Guest Reviews
- Cynthia (10/5): - They had done some remodeling and it was great.
- Chris (4/5): Never again - Had 4 rooms reserved but they said the double booked so one of our group had to stay across the street at the other hotel. That place is horrible. My room at the main hotel had a door to the bathroom that didn’t close. There was a rack to hang clothes but no hangers.
- Jennifer (10/5): Wonderful stay. - Comfortable rooms spacious quiet and convenient it was right next to a food eatery lovely time.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice comfortable room. Friendly staff.
- patricia (6/5): - its an okay room ,we had a leaky facet in bathroom they did replace it but the air conditioner not working good an i would of liked brosures for the pool an breakfast locations
- Commedormotel (6/5): - Nice place for the money spent, you could here the people next door, there was like warm water. Leaking bathroom faucet. Noisy ac. I would stay there again if I was to get a different room
- Nickolas (8/5): Lake Access Getaway - Good enough for what we wanted - lake access on a hot weekend! A place to sleep and shower. No extras.
- Cynthia (8/5): - We have stayed here many times but did not have this room. It was nice and roomy with a king size bed.
- Lesley (8/5): - I enjoyed the facilities for the pool and gym. The hotel room was clean and accommodating, but required a bit of repair. But for $60 a night it was all that i had expected it to be. The Bar that was attached to the motel was excellent. It had good prices and great food.
- Jerry (10/5): - The beds were comfortable, the temperature of the room was steady and warm and the wifi was fairly strong. Having a bar/eatery right down the sidewalk was great. The pool was a bit chilly, but nothing that you couldn't adapt to and the hot tub felt great.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good for price rooms could be a little cleaner
- Verified traveler (4/5): - There was old pop corn on the floor from a previous guest and spider web/nest in the bathroom. They also charged me for the room twice, and didn’t notify me about the mistake until I came in asking about it.
- Heaven (4/5): Not very clean - The price was good, but it wasn't very clean. Bathroom floors had cigarette stains on them. Bathroom was filthy and tub had a shower ring around it. Carpet was all stained. We didn't get clean towels or garbage taken out daily. We had to walk a block for the pool. There was no coffee pot in the room. I wish we would have known that before we left. We could have brought one. Our room had an outside entrance so that was nice to be able to step outside of our door to smoke or have the car nearby.
- Linda (4/5): - This Motel needs some attention. The drapes had holes in the "black out" material, the carpet was not very clean, the floor in the bathroom needs replacing. The room did not smell good. In general, the owner needs to put some money into his Motel. Even though the rental price in on the low end, there is no excuse for holes in the curtains, ragged linoleum in the bathroom and smelly carpet. Quite frankly, I have stayed in Motels for $45 a night in Upper Michigan that were clean, smelled good and did not have poorly kept floors and curtains. I think you owe me a refund for at least part of the 3 night stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice place would stay there again can't beat the price
- Kendra (8/5): - You do get what you pay for. I expected the motel to be less than desirable for $50. The bed was comfy, the room was clean and there were plenty of towels and a big tv. However, the tragic noise was awful. I didn’t realize that the reason the noise was so bad was because of a large hole at the bottom of my door where rubber should have been. For $50, it worked for one night, but the traffic noise will keep you up if you’re a light sleeper.
- Dennis (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE. - Carpet was torn and worn out. Mattress should have been replaced years ago, After first night there was Zero maid service in room, trash was left, beds not made , only clean towels left on counter. Front counter rep was very rude when told about lack of service. Premium price for a third world hotel. NO wifi service that was advertised.
- Shelby (2/5): Don’t stay here - you check in at a different location than where your room actually is which is very inconvenient if you have kids who wants to use the pool or gym. The pool and gym are at the check in location. When I checked into my room, the entire room smelt so bad of smoke that it took my breathe away and I got instantly sick. They showed me a couple other rooms that were exactly the same way. The staff was nice and ended up giving me a full refund for both nights I had originally booked for.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Beds were terrible,t comfortable at all, no coffee pot in room, bathroom faucet didn't work well in sink, no wifi connection, had to go to bar to get service.
- Verified traveler (8/5): OK for the night - Just what we needed for one night to get ahead of the snowstorm. (Room was right next to the bar so we enjoyed ourselves for the night with live music.)
- Melissa (10/5): Lovely - I loved it. I was just what I needed. A space to do homework, food within walking distance, and easy one the wallet. Will be back for sure.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Convenient for our reason for staying. - Staff very friendly. Very reasonable price. Comfortable.
- Joyce (8/5): - Good stay for the value
- Rhonda (8/5): Nice getaway - It is a nice location. People are friendly. The only down side I see is that you have to sign that you have to pay a a huge amount if you lose a room key, so it kind of spoils your trip because that is all you think about
- Rick (4/5): Poor communication - Reserved 2 rooms for 1 night only had 1 room reserved. 2new girls working, couldn't get a hold of any managers. They kept saying it was Expedia fault, said did with hotels.com, didn't have right reservation number. They did fix it but our group was split into 2 different hotels.
- Emma (8/5): - It was about what I expected for a 40 dollar/night motel room, but got a little sketched out when someone tried unlocking the room without knocking prior.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I stayed at the Pelican Lakes Motel across the street from the Commander. It was a tiny little room that met my needs perfectly. I was bow hunting in the area and it gave me a nice place to sleep. I brought some food, but there was no refrigerator or microwave in the room, so I won't worry about that next time.
- RG (4/5): Very Disappointing - the room smelled like cigarettes, there was a huge crack under the door letting in bugs, no fridge, no microwave, no ice machine, no internet. the list goes on. I was told by the staff if I went outside, or into the bar, I would be able to get internet. You can hear the bar all night, it is attached, so don't expect any good rest until after close. But I guess that is what you should expect for $55 a night.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Our employees ended up not staying at the motel. One female employee didn't feel safe there, as she was placed right next to the door into the bar, and felt concerned with local patrons being just one thin door away from her. Our male employee upon checking in instantly called the neighboring resort, where the tradeshow event was happening, and secured a two-bed cabin instead of remaining at The Commander. While the price was what drew us to book this reservation, this is clearly an instance of you get what you pay for.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great budget option! - I was attending a wedding at a nearby resort and booked a less pricey room here. Very basic; not fancy but certainly clean, comfortable and staff was very nice. The restaurant/bar that is attached seems to draw a lively crowd, but I didn't hear any noise in the hall or from the parking lot, so that was a plus.
- Denise (4/5): Outdated no tell motel. - Stained furniture, dirty walls, flimsy old towels and the beds were so uncomfortable. My back was killing me. The only good thing was we could use the pool at another hotel but you had to cross a busy highway to get there. The motel was under a bar so you had to deal with drunken bar patrons outside your window. It was a $20 a night motel at a $100 a night price.
- Karla (6/5): July 4th Vacation - The room had a comfortable bed and was clean when we arrived. We were not satisfied with cleaning after first day. Bed was never made up properly and garbage not emptied during our 4 night stay. Bathroom was not cleaned just towels replaced. The room was not vacuumed during our stay.
Those little things can make a big difference with a customer. I knew it wasn't going to be a five star hotel but was expecting cleanliness.
We just needed a place to sleep and shower. Our friends have a cabin in the area.
- Mare (8/5): - Room was musty smelling and needs new carpet, mattresses--no coffeemaker--but it was inexpensive for the area so u get what u pay for--the pool and available things down the road wer nice
- Freaked Out (2/5): Horrified! - Room was disgusting. Carpet stained & filthy, beds saggy, stained mattresses, squished bugs & cobwebs on walls & ceiling, strong smell of smoke, musty smell from AC unit, used towel in bathroom, tub faucet hanging from wall....wouldn't let my dog sleep here! It took us 2 min to vacate & get a refund.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cleanliness is the strong point. - Very clean. Needs some updating. Felt the check-in people were going through the formalities but maybe not very sharp on directions, etc.. Having check-in located in a very unidentified building across the street and a quarter block away was an ultra no-no. Not a good first impression where you come in to a bar to ask where the motel check-in is located.
Had to wait for check-in at 5 o'clock! Bad!
- Michael (10/5): Exactly what I was looking for. - This was the perfect place for what I needed. I was looking for a clean and comfortable place to sleep and that is exactly what I received. The only surprise was the service. Everyone I dealt with was extremely friendly and made my stay that much more enjoyable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very nice stay - Good service rooms are big. The staff was great!
the locals were very friendly
- Natalie (8/5): Not bad - We needed a room for a night for cheap and it provided that. Bathroom was very clean. Beds were clean but really old, could use new mattresses.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Chair was too low to work on desk; not adjustable. Shampoo and lotion containers were empty. No wifi. Curtains did not meet so not only lack of privacy but also snowmobile noise more apparent. Parking area not well cleared. Very icy and bumpy. Heater worked well and plenty of towels
- Greg (8/5): - justa room
- Kerry (8/5): - perfect for what we needed....there wasn't a minifridge, micro, or coffee maker....it did have clean room, comfortable beds, and warm shower. Great stay and price.
- Erin (4/5): Wow!! - There are no signs for the hotel. The commander is located on the opposite side of JJ's pub. You check in at a completely different location. That place is located across the street which we did not find out until we went into the bar and asked where the hotel was. They said we were at the hotel but needed to check in at a timeshare rental office!!!! We were only staying a night and wouldn't if we didn't have a wedding to attend. Beds were like cots. Horrible experience. They need a major upgrade and if it werent for expedia they wouldn't have ANY business. They also need to add photos of the outside, oh yeah they do that and NO ONE would stay there.
- Richard (8/5): - Could update hotel a bit.
- John (8/5): Breezy Point Resort - When we checked in we learned it was a smoking room, both my wife and I have COPD and cannot stay in a smoking environment. The clerk worked and worked to find us another room because the resort was filled. She finally found a non smoking room in another unit of the resort. She was friendly, responsive and pleasant throughout the ordeal. The room she found was dated, but very clean. Beds could use some updating, but the room was quiet and we both enjoyed the cleanliness, especially the bathroom.
- Debbie (2/5): Won't stay again!! - The room was not vacuumed, the bathroom floor was worn and in need of renewal. The amenities were scarse and the a/c unit didn't work. We were able to get the room vacuumed and they agreed to comp us for one night. We would not stay there again!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Hotel stay - Decent hotel for someone who needs a place to sleep. Entertainment and food in connecting bar was good. Staff friendly.
- Megan (10/5): - I was in town to watch my son play hockey for the local junior team and this hotel is so convenient and affordable. The staff at the Pelican Center are great and will definitely be staying here again.
- Leah (10/5): Motel attached to bar - Not a bad experience. Showers barely run. They need to fix that.
- JoAnn (8/5): - The only surprise was having to go about a block off property to check-in and out. Not a biggie tho if you know in advance. Was a good stay!
- ib (2/5): Awful - Terrible dirty avoid at all cost
It's a place next to a bar for drunk people to crash
