Guest Reviews
- Yvonne (8/5): - Room basic but very clean. Extremely good value for money. Food was pub grub style but very tasty. Very close to Stansted which was why we chose it and would definitely stay here again
- April (8/5): - Nice staff who were quick to show us to our room was great.
Room was clean, well equipped with drinks. The bedding & towels were fresh. Water was hot for a shower so well appreciated. Lots of toiletries included which was a nice touch.
Downside was the shower cubicle which had seen better days with both black & rust on it. The TV didn't work - it switched on but it couldn't find a digital aeriel - no big problem for one night's stay.
- Liam (8/5): Nice wee room - Very friendly and welcoming staff. There are three rooms in an annex behind the pub so you dont really get noise from the pub itself. Slept really well. Room was quite cold when i arrived and no heating on in the evening, which was a shame. Could do with switching heating on at this time of year. Bathroom bit mouldy in places but minimal. For the price i would say really good value.
- AJ (10/5): - Very clean .very quiet
- David (10/5): - Clean room and a friendly pub with a good value menu
- Graham (6/5): - Friendly staff, reasonably priced food and a decent room.
Unfortunately the room was just off the garden which was busy and very noisy so we got hardly any sleep and had to up at 3.30
Providing ear plugs would be a good idea.
- Kinisha (8/5): Homely Stay - Pleasant staff. Very accommodating with our request for an ealier than 3pm checkin. The room was tidy and clean, although the light shades needed dusting and the toilet seat was broken. A good selection of tea, coffee etc and biscuits. Juice was a welcome surprise. Overall a pleasant stay.
- Paivi (10/5): Friendly and nice place - Very friendly staff, cozy and clean room, and near the bus stop - 15 minute bus journey to the airport. Good value for money :)
- MR N P (8/5): - Good location, nice room and freindly staff. Food was reasonably priced and tasty. Free parking was a bonus.
- Heather (8/5): - Plenty of tea coffee and milk, even Ribena, instead of one each.. Just little touches that are appreciated.
- Stephen (6/5): Fine for an overnight prior to flight - Basic room in converted out building. Beds not great but ok for an overnight prior to a morning flight. The pub was convenient for food and drinks in the evening
- Paul (8/5): A nice stay - Ideal for my use, short stay to attend a concert nearby , Taxi service recomended was great. Room clean, plentiful tea and coffee. Bathroom clean, maybe would benefit from a little TLC sealant renewing etc but fine for our stay
- Mike (8/5): - Clean and tidy, the accommodation is a quirky building at the rear of the pub. Basic but quite acceptable for the price. Conveniently situated for Great Dunlop and the start of a bike ride I was taking part in.
- Giulio (10/5): Convenient, comfortable and excellent value - We stayed before a morning flight and I would definitely stay again. You can arrive up to closing which is 11pm. We initially couldn’t find parking as there was a darts match on (Thursday for reference) but you could block people in and shift it later on. The room was spacious, beds comfortable, and the room had plenty of tea, coffee, UHT milk, sugar as well as shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion. We slept very well. Once the pub is closed it’s very quiet.
- Jane (10/5): - Excellent food, friendly atmosphere
- Stephen (8/5): - The property is perfect for Stansted airport but our room was cold . Could have done with the heating on and extra covers for the bed .
- Stephen (8/5): - Very comfortable and clean
- Indra (2/5): Rooms not great, pub food ok - Room was damp and cold. Bed mattress springs were in your back and couldn’t sleep. Food was nice in the pub though.
- Stephen (6/5): Room 3 - The beds are not the most comfortable, the shower drain is blocking up and won’t be long before it overflows but the premises serves my purposes.
- Brandon (10/5): - Great place to stay before flight from Stansted
- Ian (10/5): Friendly and great value - Lovely pub. The room was in an outbuilding behind it - simple but clean and nicely decorated. Friendly welcome and great service. Mattress wasn't the most comfortable, but all in all a lovely place to stay at a very good price - I would definitely stay again.
- Jean (10/5): - All of the above
- peter (6/5): - Layout of the room
- Toni (10/5): Great little find - Great little find, dog friendly. Clean, comfy.
- Toni (8/5): - Check in was easy. Friendly and efficient. Check out is at 10am every where else seems to be 11am.
Dog friendly.
Not able to park in the car park so a residential side road.
- David (8/5): Excellent for an early Stansted departure - Very friendly staff , room was clean and comfortable.
Pub food was decent value.
It's perfect if you have an early flight from Stansted.
- Ben (8/5): - Reasonable price stay for travelling to Stanstead airport. Would reccomend.

- Jonathan (10/5): Kicking dickie is great - The staff were lovely. The food was great. Newly installed pool table. Will definitely be back again. Couldn't ask for more.
- Steve (6/5): - Conveniently located close to Stansted Airport I slept in a twin bed room with two single beds. The mattresses were very uncomfortable on both beds. New mattresses are essential. Staff very helpful and friendly.
- Helen (10/5): Wonderful stay - Wonderful pub and hotel. A real gem of a place. Excellent stay with proper pub grub. Can highly recommend.
- Jill (10/5): Great place to stay before a Stansted flight. - An excellent place to stay before an early flight from Stansted. Only drawback was the taxi fare of £31 to get to the airport.
Very friendly welcome, even though it was late at night when we arrived.
Would definitely stay there again.
- Lynda (10/5): Cheap overnight stay - Very clean but bed creaky and needed maintenance. Bathroom basic. Food in pub good and well priced
- KRISTINE (10/5): - Very clean. Good shower. Comfy bed. Great.
- Christine (10/5): - The pub was lovely on the inside very clean and comfortable. Rooms were lovely like little cottages in the garden. Both our rooms were clean and comfortable. Plenty of coffee tea milk sugar on the welcome tray. Lovely towels and bedding. Really welcoming friendly staff. Good food at a decent price available. The only thing we didn't like was people standing in the open doorway smoking which is only a few feet away from the tables where we were eating so they might as well have been sitting at our table doing it
- JANE (10/5): - Staff were really friendly the food and atmosphere was lovely as well
- Ian (6/5): - Great for what we wanted, but walls very thin and we could hear every noise from next room.
- Julie (10/5): - Very welcoming and friendly. Great stopover for Stansted. Lovely staff and chef who waited for us to arrive for supper when we were running late. Perfect start to our travels.
- Carolina (10/5): - Staff very eady to work with. Very helpful and kind. Felt safe and had good food.
- Philip (8/5): - Good free parking, food v.good, pleasant staff, room fine except...... had 2 single beds both me and the wife woke with terrible backache,, 2 new mattresses are deffo needed as this was the worst nights sleep ever as springs pinged when you moved.
- Leigh (4/5): - Lady that checked us in was lovely.
No hanging space, not even a hook!
Shower area was mouldy.
Curtain rail fell down in the night and due to outside lights facing the room we were unable to sleep.
Beds lumpy but clean
Ok for a night but nothing more
Emailed to let them know as we left early but have been ignored
Very average.
- ADAM (10/5): - Great
- Darren (10/5): - Great location, friendly staff, great service
- Amanda (10/5): Great stay - Great little room. It was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Plenty of tea and coffee and toiletries, which was nice.
Very friendly and a lovely pub. Food great - and we joined in with Bingo night!
Very convenient for Stansted.
- Denny (8/5): Cosy and friendly - Stayed for one night and had dinner.
Friendly and cosy. Would gladly stay again if local
- Priten (4/5): 1 night budget stay max if desperate - Sadly the stay wasnt as enjoyable as hoped. The mattresses we completely worn out to the point youd sink through the springs and onto the wooden board of the beds. We luckily went on a hot day so we could sleep ontop of the duvet for extra cushioning.
The shower was stained red on the floor and there were obvious bits of mould around the shower cubicle too.
The heater in the room didnt work (we tried for curiosity) and the shower we didnt use as it wasnt clean.
Staff were friendly and helpful though and its a short bus ride away from the airport.
- Dario (10/5): - Nice friendly staff and a nice quiet spot for the night.
- Emma (10/5): - Perfect location for Stanstead Airport.
Clean rooms with everything you need.
Plenty on the tea and coffee tray !
Not the comfiest mattress in the world but for short stay it doesn’t really matter x

- Douglas (10/5): Good find - Great place to stay, really handy for Stanstead airport, and a nice friendly pub next door with decent food. Would definitely recommend.
- PAUL (10/5): Lovely accommodation for Stansted - We stayed one night prior to an early flight from Stansted the next morning. The room was lovely & cosy with TV & kettle. The en-suite was more than adequate.
The pub itself was very welcoming for a nice beer. The food looked pretty good too.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Convenient for those who fly from Stansted - Very convenient for a one night stay if you are flying from Stansted the next morning. Very quiet a lodge-like room behind the pub. Beds comfortable with a clean linen, plenty of tea, coffee, milk, also biscuits for you to enjoy. The only minus was the luck of hangers / hooks to hang your clothes and cleanness of the room, which could be improved as there were cobwebs in every corner of the room, some of them with a small spiders hanging around. Other than that a very good place to stay
- Joanne (6/5): - Was welcomed and shown to our room as soon as we arrived and was told about dinner options. The bedroom was fine but the bathroom could have been cleaner.
For the price it was ok.
- Venus (10/5): - Stay for one night before flight near the airport also last minute is very affordable price worh complimentary drinks! so Good value for your money.
- Theresa (10/5): - Excellent only stayed the one night management very friendly and made us feel welcome as soon as we walked in the door
Everything we needed was in the room
- Jackie (10/5): Basic and comfortable 😌 - When I got to the venue there was a wedding function on. Felt a little awkward walking through to the bar however the lady was very helpful. She immediately took me to my room and showed me the way around the back entrance to the car park. The room was soon heated up once I worked how to turn on the radiator and was cosy. Basic room just what was needed. Comfortable bed. I didn't have any other interaction with anyone but would definitely use this venue again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great little place to stay - Great place to stay - clean, comfortable room, easy parking and really good, freshly cooked pub food. Room was just behind pub, with side access, so easy to get to room from car park. Surprisingly quiet! Staff were lovely, a really nice atmosphere in the pub. There was absolutely nothing to complain about!
- Riki (10/5): Nice Overnight Stay - Booked it as it was close to the airport so super convenient. Room was lovely, bed was comfy. Couldn't have faltered it for what I needed it for.
Check In and check out was super easy. Would happily book there again.
- Brian (8/5): A local Pub - This is very much a local pub and a Karaoke night was in full swing when I arrived on a Sunday evening. That said, my room around the back of the pub was very quiet and I couldn't hear any noise. My single room was small but had everything I needed and was fine for a one night stay.
- Matthew (10/5): Highly Recommended - What a great little place to stay the night! Great little town so close to Stansted. Great room, great food, nothing was too much trouble for Nicola.
- Verified traveler (4/5): The room was fine, the surrounds were NOT. - I really hate giving a bad review, but unfortunately in this instance, I feel I have to.
I just wanted a cheap room for an early morning flight from Stansted. The Kicking Dickey is a 15 minute (at most) cab ride from the airport, so it seemed ideal.
I was initially concerned about trying to sleep in a pub, but the rooms are actually not a part of the pub, and located at the back.
Upon arrival, all looked great. I was escorted through the pub to the room, which was basic, but bright and clean and also had a drinks station. Perfect! Shower gels were also supplied and the water was nice and hot. All looked on track for a 5/5.
Well, that was until I attempted to go to sleep at around 23:00. First it was either pub goers exiting, or staff finishing up, but there were loud conversations and odd shouting/laughing going on for maybe an hour. That was annoying, but died down. No worries.
But what followed was far worse, horrendous snoring that was coming from above me. This was honestly the worst snoring I have ever heard and it was actually so loud, that I heard another person yell something like, "shut up". This was amongst other noises like random sighs/coughs/yelps/groans.
The cherry on top would be the constant wooshing sound made either maybe the pool or a washing machine? Who knows at this point.
- Andrew (10/5): - Good value for money would definitely stay again.
- Timothy (10/5): Great value - Friendly reception, well supplied room, great value
- Jon (10/5): - Its the small things but so good to have enough milk to make more than a two of cups of coffee and best of all some proper cutlery for those guests that may want or even need to have a take away meal in their room.
Just shows a bit of thoughtfulness, thank you.
Jon
- Mike (10/5): - lovely room, plenty of tea and coffee, even cold drinks, great value for money, decent shower, a bit of pub noise until 11pm but only to be expected, would definitely recommend
- alison (8/5): - Nice little pub, well situated for business travel or to the airport.
