Guest Reviews
- Brian (8/5): - Quaint location and room with ocean view. Restaurant was awesome.
Room was warm but fans were available.
- Holger (8/5): - Very clean room with okay bed, great shower and wifi. Only 3 stars because the room was sweltering hot. They really need to install air conditioning. We've stayed here before with the same issue and will stay elsewhere next time. Also, the towel rack in the bathroom is missing and the vanity mirror is suitable only for very short people.
Having said that, the staff is very friendly and helpful, the Keurig works well and having a top rated restaurant downstairs is super.
- Donald (10/5): - Great staff and spotless room
- Tammy (8/5): - There is no AC, you can open the windows but expect to be woken by early morning traffic. Restaurant was really good. Location and view, spectacular. Full view of Bluenose while you are sweating out the night. Very limited breakfast options in town.
- Ashley (8/5): - Located right in the heart of Lunenberg.
No a/c was a bit of a let down, as it was pretty hot the day we were there. It is a good thing we weren’t there on a +30 day. It was only one night however, so it was manageable.
- Barbara (4/5): - Parking was a significant problem. Going to the restaurant for assistance was not convenient.
- Shobhit (8/5): - Good place at the heart of the town. Has good restaurant at the ground floor.
- Krystof (10/5): - Parking is a huge challenge. No parking for
The actual property. Street parking is available but need to plug a meter.
- Aaron (10/5): - This room was such a nice surprise. It had a partial kitchen, which I didn’t use (surrounding restaurants around are amazing, but is a great option to have) and the upstairs bedroom and bathroom were wonderful. The bed was so soft and comfortable plus the bathroom had a jacuzzi tub and shower. I used the jacuzzi tub twice, such a wonderful surprise.
I had a small window with a view of the bay, with a nice seating area as well.
Another highlight, no keys needed, there was a code for the front door and the room—wonderfully easy.
There are stairs required, so keep that in mind, but if stairs aren’t an issue, this property is in the heart of everything and a wonderful stay.
- Gary (10/5): - Property was clean at first site. Once you started to looked around there was dust on the coffee pot, dishes and glasses, also Around the floor boards.
So the cleaning lady should really do a detail cleaning once and awhile instead of a quick clean.
- Nikita K (10/5): - Nice, clean and comfortable place to stay in the middle of downtown Lunenburg.
- Andrea (10/5): - Parking is an issue. Prepare to pay at a meter with change and move your car after checking in. Stunning view and very clean. Food at the restaurant was superb as well.
- Fiona (10/5): - A wonderful space in a perfect location.everything felt like a luxury hotel!
- Scott (8/5): - To many stairs
- Carol (8/5): - The water was beautiful, no entertainment in evening all shop closed down at five so not much to do our room was clean but small no air conditioning , very hot, bed was good but pillow were terrible. But over all would come back for the view, maybe just not spend a night.
- David Leonard John (10/5): - The cutest room we have stayed at! Beautiful view of the ocean. Decorated lovely. We are sad now that we checked into a chain hotel and wish we were back above the salt shaker!
If you haven’t booked it yet, DO IT!!
- Miwa (8/5): - We checked in at the restaurant downstairs. We were in the same queue as people trying to get a table so it was a little inefficient but still quick. The room was upstairs in a secured building with a code to the front door and another code to the room (wonder how often if they get changed). The room had thoughtful amenities. Access to Lunenburg Waterfront was quick and amazing. Plenty of dining options in town, would have tried the seafood linguini downstairs but we had a hankering for poutines elsewhere. There's no parking attached to the property, but we were able to find street parking with permitted overnight stay- meter started at 10am so we put coins for 1hr before we checked out. Just one thing, we had our windows open to let air, and BBQ prep began early morning downstairs (we were sure we smelled brisket!) so maybe expect some noise with the windows open. Overall a good stay.
- Renee B (8/5): Know before you go - Had the amenities one needs. Check in involved a wait in a long line for the restaurant (high tourist season made the restaurant very busy - there is no separate check in service for hotel guests). Parking is street parking and metered during the day, so plan to drop your luggage and then plug meters for parking or park further away for free. No air conditioning - on a very hot day this was a bit rough during the day, however the nights are cool in Lunenberg so we ended up being comfortable later in the night.
- Tracy (6/5): - I wanted to give a great review for the wonderful location, charm of this building, friendliness of staff and the excellent dining and service, but the heat in room (1) in the inn was significant and truly impacted my sleep and well being during my visit. I’m not sure if it is due to being located on top of a restaurant but the room was significantly hotter than it was outside and it remained uncomfortable despite the use of both a ceiling and floor fan. It is really unfortunate because it really takes away from what could otherwise be a perfect stay.
- Deborah (10/5): - Our stay at Salt Shaker Deli & Inn was very nice, and we would recommend it. Check-in at the restaurant was easy. The apartment was spacious and had a lovely view of the water, a large jacuzzi tub, and a small but workable kitchen. The Inn is conveniently located near the main dock, and we easily found parking. The room was very clean. One thing to be aware of is that there is a steep flight of stairs to get to the rooms. We enjoyed a nice dinner at the adjacent restaurant, which is happy to reserve a table for guests staying at the Inn.
- Doreen (10/5): - Beautiful inn, great food and atmosphere in the bistro.
- Megan (4/5): Not for Us - The street was busy and parking difficult to find and there was no place to park to drop off luggage. When we entered the deli it was packed and very loud so we immediately realized this was not the place for us. Since the rooms were above the restaurant we figured it would be quite loud for some time so we left. To be fair we're in our 70's and live on a quiet farm, so if you're young you may enjoy it.
- Natalie (6/5): - It was located right in the heart of the small town on top of the restaurant. There was no air conditioning, so it got really stuffy but there were fans set up. Quite expensive for what you are getting! There is no on site parking so you must either park at the harbour or try to find street parking (very busy on weekends!) staff was nice, very strict on 3pm check in. Check in was at restaurant host stand.
- Chris (8/5): - Great 2 floor apartment with lovely features and stunning views
- Mark (10/5): - Loved everything. It's original quirkyness and excellent restaurant downstairs. So good we ate there both nights.
- Mark (8/5): - Be prepared for alotttttt of stairs also no air conditioning street parking .
- Damien (10/5): - Really cute place with great view of the water and in the middle of town. Can't wait to stay, again!
- Rena (8/5): - Table tops were tacky…broke a lamp globe trying to move sticky table lamp…it tipped over…not pleasant…
Cleaning person was extremely kind about it…
- Leonard (8/5): - Everything was amazing! Only complaint was when we turned on the jets in the tub, all kinds of black and brown junk came out..
- Tina (8/5): Great stay but… - Only thing was the hot tub jets didn’t work
- Patricia (10/5): - We loved our spacious room! And the view from our upstairs window was amazing!
- Lynda (8/5): - The view was lovely. Perfectly situated.
Lovely position for taking in atmosphere of Lunenburg.
- John (10/5): - Great historic views of the harbor
- Gerry (10/5): - Clean with a nice central location. Access requires a flight of stairs with your luggage. Parking is street parking which is busy during the day.
- Cliff (6/5): - The view was great. The room was very hot and made sleeping very difficult
- John (8/5): - A super location in a picturesque town with lots of history.
- Megan (10/5): - Perfect location and the restaurant below is our favourite of our trip out East. Room had a great view. Would highly recommend
- Bruce (8/5): Would recommend this stay! - Our room had a nice view of the harbour! However, due to the age of the building, the floor was slanted and with where the bed was located, we felt like we were sleeping on an incline plane. 😂
Check-in/check-out was easy. We ate both nights at the deli and the first night was better than the second.
- Scott (6/5): - My opinion, the Inn portion of this business may come second to the restaurant. The room was not clean and I’d assume it’s due to lack of time and focus on the Inn or maybe they just have cleaners that do a poor job. Regardless, the room has no A/C but was fine for our visit this time of year and this was disclosed but you need to read carefully. The bed was awesome. Location was perfect, you are right downtown and have good view of the harbor. The check in process was easy but seemed like a distraction to restaurant staff. Food at their restaurant was great. On a side note, the keg delivery happening at 7:30am must have woke the entire Inn and neighbouring Inns. It’s those type things that get overlooked when priorities are imbalanced.
We stayed at three Inns on our trip at similar price points and this stay was overvalued for what we received. I wouldn’t discourage anyone to stay here, just have clear expectations when you do. It has potential to be very good with some focus.
- thomas (10/5): - Wonderful stay overlooking the harbour, staff were great, restaurant was great, highly recommend.
- Carrie (10/5): - Charming, clean and comfortable!
- Chantal (10/5): - This was such a nice little stay. Conveniently located. Lots to see. Big space.
- Michelle (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay very much
- Warren (8/5): - Loved staying at the Salt shaker. It is located close to the harbour and to restaurants and amenities. It is a historical property and there are stairs to the rooms, but they are comfortable. The bedroom was tastefully decorates and the bed was lovely and comfortable
- Stacy (8/5): - Great stores to walk to
- John (6/5): - Cute little place with convenient location but rather congested and noisy. Not a fan of the noisy window air conditioner. The apartment was convenient for us. The first floor did not have any AC so had to use a room fan in the middle of the room which made it a little tough for three people. For sleeping the first floor was fine with the fan and the window open. Once the restaurants closed the noise level was not disruptive. The view from the upstairs bedroom was right into the neighboring house -20 feet away - so curtains had to remain closed throughout our stay.
- John (10/5): - This is a great inn located on the waterfront and easy walking distance to everything. We had a view and an ocean breeze which cooled our room. We ate at the downstairs restaurant, which offers delicious meals. We highly recommend the lobster roll and seafood chowder. Great place to stay in Lunenberg.
- Jessica (10/5): - This spot was so special! It was right in the busy stretch of restaurants, lounges and shopping so everything is within walking distance. Our room windows overlooked the wharf where the bluenose is docked. In the morning we got to see it pull away from our room. It sits above the cutest deli that has delicious food.
- Judith (4/5): - My room was above a bar- very noisy with music and the crowd. Online it said they close at 9:00 but the noise continued to 10:00. I could also hear the ceiling fan from the bar, all night. Be aware there are steep steps to the rooms, and parking is wherever you can find it on the street. I was two blocks away. There is no breakfast served at this B&B. The bed, though pretty, was very high and difficult to get into. Could have used a little step. I did appreciate the nice robe!
- Philip (10/5): - Lovely rooms.
- Sarah (10/5): - Great experience!
- Wayne (8/5): - Nice one night stay in a rustic comfy hotel.
- Suzanne (8/5): - Great location with a very quaint atmosphere. Only 5 rooms in the Inn, above the restaurant which closed at 9pm to accommodate guests in the rooms above. Food in the restaurant is excellent and the staff are friendly and welcoming.
The room should hav air conditioning installed. We were there in May before it was too warm outside and still found the room too warm, even with a ceiling fan. Bathroom could use an exhaust fan.
- Dante (10/5): - Clean, cool furniture, beachy and breathable. best Inn ive stayed at so far! amazing view. couldnt ask for more!
- Tali (8/5): - We stayed two nights at the Salt Shaker, and loved our room. It was clean and modern while fitting the seaside vibe of historic Lunenburg. Our visit was in March, and really, the Salt Shaker is the only game in town….but gathering there for coffee, lunch, dinner or drinks is an absolute pleasure for visitors and locals, alike.
We recommend the Salt Shaker Deli and Inn as a whole. The staff are kind, helpful and fun….and your stay will be comfortable, with great food, and great views. Thank you!
- Mark (6/5): - The property location is wonderful...rught in the heart of the town...can walk anywhere. The view was great!
The only parking is on the street...we were kucky enough to have a soace become available. Otherwise you could have a fair walk. The checkin experience is different...you checkin at restaurant ...which was very busy and dragging in our suitcases only to learn that we had to go back outside to access the room. The key didnt work so we had to go back in while our things stayed on the sidewalk...it was cold and very frustrating. The staff person was very apologetic for the confusion. Once inside, there is a very long set of stairs which were quite narrow and steep. If you have issies carrying luggage this is not a place you want to stay. The walls are paper thin...we listened to voices and snoring throughout the night which seemed to becoming from below. We only stayed one night and really only slept there as we had an evening event and checked out before 9am the following day.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place to stay! - Room was very cozy, and had a beautiful view. The bed was extremely comfortable and I’d love to know where they got the pillows lol. Overall happy with my stay, great location and the food offer was outstanding, staff was also very friendly.
- Leanne (10/5): - Super cute place, loved the restaurant as well!! Staff were very helpful:)
- Hanne (6/5): - The room was very small and very warm. It is located above a restaurant which played loud music on the deck until late. Once the restaurant closed, we continued to hear noise from kitchen clean up.
- Maureen (2/5): Living in an oven with no WIFI - Probably the worst stay I have ever booked. We arrived in a room that had no air conditioning and it was 30 degrees. There was a small fan, and the manager for the place gave us another one ... however it was stifling.
We may have been able to live with that, but then we also learnt that there was no WIFI working ....
Imagine, you are stuck in a oven and you have nothing to do.
Added to that, I dropped some water on the floor, I went to clean it up, and the towel was black afterwards, not just dirty, but black.
It was late, and the inn is above the owners restaurant so we went there for dinner.
They knew how terrible the conditions were and they didn't even offer us a complimentary drink or anything of the kind.
Stay away in Droves
- Kerri (8/5): Good location - Nice location a little pricy as it needs a little work, jetted tub didn’t work, paint peeling and carpet worn. But overall comfortable.
- Chantelle (10/5): - Beautiful room great views . We loved our stay.
- Giuliana (4/5): - If you are looking for a great location, this is it. Right downtown lunenberg and fabulous spot for roaming the tow.
For the overall room, it’s a lot smaller than I pictured online and needs some updating. Linens were nice but things were in need of replacing like old rugs and towels.
- Sally (8/5): - We had a lovely stay at the Salt Shaker. The room was clean, unique, comfortable and well-appointed. The giant bed was SO comfy and the view was amazing. If you are a person who wants to nap during the day, sleep in past 11 or go to bed before 10 this might not be a good room for you, because the restaurant patio is directly below the window. Also there is no A/C, which was surprising but thankfully not an issue, as we fairly mild summer weather with a nice breeze.
- Stephanie (10/5): - Stayed 1 night in a 1 BDR suite. Furnishings were lovely and everything was spotless. Good quality linens and comfortable bed. Hide-a-bed also very comfortable. Location was, of course, fantastic. Steep stairs into the room and in the room but totally fine for us. Parking is a bit of a challenge but that’s normal for small historic towns such as Lunenburg. Highly recommend.
- Karoline (10/5): - Good
- Tracey (10/5): - Great stay, would definitely return.
- Diana (10/5): - Really nice room and delicious restaurant downstairs
- Terry (10/5): - Wonderful and pleasant stay!
Lunenburg such a great place to visit!
- Tyler (6/5): - No contact with staff at all, one key didnt work, dirty dishes upon arival, dirty floors, some fewtures in the room were not working.
- Kevin (10/5): - A really great location in the heart of town. A good restaurant and bar in the venue, with hotel rooms accessed from an area next door. Everything was really excellent. I also agree with others who have made statements about the misleading 'parking available' listing, but free street parking is available a short walk away.
- wilson (10/5): - Right in town.
- Ann (8/5): - View on the Lunenburg harbour.
Closeness to shops.
Good food.
- Eamonn (10/5): - Lunnenburg is a wonderful place, rightly recognized by UNESCO. Our 2 level apartment above the Inn was perfect for our stay, right in the middle of all things you want to walk to or see. Dave and the staff was so helpful - and their Scallop Linguini was amazing!
- Nancy (10/5): - The property was lovely. We had help taking our luggage up the stairs. Thank goodness. Room was booked for three ladies and purposely paid for suite that advertised 1 king bed and 1 double bed. There was a king bed and it was great. However there was no double bed to be found. Turns out the double bed was a sofa that converted to a bed. This should be clearly stated as such. For 310.00 for one night we expected what we had booked. Please change your add to state 1 king bed and one double sofa bed. All in all we loved the town and had a great visit.
- Beverly (10/5): - Our room had an amazing view of the harbour and the famous Bluenose11. The restaurant right downstairs served delicious food. One of the best meals of our trip.
- JAN (10/5): - Nice cosy room... Great location... Close to everything. Restaurant below closes at 9PM so restaurant noise until around 11PM..
- Nancy (8/5): Winter visit - Interesting spot. No issues other than there was a big snow storm and when we asked where to park, we only received a shoulder shrug. We did not want our car towed or plowed in so we asked at another restaurant and they told us where free winter parking was located.
- Robert (8/5): - the stairs were daunting with a suitcase. but the room was very nice, two story and cosy. As advertised. nice to have a restaurant in the building with a good bkfst spot just up the street
- Kathy (6/5): - TV didn't work, staff didn't know how to fix it - should have had instructions for how TV worked, and thermostat once had instructions but the label was worn off and couldn't be read any longer. surfaces were sticky, and bathroom fan hadn't been cleaned in a long time, and wasn't working properly, full of bugs. new grouting in the bathroom would make it look a lot cleaner in shower area. visibly dirty in bathroom around baseboards. pillow covers on extra pillows very old and yellowed/stained.
- ED (10/5): Recommend - Great
- Randy (10/5): - Beautiful old home with awesome view of the bay. Super friendly staff and cozy restaurant with great food right below our room. We'll definitely come back!
- Stephanie (8/5): - My room was comfortable with a view of the water. I didn’t consider when I booked that I would be staying above an active restaurant. Thankfully it closes at 9 pm so it didn’t affect my sleep. The room had a mini fridge and Keurig, but a microwave would have been helpful. There is no elevator, but there is a flight of stairs at the front entry. I didn’t have an issue carrying up my luggage, but anyone with mobility issues should be aware of it. There isn’t free parking near the inn, but I was fortunate to arrive after the parking meters are monitored and left each morning before they began being used again. The location is amazing, though. Lunenburg is a beautiful town.
- Michael (10/5): - The accommodations were very comfortable and good central location for walking around Lunenburg. The restaurant was quiet good.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a lovely stay. It was well equipped and comfortable. The location couldn’t be better. Would definitely go back.
- Jill (10/5): - Na
- Shana (10/5): - Great location. Nice to have a kitchenette and large upstairs bedroom with en suite including a soaker tub!
- Mark (10/5): - Fantastic location. Excellent restaurant.
- Susan (10/5): - Very nicely renovated. Very comfortable. Cooked breakfast in our room and ate in the restaurant below. The restaurant is excellent and we were allowed to reserve a table so did not stand in line. The accommodations do have 34 steps until you reach the bedroom. I have a cane and could manage. Highly recommend.
- robert (6/5): - Wi fi did not work and bed is very high and difficult to get in for older persons. Property very clean.
- Anita (10/5): - It was amazing! A great location and super staff!
- Chris (10/5): - Water view. Very clean. Great location
- Kim (10/5): - Cute place. Great location and comfy bed.
- Nicole (10/5): - Great location. Super neat property with check in at the restaurant below and side door for room entry. Friendly staff. Very cute.
- Shannon (8/5): - Even though the two flights of stairs were a bit much for my mom, we all enjoyed our stay.
- connor (10/5): - Wonderful stay
- Laura (6/5): - The room was beautiful and very unique. Location was great. Food from restaurant ok - no kids menu. Parking was a nightmare - very busy street and took us an hour of stalking a site to be able to park and still had to lug our luggage up half a block and make sure to feed the meter. The other issue was the stairs. Very steep and narrow and hard to get large pieces of luggage up.
- Lisa (10/5): Just wow !! - Amazing rooms and location. So peaceful and relaxing. Will definitely go again. The restaurant is awesome, we had supper there 2 nights in a row.
- Andrew (10/5): - Great place to stay in Lunenburg with the family.
- Jeff (10/5): - The Salt Shaker Inn is such a quaint, clean and cozy hotel. The location couldn’t be any better. Right in the middle of town and a view of the harbour.
We will stay here again and again. The staff were all friendly, accommodating and lovely.
