Guest Reviews
- Sarah (6/5): - Very convenient location for where we wanted to stay in old Toronto.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Close to everything like restaurants, bus stops, all beyond your reach.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Property was well kept and staff was very organize while checking in. For the price, it was hard to beat.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I didn't like that the property was not quite as advertised. The pictures were misleading; the bathroom and kitchenette were shared and that was not clear in the add. It was advertised as having a separate sitting area and that was not true. But the property was clean, the kitchenette had all the basics and the room had a bed and a futon as it wss supposdd to.
- HeliKijanen (8/5): - When we got there we had an issue with the phone that was out outside into a box could not immediately get a hold of the host!
Parking was a pain, otherwise a good experience!
- Rome (2/5): Almost a jail - Worst experience, leaving ur shoes at the entrance and walking to third flour without shoes. Bed is horrible. Hard to express it even.
- Patience (10/5): Home away from home - it was a short stay for me. I checked in at 11am (which was early). I'm very pleased.
- Verified traveler (10/5): nice room at affordable price - Room is nice with central AC
Good price for what you get
Located in Chinatown so close to restaurants and mall
- shey (6/5): - Hotel was available on short notice, which I greatly appreciated, but it was a strange place, a bit spooky as there was no staff, lots of signs prohibiting this and that, and was also a bit musty everywhere. Convenient location.
- AARON (10/5): - Had a good stay, the owner seemed like a nice guy
- Jordan (8/5): The Price is Right - Will Come Back! - The local area was convenient, with stores and eateries staying open late, especially since i arrived later at night on business. The guest house and service were great. Was welcomed as if i was going to move in. The bed cusion i cannot really review, because i am use to my big comfy bed at home, so i have high expectations which makes it unfair to judge in this case. Reminded me of college days in a shared home, but these roomates were much quieter and it was easy going. The only thing that caught me off-guard was that the parking spot was basically a paying parking lot about 250m down the street. Made for an okay walk, but we should expect that considering its a home on a street in Toronto. Parking is usually like that. Overall, enjoyed the visit, free wifi and easy to setup at the table in the corner for business purposes.
- Roman (10/5): - Super nice guest house. Even haven't seen the staff, everything was organised by emails. Super clean and comfortable stay.
- Mars (8/5): Good stay - Owner provided good guidance on how to reach from the airport. Rooms were clean and kitchen has all you need to cook your own meals.
We extended our stay and have a good time.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Spend more get lots more. - No parking...noisy roomers...no supervision= poor sleep.
- s.k (6/5): - was clean.but washroom could be more clean.but overall was good and comfy
- randy (8/5): - If all you want is a clean, safe and inexpensive room with good access to the city. This is that.
- Qarsauq A (8/5): Great - I loved it. The area is great, the owners are ready to step up and help with anything and are very nice.
- jayne (8/5): easy! - It was easy I access and the communication was really efficient. I enjoyed the room which was quaint and warm. The only recommendation is that I wish the mops weren’t kept in the small washroom- it just created a smell. However everything was safe and quiet!
- Christian (10/5): Best room - It was good a good place to rest and to relax.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Gratitude - It was safe, clean, and quiet. The staff and manager were in communication through text and phone and always available and very cooperative. I ran into some of the guests and they were couples, single female guests and also single male guests. It was easy to commute to the city center and sightseeing locations. There was a cafe for breakfast or brunch near the giest house. It was a great choice and a great stay.
- Stephen (10/5): 10/10! - This was my first experience with a B&B style accommodations, and I must say it was life changing. I only wish I had the name of the individual whom we spoke to, and provided instructions through text, so I can give him/her the incredible respect they deserve. My friend spoke highly of this place, and we sure received the same stellar experience. I would rate the experience, the service, and the neighbourhood as perfect.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice and comfy - Good experience. Nice, clean, and comfy. Parking at 3 minutes away is a little bit inconvenient.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good place for visiting Toronto - Nice room, everything is good, quickly & automatically. That’s smart management 😉 There are 8 rooms, 1 kitchen, 1 eating table & 1 shared shower room. Still good for that price & short travel.
- Christopher (8/5): - Mattress on bed could have been more comfortable
- Martin (10/5): A welcoming stay - The guest house is nice and quiet, well maintained. The location is fine, with easy access to public transit. My only gripe is that the mattress could use a top foam for comfort, as you can feel the springs. But overall, I would stay there again, and the place was recommended by a previous guest.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel - except facilities and condition, others are good. friendly staff, Clean room, and overall comfort.
- Christine (6/5): Affordable price in the city, but low comfort - The Color Cube Guest house was an affordable place to stay in a decent location in the city. It was close to public transit, which was really awesome. The staff was also very nice and made sure we had everything we needed. All of this was great, if it wasn't for the fact that we didn't have any hot water for the whole stay. We stayed for 2 days and the whole time we were without hot water. Also at the time, there were also a lot of renovations going on upstairs and even in our room when we arrived. Which means there was also a lot of noise from upstairs in the morning and afternoon, making it difficult to sleep in a bit.
But all in all, for the price and location it was great. Just the general comfort was low during our stay. Bed and suite were clean. But the lack of hot water and the noise from the renovations brought our opinions down quite a bit.
- pgc (10/5): Basic hotel for basic needs - Everything you need if you're looking for a clean, basic, close to public transport stay in Toronto.
Easy to locate- staff organised a lift from the airport for me at a cheaper fee than a cab.
Basically, this is between a hostel and a hotel and fitted my needs entirely; so it is dependent on what you're looking for.
- Graham (8/5): Good value, basic needs met. - It's a guesthouse experience, and served its purpose just fine.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Cheap is cheap, I like it - Check in was easy. We had some miscommunication and we had a fouton instead of a bed. The colour cube had that fixed right away.
- Stephen (8/5): Clean and well-managed - Colour Cube met our expectations for a clean, warm location not far from our friends and family. Shared bathrooms are not for everyone but they were fine. The rooms are sparse, quirky and colorful. The bed looks a little rickety but was quite comfortable. All in all, we got good value.
- Gerard (6/5): For a Long Term Stay - It's a transient house. Hospitality was great, very generous, room was ok if you are not fussy, a good place for a long term stay but the area is not very convinient.
- Nicolette (8/5): Convenient and great value for the price - Great place for the value if you are just using the guest house for a place to sleep and don't need to be in the room all day. Even if you are spending most of the day inside the guest house, there still is a lot of privacy and felt roomy and comfortable enough, as if you are spending a day at someone's guesthouse. At first, thought that safety might be a concern because it's not a hotel and other people spend the night in the house but felt very space especially because of how organized the company was even without the front desk and communication via text and email. Instructions were simple, detailed and provided ahead of time. No complaints for the value. Would book again for future similar circumstances. (Ex. Just needing a place to sleep, even shower).
- David (6/5): Cheap place to sleep, nothing else. - I mean for the price of $50 one cannot reasonably expect luxury. If you just need a place to rest your head at night then this place is just fine for that. At least it's not horribly old and falling apart. There are some obvious renovations with the washroom and kitchen. Not the best renovations but at least there.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was a good deal for the rate but it was more like a hostel or maybe better for a cheaper long term stay. The room was just a double bed futon and writing desk. Definitely not good for people with cars had to pay for a parking spot in municipal parking about 2 blocks down. I wish I would have known all that before I booked the room. Quant area and home that has nice modern kitchen, halls and decent bathrooms on each floor. Shared bathrooms with just a stand up shower.
- Gabe (10/5): Perfect budget stay - The Colour Cube is absolutely perfect for those of us who cannot actually afford vacations. It is cheap, cute, and most importantly immaculately clean. I have paid three times as much to stay in much less satisfying rooms. The walls are thin and it's a little loud, but for the price you likely cannot do better in Toronto. You will neither see nor need the staff.
- William (8/5): A guest house far cheaper than hotel prices - a clean well priced guest house
- catherine (8/5): Bon rapport qualité prix - The house was very charming and the room very cosy. Well located and the service was fantastic, it was very easy and simple to communicate with the owner to know how everything was working. Really good value for money ! I would go back :)
- Lillie (4/5): Off the grid, you give up basic comfort. - It was similar to room & board facility. No staff available on site, only contact by phone. The room was minimally equipped: no tv, no clock/radio and no phone in room in case of emergency. The room was located on the 3rd floor, entrance to 3rd floor very narrow stairs and no banister. No parking near facility. Only parking allowed at Public Parking 2 blocks away. If you are parked in front of the facility between 6-9 AM, Mon.- Fri. The city will tow your car for $164 and give ticket for $150. You are given a number combination to unlock front door lock box for entrance during your stay. Central air does not reach the 3rd floor, a floor fan is available to cool you off.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice guest house close to metro - This hotel is about 3 miles away from the city center, but has an metro station near by.
It was self check in and out. I didn't see anyone from the staff.
Room and bath was clean. For this price was the hotel ok.
- Olajumoke (2/5): Poor customer service - Very colorful.but i didn't enjoy my stay.the service was poor.communication was via text.customer service poor.definitely won't go back.I don't recommend.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great inexpensive stay! - An awesome place for budget travelers who just need a bed and a shower. Everything was clean, and check-in was a breeze, even with no staff on site.
Worth noting that this place doesn't have an elevator. If you have any mobility issues, you should contact the hotel directly to ensure your room is on the lower level.
- Susan (10/5): Fantastic Property! - Had a fantastic stay! The owners are very friendly & helpful! Easy check in & check out! This is a property to stay at if you're on a budget & don't want a big hotel! Thank you Colour Cube!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Convenient and Affordable - Colour Cube is along the street car line in East Toronto at the corner of the famous Degrassi Street - inspiration for all the TV shows. It is a quiet, safe neighborhood with plenty of services within walking distance and many parks. The rooms are bright, clean and roomy and there is plenty of room in a big fridge downstairs to store your food. An excellent value for anyone visiting Toronto.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nothing special butt great price for location. - Great price for location. Hostel style accommodation; share bathroom. Room was clean; good for sleeping but little else. Easy access to Transit and downtown. Good place to stay if traveling on the cheap.
- mohammed (10/5): comfortable stay - We enjoyed the stay and the relaxation . with no interruption.
- Jonathan (6/5): That's really a Guest House more than an hotel... - That's really a Guest House more than an hotel. Expect not more than a guest house offer...
- Lorne (8/5): - I was happily impressed by it's cleanliness and simplicity of operation...all done by email instructions. Very reasonable and close to downtown Toronto. Good inexpensive restaurants and food stores near by. Nothing fancy, just a good clean simple place to rest and keep your things safely. Will stay again.
- randy (8/5): - A comfortable, inexpensive place to get some sleep, on the Gerrard streetcar line.
- Emily (8/5): Good deal for the price - For the price, this is a good place to stay. It feels like an upscale hostel. The private rooms are well appointed, but the walls are pretty thin. The bathroom is a little difficult to maneuver and could have used a little bit of cleaning. This includes a full kitchen, which is a nice feature. There are lots of authentic Asian restaurants nearby, which is a nice opportunity to try some good food. I wouldn't stay here if you are uncomfortable with running into other people staying in the same place. It feels like the ideal place to stay when you're in your 20s/early 30s and want to save money. The managers are very friendly with communication!
- Sherry (8/5): Clean, quiet, close to downtown, nice walk. - Well organized, easy to find, hot water, clean sheets.
- Mary Jane (8/5): - It was a great stay at the cube hotel but we had a lil problem. Its hot in the bedroom and when we call the management they said they dont have aircon and I understand but you should put fan the instead of saying 'just open the window'
- Qiutong (4/5): Poor hostel - Didn't like it at all. There was no daily room cleaning and maintaining. You can literally hear the next door couple doing actions at night. No manager on site and very bad service. Definitely not recommended
- Nicole (8/5): Great stay for the price! - We stayed at Color Cube for one night while we were passing through Toronto. For the price, I thought it was excellent! The room was clean and comfy and the house was nicely kept. Though it's a bit far from the main entertainment district, local transportation was very easy to navigate (though you do need exact cash) and ran late into the night. Also the neighborhood felt safe and I was comfortable walking around by myself in the evening and daytime.
Parking was a bit of a hassle. If you park overnight in the lot, you have to wake up at 7 am to reload the meter. They do have an app so some people might find it helpful, but being from out of town, I didn't want to download it. Also, the walls in the house were pretty thin we could hear our neighbors getting frisky.
Overall I really enjoyed Color Cube. If you're just looking for an inexpensive place to stay the night and don't mind the distance to downtown, it's a wonderful option!
- Lacey (10/5): Colour Cube Review - Great place to stay. Although not downtown, there is a bus (506) that will take you there in 10 minutes. Lots of stores (No Frils, Food Basics, Walmart, ect) near by. House is overall well kept. Kitchen is shared with everything needed (stove top, microwave, kettle and fridge). A cute house, for a needed place to stay in Toronto.
- Mel (8/5): Great location - I love staying at Colour Cube, it's super uncomplicated and the location in shirt walking distance to the street car is perfect for me.
- marissa (8/5): Great spot and felt like home - It is a guesthouse where you basically are renting a room in the person's house, it really felt like home. Bed was a little stiff but it was clean and not too far from downtown. We took the cable car which was fun! They were great about communicating with us about check in and check out and were flexible with our arrival time. Would definitely stay again!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - No front desk or anyone on site but prompt response to owner or manager by txt message. Was very clean and quiet shared amenities were also clean. No frills type of room no tv but wifi, bed was not that comfortable and no heat control but you could open a window if needed. As other reviews said you could hear through the walls but over all our stay was fine would recommend. Looks exactly how the pictures show
- Ken (8/5): - I wasn't expecting a 5star hotel but for the price it was a good place to stay clean and quiet in Chinatown and a short streetcar ride downtown. Overall I would recommend it to anybody as a clean affordable place to stay.
- Alicia (8/5): - Nice size room, would prefer having a bathroom on the same floor
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I only stayed for one night but I had a relaxing time. It is not really a hotel more like a hostel but it a pretty good place of your looking for an affordable room with a good location.
- Verified traveler (8/5): A good place to stay that satisfy your basic needs - close to bus stops, easy to check in. Room is clean and wifi was good. Shared bathroom. Nice and simple place if you are looking for a place in Toronto to stay for a few days.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Not amazing. Cheap and tacky. What you pay is what you get.
- Morgan (4/5): More Cons than Pros - Pros - not too far from city centre and tram right outside the door. Surrounded by little Asian supermarkets and restaurants.
Cons - almost everything else. The 24hr desk - no one is here to help you, to answer questions. Having no one there means little sticky post it notes are plastered everywhere making it look tacky. The kitchen which is shared was twice piled with dirty dishes and food covering plug hole, not cool. You hear literally everything. Traffic outside which doesn't bother me but every footstep, every sneeze, every noise little or small. Heat is supposed to rise? I had the top room and it was cold. A pathetic duvet was all I had and a heater with warnings everywhere not to turn it up high which got me worried it was about to set myself and room on fire.
I don't like writing bad reviews and I've stayed in some really dodgy places whilst backpacking. However if I had read all of this I wouldn't have booked it in the first place. I would rather pay a bit more and get a lot more than come here again.

- Kieran (10/5): Great room, no problems. - Very nice room for both solo and couples with lockable door to keep my bags safe when I'm out. Clean and quiet house, relatively easy to find (along the 506 route), although slightly out of the city centre. Not a great deal to do in the immediate vicinity but utilising the streetcars can get you into the city centre pretty easily.
- Rachel (10/5): Cute and convenient - 2nd time staying here and this place did not disappoint. Great price and a great location.
- Karlin (8/5): Cute, clean, comfortable, close to everything. - We had tickets to a play and wanted an inexpensive, clean place to stay to avoid the long drive home afterwards. Found Colour Cube Guest House online at an amazingly low price and took a chance. It is in East Chinatown which is a very cool neighbourhood and a short TTC ride to Yonge Street and the theatre/shopping district. The guest house is adorable inside and out. All new paint and furniture, sparkling clean bathrooms, comfortable room and beds, very cute decorating. Exactly what we needed as a base for other activities in the city. Makes you feel like you're tucked in at a friend's place. Would definitely go back (thinking about doing this for a St.Lawrence Market excursion in the spring).
- Paula (8/5): Good deal. Don't expect hotel amenities. - Guest house shared bathroom. No towelrack in bathroom. Only one towel per guest. Very soft.
Staff wonderful. Great value.
No television. Parking 1 block away for $6.00. Very reasonable.
- Ralph (10/5): 1st pick, no regret - Reasonable pricing, good communication with the owner. Anytime I plan to get back in the city it would be the place I'd want to stay in again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Affordable and clean. - I enjoyed my stay. I have nothing to complain about. The room i stayed in was clean, the staff was friendly.
- Ekaterina (10/5): Very nice hotel! - Thank a lots! Very nice hotel! Thanks a great the Colour Cube Team for helping with check-in procedure and parking! The room is clean and very comfortable! And the hotel is easy accesibale for the people who the are the first time in Toronoto! Thanks a lot again!
- Rachel (10/5): Great value for a great stay! - Great value for a great stay! The cute little guest house was easily accessible by streetcar and the room was clean, comfortable, and colourful! The house is located in a quiet neighbourhood with a bunch of asian restaurants nearby for your convenience, and the shared kitchen in the house is very useful since there are two asian supermarkets not too far away meaning you can cook your own meals. Hotel managers were friendly, organized, and quick to respond to any questions; they are also extremely accommodating if you have any problems or concerns. Would definitely recommend and would 100% stay again!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Clean room , easy access to ttc, overall acceptable for reasonable price.
- Brian (10/5): Wow....what an experience! - This is a quiet older home made into a hostel type hotel. Plenty of space, nice accommodations, it is exactly how it is stated on the discription. With people working or playing at different times of the day, expect a little more noise than a hotel but privacy is good. The neighborhood is very diverse with Chinatown right out your front door, Greek town a few blocks away and plenty of other varieties like Japanese, Filipino, Vietnamese and other fine cultures in the remote area here. Have fun!
