom. Had an issue with Booking.com as half payment had not been charged as expected which made it awkward at check-out.
- Alexis (9/5): Superb -
- Manuel (9/5): Unique and beautiful stay - The location is perfect and beautiful, unique. Have the opportunity to stay on a vineyard it’s awesome, breakfast was great and serve right outside your room. The WiFi is really slow but I’m guessing for the location is like that.
- Rebecca (9/5): Really friendly staff, especially the main host, called “Goldy” I believe in Greek. - The place hadn’t received the booking from booking .com. The accommodation team was so helpful and found us a room. It was not their fault but we have a similar issue with booking. Com before, not fulfilling our booking.
- Pamela (10/5): Very special experience. - It was a real treat to stay here and felt very special. Such a beautiful setting and so peaceful. The lady who served our food (dinner and breakfast) was so kind and the food was so delicious. The rooms we rented were beautiful and characterful too. Nothing
- Valerie (10/5): Peaceful retreat with a generous, delicious, breakfast. - Very peaceful. Felt like we had the estate to ourselves, which we kind of did. We stayed during a heatwave so we slept all day, while the estate was open, and were in and out before and after the winery guests, and staff, were around.
- Dan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Greg7579 (10/5): Fantastic place to base to see one of the very best areas of Crete, - It took me a day to figure it out, but these are 4 suites on the property of the Boutari winery, which is one of the biggest (and really excellent) wineries in Crete. The suites are beautiful and about 70 meters past where all the wine tastings take place. The whole property is fantastic. The stone building with the 4 suites has beautiful big patios that are literally in the vineyard and olive grove with beautiful views out over the valley and to the mountains. It's a quiet place and the winery has no restaurant (but does have beautiful big tasting rooms that where I'm sure one could schedule a tasting. It doesn't matter that there is no restaurant at the property because 1 Kilometer away is the fantastic restaurant Elia and Diosmos Olive Mint in the village of Skalani.
We used this suite as a base for car trips all over the wine region and were gone all day on scenic drives through the mountains and vineyards in that whole area. It is 10 minutes from Knossos and 10 minutes to the beautiful village of Archanes. It is 30 minutes to the beautiful area around the village of Kastelli, which is surrounded by amazing Byzantine churches and monasteries. We spent three days driving all around that area, which is perhaps the most dramatic and impressive in Crete. Parking is plentiful, free and close to the room. The rooms are big and very nice. The views are fabulous. It's a great place to base. Breakfast is great and served to your room by the hardest working woman in Crete, who ran back and forth to the winery to bring trays of food and drink at breakfast. You can take it in the room or sit on the beautiful patio.... Nothing. It was perfect. Internet is a bit slow but I was told it was about to be very fast when they link it to the winery network capability. They don't push the tastings. But I'm sure one could schedule a tasting of that famous wine. I didn't ask because we were out touring in the car all day.
- Baron (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rasa (10/5): Perfect place in very charming surroundings! Wish to come back here! -
- Pablo (9/5): Beautiful place, amazing wine! - The rooms are just right in the vineyard and the winery - really nice scenery, you can actually go for a walk through the vines and do the wine tasting in the winery (better to book it in advance to make sure they are still open as the last tasting was at around 4 or 5PM).
Rooms are really nice and comfortable with private outside seating. The only thing we didn't like was that the window shutters were not closing fully and it was a pretty windy night so they kept on banging against the wall making quite a lot of noise.
- James (9/5): quaint inn with beautiful vineyard and hill views 10 minutes from Knossos - Great views, quaint inn on winery property so far away from property management, who did not respond to emails or calls
- Marlen (9/5): Amazing location and luxurious room. - Modern, well decorated room. The bathroom particularly was luxurious. The patio was very nice to relax with a glass of wine in the evening and to enjoy the breakfast. Outstanding location in a small hill overlooking the vineyards. Perfect for a short stay to enjoy the wine tasting. Too many lights on overnight in the main entrance/promenade that avoid enjoying looking to the stars.
- Cserfes (10/5): Being in harmony with the nature.... - Everything. Fantastic location in the middle of the wineyard. Local breakfast served át the terrace. Very stilish and spacious inside area. Before we had arrived I would have booked a tour for Sunday and They had told me that would be closed that day. But there were lot of people visiting, so it was not true.
- Lucy (10/5): Peaceful and restorative. - Wonderful peaceful location and a lovely large terrace where you can watch the sunrise. Nothing
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Nicola (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jane (10/5): Amazing views, peaceful, lovely room and very helpful staff - perfect. very - beautiful peaceful location, spotlessly clean, modern decor and large walk in shower. we had a terrace with panoramic views of the vineyard and countryside around. Delicious breakfast was served on the terrace. it is on the site of Boutari winery so a very short walk home after a wine tasting. Great taverna in village 3 minutes drive away.
- Megan (10/5): - This was the loveliest place we stayed. It's rural and the views are amazing. It is simple, quiet and relaxing and the staff are amazing and really made our stay special. They have a small menu for guests and the food is EXCELLENT! We will stay here again even longer next time we are in Crete.
- Andrew (6/5): Excellent location but lacking in basic facilities - The location was everything we expected, beautiful scenery and quiet and peaceful Strange when we were staying in a vineyard that there should be no corkscrew or wine glasses in the room. We had brought a bottle of Boutari wine with us to drink that evening and by the time we realised we did not have a corkscrew everything was shut up.
- Csaba (9/5): Enjoyed a good wine in a beautiful environment - Nice, clean room, spacious bathroom, very friendly staff in an amazing environment. We enjoyed one of our favourite wine the red Scalarea 2019. We were hoping to have a tour to the wine cellar, but unfortunately partly due to the shortage of staff this got cancelled, but the wine tasting was good.
- Nancy (9/5): We very much enjoyed our 3-night stay. - Breakfast was served outdoors at our suite. The food was mainly local produce, very fresh and tasted wonderful. Evening meal, when available, was a variety of traditional Cretan cuisine, again fresh produce and very generous portions. The staff were very courteous and attentive, but not intrusive. Wines on offer were very good and some exceptional. The site location was peaceful countryside amongst vineyards and olive groves. Nothing of note.
- Sarah (9/5): Superb -
- Grant (9/5): A wonderful stay - Great location in the middle of the vineyards with country flair. The rooms are tastefully built and decorated. We loved sitting in the shade under the pine tree in the courtyard. Breakfast and the service was great. We did a wine tasting and the staff member was very friendly. The bathroom smells a bit stuffy but as it's built like a cellar it's probably hard to avoid. The doors to the shower and toilet need to be adjusted.
- Paraskevi (7/5): Good - I liked the hospitality of the staff, they were very eager to help and make our stay comfortable. Even though I had emailed that we were vegan (I've booked a wine tour) and had received a confirmation about my request the kitchen was quite unready for our request. It was the first time that happened, (we have already visited the residency three times before and everything was perfect) so it was not such a big of a deal
- Claudio (10/5): -
- Bea.youngi (7/5): Good -
- Gabriele (5/5): Passable - Beautiful venue, nice view, good breakfast. Cleaning can be improved. The bathroom, as reported, smelled funny (a bad odor was coming from the little manhole on the floor). We spent a whole day with no running water. We solicited the repair, yet the technician showed up only late at night and, since there was no reception or hotel manager at the location, we had to supervise the fixing operations ourselves for a couple of hours, having to cancel our plans. 4-star location, yet poor customer care. Such a pity.
- Pierre (7/5): Perfect for a short stay (to get to a Knossos tour early or late for instance, to avoid the crowd). - confortable, stylish, clean, beautiful location Lack of hotel service, except breakfast. It is not an hotel (the people of the vinery leave around 6 PM and come back the next morning for the breakfast) and it is not an apartment with equipment for a long stay.
- Santo (9/5): Superb -
- Richard (8/5): Quiet setting outside Skalani - Three large, modern, comfortable residences located adjacent to (but not owned by) the Boutari winery tasting room. Plan on waking about 100 m from the winery parking lot. Beautiful view. Quiet setting, not like the craziness of Heraklion nearby. Breakfast served on the patio outside the apartment.
- Ryan (10/5): Enchanting - Fantastic visit to Scalani Hills.
Perfect location to explore the region and nice breakfast. Short drives to fantastic restaurants. Loved the patio.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Très bien, bel environnement - Bonne expérience, beau cadre. Grande chambre.
Freundlicher Service, originelles Zimmer, besser geht es kaum.
- Craig (10/5): - We had an amazing 2-night stay. The location, surrounded by vineyards and orchards, is wonderful. The breakfasts were delicious and were served on our private terrace overlooking the countryside. It is a very short drive from Knossos, and easily accessible from Heraklion, although a car is advisable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - First of all I want to state that we travelled post COVID and we were probably one of the first to arrive.
In general the hard product is nice. Only three rooms, situated only 15 min from Heraklion on top of a wine mountain.
However, the room/suite we booked, was rather dirty. Especially the bathrooms were both dirty and a little smelly as well (property is partly in the mountain which generated an old basement kind of smell). For that reason I would recommend a deep clean. Maybe just hire a company that cleans the rooms thoroughly after standing empty for the COVID months. After that, I imagine the property being quite special. At the moment it’s rather disappointing, since the outside is very nice and promises a better experience than you’ll get to experience inside due to the dirt.
Positive:
Nice Breakfast on the terrace
Nice & helpful staff
Negative:
Dirty bathrooms & old basement scent
(If applicable: you for sure need a car)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Peaceful and beautiful environment close to restaurants in Scalani and Archanes.
- Gigi (10/5): - It was simply fantastic! Breakfast on the lanai overlooking vineyards. Fantastic people that work at vineyard. I didn’t want to leave!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is a really beautiful boutique property, just a short drive into the hills from Heraklion. The welcome was well organised and so friendly. The breakfast was AMAZING. The setting is so pretty. It is just a short drive to Knossos Palace. The suite was very spacious and beautifully appointed. There was a good amount of space for the three of us.
- craig (10/5): Wonderful location - Was amazing place and wonderful setting and service
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautifully appointed rooms located right on the vineyard. Fantastic shower and large living space plus outdoor seating for a great view of the vineyard during the excellent breakfast they serve. What really made the stay memorable was the hostess Chrisi's hospitality. She was delight and so helpful when we had any questions or needed anything. Thanks Chrisi! Would definitely stay there again. Also the wine is very good, worth picking up a bottle!
- KB (10/5): - A beautiful location in a vineyard in a renovated farm house. Peaceful and quiet. We enjoyed a lovey breakfast on the veranda surrounded by grape clusters and in the shade of a fig tree.
- Andrea (10/5): LOVED our stay!! - Wow! What a view. They were super accommodating as we arrived very late. The breakfast included was delicious and the place is just beautiful!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Beautiful, relaxing location - Beautiful, relaxing location. It's quite remote, but we managed without a car.
It's not far from Knossos.
Liatiko room has its own private terrace, with a fantastic view.
- M (8/5): - The property is quiet and the views are amazing! The location is great bc it is close to Knossos and middle of wine country. It is next to the Winery which we were able to have a wine tasting and cooking class. Breakfast is served outside and really great! The staff for both winery and property is so friendly and helped us get taxis bc we didn’t have a car. High recommend!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Stunning views, beautiful property, clean rooms, friendly and attentive staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Scalini Hills is an absolutely beautiful property!!
Everything about our stay was lovely!! Breakfast was delicious and was served on our terrace overlooking the vineyards. Try some of their wines, Boutari, as they are very good!!
- Julie (8/5): Pretty Scalani - We had a wonderful time. George greeted us and settled us into our room, we had a lovely wine tasting and George gave us some history of the winery and advised a local restaurant where we could have dinner. It was very nice.
Great quiet location.
- Richard (10/5): - Fantastic location and friendly , helpful staff
Great breakfast , comfy bed
- Richard (10/5): - Beautiful location among vineyards and mts and only 15 min from Heraklion port. Great breakfast and staff. Room spacious and nicely decorated. Bed very comfortable
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful spot! Offered a free bottle of wine upon our arrival and staff was very friendly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Anniversary trip - I would stay here again just to eat the wonderful breakfast served in the gorgeous courtyard. Maria was warm and welcoming!
- Young (10/5): - The winery and room is first class. Beautiful and romantic setting surrounded by the vineyard and fig, lemon, lime and pomegranate trees. The outside the room breakfast area is under grape overhang. We had romantic private dinner cooked by grandma Maria. She does not speak English but very kind and warm.
- Talin (10/5): - The exterior and interior both were very well designed.
