Guest Reviews
- mr andrew s (6/5): - The bedroom was okay but very noisy but it did the job just.
- MR D K BROWN (6/5): Scruffy, stuffy noisy room - Really average bordering on the scruffy room. The bathroom was scruffy, the nearest toilet ran out of paper. My room was road side, it was stuffy and noisy from passing traffic, the fan made a grinding noise. I’ve had better for less elsewhere! Won’t go back can’t recommend
- Brian (8/5): The White Lion June 25 - Quiet pub just off town centre. Room is basic with shared toilet.
- Timur (10/5): - Nice and quiet place.
- Anita (10/5): - Lovely friendly people, value for money.
- Liam (10/5): - Very good owners and very good rooms
- Sharon (8/5): - .
- Caroline (4/5): - It is tired, desperately in need of decorating and updating. Very basic. There appeared to be hairs in one of the beds. Extremely hot despite fans being provided, can’t imagine what it would be like in the height of summer. Appreciated there being coffee and tea making facilities, although kettle looked pretty grotty. Not somewhere we’d choose to stay again.
- Ruby (10/5): - Loved it, see you soon!
- Neil (6/5): - Room was ok but no extractor fan for shower and taps full of limescale. No rooms for disabled people so had to climb up set of stairs. As pub was only open for certain amount of times we had to go down the fire escape to get in/out of the building and you can imagine what it would be like for a disabled person having to carry luggage up and down wet stairs.
Had party on and music blaring out gone midnight so could hear it all night long and every word!
- Thomas (4/5): - Any port in a storm, ok for a quick overnight stay. Rooms very basic. Exit and entry via metal staircase, wife felt they were unsafe. Staff friendly enough. Didn’t do any food.
- Chris (10/5): - Friendly and helpful 😀
- Matthew (10/5): - Sean is a great landlord. I’d love to stay again next time I’m in Grantham.
- Colin (6/5): - Found it quite suitable for a night or two, but not a long stay, convenient for a quick stop over & near town!
- Matthew (8/5): - Good
- Angela (8/5): good value for money - fantastic for the price i paid. fantastic friendly service
- John (10/5): John - Basic but clean. Friendly staff. Good overall experience.
- Mark (10/5): - I have stayed here before and knew what I was getting a clean well presented well decorated room at a fair price.
- David John (8/5): - Good value for money
- Graham (4/5): Never again. - Arrived at 2.30 pm. Pub not opened until 4.00 pm.
Nasty stain on landing carpet.
Bed not nice to sleep on, felt a spring in my back.
We left at 5.30, unable to sleep on the beds.
Not a good stay. Never again.
- Colin (8/5): - The pub is quite basic but clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. The main downside, especially as we were in one of the front bedrooms, was the traffic noise.
- Jason (10/5): - Staff were brilliant very helpful room was good but I'm a contractor only stayed the one night but will stay again
- Liam (10/5): - Staff incredibly friendly. Clean. Would definitely return if in the area
- David (8/5): - Very friendly staff and good value. Perfect for a overnight for work.
- Alan (10/5): - Very friendly and comfortable stay
- John (4/5): - Very basic room with shared bathroom. Noisy as room was right above the busy pub and overlooking a main road with lots of heavy goods vehicles passing by. Didn't get much sleep.
- EDWIN (10/5): - Good price compared to others in the area
- Kashif (10/5): Whitelion stay over hotel - We arrived 930pm. Check in was done by bar staff very friendly took us a fan up as it was so hot. Showed us the ways in and out. Room was very neat and clean. Decorated fine. Toilet near by. Would definitely stay here again. Rooms were on top of a pub but we heard very little noise. Apart from outside traffic. Free on road parking right outside. Around 10 spaces.
- Verified traveler (6/5): A night away - Was good value
- Elaine (6/5): Basic room no frills - Very basic room, toilets and bathroom at each end of the corridor, parking was on the road of a busy street. It was very noisy as it's a pub but the floors are obviously very thin as i could hear not only the music which was on until midnight but conversations too. Also at 6am there were loud conversations. The room also shook every time a door shut. The beds were fairly comfortable and the room was clean and nicely decorated. I probably wouldn't stay again as i couldn't tolerate the noise. The lady that checked us in was nice.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Clean friendly basic accommodation. - It was a good value room. We required somewhere to rest our heads and it delivered. Don't expect fancy frills and beware that the rooms are above a pub if you can't put up with a bit of noise. However, if you are the type of person that goes to sleep after the pubs close then it is fine.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not recomended for business use - No hot water, when reported it as not even looked at by staff. blunt non apologetic email received after the stay. We will not be returning
- John (8/5): A1 Close by. Very accommodating little pub - Very hospitable. Basic but very clean . Primarily serving contractors. Staff extremely helpful. Good location from a1.
- Paul (8/5): Short stay. - Nice stay. Friendly staff. Very helpful. It was during the hot weather. A fan was provided. I left my iPhone charger and the Landlord phoned me about it and even delivered it to my mates. Couldn’t ask any more than that.
I’ll definitely re-visit.
- Simon (6/5): We survived the White Lion 😁 - We survived!! Cheap overnight accommodation.
We all got drunk so it didn't really matter too much. Landlord and the staff at the pub very welcoming and friendly.
- Marek (6/5): traditional rooms over pub - Common, cheap rooms over pub - beds ok, cleanliness ok.
But it is over pub - forgot about sleep before 11pm. Wifi doesn't work, my mob and laptop as well conected but got no internet access.
Anyway I was happy with bed and with cleanliness. Hotel not good not bad and first of all good price.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Rubbish everything rubbish everything all was rubbish
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This was the first time I've stayed somewhere that does do a breakfast. So it was a bit different having to find one in the morning, but there were plenty of places close by.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Bed and breakfast was listed on the web site, but when asked about breakfast time was told it was not included, very disappointing.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Dirty, falling to bits didn't stay. Walked out and went some else
- George (10/5): Weekend trip - Very friendly staff, they were extremely helpful and gave us everything we needed. Would highly recommend
- David (6/5): - It’s ok, I guess value, but the rooms could be better.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A typical English pub. Super friendly staff, we knew what we were booking.. no complaints 👏👍 great price 👌
- Robert (8/5): Great stopover location on the A1 - Great location for a stopover driving down the A1 from Edinburgh to London. Traditional pub with rooms upstairs. Huge bathroom that could be a bedroom itself! Carpeted though, which is weird for a bathroom. Cheap and basic, all you need for one night.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It is fine for a simple overnight stay. Cheap and cheerful but clean and presentable. No complaints.
The room does overlook a fairly main road so there was traffic noise
- Shuang (10/5): - Staff are so nice (:
- Bob (6/5): In,out and gone. - I arrived very late due to an incident on-route, went out for a quick meal, returned and retired as I needed to be at a nearby location by 06-30 so never saw or experienced the hotel as such. The shared bathroom was OK but it may have been used by just two guests. I did not enquire as to how many the bathroom serviced.no food on site
- Verified traveler (8/5): Basic but comfortable - Very basic facilities but when all you need is a comfy bed then even the kettle, TV and free wi-fi were a bonus.
Two points to note: The only parking I could find was on street and was lucky to find a space near by. Second, I was asked to pay by cash which threw me as I wasn't carrying enough and had to use the (free) cash machine in the neighbouring convenience store.
- Martin (8/5): - All I needed was a comfortable bed for the night and the White lion does provide this need. It is not a brand new hotel with mod cons, but this I did not expect. It did provide musical entertainment which at night which l liked. It's a pub, so drinks are available too downstairs. I went to Barkston Heath to visit the British model flying championships and found the White Lion conveniently close to this location. I may use them again in subsequent years.
- Stephen (4/5): Very, very, Basic - The room was basic, I will never stay anywhere with a shared bathroom again, the noise was horrendous from the Pub downstairs, it was 2:00am and my friend had to go and tell them to turn down the juke box, if you want basic, this is the place! I will not be returning,
- kevin (8/5): Budget hotel Grantham - Budget room with shared bathroom but clean and comfortable
- Russell (10/5): Well priced - Very reasonably priced hotel.
- Brett (6/5): Basic - Was basic I didn't expect anything more to be honest
- june (2/5): Not for the faint hearted - Definitely a workman stop over very shabby and in a desperate need of a overhaul
