• MAGGIE (10/5): 很舒服的溫泉酒店 - 酒店有專車在巴士車站接送來回，對於有行李的旅客非常方便。房間很乾淨和新，空間亦很大，很舒服的住上。酒店內有私人風呂，只是2200 日元，可以預約獨立浸溫泉。早餐環境和食物都不錯，而且價錢很合理。

• Verified traveler (10/5): 日本的おもてなしの心を教育してほしい - 当日は雪が降る天候でした。チェックイン時に仲居さんが下駄箱に靴を運んでくださったのですが、翌日チェックアウト後、下駄箱より運んで頂いた靴先の泥が拭き取られていませんでした。 日本的な雰囲気の外見なので、サービスも日本的なおもてなしの心を期待します。少し残念でした。
• Chung Yau (6/5): 只有失望 - 個人於一泊二食的豐富經驗中，膳食最差的這一家肯定排第一。起初被酒店本身過百年外觀及員工服務吸引，之後發現房間偏舊式也覺是正常不過的，但估計不到這樣百年老店的膳食(晚餐)竟走新派路線，冰凍的熱牛肉都可以奉上，是平日早餐 coldcut 的那種，其他的都談不上水準，都是服務搭夠。太两難，位置和服務好，但食物和溫泉水質感覺一般。

• Daniel (10/5): - The fact that this building is over a hundred years old. Makes it a worthwhile location to stay. A short hop (500m) to the town centre and turning right at the hotel entrance brings you to a scenic outdoor man made/natural onsen location with Tori gates shrine nearby. The staffs are proficient in English and extremely helpful. Would recommend booking the private onsen so that the whole family can be together to soak and relax while creating new memories. This would be my go-to hotel if we visit Gunma again.
• Verified traveler (10/5): 美好的日式旅館 - 如果要說有什麼挑剔的，可能就是沒法在房間用餐是比較可惜的。以前去溫泉區住宿日式旅館都是在房內用餐，所以這一點有點小失望。除此之外，一切都很好。服務很體貼、客房很乾淨、餐點好吃、溫泉風呂也很好，距離溫泉主街也很近。值得推薦。
• SHU YI (10/5): - There are only 1 indoor & 1 outdoor onsen. But the outdoor one is nice. Food is good. Staff is very nice. Free pickup from/to bus terminal.
• Mei (8/5): Great place to stay - It was an amazing hotel within easy reach of restaurants, shops and the Yubatake. Breakfast and dinner were superb and staff were attentive. The only thing I’d comment on is that the fact that there’s no elevator in the buildings. So the staff has to carry guests baggage’s up and down the stairs, which was brutal. Other than that, it was a pleasant getaway with outstanding onsens.

• Verified traveler (8/5): タオルが有料 - 素泊まりで快適に過ごせましたが、コロナの影響でまわりの店があまり賑わっておらず、おまけに土砂降りだったので夕飯を宿で用意できるか聞いたところ今からは無理とのこと。それと、このご時世、常に清潔なタオルを使いたかったため、朝お風呂に行く際に新しいバスタオルをお願いしたところ有料だと言われました。素敵な宿でしたがそちらは残念でした。

• EMIKO (8/5): 老舗旅館に相応しい従業員教育を！ - 早目のチェックインを融通戴いたのは大変有り難かったが、コロナ騒ぎが未だ治まらない中で従業員へのマスク着用徹底が為されていなかった事、食事のサービスマナーに一部問題が有った事(冷酒セッティングの不備、客が食べている側で下げる食器を重ねた)等は拙かった。又、緊急連絡用に、フロントから離れた場所に在る脱衣場や休憩場にフロント直通インタフォンを設置すると良いと思った。

• Abhipong (8/5): Good location. Average onsen - The hotel's location was excellent. A stone's throw from Sainokawara Park and the centre of town. The park is a must. We did not have any issue with the noises due to the age of the property that others have commented on, however, the onsen was a little disappointing. Indoor onsen was average, the outdoor one was lukewarm and the private onsen was.. just a tub. Otherwise, we had a pleasant stay in Kusatsu with the snow quality and the nice little onsen town.

Cost of private onsen should not be implemented on hotel guests as there was no view which is worthy of the amount. Go for the private onsen only if you feel uncomfortable in the same onsen as other hotel guests.

• MAGGIE (10/5): Snowing in Kusatsu Onsen - We loved this hotel and the design. The front desk, drivers and all service staff were very friendly and helpful despite lack of English. There was one gentleman who spoke pretty good English though. The breakfast was delicious and different for both days. You have to try the soba at Mikuniya. Its so good and goes well with tempura. It snowed on both days we were there and we loved it. Ps try the hotel amd you will enjoy the charm.

• Gerald (10/5): Kusatsu Hotel - The staff in the hotel was very polite, and explained the facilities within the hotel, brought out and kept our futon for us when we left the hotel, and was very efficient in helping us for the reservation of the hotel’s bus and massage
• Erika (10/5): - Great hotel with ryokan atmosphere which has several rooms with western amenities, such as air condition, private bathroom, elevated twin "beds" i.e. comfortable futons on a raised platform, and a comfortable seating area.etc. The private onsen was great. Location is ca 7 min. by foot from the Onson Town Center.
• Caroline (10/5): - Great place to stay near the Sainokawara Open-Air Bath. Great hospitality. The room stays minimalist yet comfortable and soothing. Very nice footbath near the cafe of the hotel. Felt extremely welcome from the moment we climbed up the beautiful hill to get to the magnificent hotel porch.
• Geoff (8/5): - Comfortable slightly older property in a great location (5 mins walk to main area/water ceremony). On-site onsen is ok but there are many other options in the area to try. Only downside is slight cigarette smell in one of the common areas — rest of hotel and our room totally smoke smell free though. Would stay again. Staff were exceptional.

Onsens/hot springs are fantastic, especially the half open air one, taking hot bath and enjoying the snow at the same time! Staffs are all very friendly and warm hearted. Great location, they also have pick up service. Highly recommend!

It was fun staying in a ryokan style hotel, and the futon mats were comfortable, although not the same as a real bed so if you need real cush, this might not be for you. The setting is very pretty and the hotel is conveniently located within easy walking distance of the town center, the hot spring park and the museum. There is also free parking. The hot spring bath at the hotel is convenient and has nice amenities (shampoos, personal care items, etc), but the bath is not as pretty as some of the other hot spring baths in town or in the park. We had a corner room which was very pleasant and we really enjoyed our stay. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that, although the hotel was clean and well run, the physical structure could use some sprucing up--especially the bathroom in the room (although it can be hard to find a ryokan with a bathroom en suite, so that is a plus). I would recommend Kusatsu Hotel to others.

• Phillip (6/5): An inhospitable hospitality experience - We arrived at reception to check in and there was a notice which read to approximate ‘We are are currently renovating and there will be shaking and rattling in the building ..........,’The hotel was intending to upgrade,understandably so ,but the function of a hotel is to offer hospitality not subject their guests to a seriously annoying experience while they work on their capital gain . Beware the work has jusr begun.

Staff had limited English but would go out of their way to be accomodating to our family of 4. Walking distance to everything worth visiting in Kusatsu. We loved our stay and will definitely return.
• NATNICHA (10/5): The precious time :))) - Kusatsu hotel is a very wonderful place that you will get the experience for Japanese ryogan. Staff are also very nice to please you ;))) Although the location of hotel is a bit far from the Yubatake (Origin of the hot spring in Kusatsu area; walk arond 8 minutes), but you will enjoy with the “ Onsen Manju” (Dessert in Kusatsu area) and various local shops and souvenirs. Please visit here and stay in Kusatsu hotel, you are not going to be disappointed !!!

• Loc (10/5): Love this hotel - The service at this hotel is the best. They are very helpful, from the time we checked in until we checkout. we stayed in the Japanese style room, slept on a futon. The breakfast was so cute, but so little. The onsen in the hotel were so hot, take a quick deep before bed is a good feeling. The area is so close to everything. I will come back to this hotel in the near future. Only bad thing, room 214 is right above the onsen so in the morning the room smell like a rotten egg.
• Greg (10/5): Outstanding traditional hotel in Kusatsu-machi - We were a family of 4 on a touristic visit to Japan. We ended our trip in the famous onsen town of Kusatsu with two nights at the Kusatsu Hotel, and were happy that we saved the best for the last. It was a wonderful, memorable experience. The hotel staff were exceptionally attentive and helpful even by Japanese standards, and we really enjoyed the traditional rooms and hotel garden. The onsen (hot baths) in the hotel were excellent, with cooler outdoor pools among greenery, and we never used the public baths. The hotel is at the edge of town, next to a park, and everything is within easy walking distance. We didn't take meals at the hotel (very expensive) so can't comment on them. Overall, we highly recommend this hotel for a high-class experience of a Japanese onsen.

• Tommy (6/5): Impression of Kusatsu Hotel - The staff are friendly but they don't speak English well. It is very difficult to communicate with them. The shower curtain is very dirty. Telling the hotel staff but they could only say "Sorry".

Hotel rooms has heaters to keep you warm if the weather is cold. Alternatively, if the weather is hot, there is also aircon. If you prefer the outdoor hot springs, it's about 7 mins walk with an entry fee of 600 yen. There are many food options around there within stipulated timings for lunch and dinners
• Verified traveler (10/5): Great Hotel - We booked 2 rooms and we liked the services very much. When you arrive at the station, just ask the staff in tourist information centre to call the hotel for pick up. The hotel staffs are great and the facilities are awesome. We regretted for not booking the half board. Definitely would come back again and we will stay for 2 nights at least. One night is not enough. We love this hotel so much.

• Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful Charming Hotel! - Had a wonderful stay at Kusatsu Hotel. The Hotel is old, however, it's age added to it's charm. The rooms were comfortable, and the hot springs were relaxing. It was a peaceful break from the hustle of Tokyo. We got the dinner package, so that made the experience even better. I'm glad my friend & I decided to splurge & got the dinner package. The dinner was an experience that you would have paid twice as much outside but w/o the hotel stay & the hot springs. Also, our package included breakfast, breakfast was similar to dinner experience. We felt very spoiled here. Overall, it is a great place to stay with a group of friends. Note, the hot springs are separate by male/female only rooms, so go w/ a close girl friend/guy friend if you want someone to hang out with in the hot springs. Otherwise you have to sign up for the family room which doesn't have the verity of baths.
• Paige (10/5): Traditional Onsen Ryokan - Beautiful - Traditional onsen ryokan (hot spring guest house). Very picturesque building on a hill, 5 minute walk to Yubetake & 15 minute walk to bus terminal. Staff very friendly, polite & peaceful. Inside the building was lovely and the onsen gowns were very comfortable. Free coffee near an outdoor foot bath. 2 onsens which swap male-female each night at 10pm, both have indoor & outdoor baths with traditional washroom (stool, shower, bucket, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hair dryer, tissue, moisturiser, hair brush). Get a full towel & small towel. Tatami mat, crunchy pillow (has some husks inside!) & doona. Only downside was our neighbour was stomping around his room through the night keeping us awake and rooms very warm!!

I would love to go back for next year. Its only takes a minutes to Sainokawara hot spring, a beautiful park with hot spring. Bring along your own towel while to visit sainokawara. Its one experience you have to do in a lifetime

• Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel for hot spring - The hot spring is fantastic where the facilities are of good quality. The only defect is the room being too small to accomodate three beds.
• Tarique (6/5): Refused dinner - While Kusatsu was a terrific place to visit, and the hotel was largely okay, we were disappointed on one point. Upon checking in we were informed that our room rate did not include dinner at the hotel, something we had been looking forward to. Despite requests asking them to accommodate us since we had a small child and walking out in the cold at dark to find dinner was thoroughly inconvenient, no dinner was forthcoming on our three nights there. To be refused a meal even when you are prepared to pay for it is not an experience I would recommend to anyone. Hotels.com needs to do a better job in making it clear that dinner is extra and needs to be booked in advance.
• Verified traveler (10/5): - We have stayed at a wide range of hotels and onsen over the years up and down Japan. At some there is no choice but to dine in house. At some there is no choice but to rely on the hotel's shuttle for access. Usually this turns out to be no problem at all and the visit is very enjoyable. But sometimes the experience might seem a little bit too controlled. The Kusatsu Hotel and the hot springs town it serves excel because they provide an unusual variety of choices. While the hotel baths are very nice the nearby outdoor baths in the public park are sublime. The hotel's location is perfect between the park and town. And while we dined in town and cannot judge the hotel's cuisine everything else about the service we received was excellent.
• Emma (10/5): Traditional Japanese experience - Unique experience in a beautiful town. The staff spoke little English but this seemed to add to the experience and we managed to figure everything out. We chose the half board option and the meals were intricate and huge! Very special. You can reserve the private onsen at the desk were you arrive, or use the larger onsens that separated into male and female. Robes are provided and I loved getting to wear these around.
