They kindly left bread, butter, tea coffee and sugar as well as a bottle of rose wine which was such a lovely touch! Oh and chocolate for the kids 😊 There is not one bad thing I could say about the apartment

• Graham (9/5): A very comfortable apartment with everything we wanted, attention to detail and thoughtful extras. - Met by friendly, helpful host, with local information. Lovely outside garden accessible direct from main bedroom. Bottle of wine, milk, tea and coffee, jam, bread, small treats, all provided. Everything worked well. Was hard to find as no street numbers

• Nadeeshani (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic place. The hosts are very accommodating and considerate. Bread, milk, jam all available when we arrived at midnight. All the heaters were on. Very comfortable, clean, and very well presented. The owner did our laundry since there was no washing machine. Would recommend it to anyone. Home away from home!

• Geman (10/5): Spectacular accommodation - This is the second time we've stayed at this accommodation during our trip to Durham, and I can confidently say it's excellent. Everything is well-maintained, clean, and top-notch. The hosts, Giles and Louise, are amazing – we highly recommend it!

• Mark (10/5): Super Clean and Comfortable Apartment - Super clean apartment. Comfortable beds and lounges. Multiple TV's. Facilities also include two showers, large fridge and plenty of heating. Plenty of provisions. Of note this included a bottle of milk and loaf of bread (a first for us in over 30 nights of accommodation in the UK!!) Walking distance to supermarket and hotel Owners live in adjacent house Convenient apartment to use to explore Newcastle and Durham There was nothing we did not like.

Property was spotlessly clean, excellent facilities everything you wanted to have an enjoyable stay. Hosts provided a welcome pkt of milk/ bread etc to start us of which was a lovely surprise. The property was close to Chester le Street where we were attending a sporting event. I would have loved to have stayed longer. A real home from home. N/A

• Anne (10/5): Excellent, clean and comfortable apartment - Lovely clean apartment that was well stocked with everything you need. It was on a bus route into Durham, there was a pub that sold decent food at reasonable prices two minutes walk away and a mini Morrisons The owner was friendly and helpful. We found it to be in good condition and comfortable, but the owners are doing a refurbishment of the windows and bathroom, which will make it even better. Thank you for a lovely comfortable stay Giles and we'll hopefully see you again The only niggle was the design of the single beds. They were very nice, but had a lip around them that we caught our legs on a couple of times, then we learned not to walk so close to them 😆. This is not something that would put me off returning though.

• Stephen (10/5): Excellent apartment. Great in every way. - The apartment was excellent. Everything you need for a comfortable short stay. Friendly and helpful host. Nothing. Everything was as good as you could hope.
• Reimar (9/5): welcoming, pleasant, friendly accomodations offering quite some space - Arrived very late at night, didn't need to disturb anyone, just got the key from the key box. The owner left us some fresh bread, butter, jam and cookies for breakfast, so that we didn't have to go out to get something ourselves. Very considerate, nice gesture. Didn't have to pay for it either. Kitchen well-equipped. We didn't do any cooking, but everything seems to be there. The host is really welcoming and friendly. Not being able to ask so late at night, we removed different diffusers from the apartment and placed them outside, as we found them disturbing. The host didn't mind at all, on the contrary, showed total understanding. Private parking space a bit at the small side. So be aware when arriving with a larger SUV. No problem though for good drivers.

Hospitality was amazing.I would highly recommend staying at the apartment if you want to visit the Bemish Museum, which was only a 12 minute drive, and it's only at 10-15 minutes' drive to the centre of Durham. Great local pub and mini Morrisons nearby. Nothing

• Cath (10/5): lovely appartment,excellent hosts,great value for money - we all thought the appartment was lovely and in a vey nice village,the hosts were lovely too,very pleasant and helpful. The pub in the village served very good homemade food and had a very nice atmosphere there was nothing that was wrong with the appartment as far as we were concerned but to answer this question if we were to be very very picky then the beds could be a little more comfy but that is a personal preference regarding the mattress

I would usually choose to stay in a hotel but this apartment has changed my views. It was a great base to see the local area and to come back and chill with a drink. The small outside space was a bonus and we were able to eat outdoors. We didn’t have any problems; all went well

• Stephen (9/5): fantastic value, spacious, clean, quiet, very comfortable, w/ easy access to both Durham, Beamish - We stayed at the Bancroft for two nights. It was a fantastic value, spacious, clean, quiet, very, very comfortable, with easy access to both Durham, and Beamish Town. There was a very good pub,(The Travelers Rest) with fair prices, a couple of blocks away. Our cheery host met us when we arrived and told us about our apartment, and the nearby pubs. The apt consisted of three levels. The small kitchen/dining /living area was at ground level. Then there were a few steps up to the main bedroom/bath. There was another bedroom upstairs. Parking was tight! And access to the private off-road parking was best obtained by approaching from the East, and crossing both lanes to ensure that you could "line up" while navigating the thru the narrow entrance. parking, and entrance and exit from the parking area
• Duncan (9/5): Excellent. - Cosy comfortable small home. Ideal for visiting Beamish and Durham. Very pleasant hosts available to give assistance if required.
• James (9/5): An excellent choice if you have a car and are in the North East on a budget. - Friendly owners, easy to find, clean and well equipped. Just be aware that there are two showers but only one toilet.

• Rob (10/5): North East's finest - Excellent property, everything you could need, amazing beds so comfy, spotlessly clean throughout, in a nice secluded location but close to Durham. The hosts Giles and Lou are so nice and genuine, nothing is to much trouble for them, was great meeting Tom and Rufus too, we even got Lou her first taxi gig as we were struggling to get a cab into Durham, so Lou kindly took us in in her own car. This is now our go-to place if we ever need to visit the North East again Going home
• James (10/5): Super little flat, perfect for a weekend away. - Great property, modern spacious and clean. Giles, the owner greeted us we found him to be warm friendly and extremely enthusiastic. Facilities mostly new and the 2 showers were knockout. Overall great place.

Was cold in evening and going bed, was warned about this but was the downside as we don’t need heating on in day but would like to been warmer when relaxing watching tv 10pm to midnight and falling asleep but didn’t effect our sleep and woke up nice and warm. Would rated full marks if been Summer.

Our stay was short & sweet and unfortunately I was under the weather, however I felt at home in the apartment. The apartment is very clean, decorated nicely, very cleverly laid out and very comfortable; in fact the most comfortable bed we ve stayed in. Nothing ... Poss could have left soap and extra toilet roll but v small detail ...

Perfect for family of 4 - Excellent hosts, property very clean and comfortable excellent location Oven was very slow and didn’t work too well for cooking a meal. Did chat to hosts and hopefully they can replace. Heating was either too hot or too cold but hosts aware so hopefully will sort.

• Helen (10/5): Fantastic little apartment! - Really friendly hosts, nothing was too much trouble. We asked if there was anywhere to store our bikes safely while we went out for the day, no problem was the answer! When we arrived at 10.30 we were allowed to check in as well as it was all ready for us. It was also my birthday and a little birthday cake appeared on the work top! Just small touches that make a big difference. Thank you Giles, Lou and Tom we had a lovely stay, looking forward to seeing you all again soon. Nothing!

• Anonymous (10/5): Lovely stay, would happily return. - The property was well laid out, comfortable and very well equipped, with absolutely everything we needed including a cheese grater, tupperware and even tinfoil! The owners even left us some milk and a loaf of bread, which was very thoughtful. Great location - a short drive to both Beamish (about 15 mins) and Durham (10 mins).

• James (9/5): Superb - Lovely apartment and ideal for small family. Close enough to Durham but quiet little village. Handy well stocked local shop. Cooking facilities were ideal and cosy space. Not a dislike by any means but would of been good to of been able to access streaming services on TV such as Netflix etc. And having own washing machine would also be an advantage (although laundry service was available). The upstairs shower room could possibly be extended to have a loo to avoid kids or that having to come down stairs at night. Honestly no faults these just personal opinions

• Andrew (10/5): Great apartment conveniently located for Durham - This is a great apartment and we really enjoyed our stay. It is in a small village just a few miles from Durham - we drove into the city but also used the buses which run every 30 minutes from about 5 minutes walk away and take 11 minutes to reach the centre. The apartment was spotless and well presented and had everything we needed for a short break. The owners (who live next door) were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended and we plan to visit again if we want to stay around Durham.
• Gemma (10/5): Home from home - We had a lovely few days at Bancroft. The apartment is spotlessly clean, well designed and thought through, with a brilliant eye for detail, which made time away from home with 2 young children so much easier! We were given a warm welcome and made to feel completely at ease and relaxed. We will be booking again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Bancroft to fellow families or even for a couples break away.

• Nicola (10/5): Lovely apartment in a quiet surburban area - Stayed here for 2 nights. The apartment was spotlessly clean and really lovely. In a quiet suburban area with all the facilities you would need to be able to cater for yourself. Beautifully decorated bedroom with access to a small private garden area. There is parking on site too. The owners are lovely - really friendly. Would definitely recommend this place.
