Guest Reviews
- Kevin (5/5): Avoid. Very disappointing. Won't be going back. - Excellent location and very clean. A very unfriendly welcome after a long journey. Very factual - not smiles or proper greeting. We asked twice for neighbouring rooms and despite arriving just after three we were told it was not possible. I was asked when we wanted breakfast on arriving - having been asked twice before we arrived and having already told them. Breakfast was average. Tomato juice was bad/fizzy and the coffee maker didn't work. And a very weird thing: room keys were in a paper envelope - an complete waste of paper! Bathroom tiny and dreadful view of some pipes coming out of the building.
- Philip (10/5): Super 5star hotel - Location. Exceptional decor and furnishings. I received 5star service. Food quality was at the top. It would be unfair of me to knit pick and crticise.
- Marcus (7/5): Preis Leistung passt nicht - Preis Leistung nicht passend.
Personal eher mittelmäßig bemüht.
Zimmer sehr klein und hinten zum Parkplatz raus.
- Philip (8/5): Very good and charming staff - Spacious Nothing
- Laurie (10/5): -
- Jan (2/5): Disappointed stay - We choose this otel for its location close to city center and beach. Our stay was a significant disappointment that fell far short of the five-star standards we expected.
Room 123 was particularly problematic; its proximity to the kitchen exhaust resulted in poor air quality and a persistent odor of fish-and-chips. The interior was equally subpar, featuring an uncomfortably hard bed and an outdated bathroom that lacked any sense of luxury or modernization.
The breakfast experience was similarly frustrating. The hotel’s policy of charging a £3 supplement for basic items like eggs felt like "nickel-and-diming," which is unacceptable for a 5 star hotel. Furthermore, despite numerous vacant tables with sea views, we were 'offered' a table in the back and in front of the kitchen entrance.
To conclude, the service was entirely impersonal. Checkout was handled with utter indifference, as the staff failed to offer even a basic inquiry into our experience. Ultimately, this hotel lacks the refinement and hospitality culture necessary to justify its 5-star rating. We expected a level of comfort and professionalism that simply wasn’t delivered.
- Holmesabroad (10/5): The Royal Duchy, Falmouth - A 3 night break for a big birthday, perfect size hotel for us, not too large. Staff helpful and friendly, food delicious. Our room overlooked the sea, road not too busy with traffic noise, lots of joggers and walkers. Pool area was lovely, a decent size, and warm water.
- IAN (8/5): Enjoyed our stay in a super location, lovely hotel - Most things. We were upgraded to a sea view. Excellent pool and gym. Nice bar, good location. Felt secure with good car park. Very little to dislike. Brend Hotels have such good standards. Only thing really to mention was the lady on reception wasn't the friendliest and tended to ignore and not make eye contact. She didn't say hi or good morning for example. That's not "normal" for a Brend hotel.
- juliem0y (10/5): A lovely relaxing coastal stay with wonderful staff - I had a really lovely couple of nights at the Royal Duchy Hotel. The location is perfect, right by the sea, and it was so nice to be able to step out for fresh air and coastal walks.
I especially enjoyed the spa, which was peaceful and relaxing (I even had it to myself at one point!).
The hotel itself has a calm, comfortable feel and was a great place to unwind.
What really stood out though was the staff. Everyone was so friendly and helpful – from the porter who made sure I stayed warm and comfortable, to the cheerful waitress who really brightened my stay, and the night manager who kindly helped me out when my charger failed!
There was a small hiccup with breakfast service, but it didn’t take away from what was otherwise a really enjoyable stay.
Overall, a lovely experience and I would happily return.
Already thinking about my next visit!

- Normalmum42 (6/5): Disappointing food at celebratory dinner. - Locals visiting for special birthday dinner. Sadly very disappointing potato starter and steak for supper. Definitely not fine dining.
But friendly staff, lovely dining room and stunning views .
- leecN8840RU (8/5): Excellent - Lovely hotel, well maintained , great position by the sea & a short walk into the town. Friendly staff - recommended.

- Dreamer35477309593 (8/5): Good but not quite there - My wife and I are a group organisers and took our group to the Royal Dutchy by coach. This is a very nice clean and well appointed hotel with one or two problems for groups. First the restaurant service was slow ans sometimes painfully slow. Prior to our holiday we had difficulty in getting feedback on available table sizes which makes it difficult for a group organiser to allocate tables so that friends sit together in groups of 4 or 6.Then some of our members wanted to stay in the hotel in the daytime and use the lounge but found all of the sea view tables reserved for locals coming in for coffee. Rooms were comfortable and well furnished but some lacked space with some of our members having difficulty in putting suitcases out of the way. The room i had was nice with a sea view but the bed was lumpy and uncomfortable depending on how you lay in bed. Others of our party complained a nowhere to put stuff in the bathroom. I heard various comments about the food some good some not so good but i had no problems with food other than the lack of vegetables which were listed as an extra for an additional £5, though i believe that the charge was not actually ever made for those who ordered extra..
Overall it is a really nice hotel and is clean and comfortable but for groups it still has a lot to learn, nothing that a little training will not put right.
- O6041KFemmat (10/5): Lovely stay! - We have just got home from our weekend away at The Royal Duchy, we have left feeling very relaxed and very well fed! All the staff were so lovely and accommodating. We are a couple in our early 20s and would definitely recommend/go back!
- John_txic (6/5): Let down by poor service at Dinner - All in all a very good hotel, but the provision of Dinner in the restaurant was hit and miss.
Service was very slow, it seeming to take an age to take our orders and to be served with the food. The staff seemed to be out of their depth in what was a relatively quiet period.
Whilst the quality of the food was very good, the menu choices lacked variety. During our 4 night stay, Fish & Chips and Sirloin Steak were on the menu every night. Of the 3 or 4 other choices, there was quite a bit of repetition in the offerings: you do not expect to see the same choices twice in 4 nights. Starters and Desserts were also recycled during our short stay.
- chisnallhood (10/5): The BEST hotel in Cornwall - Wow !! We arrived for a 2 night stay to celebrate my retirement. On arrival we were upgraded to the Armada Suite … absolutely amazing and really appreciated. We’ve stayed a number of times (lovely standard double rooms before ..including their ‘Twixmas’ package) … always brilliant.
A hotel with lovely lounges, pool area, restaurant with great food… but any hotel is only as good as its staff … who at The Royal Duchy are fabulous… thank you to all of you, on behalf of my wife and myself, for making my retirement celebration such a wonderful experience … we live in Truro and regularly visit for a morning cappuccino.. which we will continue to do … but already looking forward to staying at this wonderful hotel again …. 11/10 … !!!
- annmundler (8/5): A very rnjotable break - The food needs a little refinement, The menu hss notchanged since iue last stay. The Duchy is a top class hotel and expectations from guests are high
- graham137 (10/5): An outstanding hotel - My wife and I visited for a five day break. This is a Brend Hotel. The Brend Collection has recently been awarded AA Small Hotel of the Year 2025/2026. On the basis of this visit, it is easy to see why. The room was most comfortable and well appointed, the breakfast was hearty and the dinners were of a very high quality; the scallops, hake and steaks were particularly good. The service was absolutely excellent, provided by a first class team.
- Kelmscott_12 (4/5): Disappointing afternoon tea. - I have never stayed at the hotel, although it does look lovely. I came with some friends for afternoon tea and was very disappointed with sandwich selection. Only salmon sandwich and cucumber sandwiches on offer. I’m a vegetarian but will occasionally eat fish which was a god send really as I would have only had cucumber sandwiches to eat! Which were very dry. Other places I have been too would do a selection, egg, cheese, meat, prawn. So I was surprised with the sandwiches on offer, but the little cakes were lovely.
- terrireynolds314 (10/5): Excellent hotel with great sea views - The Royal Duchy offers high levels of service and great food in the dining room and light-filled conservatory with great sea views. We stayed in a spacious inland room with large comfy bed and room to relax. Pool area very inviting - especially the hot ceramic beds! Would recommend.
- 325ChrisH (6/5): A lovely hotel but disappointing dining experience - We have stayed here several times over many years and eaten here on numerous family occasions. Whilst everything about this hotel has remained first class sadly we found that the standard of the food has gone right down.
The restaurant is classed as fine dining but the food we were recently served was anything but. Sunday lunch saw all the food just piled in a big heap onto the one plate and smothered in a thick gravy. This was never the case in the past with well presented attractive individual vegetables and gravy dishes.
We had a similar disappointment at a later evening dinner. A fish dish tasting of ammonia garnished with inedible glazed spring onions and a linguine dish covered in a gloop devoid of any garnishing. Neither dish looked appetising or in any way attractive and appealing. Whilst the Crème Brulee had a good crust the underneath was runny.
So very disappointing compared to the many meals we have eaten here in the past when the plates of food were beautifully presented very attractive to the eye and always delicious.
- Paul (9/5): An enjoyable experience was had by us both. - Breakfast was varied and delicious. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a good view over the sea, even though the weather wasn’t perfect Weather. Distance into town to walk
- Robert (8/5): Good Hotel for a quiet stay - The staff were polite, friendly and very efficient from the warm welcome of the doorman to the cheerful breakfast team. Location is excellent for the view over the bay and beach but a fairly long hike if you wish walk to the harbour area. The decor and cleanliness of all the public areas is well above par and a credit to the maintenance/cleaning staff.
Only ate breakfast which was well prepared and presented by a very efficient team Not keen on showers over a bath, noise transference between rooms an issue and floor boards are very squeaky in both the bedroom and the corridors
- suziemiller2018 (10/5): Stunning - A beautiful Hotel, tasteful decor, very clean, clean comfortable bedroom, great food in the Terrace Bar as well as in the Restaurant. spectacular location views of the sea, lovely walks to the beaches, a very friendly welcome by the very smart Porter at the door. Staff all helpful, friendly and professional. Nice to have a dip in the pool after walking. All in all, we loved our stay, loved Falmouth, will be back, thankyou to all.
- robertmG1246ZP (10/5): Excellent - Excellent rooms, food and service. we have known this hotel for many years, and my parents before us.
- wjtearney (8/5): Enjoyable stay - Very enjoyable stay at the Royal Duchy hotel, all of the staff were very helpful and friendly. A beautiful location would definitely stay again.
- Brenton (10/5): -
- Caroline (9/5): Excellent! -
- richardwZ9108FZ (8/5): Peaceful retreat - Despite the slightly old fashioned air the hotel has been very successful in generally updating the whole show. Restaurant and cuisine were good, staff, particularly reception. were excellent
- Discover13933207638 (10/5): Old school in a modern way. - From the welcome at the door to checking out, every single thing was a joy. The food quality and bar service was exemplary. Being greeted by doorman James sets the tone for the whole thing!
- 914jennyl (10/5): Luxury, Location and Views - The Royal Duchy has the perfect location as it looks out to sea and Pendennis plus beaches nearby, plus it is onl5 15 minutes from the town centre with plenty to do, shop, drink and eat.
All the staff were very polite and definitely well trained.
I had a single room and found this to be the perfect space for myself. Comfy bed and everything you could need. The spa area is lovely and calming. I dined one evening and food was excellent! Breakfast buffet and option for cooked was also top quality,
- miicoe (8/5): very good, but menu needs more imagination. - Staff, facilities were excellent. Just think the dinner menu needs a boost. Clean, well presented spaces, excellent staff.
- allisonscott2026 (10/5): Beautiful Hotel - We enjoyed a lovely weekend at this beautiful hotel. The staff were very nice and the food amazing. Made use of the indoor pool and sauna everyday. Will definitely return. The weekend break deal with Sunday lunch included is good value for money and the Sunday lunch is one of the best we’ve ever had.
- Doug (10/5): - Location is great hotel is fantastic Nothing
- Clive (8/5): -
- Lee (8/5): -
- Richie 86 (10/5): - Lovely hotel, with great facilities.
- teamy (10/5): How have I not stayed here before! - Stayed here for two nights booked last minute, did not want to go far from home.
Booked a inland facing room but when I went to book in I asked if there were any seaview rooms and how much was very surprised with the price I got and stayed in room 116.
From the moment we stepped into the hotel the staff could not do enough for us.
Very friendly, helpful and always smiling.
The room had a great view of the bay and a pair of binoculars were supplied !
Coffee machine good selection of condiments, bath robes and slippers.
Plenty of storage also a sofa.
The restaurant and bar food was very good value found it cheap for a hotel .
Breakfast was great I had the salmon and scrambled egg at an additional charge but wanted to try it. Very nice.
The swimming pool was warm, sauna and gym all in the price.
They even supplied Dry robes if you would like one!
We could not find fault with the decor.
Will definitely be going back again very relaxing stay.
- Patricia (8/5): - Excellent location. Spa very pleasant. We stayed there a long time ago when the food was delicious. Pleasant but the menu was the same each night- thrre were no specials to add varieyy so we ate in Falmouth our third night for a change.
- Andrew (10/5): Fabulous hotel with exceptional breakfast and views - Fabulous hotel. Staff were friendly, the breakfast was first class and the bed extremely comfortable Nothing. Everything was perfect for my stay
- STEVEN (10/5): How haven’t I found this hotel before? - From the moment you entered the hotel nothing was any issue. The staff could not do enough for you.
The room was amazing with a sea view , got good price on up grade when I arrived.
Food in the restaurant and bar was very good and well priced.
Great pool and facilities. Nothing
- Christopher (8/5): Overall a very pleasant stay. - The room was lovely but we would have preferred something a little more spacious. The view from the room was great - see attached picture. The breakfasts were rather unimaginative. However the evening meal on the first evening was good.
- helenrowe109 (10/5): Great Hotel in excellent location - Great service at The Royal Duchy Hotel for my birthday. Fantastic afternoon tea. Staff were very attentive. Thank you
- Chris (9/5): - A lovely ambience to the hotel. Excellent staff. Nothing
- PaulBass97 (10/5): Perfect - Great hotel, location and pool. Breakfast was excellent with good vegan options. Dry RObes for the beach was a nice touch. Would stay again.
- arthurdebbie (8/5): Lovely Room and great staff - The bed was not firm enough for my liking but everything else was clean tidy and well presented. We had a warm welcome and there was a great selection for breakfast (with a view!)
- Geandson1 (10/5): The best in Falmouth - We have just had another wonderful stay at the Royal Duchy ….we have stayed here a few times and cannot fault it …
Very welcoming..staff are so helpful and friendly….great breakfast …spotlessly clean .
I do wish there was a beautician though …..many years ago there was a beauty room and a snooker games room …miss that but that’s just my personal choice … thanks to Gail on reception who was very helpful .
Will be back in the summer …thank you to all once again
- H933KZstephenl (8/5): Relaxing break with great view and nearly just right - Good stay but would have liked slightly larger room for the price. Bed good, room v clean and well appointed with great sea view.. Pool and sauna just right. Bar fine with good view and reasonable prices. Breakfast needs to book a time(why?) when only the egg looked to be cooked fresh. Bacon was like shoeleather. Evening meal average. Had a halibut dish with mussels on day one dominated by a tomatoe sauce - not very pleasant. Day 2 had fish and chips which were ok but why do chefs insist on putting the fish on top of the chips making them soggy. Also had a beef fillet dish with a curious portion of cottage pie and some garlic dominated savoy cabbage - all slightly wrong but the beef was good. Desserts were nothing special. Overall price was OK but we did expect something better. Staff all very pleasant and decor fresh and relaxing.
- pcwood (10/5): Peter Wood - Very pleased with the service., would like to stay longer but didn’t have any more time. The only problem was with the availability parking facilities
- Global03779893380 (10/5): Relaxing, quality Sunday lunch - We enjoyed a relaxed Sunday lunch at the Royal Duchy. We had the roast beef and it was refreshing to be asked how we wanted our beef cooked. Everything on the plate was prepared to perfection with great flavour through all the vegetables rounded off with a deep, rich gravy.
The white chocolate and raspberry mousse was superb. Not too sweet and the blueberries with candied orange zest were yummy.
The staff were friendly and attentive and it was just a really relaxing experience compared to a carvery and offered true value in our opinion. We’d definitely recommend this as a venue if you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy a Sunday lunch.
- coffeendcake (10/5): Fab location, excellent customer service - Fantastic hotel. Breakfast superb. Two night stay. Excellent location.
- Helena (10/5): -
- John (8/5): delightful hotel with very welcoming and helpful staff, the location is pleasant and the spa great - The pool an dsauna etc were good, especially after a long travel. Parking was easy,
Breakfast was good, the doorman and all the staff were very polite, weloming and helpful.
very good location, lots of good walks. the bed was a little hard and the room a little cramped but we had a good time and very much enjoyed our stay.
- Budleighboy2018 (10/5): An enjoyable stay - We came for a short break and in spite of the awful weather we enjoyed our stay.
Our room was fine and the staff were all polite and helpful. The food at dinner was excellent.
Two minor points:-
1 My wife ordered poached eggs on toast for breakfast and these were served on one small thin slice of toast despite her asking for thick toast. Just looked a bit mean.
2. In the bathroom a handle to hold on to when stepping out of the bath would be useful, especially for those of us who are 'of an age.'
- Kathleen (9/5): - Very clean and polite staff Double bed was small
- Samantha (10/5): - The hotel spa, sauna and swimming pool were excellent.. Breakfast was much better than expected. The hotel staff were very friendly and polite.. Nothing
- liz (10/5): Relaxing - Friendly excellent breakfast Nothing
- Karen (7/5): A couple, hiking in November - Lovely situation and great food. The staff were excellent. Nice pool & warm seats. The rooms are a bit dated, but comfortable.

- anniehI1459AO (10/5): Royal Duchy Hotel Falmouth - Very impressive hotel - A very pleasant and comfortable stay at the Royal Duchy Hotel in Falmouth. Free car parking. The staff were delightful, facilities were comprehensive, clean and comfortable. The attention to detail was noticed and appreciated. The spa pool was superb and well stocked with towels, robes etc. Dry robes were available for guests when using the beach. A great touch. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone.

- Launder (10/5): Excellent - The hotel was excellent the staff were extremely helpful and courteous
- G5706CQgordons (10/5): Good quiet stay. - We stayed for two nights via a Travelzoo offer and found it to be of very good value.
The hotel was very clean throughout and the staff friendly and helpful.
The room was quiet and comfortable but a little small.
We found to our amusement at 50 odd we were the youngest guests. It’s definitely for those like us that want a quiet relaxing stay.
- millymoo44 (10/5): For the older generation, very quiet - Quiet hotel, friendly staff and very clean.
The food was good but they could definitely improve on the vegan options such as vegan cream and butter with the cream tea not just a huge lump of flora margarine !
Dry robes available to borrow for a walk if needed .
Being in our early 50's we were quite possibly the youngest guests there.

- carolinem418 (8/5): Stay with a wheelchair user - This was a break for my blind and disabled sister with whom we frequently use local
Hotels . It was a difficult stay partly due to a terrible storm but some staff could have been more helpful .
The food is fantastic and the pool ok but difficult for a wheelchair user .

The room was really comfortable and the pool was shear luxury with complimentary towels all provided. A choice of restaurants and a wide variety menu. We were seduced into treating ourselves more and more and really enjoyed or stay. Oh - and the views are to die for with just a short walk from the sea front location into Falmouth town centre - couldn't ask for anything more!
