Guest Reviews
- Heidi (2/5): Fire hazzard - Lock box to enter was stiff to open. Log burner had blocked chimney filled the property with smoke. Tried to contact the owner, only had email no phone number. Got no reply. This property is a fire hazard the chimney is clearly blocked. Had to leave and go home. Was not safe to sleep in.
- Edward (10/5): Great little place to spend the weekend - Fantastic place to stay with definitely come again thank you very much
- Ian (8/5): - Good accommodation, friendly staff and good food at pub.
Good size and good for couple with a dog. Only downside was bathroom could do with updating
- Jayne (8/5): - Lovely village and close to park and ride. Host close to hand if you needed anything.
Cosy and warm
Only thing the shower not great.
- Melissa (8/5): - Lovely little property located in a quaint village:) Staff members were super friendly on arrival and the whole check in/out process was smooth. The property has a lot of charm but needs a little tlc. The bathroom is basic and shower not great but the rest of the facilities in the room were good. The bed was a little on the hard side and very squeaky. Overall a good stay and for what we paid we were happy :) thank you x
- Andrew (10/5): - We had a lovely stay. The property was far beyond our expectations! Very spacious, really cosy and welcoming and very well equipped indeed.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay - Accommodation is separate building to the pub but on same land but quiet during my stay on a quiet location. Nice, clean with even milk, butter, eggs and fresh bread which was a bonus. Lovely food over at the pub, generous servings and friendly staff too.
- Wendy (10/5): - Really cute little property, with everything you need, including a welcome of essentialls
- Natasha (10/5): - A lovely cottage - fantastic value for money.
- Jason (10/5): Weekend in york - Excellent location near the river. 5min drive from York designer outlet 10 min drive in to the centre of York
Was a little worried being next to a very busy pub. We got back about 2130 hrs and it had already closed So very peaceful.
Left us milk, bread, butter, eggs & tea coffee sugar, excellent stay throughly enjoyed will be a returning customer
- Anthony (10/5): Lovely cottage - Lovely cottage by the pub that serves their lovely homemade food. Certainly one to remember for a future visit to the area. Friendly staff too in the pub.
- Alec (8/5): - Lovely property and lovely staff at pub. Great food and drink and very friendly service. Amazing value stay. Unfortunately heavy rain the night we stayed led to some leaks in property and bubbling drains in early hours of morning which hopefully can be fixed soon. Bad luck for us but otherwise would have been great.
- Dani (10/5): Nice stay - Great little annex/cottage in a beautiful village
- Paul (10/5): - The staff made us feel really welcome and the pub was able to accommodate a request for a gluten free menu. We would stay again.
- Alexandra (8/5): - Charming and quaint cottage with plenty of room and a nice pub next door.
- Stacey (10/5): Fantastic - It was a lovely and friendly stay the staff went above and beyond for us was lovely and chatty too
- Martin (8/5): York weekend - Quaint, clean and comfortable cottage in the pub grounds. Swift check in. Good beer, pub grub and service. Very good location for short travel into York
- Verified traveler (8/5): Amazing unusual cottage - Amazing cottage with double bed on mezzanine floor accessible by staircase. Not suitable for persons with accessibility problems. Bed is near to wall with low headroom on one side. We had no problems. Kitchen and downstairs toilet/sink/shower room. Plenty of hot water. Milk and butter in fridge. Tea, coffee provided. All crockery, pans, tea towels, towels, dressing gowns etc clean. Kitchen cupboards a little dusty. We had to arrive late and leave early so no breakfast and didn't go into the pub. Would we stay again? Yes
- Chris (10/5): - Really friendly and welcoming, great food at the pub and decent price. Everything is lovley and only 10 minutes from.a great shopping outlet centre and the park and ride into York. Highly recommended
- Ian (10/5): - Perfect location for York and the surrounding area. Very well equipped kitchen with provisions provided. Friendly welcome at the Blacksmith's Arms on the night of arrival.
- Richard (10/5): - We had a pleasant stay - the property is honest and clean, the shower could be better but we enjoyed the property. The adjacent pub was really friendly, served good honest food and we were made to feel welcome. The property and the food are excellent value for money. The nearby designer shopping village as very easy to get to and it only cost £5.50 for 2 people to park and ride to nearby York city centre
- Leigh (10/5): Overall Good Stay - Amazing little cottage. We struggled to get the fire to light, the shower had low water pressure (not their fault) few of the bits were unfinished, was a little dirty under the sink. However.... left us with Milk, bread, eggs, tea bags, sugar, butter. Sofa and bed was comfortable. We will be staying there again hopefully on our next trip to york.
Pub closes quite early next door so dont 100% rely on getting there at 10pm and getting food, but Uber Eats works well there.
Overall a solid 9/10 from me.
- Shirley (10/5): - We loved the property. It was clean and comfortable and rustic. The owners provided bread, butter, eggs and milk, t-bags and coffee etc.
- James (8/5): - Really friendly welcome from the host
- Mark (10/5): - Cold when we arrived but soon warmed up. Nice size apartment, very nice to have milk, bread, eggs and butter in the kitchen for us to use. Easy walk to the bus stop for the bus to York, and we also had a nice meal in the Blacksmith arms. Thank you
- stewart (10/5): Walking to York base - Great little cottage to stay in
Close to York (we walked in and back) close to York selby rail line for walking and cycling
Next to pub who do great meals and portions
Clean rooms with all amenities needed
- Lorna (8/5): Perfect Retreat for Dog Owners - The cottage is quirky and my little dog loved it. The village is pretty and the hotel next door serves nice food. The cottage has everything you need but an investment in a new bed and sofa would be chef’s kiss.
- Brian (6/5): Good location- needed some tender loving care - Bed was very uncomfortable
Layer of dust under bed .
Only one bedside table
Two seater sofa was very worn
Shower room must have had new toilet cistern and wasn’t painted up to new.
Shower pressure bad
Kitchen smelt and just not up to date!
Whole cottage full of spiders webs.
Couldn’t use small table and chairs as they were not safe- not screwed together properly.
Small TV was damaged.
It was lovely to have bread , eggs , butter and small jug of milk so thank you for that.
- Elliott (10/5): - Nice little pub, close to the river, good food and helpful staff
- David (10/5): Short break. Lovely cosy cottage - Just spent a lovely few days in the Blacksmiths Cottage. We had a Lovely welcome from Fay the housekeeper who keeps the cottage spotless. Plenty hot water, comfy bed and all you need for a stay here. Sadly pub wasn't open for 2 of the days but we had the beer garden to ourselves 😊. Had a lovely meal on our last night cooked by Gary who was very welcoming and friendly. Thanks Gary. Tom, behind the bar was so nice and very pleasant. Great base for touring around this part of Yorkshire. Thanks guys..... Liz and Dave
- Pam (8/5): Blacksmiths Arms - We enjoyed our stay at the Blacksmiths Arms. Its cosy and in a lovely village location. We didn't use the pub itself. The cottage has pretty much everything you need for a break.Kitchen has all you need and the bread, milk, butter and eggs were a nice touch.A word to the wise, the WiFi doesn't reach the cottage.
Close to park and ride which I would thoroughly recommend. We would definitely stay again.
- Graham (10/5): - Nice character building witb pub next door, and good location .
- Barbara (10/5): Perfect stopover for solo lady & dog - Picked keys up from pub next door (where I had comfort food fish and chips), cottage good with nearby walks. Will book again next time I’m in the area.
- ANTHONY (8/5): - Good for a couple of nights of affordable accommodation with hospitable hosts.
- Jacqueline (8/5): - The property was basic but comfortable and very well supplied. The pub was opposite serving good pub grub. Value for money was excellent.
- Barbara (10/5): Lovely place to stay - We arrived early but fortunately the cottage was ready. The cottage has a old world charm. It has everything you need it it for a comfortable stay. Although bed is under the eves it is very comfortable. The staff in the pub are very friendly and yhe food is amazing, especially the pie. All the food is homemade and cooked to order. The cottage is few miles from park & ride at the designer outlet so easy to get into York.
- mark (8/5): 1night stay - Accommodation is okay, room nice and tidy, tea sugar Coffee ,bread, eggs butter supplied.
Only complaint is shower is dangerous red hot then freezing really needs looking at
- Wayne (10/5): 5 night stay relaxing - Excellent quiet location, pub did lovely meals, staff very friendly accommodation ideal for a couple.
- Mr Graeme (8/5): - Beautiful little cottage in a beautiful location. Really well equipped and lovely touch that tea coffee milk butter and eggs were left (if we had known we would have brought bread and utilised the eggs and butter)
- A (6/5): - Great location
Decor tired and shabby
Shower door has a problem which they were aware of some paint peeling
Bed Very comfy
Nice welcome pack tea coffee milk butter and eggs
- Andrew (10/5): Barn stay. - We picked the keys up from the bar. Lovely lady showed us the barn. Very helpful and even gave us a loaf of bread to go with the eggs and butter provided. We ate Sunday roast at the pub. Delicious and proper Yorkshire servings. Recommend the food. Thanks to the staff
There is a school behind the barn. But was closed when we were there so no noise.
- Lisa (10/5): Fantastic stay - Fantastic stay. The cottage is quaint and quirky with all the amenities you need. Myself and my partner had a lovely meal in the pub too. Highly recommend. 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- hayley (10/5): Loved our stay here! - Spotlessly clean pleasant cottage next to the car park of a welcoming pub with excellent food and friendly locals.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Loved the cottage, loved the welcome pack, loved the setting, yes it was a little dated needs some decorating, biggest problem was it leaked through the roof when it rained
- jim (10/5): Naburn stay - In a lovely location and only a few miles from York centre.
Loved the traditional charm of the cottage and leaving bead, eggs, butter and fresh milk for guests to use was a nice touch. The kitchen is well equipped and found the bed to be very comfortable.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great little property in a fab location. Anthony was also very friendly and the welcome pack was a very nice touch. They also placed balloons as it was my birthday, nice. The only slight issues are it needs a bit of a refurb including redecoration and the shower pressure was low. We would definitely come back.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Enjoyable stay - Cute little cottage. Parking directly outside. Lovely village on the River. Has everything you would require in the cottage, though could really do with some updating.
Nice idea with the welcome pack of bread, milk, eggs and butter. Tea coffee and sugar already there too.
Enjoyed our stay for 3 nights
- Geraint (6/5): A bit meh!!! - The location is perfect and the cottage could be amazing... but it isn’t. The shower doesn’t work properly. you have to fiddle with the front door lock to open it (45 seconds in the pouring rain is a long time). The whole place smells musty. The bed is uncomfortable and you can only get in and out from one side.
- Louise (10/5): - Lovely little place. Bread, milk, eggs and butter included.
Unfortunately we didn't get to go in the pub and although there seemed to be a bit of a party going on we couldn't hear it from the cottage.
Will stay again if we're in the area.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice little property, comfortable. Good Location Good Pub food
