Guest Reviews
- ludovica (10/5): - The house brings you back in time and offers you a unique experience to live Tokyo in a less touristic way. Be prepared to leave western expectations behind yet having the opportunity to communicate with a great staff in English at any point in time. They offer options for Japanese and western breakfast which is good if you travel to other kids. The neighborhood is not a touristic one and you are literally 1 min away from train station so you can enjoy the local atmosphere or going downtown as you please. Really a great stay!
- steve (8/5): Great place to stay for a few nights if you want something a bit different, and it’s on the line to the airport so was a - A really quirky place to stay, unlike all the usual hotels / apartments this has a lot of traditional charm so was a great experience Nothing bad
- Tamara (8/5): Excellent! - Proximity to train station. The bath tub was not fixed to the floor and kept moving.
- Warfield (10/5): Great first night stay in Japan! - Great space. Warm. Lots of amenities and friendly hosts! Great at check in and check out. Helped take bag to the closest train station even. Would stay there again.

- paulius (10/5): Top quality hotel nice and clean love old Japanese style house staff is very friendly located next to metro station 100% - Top quality
- Rui (10/5): Wonderful place! Wonderful service team! - The location is very convenient. The house is old fashioned but super cozy. Many good restaurants are within walk distance- I love them!!!! The staff team are very friendly, thoughtful and easy to communicate- Thank you guys!!!! No
- Grace (9/5): Lovely authentic stay in Tokyo! - From the first moment, the property host is very accommodating as we have two separate groups arriving from different countries. Breakfast included each day and was superb. The location is nice residential area and very close to local trains. We also found it easy to walk to many popular destinations. This is a very authentic and unique place to stay in Tokyo - but it’s not exactly like a western hotel. Parts of the townhome were steep or had low overhead beams. Quite honestly, it is part of the charm. Noisy due to near main routes. A little drafty in winter, but the provided individual space for each room to mitigate that.

- Katherine (10/5): Short and sweet, but would definitely stay here again for longer!!! - We loved the location! Very convenient to the train station. Easy access when coming from the airport with alot of bags. The home was beautifully decorated and breakfast service was amazing! We loved the traditional feel of the home and little details like the horse scavenger hunt for the children. Highly recommend staying here!!

- Ashwini (9/5): Would be back in a heart beat! - Disclaimer: We were supposed to stay 4 days at Bamba, but, because of a renovation, they moved us to Hotel Rin Tokyo for 2 days which was FANTASTIC! Great location, the house is updated with Japanese aesthetics, minimal but adequate kitchen items (we only made coffee). Washer/ dryer that worked like a charm. Very modern bathroom which my kids loved. It was just perfect!
The other 2 days was at Bamba. Beautiful character home, but, I would like to mention that the bedroom is located up a very steep set of stairs so may not be for everybody. Also, the bathroom, although updated has a tub which is hard to get in and out of, so again something to note for older folks.
But, the staff is the what makes this stay most wholesome. So kind and courteous. I am vegan and the rest of my family isnt, but, they accommodated a Japanese breakfast bento box for me which my meat eating family enjoyed much more than their own :). They helped with luggage forwarding to our other hotels, super prompt with their responses, waited till we were home from the airport to personally hand over keys, dropped breakfast every morning. Very smooth interactions (I am used to the cold, leaving the key in a box American way and appreciated this interaction).
We would definitely recommend this stay whole heartedly!100%

- Josh (10/5): Excellent, cozy and clean. - Was nice and old fashioned, we absolutely loved the dining area, rooms were nice, the main bed was big, had a small little room off the main bedroom which had a nice little view on to the street which was great. Location was very good right next to a train station. 2 min walk. Azusa and Kimmy looked after us very well and showed us the local places to around on a map.
Thank you again. Nothing
- Ambra Oana (10/5): - The house was very traditional and special. The breakfast was also really yummy. The hosts were very friendly and giving us a lot of information about the area.
- Sarah (10/5): Convenieni - Breakfast was good. As was location. Stairs were a bit steep to the second floor. English brochures describing facilities could have been placed more out in the open where we could see them.
- Rob (10/5): Amazing, authentic and welcoming. - It was an amazing first stay in Japan for this trip, skip the big hotels, stay in a place where you can feel Japan. Bamba hotel is a perfect start! Maybe the sounds around the hotel, so bring earplugs if you are sensitive to sounds, but they provide some for you so you will be okay.
- Tim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Helen (9/5): The coolest Tokyo townhouse with the most personable staff. - My family of four loved staying at Bamba Hotel. It's a cozy place, distinctively decorated. The beds were warm and comfortable, the facilities were super clean, and the vibe was welcoming. We had room to spread out and each have some private space. It's not soundproof, but the outside street sounds become a white noise at night, and did not interfere with our sleep. The location is charming, and we could pretend we were part of the neighborhood for a few days. The bento breakfast was delicious, and the staff that met us and delivered the daily breakfast could not have been nicer. We really appreciated the personal attention offered. There's a steep, narrow staircase between floors, but we got used to it quickly.
- Nicolas (10/5): It was amazing, well taken care of, felt even more welcome to be there - An amazing location. Being on the outskirts of the city felt authentic but not out of place. It was a minute walk from a train station that would take you anywhere. The included breakfast was delicious, and the team was amazing. Beautifully aged home. As a 6 foot man some doorways were a little low but that was to be expected.
- Toh Zhen (10/5): - Great location, place and food in surroundings
- Llewellyn (9/5): A Japanese adventure for short stay with close friends - Nostalgic accommodation taking us back to historic Japan. Located near excellent dining options and rail station. Full of character and with the best excellent hosts and service. Fortunately we share the whole apartment with close friends. The layout, timber floors, shared bathroom and steep stairs will make it difficult if you share with strangers, or your inlaws.
- Terry (5/5): It was a charming place perhaps better suited to younger people. Not folks in their 60's. - Location was great. Right next to the station. Despite being close we heard no train noise. The vegan breakfast was fantastic. Strong smell of gas fumes in the bathroom. Lack of comfortable seating - only two chairs and one foot stool provided. The stairs were incredibly steep and frankly hazardous.
- Matthew (10/5): - Beautiful traditional Japanese Townhouse, the staff were very friendly and even helped me extend my stay for an extra night without a hassle. I would love to stay here again on my next visit to Japan.
- Toms (9/5): Cute Tokyo townhouse with impeccable service! - Service here was top notch. The host was very active on ensuring we had everything we needed. Breakfast was simple, but tasty. Convenient access to the nearby train station. The area is quiet, which is good, but you inherently have to travel for most activities.
- Téa (10/5): The most lovely authentic stay of our whole Japan trip! - We had the most lovely stay at Bamba. We were awed by the beauty of the space, the quality of the furnishings and amenities, and most of all by the kindness and attentiveness of the staff. This was our favorite place we stayed of in all of Japan, and a beautiful blending of western luxury within a local Japanese neighborhood and space. The breakfasts were delicious and always made and delivered with love, and we felt so welcomed, taken care of, and comfortable at Bamba.
- Jenny (10/5): A very special place to stay. Don’t hesitate to book. - A very special place to stay. Thank you so much to everyone at Bamba House, especially Azusa.
Location is great, such a fab area. Extremely comfortable beds and linens, with useful and luxurious touches throughout. You can feel the love and attention that has gone into this place. We didn’t want to leave! Before booking we thought it would be good- it was so much more! The area is wonderful- lovely to walk around, good food. Interesting history. The breakfast provided was great.
- Clare (10/5): It was perfect - the hosts are brilliant ! Thank you for having us ! ❤️ - The property is amazing ! A hidden gem in the midst of Tokyo ! Nothing
- Malcolm (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ken (9/5): Confortable - Transitional building and clean The stair
- Muhammad (10/5): kimmy and asuza went their way beyond expectation to provide everything we need. highly recommend - the service was great, clean , authentic guest house with rustic charm. loved the bedroom and comfy bed. breakfast was made with love. kimmy and azusa went their way with their warm hospitality and provided muslim halal friendly booklet. loved the house would stay again if in tokyo, fond memories ! arigatou for making it special for my family. location was bit far from city centre however all is good
- Berbenick (10/5): One Magical Tokyo Hotel - This place is so beautiful and charming. You feel like you stepped back in time (but with all modern amenities). The beds were so comfy and the pajamas were a nice, relaxing touch. We had everything we could need—and more! Did not expect to be able to play the records I bought on my trip, but there was a record player! I liked how the location was away from the city center but super easy to get anywhere with the train right there! The staff were the absolute best—from delivering incredible breakfasts every morning to helping my friend get his lost phone back by helping us with communication. 10/10 would stay here again and will tell all my friends ❤️ There was nothing I didn’t like! I saw some complaints about noise from previous stays, yet that was not our experience. I would say that the stairs are very steep, but there is also the availability (if you ask) for a bed to be set up downstairs. They are so accommodating!
- Raymond (10/5): Exceptional -
- Saeed (9/5): Bamba tokyo - Exceptional good location Ambienx staff locality
- Lara (10/5): Amazing and id definitely go back there for sure. - Hosts were very friendly and even tried to recommend us places to go for fun!! They met us there even though we booked on the day. They wanted to help carry our bags and even brought us cookies!!! And gave us more cookies when we liked it!!!! Super cool place and super cool hosts.
- N (10/5): Nice historical apartment in urban area - Traditional small house full of history. Clean and comfortable. Suitable for short-term living. Very noisy during night due to traffic. Apartment is not suitable for people that have difficulties with their moving. No proper space for luggage if you have more luggage.
- Suryawati (10/5): Love the stay living like a local, all the staff are excellent. Friendly, warm - Beautiful home
- Traveller_m (9/5): Great experience - Location and amenities were great The stairs were a little steep.
- Dawn (10/5): Exceptional - This was a charming, traditional house in a nice neighborhood. The breakfast was delicious! It was helpful to have a washing machine. There was a good supply of dishes, tea, and coffee. The best part, though, were the helpful and kind hosts! We were met upon arrival and from then on, they answered all of our questions when we asked and even gave us suggestions. They even placed a phone call for us because we needed help with the language. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!! The stairs were hard to navigate and we kept bumping our head. But the house was full of charm and warmth.
- Edward (9/5): Superb - Beautiful renovation and fun interior.
Breakfast and bonus cookies were great!
Super close from train station and convenience store!
Host was super friendly and courteous, also the personalized notes with the going away cookie presents were a nice touch too.
Highly recommended! Both sides of the property were super late, almost till morning bars and one of the nights some drunk folks were talk in front of the main entrance for a while, other times a man kept on coming back and staring at the door (observed from convenience store). Stairs are a bit dangerous but no problem for young folks.
Train and vehicle noises bit high in one of the top rooms.
- Jenny (10/5): Wonderful! - The space is truly as stunning as the photos. The hosts were very welcoming and responsive via Whatsapp. The daily breakfasts were such a treat and honestly some of the favorite meals for myself and my traveling companions. The Shimbamba station is truly right next door making it very easy to reach the rest of Tokyo, while being a quieter oasis away from the more noisy parts of the city. It does get a little noisy at night, because there are bars very close by and the older walls are thin. Nothing intolerable, but occasionally you might hear a street cat.
- Te (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts were excellent, helpful and friendly :)
The Hotel is in a great location, and the older character of the place, enhanced with modern improvements, provided a great experience.
Will definitely recommend and book again.
- Bryan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Petter (9/5): Easy, comfortable, local - Breakfast 10 points
- Jasmine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Juleen (9/5): Loved our stay!!! - The charm of the traditional Japanese townhouse has been retained beautifully while also upgrading for western comfort. The beds were super comfy and the main bed was massive! Lovely PJs provided too. We took the western breakfast which was delicious pastries delivered daily. Coffee shop across the road had the best coffee I found in Japan, but only open Mon-Fri. Short walk to a gorgeous street with loads of great food options. Two small bars directly downstairs, and local train only two doors down. Staff were so friendly and helpful. It was fabulous having the whole place to ourselves. We loved our stay! For a family of 5 with too much luggage it was a bit tight on storage space for bags, but if you travel more sensibly you’d be fine.
- Wiratama (7/5): Good -
- Joanne (9/5): Our first time in this type of wooden house, was a very nice experience. Love it! - It's a very cute little cozy wooden house, each room was well thought out and everything you need is there for a small family of 5. Super convenient as the train station is just around the corner. Easy to get to places and very cute little quiet suburb neighborhood and has good local restaurants around the area with convenient store just across the street. Beds were very comfortable, cute tatame dining area. Breakfast options of excellent bread selections or Japanese bento. Kimmy was super friendly and helpful making sure our breakfast delivered the night before our early morning excursion and came to send us off at 6:45am our last day. It's one of those places, the more you stay, the more you like, very charming. We would definitely come back to stay again. It took me second or third night to figure how to turn off some of the lights, but all good. The stairs is a little steep, so not great for elderly or really young kids. Little ones may enjoy climbing it but will need supervision,
- Maria (9/5): Huge thanks to Kimmy and all the staff for hospitality and excellent service. We enjoyed our stay a lot. We felt like at -
- Shaoping (9/5): Superb - The japanese breakfast was good. The location was convenient for using public transportation as well. The house was traditional, but very nice and cozy. It was a bit noisy as it is near the tram and road. But it was not avoidable as it is an old building.
- M (10/5): Nice classic japanese hotel. - The wooden building is well decorated that gave us a comfortable vacation. Maybe we will come again.
- Steven (10/5): I totally regret only staying one night. The place has lots of charm and the hosts are super nice. - Good location next to the metro. Lots of interesting restaurants, parks, and shrines near by.
- Makhkamova (10/5): Exceptional -
- Meret (8/5): We really enjoyed our stay - thank you. - The breakfast was delicious and always on time. They adapted to our food preferences and offered a vegetarian option, which was great. The food was still warm upon arrival and the sizing was more than enough food for one person. They also had a great coffee machine that we used a lot.
The building is beautiful and all necessary amenities were offered. It's a traditional house with beautiful architecture that they turned into a cozy place to stay. Comfortable beds and the sink in the upstairs bedroom is a nice touch.
The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful, huge thanks to them.
Also, there is a nice cafe just around the corner and the subway connection is quite good. Due to the building being quite close to a subway station and a major road as well as being a traditional style house, it was quite noisy. Even at night, you could hear cars or trains passing. Thankfully they offered ear plugs which helped with the noise at night - I had no trouble sleeping, but for people very sensitive to noise it might be something to consider in advance.
It should also be noted that the building is a traditional structure, so for people with mobility issues the steep staircase to the upstairs bedroom area might be an issue.
- Anita (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful traditional town house. Lovely period detailing and very comfortable. Real treat. Nothing.
- Jonas (10/5): Awesome, unique house with amazing service - Super friendly staff! The place is gorgeous. We were only in Tokyo for a day, but this place made our time there awesome. My family loved it. Breakfast was AMAZING, and everything was very clean and comfortable and had all the modern amenities despite being in a such a traditional style of house.
- Allen (9/5): Thank you Taka, Shin and Mina for making our visit to Tokyo so much more comfortable and enjoyable! - super nice staff who went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. very cozy house with everything you need while on vacation. the only thing that would make our stay even better is a WC upstairs especially with the steep stair.
- Christian (10/5): Exceptional - The hotel was lovely - it's a two story townhouse right by a subway stop a little south of Shinagawa station. It has a rustic/old-timey feel and was comfortable (particularly the bed) and charming. Our hosts were amazing - super friendly, happy to answer any questions or offer suggestions for places to go and eat. I even left my phone in the house after checkout and one of our hosts came and found us in the subway station to return it! As it's an old house, it was a bit drafty in the bathroom, creaky floorboards here and there - for us this was part of the charm, but others may feel differently.
- Chad (10/5): Exceptional -
- Natalia (6/5): Cute but not worth the price - It is a beautiful building with a unique vibe where you can get a real an old Japanese house experience with nice Japanese breakfast and a traditional low table with a warming duvet and Japanese Netflix. Bamba was cold, drafty, very loud, and quite uncomfortable to sleep.
Bamba is located between train station, a major road, and a fire-station, making it very loud at night.
Toilet was freezing like an outhouse. Bathroom was cold, with an optional heater that permeated the whole house with a smell of gasoline.
House had many airco heaters but was generally quite drafty and cooling fast if they were off. We also had strong winds that added to the howling noise as there is no good roof in one of the bedrooms.
The stairs to the upper floor were extremely steep so it’s not for everyone.
The beds were incredibly firm which part of our crew found very comfortable and part found impossible to sleep.
Bamba gets great reviews so we were surprised to find it not worth the incredibly high price as compared to over 10 other hotels and locations we have visited across Japan.
