Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Kingsize bed in a very small room. No space for other things.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - What I liked - staff (Kerry) great to talk to, served nice breakfast (slice of ham, toast, jam, scrambled egg, orange juice and coffee). Clean, nice, shared bathroom. Good bed linen and bathrobe. What I didn't like -- bed (Boutique room) saggy (I have a neck/back problem), room small (very narrow space beside bed, thus unable to avoid floor vent when walking through - vent also kept getting dislodged). Most inconvenient was the check in procedure, which was from 3:00 PM sharp to 3:30 (guests have to give advance notice if arriving after 3:30 PM). We got there 15 minutes early, very hot and sunny --at exactly 3 PM, we got a call and the door code. We were catching the Elvis shows and it was inconvenient to leave a show (thus leaving a coveted parking space near the show) just to check in at the exact half hour, then going back to the show (and trying to find parking again). It could be said that we could have made prior check in arrangement (a day in advance notice, I believe) but given the nature of the visit,, this would have a tad impractical.
- derek (6/5): less than enjoyable experience - found someone else's under ware on bedroom floor. room obviously not cleaned properly. breakfast only so so . Dry eggs and one small slice of ham. Ok fore a child. would not go back or recommend
- Verified traveler (6/5): - No supples in BAthroom and very small if all 3 rooms were booked.
Breakfast minimal.
Overall value for money not acceptable
- Verified traveler (4/5): - It was not a good place with three rooms of occupants sharing a very small bathroom and the shower had no soap.
- Laura (10/5): - Great B&B in town! Tanya (owner) accommodated us though we are a little bit early on the check-in time. Thumbs up for Kerry on an awesome customer service. đ
- Caroll L (10/5): - The only thing that I was confused about was where to park and was parking allowed on the road.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The Bed wasn,t queen size as they mentioned
In web site.
I haven't had a comfort sleep because if that and
Everythjng else was good.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - not quite what I expected from a B & B. more like a rooming house. owners did not live in the residence.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The on-site staff for breakfast was extremely personable and was knowledgeable about the area and things to do.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We had an early morning leave so could not take advantage of breakfast.
Made ourselves a cup of tea but no water available downstairs (Bria pitcher was empty) so got water from bathroom sink. Would be nice to have a coffee option and maybe access to milk.
Lovely home and location!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Cute for a group of friends, clean house, good breakfast, fine for one night. No privacy really as rooms are close together, shared bathroom is near rooms and kitchen . Sweet thought.
- Steve (10/5): - Bill and Carey (hope I spelled their names properly) are absolutely hilarious as they make breakfast in the morning, so you get dinner and a show! The house, while evidently very old, has been well-kept and maintained, giving it lots of character.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - room was comfortable. staff was friendly and attentive.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Our experience was great overall and will definitely recommend it and return. The only issue, which is a small one, is that our bed, in the basement bedroom, squeaks whenever you move around. Thank you for giving us a great experience and adding to our weekend!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Extremely comfortable bed. Very clean. Robe provided. Easy check in. Simple but tasty breakfast. Provided free Wi-Fi and suggestions for restaurants and activities.
Towels were a bit old, no amenities in the bathroom in case you forgot. House itself was very simple on a quiet residential street.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great spot for a stay. Nice family run spot, perfect and affordable for a romantic getaway with friends or that s
- Brenda (2/5): The most disrespectful owner I have ever encounter - I spent one night at the findlay house that I will never forget!!!! The taps on the sink in the bathroom were loose, the coffee table had broken glass for the surface. There had been an obvious flood that had not been completely repaired. Aside from all of that, the owner was EXTREMELY RUDE to me after I made an inquiry about possibly being charged by Hotels.com as well as by her. She told me that it was impossible for that to happen and started to yell at me and told me to leave after I told her that Visa bills do not generally lie. My husband and I vacated immediatly after several texts that are not appropriate to repeat. Upon investigation by hotels.com, I was reimbursed as I was charged twice for the room. Very sad that a owner would treat a person with such disrespect and did not fulfill the requirements of a B&B. So sad that this happens in a country where we pride our kindness and consideration.

- WILLIAM (10/5): - it was very close to where I was going to be the next day in Collingwood. The Hostess was accommodating regarding flexible arrival times and check-in.
- Bernie (8/5): - Lots of room for parking and location is quite ideal for the avid snowboarders for the price.
The basement room is ideal if ur looking for privacy from other guests. It has a fully furnished den that's ideal for pple 6ft and under as the head room is a bit tight.
The bed I slept on was nice an firm but the headboard was a bit creaky and annoying at the slightest movement.... nothing a pillow in-between wouldn't fix đ
- Ernie (10/5): Nothinâ but a Great Time. - The Findlay house was great. Tanya was amazingly accommodating, especially after there was a slight hiccup with my credit card the day before we arrived. Oksana who took care of us once we arrived was so nice and helpful as well. As per previous reviews that mention a âcurfewâ, thatâs not a thing. Also there is two bathrooms available, not one.
We had breakfast plans with some friends from the wedding but I can say that it definitely smelled amazing.
Not a single negative about the entire experience. If youâve never stayed in a b&b before, itâs definitely something to try! As long as you go in knowing this isnât a hotel and know what to expect.
10/10, next visit to Collingwood I will be staying at the Findlay House, and I will be recommending it to anyone who prefers the feel of a home rather than a copy/pasted hotel room.
- Richard (6/5): Average - We were staying one night over Thanksgiving. Arrived late and obviously ended up with the worst bedroom in the basement. We had what turned out to be our own bathroom, but only one of the four lights worked so it was like the Black hole of Calcutta.
Breakfast was OK and girl in charge worked very hard and did all she could.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Misleading description of facilities - The website description of the Findlay House is misleading. The most egregious misleading aspect is that the bathroom has to be shared by 3 rooms (6 people). There is a curfew at midnight, and the breakfast time has to be booked the day before. The rooms was extremely small. There were more misleading descriptors, about having concierge services and a business centre, excellent location, all lies, but we didn't care about those. the deal breaker was the shared bathroom. We decided not to stay.
- Dave (8/5): - Pleasant welcome, good breakfast. Small room. Helpful staff
- Terry (6/5): - Only there for sleeping as we had a really early start so no breakfast. A/c was cranked pretty high so happy to have comforter on bed and blanket to cover up with while sitting in living area. Bedside light didnât work. Warm welcome and good explanation of where everything was in house and downtown.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff was friendly and professional. Brreakfast very good. We were on main floir. Bedroom doors were squeeky when opened and closed. Was worried about it disturbing other guests during night.
- Riley (10/5): - Oksana was a fantastic host and very accommodating, breakfast was outstanding and the place was clean. would go back anytime.
thanks again for the hospitality.
- Verified traveler (6/5): We had expected a host at a B&B, - The host was reached by phone, we were moved to the basement that was freezing cold, blankets required to watch tv, A fine young lady arrived in the morning to prepare breakfast, eggs and toast in some form, eggs over cooked, French toast under cooked. Second day temperature improved, after a discussion with the cook, the scrambled eggs were quite good. Orange juice and coffee were good, limited fresh fruit, no yogurt as suggested on the website. This is not what I expect at a B&B, if this place is considered to be a B&B. The upstairs rooms looked quite attractive,
- Frank (2/5): Not a B and B - Every B and B I have stayed in across Canada had the following.
A host, reasonable quality mattress, bed size that fit the room, amenities like soap etc. facilities for morning coffee.
The Findlay House had none of these. The king size bed was jammed up against the wall with no room to put a travel clock glasses etc. The bathroom was clean but the only soap etc. appeared to be the remnants left behind by previous occupants. The curtains were thin material that could not block minimal light.
This is not a B and B, At best it is a flop house.
Please read our review on Trip Advisor.
- niran (8/5): - The ad doesn't make it super clear the bathrooms are communal. Otherwise, grear service!
- ed and karen (2/5): Not so comfortable - We found the room to be small. With the queen bed and the big desk, their was no place to open our suitcase. Also, because the three main level guest rooms are so close together, it was rather noisy when the other guests came to their rooms. It did not meet our expectations for the price we paid for it.
- Sean (6/5): - There are not many hotel options in downtown Collingwood so having tried 3 of them in the recent past, we opted for this B&B which was very highly rated on the Expedia site. Not really sure why. Findlay House appears to be a 60s or 70s bungalow in a residential area just south of the downtown. The rooms are tiny and cramped - put a queen sized bed in one and there's barely room to navigate ... there was one small bathroom upstairs and another downstairs. And although only three of the 'bedrooms' in the facility were occupied in the place, the concept of sharing a bathroom with strangers is not something I embrace - and should have been made clear on the website.
- Verified traveler (10/5): First time - Was the girlfriends and I first time staying at a bed and breakfast and would definitely again!! Was very quite and clean and we felt comfortable from the get go. Was only about a 3 min drive into Collingwood and we had a great dinner at a steakhouse on the main street. Oksana made an awesome breakfast for us both before we left and couldn't have been nicer. Would recommend!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room was very cold and it took a long time for the space heater to be effective. The mattress was like a water bed and very difficult to sleep on - we were bouncing around! Breakfast however was excellent.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I was expecting a private bathroom. Breakfasts were substantial and delicious; however, more variety would be good. Can't eat eggs everyday. Suggest varying with fruit, fibre, cereals, etc.
- werner (10/5): - Pretty nice home.very clean and cost.
I would like to come again.
- Angela (6/5): Nice hosts but issues with cleanliness. - Loved the welcoming warm hosts. Accommodating and helpful about local sights and even offered suggestions. Only criticism is room cleanliness... there was significant dust under the furniture (bad if you have asthma) and a couple stains (I believe to be bodily fluids) on the comforter and curtain. Otherwise the king size bed was nice and TV was perfectly placed.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It's a great hotel if you're looking for a comfortable bed and a home environment! It's an older home turned into a hotel and you share a bathroom between a few rooms.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice location, friendly staff - Lovely home in a quiet neighbourhood. Young woman taking care of home very nice and cooked excellent breakfast.
- Robert (10/5): Weekend Getaway - The Findlay House was an excellent place to stay for a weekend escape to Collingwood! Our room was very comfortable with a big screen TV with lots of channels to sit out a rainy evening. There is access to the full kitchen to cook a meal, but there are fantastic restaurants within a 5 minute drive as well. We took advantage of the free wine tasting and 20% off coupon for the Scandinave Spa that came with our stay. Most of all, we were blown away by the breakfast made by Roxanna in the morning! I had a delicious omelette while my wife had french toast with bananas and whipped cream. She said it was the best french toast she has ever had!
The location of the Findlay House makes it quiet at night but a short drive from everything else around Collingwood, we will be staying here again on our next trip back!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Clean with friendly staff - Very clean. The staff (young lady) making breakfast was extremely friendly, efficient and provided excellent customer service.
Small house with 3 bedrooms upstairs sharing one bathroom, that would be the one negative of the experience.
- knitricia (6/5): Lovely owner, too soft bed - Tanya, the owner is a lovely person. She had lots of recommendations for places for dinner and for things to do. The breakfast in the morning was good and filling. We stayed in the basement suite which was good because we had that bathroom to ourselves. Our only complaint is the softness of the mattress. As soon as we sat on it we realized it was going to be bad for our backs. We were booked for one night only. If we had stayed a second night we would have been in pain.
- Brad (10/5): - Nice place, very friendly owner that went out of her way to make sure you were comfortable. I will surely miss breakfast by Oksana in the morning she was amazing and an excellent cook. Very fun personality, instantly put a smile on my face, and I don't like getting up early.
Shared bathroom was always available that could be the only downside to the place but it was never a problem for me. Thank you very much For the nice trip if I get back in the area I would stay there again in a heart beat.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Old mattress and inappropriate linens - We took the basement room. The mattress needed to be replaced. It might be ok for one person but the mattress caused both my husband and me to be rolled to the middle which made sleeping difficult. Also, the fitted sheet had maybe an 8-inch pocket and would slide up the mattress which was 11 or 12 inches deep. Every time I would move in the bed, the sheet would creep up further until it was no longer covering the mattress. My husband and I found ourselves with the light on, trying to remake the bed, in the middle of the night. No fun.
At home, I have a very good mattress on my bed and I expect a fun weekend away to provide as good or better bed compared to home.
The young lady that made our breakfast (Oxana) was very sweet.
- Lorraine (8/5): Convenient location for event at the Blue Mountain - We were in town for a wedding at the Blue Mountains - the Findlay House was a convenient and the hosts were able to accommodate our late hours. Be advised thought that check in is AT 3:00 and if you are going to be later you should call ahead to pre-arrange a time as we arrived just after 3:30 and had to wait for the hosts to arrive and check us in. Not really a problem if you aren't on a schedule but because of the wedding we were.
I called once and left a message and also sent an email, as I wanted to confirm the check in procedures and discuss our late hours. I did not receive a call or email back, which was disappointing although it all worked out in the end.
- Vince (8/5): - Hosts we're very nice. I'd visit again.
- blanche (6/5): - Did have problem with the bed, as it was against the wall. hard to get in the back , hoping would not have to get up til morning.
- Robert (10/5): Nice stay in Collingwood - We stayed for two nights as part of a bike club excursion to the city. Tanya and Andrew were excellent hosts who made a feel very welcome. The basement room was comfortable and well-appointed, and we had full access to the rest of the basement - fridge, bathroom and TV. Both breakfasts were great. Would definitely stay again.
- Sylvia (10/5): Excellent Hosts - These hosts are fabulous. They know the area well. Recommended a great place for dinner. We were able to leave our bikes in the garage.
- Anne (8/5): Vibrant hostess and a great chef. - I stayed there for two nights and was treated very well. Coming from the tension that exists currently in the USA, I found it relaxing and comfortable. Mattress and sleeping pillows to die for... Easy driving to any and all places. Decor was vibrant and interesting. TV facilities excellent as well.
Off street parking available.
